Fani-Kayode attacks Obasanjo for accusing Jonathan of “Gbagbo treatment” plot

Femi Fani-Kayode

The spokesperson for President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign, Femi Fani-Kayode, has come down hard on former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his comments that Mr. Jonathan is planning a “Gbagbo treatment” for Nigeria.

Mr. Obasanjo, who addressed journalists at his hilltop residence in Abeokuta on Saturday, said Mr. Jonathan may be working towards a controversial poll and possibly exit from office the same way former Ivorian president, Laurent Gbagbo, did in his country.

The former President advised Mr. Jonathan not to destroy his name for selfish reasons.

In a swift reaction, Mr. Fani-Kayode who also served as minister and spokesperson for Mr. Obasanjo’s administration took strong exception to Mr. Obasanjo’s remarks.

“We reject President Obasanjo’s very serious and grave allegations and we are not in the least bit disturbed by them because we know that they have no basis in truth, rationality or reason,” Mr. Fani-Kayode said.

“The days of anyone attempting to rule by proxy or through surrogates are long over because we have all come of age. President Jonathan is ready for this election and the PDP will win it hands down despite all the lies and propaganda that is being peddled by the opposition and their new found friends. That is the bitter truth and those that do not like it should learn to live with it.”

Subject: Response to Obasanjo by Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, Director of Media and Publicity, PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation.

It is sad and unfortunate that President Olusegun Obasanjo, a father of the nation and a man that we all revere and have immense respect for, could have misread the situation so badly.

It is simply not true that President Goodluck Jonathan wishes to remain in power at all costs and the suggestion that he has a hidden agenda or that he somehow imposed his will on INEC by getting them to postpone the elections is baseless and absurd.

The security chiefs made their recommendations and there were numerous other challenges that INEC had which caused them to postpone the elections for six weeks. This was INEC’s decision and not Jonathan’s.

The reasons for that postponement were profound and legitimate and we have made it clear all along that whether the election was on the 14th February or any other day President Jonathan is more than ready.

President Goodluck Jonathan has also made it clear that no matter what happens, the handover date of 29 May will stand after the elections have been fought and won. What more does President Obasanjo want to hear?

It is most uncharitable and unfair for him to suggest that President Jonathan wishes to remain in power by hook or by crook because that is not the nature of Jonathan. It is even worse for him to compare him to President Laurent Gbagbo.

To Jonathan, politics is not a matter of do or die and President Obasanjo knows this more than anyone else. We will respond to President Obasanjo in full at the appropriate time but the truth is that we will not allow him or anyone else to distract us from the task that lies ahead.

We have an election to fight and to win and that remains our primary focus. We reject President Obasanjo’s very serious and grave allegations and we are not in the least bit disturbed by them because we know that they have no basis in truth, rationality or reason.

The days of anyone attempting to rule by proxy or through surrogates are long over because we have all come of age. President Jonathan is ready for this election and the PDP will win it hands down despite all the lies and propaganda that is being peddled by the opposition and their new found friends. That is the bitter truth and those that do not like it should learn to live with it.

Femi, go and sit down. Nigerian people have exhausted all of you in PDP, Aso Rock and Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Team. You Femi should just collect your own pay and the rest of the money for your contract from the 20 Billion Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Fund. The game is up Femi. You hear? Just start packing. You respons eis so dry, hollow and un-convincing. This should tell you that your game is up. Pack and leave-come March 28.

That is his full name… he has never denied it and you can google his name on wikipedia…Nobody is claiming him for anything. Femi Kayode is abdul lateef .

  • Wähala

After Abati’s response, this is really unnecessary because all these clowns are doing is playing into OBJ’s hands. Baba Iyabo is not running for any office and can afford to throw sand into Dumbo’s garri, a wise head would concentrate on the elections and simply ignore Baba who craves the limelight. Obasanjo is still smarting from the ban on his new book and picking bones with him only affords him an opportunity to read out his book to the Nigerian public which can only have detrimental effects on the PDP in general and Dumbo’s fantasy in particular. Again, there’s not one smart fellow at the presidency and their blunders is evidence of that. Soon, Okupe and Metuh will join in the fray and bingo! Baba will go on the offensive since he has nothing but time on his side… @FFK: keep smoking whatever is frying your head, you’re doing Nigerians a wealth of good. Oloshi!

