President Jonathan eulogizes Shagari at 90

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has eulogized Shehu Shagari as a committed patriot and outstanding leader, saying that the present administration will continue to count on the former President’s support and solidarity.

Writing to felicitate with Mr. Shagari on the occasion of his 90th birthday, which comes up Wednesday, February 25, President Jonathan prayed that Almighty Allah would continue to bless the former President with good health and long life.

“It is with profound joy that I write on behalf of my family, the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and on my own behalf, to express very warm felicitations to you,” Mr. Jonathan said.

“I join your family, friends and well-wishers to thank Almighty Allah for His continued guidance, protection and provision for you in the past ninety years of a life of forthrightness and outstanding leadership with which He has blessed you.

“It is gratifying to note that our Administration can continue to count on the solidarity and support of accomplished, highly respected statesmen and committed patriots like you as we vigorously pursue our national transformation efforts.

“As you celebrate this historic day, it is my prayer that Almighty Allah continues to prosper you and imbue you with robust health as you continue to give of yourself in the service of our dear nation,” the President wrote to Alhaji Shagari.”

Buhari truncated his second term in office out of greed. This made our democratically elected president to retire to his village and God is rewarding him with good life to witness the triumph of good over evil. Never again will evil men rule over Nigeria under any guise. Long live Shagari the greatest

  • Adebenson

Kai … good words.. seems you have learnt your lesson GEJ. It is better late than never. Thank you for appreciating Shagari… I will VOTE for you

  • Otile

Happy B’Day President Shagari. May God give you longer life, good health and happiness.

@Otile, Adebenson, BlackieUmukoro, If you guys are old enough to know the history of the Shagari Administration, that you now claim was truncated, you will not only know that Shagari was just like your President GEJ in regards to corruption during his time. The level of international shame that was being brought to our name was so astronomical that it was just logical that something be done. Although, in his own case Shagari was not involved in the looting but there was so much looting under his watch that Nigeria was going down so fast as he was surrounded by vultures like Umaru Dikko etc (Just like GEJ). What is however ironical about the whole thing is that same person, GMB, that was called upon by the Generals to head a military government that will help stop the Economy from being grounded is yet again, being called upon to save us by the majority. I see the hand of God here because, the only government in the history of Nigeria that you can compare to Shagari’s in terms of impunity and corruption, is GEJ’s government. GMB must have done something right the first time. It is okay to have differing opinion about issues but when the youths are being misled about the facts, then we are not setting the right foundation for them. I still wish Alhaji Shehu Shagari, a Happy Birthday.

    90 and alive.

GEJ almost roll on the floor congratulating Shagari – the most corrupt civilian president. Just to get his support you sound like a complete loser begging for help in the writeup. Anyway I will vote for you as you are lesser evil than Buhari.
