Governorship Polls: Situation Room condemns killings, malpractices across Nigeria

By Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room

The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room is observing the State-level elections for the Governorships and the State Houses of Assembly. The successful conclusion of these elections is crucial to the consolidation of democracy in the country and should complement the already concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections on March 28th 2015.

Reports reaching the Situation Room indicate that electoral officials arrived on time in most parts of the country. Commencement of accreditation also started on time. The Situation Room notes a number ofissues of serious concern as the current elections unfold:

Process violation:

We note that in many polling units, INEC’s electoral regulations were being flagrantly flouted. In most polling units, accreditation started on time. In Akwa Ibom State, there are reports of accreditation of voters without valid PVCs. In Wadata Polling Unit (011) inTaraba State, voting commenced without accreditation, while in Rogo Ward in the same State, accreditation and voting are taking place simultaneously. In Nasarawa State, there are reports of the inability of INEC ad hoc staff to operate the card readers. In a limited number of polling units, we have also received reports of mass ballot thumbprinting, attempts to bribe electoral officials, and the use of security officials to subvert the electoral process.

Deaths & Violence:

We have reports of election-related murders in Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Ebonyi, Katsina, and Akwa Ibom States. These killings form part of a wider pattern of politically-motivated violence, arson, and hijacking of electoral materials that our observers have noted. The resort to violence may not be unrelated to the higher interests at stake in these State level elections. In Owerri North of Imo State, there are reports of rival party clashes and violence.

We are concerned in particular about the deteriorating situation, such as the increasing use of violence in Imo, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Lagos, and southern Kaduna States. We call on INEC to redouble its efforts at protecting the integrity of the electoral process by upholding its regulations. Where failures are established we call on INEC to seriously consider cancelling results from the affected polling units.

We call on the security forces to uphold their professional ethics, avoid partisanship, and protect lives and property. We call on all Nigerians to take advantage of these elections to choose leaders of their choice to conduct affairs in the States. We urge everyone to resist efforts at inflaming local passions with a view to instigating violence or perverting the electoral process.

INEC must cancel elections in States where human lives have been lost out of deference to the dead and in testing Dumbo’s vow that this election is not worth a drop of blood. He has illegally deployed the military who have been complicit in most of these violence and as-is, all elections in areas where malpractices have been recorded must be rescheduled for later date… preferably after May 29th when sanity returns to Nigeria. This is the crook they were celebrating as democracy hero and even recommending for the Nobel Price. He ordered the CP out of Rivers State this morning and is protecting his candidate, Wike, with a battalion of goons who have gone haywire in harassing innocent citizens just as they’re doing in all of the above-mentioned States. Nonsense!

Mumu no elections would be canceled—Besides did u call for the cancellation of the presidential elections when the fulani north came up with their own result that Jonathan has won the election which late resulted in the murder of Nigerians in the North—–Do u know the number of people killed in the north–go to other media outlets on the web and find out—–would APC have accepted—–such a move via Obama who installed buhari–as president of nigeria

      • Wähala

You still owe me your balls you bet several years ago when I told you Dumbo will shoot himself on the foot. Bet keep your slimy infested aborigine balls, just note that half of the elections today will be nullified either by the Tribunal, courts or INEC. Dumbo is one psychopath Nigerians are happy to toss into the bin truck… And, President Buhari will make sure Jona gets swallowed by the Shark that will deliver him to the ICC for diligent prosecution. Don’t worry, Buhari ati Baba Iyabo have fine-tuned the punishment to be meted out to your moron for his crimes against the Nigerian folk. Drunkard!

IF U GO THROUGH MY POST–U WILL UNDERSTAND AND ACCEPT MOST OF MY COMMENTS—-JONATHAN MISTAKENLY SAW HIMSELF AS A NIGERIAN—-LITTLE DID HE KNOW THAT NIGERIA—WILL VIEW HIM AS AN IJAW MAN—-JONATHAN WAS NEVER REGARDED AS A NIGERIAN BY THE FULANIS AND YORUBAS———NEVER—————-HE WAS ONLY TRYING TO FORCE HIMSELF UNTO THEM–THAT IS WHY HE COULD NOT DO MUCH FOR HISN PEOPLE—————HE WAS not voted out of aso rock–he was harassed out—by Obama–I am not at all shocked to have buhari-nominated to-assume the mantle of leadership—a fulani–for that matter—-only an insane society will have buhari as her president–given his past records

          • Wähala

            Ol’ Boi…
I’ve known you too long to waste my time reading your posts. I respond only to the last line to keep you happy. Did Obama vote? See what’s happening in Pitakwa bcos the int’l community left us alone. Wike ati Lady Hippo imported ISIS terrorists and they’re chopping off peoples’ heads. Better if Obama has stayed to see Dumbo into the toilet… Wallahi!

    INEC Fraud In Lagos Uncovered.

INEC’s plan to disenfrancise some desinated Nigerians have been exposed in Lagos. Some Card readers have been pre-loaded by INEC with accredited number e.g, the card reader shows 257 or similar number code, “Meaning already accredited”, this is even before accreditation commences.
Please these codes where programmed into the Card Readers sent to some area to stop people from voting for the candidate of choice.
Wherever you are, be on the look out for these technology back Fraud of INEC. Where this exists, the card reader must not be used. It’s pre rigged’.

Over 90% of Card Readers failed in the Presidential election and Prof Jega Dubiously refused to fix them.

I want to use this medium to urgently appeal to currently serving military officers to rescue this country immediately.
The situation is rapidly deteriorating so much so that if the senior officers neglect to do their duty then junior officer will step in immediately. If the latter scenario plays out then the senior officer are done for good as I do not need to remind them of the implications. The time is ripe to act without further delay.

    • Enemona

Are you calling for a military takeover? How cheap! Please banish that thought immediately.

You cannot mask a bad intention with a good reason. We know the country needs rescuing but we do not need military intervention as we are already moving in the right direction given the election of the president-elect and the acceptance by the outgoing president. Given this, you call for military intervention is suspect.

For your own information, military intervention will be vigorously rejected and opposed with everything the people of Nigeria can muster, make no mistake. If you think calling military intervention would save you from the impending payback for all what the atrocities you have committed as a military officer then think again as the day of judgement is nigh for you and nothing can save you.
