Adamawa state executive’s plan to level false allegation against the Speaker, By Zailani Umar

Smarting from the failed bid to impeach the Speaker Adamawa State House of Assembly Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri by 9 out 25 Members, the Executive has perfected a plan to indict him on cooked up allegations on financial mismanagement.

As a prelude to the sinister plan the Executive through the Commissioner for Information has already placed an embargo in all State owned Media on all reports emanating from State House Assembly led by Fintiri in favour of the Governor Bala’s Legislative collaborators.

The hope is to deny Fintiri and majority of the Legislators fair hearing in the court of public opinion, and prevent the truth from coming out except the one from the Executive.

The plan is to accuse Fintiri of not following due process in the awarding of contract and sourcing of funds for the execution of the Faculties of Law and Medicine of the Adamawa State University during His brief but eventful stint as the Ag. Governor last year.

It is however important for the public to note that the Ministries concerned duly advertised the projects for pre-qualification tender which were not opened before Fintiri’s tenure came to an abrupt end.

More over proceeds from the 5Billion Naira bond which was earmarked to execute the project was yet to mature as at the time Fintiri left office, therefore what funds could he have tampered with or much less mismanaged?

What the Executive is simply attempting to do is to portray Fintiri and the majority of Legislators behind him in bad light while distracting the people’s attention from the lack of transparency and accountability that has characterized most financial transactions of Governor Bala’s Administration.

Any dispassionate and critical observer can see through the charade of the orchestrated Face-off between the Executive and the Legislature and realised that it is not in the interest of Adamawa people but for reasons that are far from altruistic.

Right now there are so many problems for the Governor to grapple in barely two weeks to the end of his tenure than engaging in needless distraction in form of the current political Vendetta against Fintiri.

It is unfortunate that a huge sum of State money has been expended on pursuit of this personal agenda just to massage Governor Bala’s ego and a few collaborators; leaving worker’s salaries and a huge backlog of leave grant unpaid on a false pretense of shortage of funds. If there are no funds where is the Executive getting the funds it is expending on its self-styled pet project?

This is advising the Executive to stop this Vendetta and focus on the welfare of citizens which is its primary duty in the remaining days of the administration. Adamawa citizens should shine their eyes and demand a halt to impunity and high-handedness that has characterized Bala’s administration in its remaining few days in office.

Finally, the Adamawa state House of Assembly enjoins all security agents to resist any attempt to use them to scuttle the activities of the members or bow to the pressure from the Adamawa state Executive to close down the House which is the intended outcome of the Executive in fermenting the crisis ab initio.
