The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, has said none of the commission’s databases was compromised in Saturday’s cyber-attack on the electoral body’s website.

Speaking to Cyril Stober of the Nigerian Television Authority, Mr. Jega said the attack on the commission’s website did not disrupt the election plans.

“What I want to stress is that no database on the website is compromised, but only the information on the website,” Mr. Jega said.

The commission’s website was hacked and taken down at about 11 a.m. on Saturday.
INEC said on its official twitter page that it has begun investigation into the hacking.

The INEC boss added that irrespective of the card reader’s ability to capture biometrics of many Nigerian voters, including the President, Goodluck Jonathan, the equipment still has substantial credibility.