It’s only bootlickers like Fani Kayode that can not see the handwriting on the wall. Do we need a sooth sayer to tell us that this is what Jonathanians are planning .

  • Reporteruncensored

Trust FFK,He has Been served food, now he’s singing and dancing!

    • Ekerete Etukudo

…and he has more clout than you and your lineage can ever attain! That makes him more relevant than you!!

      • kolafemi

What is your yardstick for measuring clout. Stolen wealth? Loss of integrity and respect? Moving in circle of crooks? Dishing out lies and half truths? My lineage will have none of it.

      • zacchaeus Akinleye

What clout? FFK is a persona non grata in decent settings. If he is your hero, you’re probably a misfit.

      • Reporteruncensored

If in your book FFK isn’t a shameless politician, then there’s no point dissipating my energy responding to a gratuitous insult from a person like you.

        • eduetok

What could be more shameful than a father sleeping with his son’s wife? No reasonable group of people or political party should even be hobnobbing with such a retard! OBJ remains a beast that need to be chained and locked away far from civilized human beings.

  • kolafemi

Jonathan sent his NSA to London to canvas for postponement of the election. Jonathan summoned the council of state to discuss election postponement. Yet this FFK wants Nigerians to believe that the nature of Jonathan is not to remain in power by hook or by crook. The Jonathan I know has a history of double speak which makes his pronouncements suspicious. But FFK is doing his job like father like son

    • Ekerete Etukudo

Newspaper Interviewer – How will you react to the INEC’s shift of the elections dates by six weeks?

Gani Adams – Well, the shift in dates is as a result of necessities for cogent reasons such as the issues of security and adequate logistics for the exercise. Let me explain these by reminding you of the fact that the shared Permanent Voters’ Card (PVCs) was just 66 percent while the remaining 34 per cent were still to be given out and that is about 24 million eligible Nigerians. I was so sad with the way the opposition handled the development. I just can’t imagine how comfortable they are that about 24 million Nigerians were to be disenfranchised; as a matter of fact, I won’t even be comfortable with 10,000 Nigerians not to talk of 24 million.

      • zacchaeus Akinleye

Gani is playing for broke. He is still pressing Jonathan for his cut of the pipeline security bonanza, so his forked-tongue is understandable.

        • Toke St Franklin

Zacchaeus Akinleye, I urge you to read and re read the aforementioned statements and tell me if you will be happy about 24 million people not being able to vote.

Obasanjo said “I know Fani. Give him food and he will dance for you”. This is the lowest qualification for any man. Soludo added “I read Fani Kayode’s response, and laughed as usual” again dismissing the irritant. The man Fani has no public value. Rumour had it that he was going to all APC governors asking for money until they got fed up with him and expelled him from the Party and Jonathan picked him up for rehabilitation. Unfortunately the president is not a psychiatric doctor to continue from where Ghanaian drug rehab managers stopped.

    • Moses Musa

      Right on point.

Before you vote for a muslim, read this passage by Sir Winston Churchill.

In his 1899 book, “The River War: An Account of the Reconquest of the Sudan,” he wrote,
“How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy.”

“The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live,” Churchill wrote in 1899.

“The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities – but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith,” Churchill wrote.

        • Jika

Then why is GEJ desperate for the votes of Muslims?

          • Bigzy

This is rather a call for introspection for the MUSLIM than a call to vote for anyone. The question is, why is fundamentalist Islam at war with humanity around the world?

          • Jika

I concede to you your right of opinion.I humbly advise that you re-read the piece by actung may be you can get my drift. How come every Muslim is tarred with the brush of fundamentalism and, consequently not fit to lead but only to be led?

          • Bigzy

I would also be gratified if you would humbly acknowledge my point. It is no accident that you have to be a Muslim to become a muslim fundamentalist and this was the basis on which I suggested the introspection.

          • Jika

The import of your statement is that every Muslim is potentially a fundamentalist. That, i believe is against the laws of natural justice which gives each and every one of us the benefit of the doubt. There are contemporary challenges facing the Muslim world of which terrorism and fundamentalism are a part of.The same way that the world of Christiandom had to grabble with the Christian fundamentalist and the crusaders and the inquisionist of old, It is the same way we are grabbling with the current spate of terrorism.I believe this too shall pass. What I find very disagreeable is the notion that all Muslims are either bad or potentially bad. That, simply because one is a Muslim, he must be complicit, or must apologise for the grave wrong done by other misguided Muslims is not only offensive but, unfair.

          • Bigzy

Now you are being mischievious. The fact as it stands is that the potential Jihadists are not coming from Bhudism, not from Jewdism, not from Christianity or any other fate for that matter. The meaning of the introspection I am suggesting is for the followers of the fate to identify the problem and put in measures to fix it. Burying your head in the sand is not an option. You are not smart enough to trap me in a culdesac.

          • Jika

Your reading of my response as mischief is definitely your own entitlement to which I don’t subscribe.I am absolutely certain that there is so much that is put in place by Muslim leaders and clerics to check mate the murderous ideology that the few terrorists subscribe to. Muslims leaders have always condemned these guys, Islamic clerics of repute have come out to not only distance the true tenets of Islam from these miscreants but have also gone ahead to advocate and promote the right Islam. There are also programmes by various religious organisations as well as the Governments at all levels and local community leaders all geared towards proper orientation and re – orientation of impressionable youths. These are things that are ongoing and with time they will take root.I don’t know about burying one’s head in the sand given the fact that before anyone/group suffers the outcome of these terrorists, the Muslim community is the first to suffer both economically and socially.I am not aware that we are in battle of wits/brawns as such the issue of wether I am smart or not does not arise here.

          • Bigzy

Well, you say that Muslim leaders have comdemned the fundamentalism and have put in place measure to checkmate the evil and I would like to believe you. But it is a fact that instead of slowing it down, Jihadism has expanded around the world. You also say that these leaders have condemned the killers. Frankly speaking, when it matters, I have not seen enough of this. At critical points, statements by these leaders have tended to be wooly and if anything firmly perched on the wrong side of the fence.

Since you seem to know a lot about what the leaders are doing to bring in some sensibility to the situation, I take it that you have some connection with them. Maybe you should do more to persuade them that their effort is not working, either in Nigeria or anywhere else in the world. What we have here is akin to Christianity without the moderating influence of the New Testament. In the maintime innocent human beings are being killed on a daily basis.

The fact is that I am here trying to cajole people in positions of responsibility to find a solution through contructive engagement and your tupence is to brand me a hater.

        • Hans Oreva

Imagine you are taking wisdom from a book written in 1899 a period when the west still have not recovered from the Arab blood they swam in during the crusades, or is it about the time your ancestors were being shipped in wooden crates to the west coast? Besides your lie dey smell which wish on Churchill are you talking about and in 1899 …. and the book was glorifying the death of muslim Africans in the Sudan at a time when Christianity was a new concept in africa….you glorify the death of your own people because they adhere to a faith much older in Africa than the christian faith… biko don’t confuse pple here, go get more books written in archaic English glorifying archaic line of thought that obviously has changed over the past 100 years and more ( calc. 1899 to date) besides at that time black man was still classified as a type of monkey only fit to be a slave… and you celebrate racist literature from that Era clothing it in the name of a respected man….shame on you!

“The truth is that Obasanjo is one of the greatest political strategists that Nigeria has ever known and he is an extremely dangerous adversary. I know him well and his ways are deep. Ori Baba le ga ni. Go and find out what happened to all those that betrayed him or tried to kill him. Their end is never good.”
So, is it that this man always forgets what he says or what???
