The Head of the Department of Economics at the University of Abuja, Sarah Anyanwu, would on Thursday present a lecture at the university’s 13th inaugural lecture.
Mrs. Anyanwu, 59, a professor of Economics, would present a paper on entrepreneurship.
He paper titled: “Entrepreneurship: A veritable tool for fostering economic development in Nigeria would be presented at the University’s ETF hall on Thursday at 9. 30 a.m.
Mrs. Anyanwu, a widely respected academic and economist, began her teaching carrier at General Murtala Mohamed College, Yola in 1981, before joining the Federal University of Technology, Yola, now Modibbo Adama University of Technology, as Assistant Lecturer in 1982.
She moved from Lecturer II in 1985 to Lecturer I in 1990, Senior Lecturer in 1994, Associate Professor in 1996 and Professor of Development Economics in October 1999.
She helped developed the curricula for four undergraduate programmes — Economics, Accountancy, Banking and Finance, and Management — for the Department of Management Technology in the School of Management and Information Technology in FUTY in March 2000.
She has served in numerous positions at Federal University of Technology, Yola, including Head of Department, Management Technology (2000-2003) and Dean, School of Management and Information Technology (2003-2005).
She transferred her service to University of Abuja in 2008, precisely the Department of Economics where she is presently the Head of Department for the second time – November 2011 to January 2014 and September 2014 to present.
She has also served in over 41 committees and administrative positions in the two Universities where she had worked including: Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (Uniabuja), Member of Senate (FUTY and Uniabuja), Member, Faculty Management Board of Social Sciences (Uniabuja), Staff Disciplinary Committee, University Management (FUTY), Committee of Directors and Deans (Uniabuja), and Search Team for the New Vice-Chancellor (FUTY).
