President Jonathan urged to hand over power on May 29, not 28

President Goodluck Jonathan

The Chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council, in Yobe, Umar Kukuri, has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to hand over power on May 29, 2015.

Mr. Kuhuri made the call in Damaturu on Saturday.

He said, “The May 28 handover proposal has generated arguments with a lot of suspicions and interpreted negatively. So, Mr

. President should complete the 24- hour difference and hand over power to the president-elect on May 29 to sustain the statesmanship he demonstrated during the election.

“President Jonathan earned himself international respect when he conceded defeat and congratulated Gen. (Muhammadu) Buhari. He should sustain this for the remaining period of his administration and beyond.

“Handing over power on May 29 will erase every suspicion, fear of creating vacuum and the judicial interpretation to the difference between May 28 and May 29. Nigerians are united towards peaceful transition after the peaceful elections, so, the traditional handover date of May 29 should be respected.”

He urged the two transition committees of the outgoing and incoming governments to give priority to national interest.

The chairman called on all Nigerians to support a smooth transition from Mr. Goodluck to Mr. Buhari, to consolidate the achievements recorded in the just-concluded election.
“The security agencies should also support a successful transition,” Mr. Kukuri said. “Every Nigerian has a role to play in ensuring a peaceful and successful transition for Nigeria’s democracy to become a role model in Africa.”

He expressed optimism that the issue will be resolved easily.

“I do not see this as a problem, but it seems to be generating serious arguments,” he said. “I am sure it will be resolved amicably.”

Constitutionally, handing over day is 29th May at Eagle Square not over dinner. Dinner is giving by the President for last meeting with all his Officials who rendered services to his Government to thank them and also the incoming Administration to welcome them. Handing over is never done in the night, it should be in the morning fresh air, ushering a new dawn. At last we are getting rid of those mal administrators deceiving President JONATHAN in Government. This is one of the deception because as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, the President elect must be saluted by the Armed Forces while bidding the outgoing Commander in Chief farewell and then the President elect receives the command baton. This is not done during dinner without the Armed Forces presence?

      JONATHAN IS NOT GETTING IT

What is even annoying me is the everyday talk by Jonathan’s government
of TRANSITION COMMITTEE. We elected Jonathan for four years to run
Nigeria properly for the good and happiness of the people. We did not elect
Jonathan for 3 years 10 months. It is irresponsible to devote the last two (2)
months to a bogus TRANSITION PROGRAM. He must put the election behind
and keep governing the country properly in line with his unexpired mandate!

Let him have the rest of his 15 minutes of fame.Remember that we are no longer going to hear him speak again after May 29 , cuz he will be in jail.

    @maitamatambari:disqus,

APC is even saying that President Jonathan is planning to run away.
They say Jonathan plans to hand over on the 28th and flee Nigeria.
APC says Jonathan knows Buhari can’t issue any order on the 28th.
And that is why, Jonathan wants to quickly handover and run away.

APC even says that Jonathan is too ashamed to show his face on 29th.
They say he may be booed or even pelted with pure water sachet on 29th.
Eagles Square is too public a place that anyone can just stone Jonathan.
All these concerns however are just speculative with no factual basis at all.
Only Jonathan can say with his own mouth that he’s afraid and wants to flee.

ANYBODY THAT LOSES ELECTION IN ALL THE SOUTH-WEST (EXCEPT EKITI)
AND IN ALL THE MIDDLE BELT; AND, IN IN ALL THE NORTH-WEST, AND IN ALL
THE NORTH-EAST, SHOULD NATURALLY BE AFRAID AND PLANNING TO FLEE.

15.4million voters for Buhari now groan and moan

The 1999 constitution says nobody must submit false certificate to INEC. Buhari defied the law.
He submitted FALSE certificate to INEC through declaratory statement verified on oath saying
he obtained WASC in 1961. That is an intentional violation of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.
He must be punished for it.

The 15.4 million people who voted for Buhari (representing 8.65% of Nigeria’s population)
wasted their votes because everybody is presumed to know the law. Those 15.4m voters
were told since December 2014 that Buhari has no proof of WASC. The 15.4m people still
went out in the sun to vote Buhari, as if they are too illiterate to know the consequence.

By irresponsibly daring the country’s Constitution, the punishment for their own stupidity is
nullification of all those 15.4 million votes to make them void. That is what the 1999 Constitution says.

LET US NOT GET CARRIED AWAY BY SUGGESTIONS THAT PRESIDENT JONATHAN
IS LOOKING AT SEME BORDER AS A FASTER ROUTE OF ESCAPE FROM NIGERIA,
WHEN BUHARI – WHO IS TO TAKE OVER – CANNOT EVEN ANSWER THE FOLLOWING:

    • hummm

We need comedians like you to laugh at, pls keep bringing it on.

  • Rommel

IBB did same by handing over power very unceremoniously a day before the scheduled day so as to avoid crowd booing him off the stage, this I think is the same motivation for this Otuoke born Nigerian misfortune.

    • humm

Well tough luck, then he has to face the disgrace, since he didnt think about the country before ditching it into debt.

    • Tunsj

It doesn’t matter at all because a lot of Nigerians will keep on booing him for the rest of his life.

  • Omo Akin

This is to Buhari and APC: Please do not attend the dinner for hand-over. Buhari cannot be president and exercise any power until he is sworn in and subscribe to the oath of allegiance. Is that going to happen at the dinner? If Buhari will not be sworn in at the dinner, what then is President Jonathan handing over? There is something sinister in the arrangement and Buhari should not fall for this trap.
There is abundant evidence to show how desperate President Jonathan tried to subvert the will of the people but for the grace of God and the pressure from the International Community. The man and his wife can still try a last ditch effort to cause constitutional impasse.

  • Festuso

They’re talking about Hand-over Dinner as if the President-elect does not eat dinner in his house everyday. Must he have dinner with Jonathan? In fact he should shun the invitation to Dinner. Everything must be done formally henceforth….there is no need for any pretended camaraderie. Buhari should be sworn in by the Chief Justice of the Federation on May 29th. Jonathan is free to attend the ceremony or choose not to….afterall he is not the one doing the swearing in! If he attends, the whole world will applaud him but he is free to go and sulk at Otuoke on that day!

    • Seriously

With the latest bombshell from Reuters and other papers, mr clean would not like to attend the handover ceremony. His attenpt to steal the election with usa and europe reading him a riot act to hand over, and pdp goon attempt to kidnap JEGA. All that mess will scared the hell out of him to face the public. He will be boooed for sure .

    • Tunsj

Well laid out and well written.. You beat me to the punch, Festuso and that is exactly what I was going to say. Jonathan and PDP should stop playing games and follow the Constitution.

  • Malam Almajiri

Is there any provision for that in the constitution? No, then no need

  • excel

So jonathan must always be persuade to do what the constitution of the country demand? He was persuaded to concede defect now persuading to handover on may 29. He was swore in on may 29 why did he want to go against may 29 now that he lost election. Sometime is fishing with jonathan and is cohort.

  • Interrogator

JONATHAN MUST NOT BE GIVEN ALL THE DAYS HE WANTS TO HAND OVER.
JONATHAN MUST HAND OVER TOMORROW; ONCE BUHARI DOES HIS PART.
OVER TO YOU, BUHARI – DO NOT DELAY, JUST GO ON, DON’T LET US DOWN.
JONATHAN MUST GO TOMORROW. SO, YOU JUST DO THIS LAST THING; VIZ:
