Health professionals in Nigeria will, on Thursday at a Future of Health conference in Abuja, discuss challenges faced by the industry, in an effort to proffer solution for better health care services and delivery.
The conference themed, Defining the Health Sector of Our Dreams in Nigeria, will hold at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre at 1 p.m.
It will focus on issues of funding the health sector, bickering among health sector professionals, shortage of health care providers among others.
Chikwe Ihekweazu, a medical doctor with Nigeria Health Watch, a not-for-profit organization offering communication and advocacy expertise in the health sector, said there is need for a revamp of the health sector.
He said the health sector has not kept with the exponential growth of most sectors in Nigeria.
Mr. Ihekweazu said, “The Future of Health Conference will bring together inspiring speakers that are responding to some of the toughest challenges facing the Nigerian health sector from the public, private and non-governmental sectors.
“Speakers will reflect the breadth of the sector and put forward ideas that we hope will help meet the hopes and aspirations of Nigerians, and set the agenda for the incoming administration,” Mr. Ihekweazu said.
He also added that inspiring stories of Nigerians doing exceptional things despite challenges in the sector will be discussed as the conference will highlight innovations, discuss the critical need for reform, and proffer solutions to the challenges facing the industry.
Speakers at the conference include, former minister of health for state, Muhammad Pate; Ondo State commission for Health, Dayo Adeyanju; Director of Primary Health Care Systems Development at the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Nnenna Ihebuzo; President, Society for Family Health, Shima Gyoh and former Ogun State commissioner for health, Ola Soyinka.
Others are directors and chief executive officers of various companies and non-profit organizations.
