Presidential Poll: How Jonathan Will Beat Buhari In North – PDP

President Goodluck Jonathan at a Presidential rally

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says its Presidential flagbearer, President Goodluck Jonathan will beat the APC candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, fair and square in the north, come February 14.

The party also said with President Jonathan’s soaring popularity among the voting population across the country, it would win more than two-thirds of the total votes cast as well as the required 25 percent in all the states of the federation.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in a statement on Saturday said President Jonathan will beat Buhari in the north not only because the PDP controls 12 out of the 19 states of the region but also because the citizens are pleased with the numerous development projects he executed in the region.

The party said the various projects and appointments in the north have placed President Jonathan ahead of Mr. Buhari especially following the fact that the APC presidential candidate never executed any in the region when he was head of state and has so far failed to articulate an acceptable blue-print for development.

“Indeed, Nigerians in the north are eager to re-elect President Goodluck Jonathan come February 14, 2015. Voters in the region appreciate the direct positive impact of the numerous development projects executed by the Jonathan administration in all sectors of life.

“They appreciate the fact that recognizing that agriculture is the mainstay of the northern economy, President Jonathan ensured that out of the 2.7 million direct farm jobs achieved by his administration, over 2 million are in the north.

“They appreciate the fact that President Jonathan established the e-wallet system, which eliminated the corruption in the distribution of fertilizer and other farmputs, making the products directly accessible to millions of farmers in the region thereby boosting their productivity. They appreciate the fact that silos are brimming and food pyramids are returning in the north.

“In education, President Jonathan’s imprint in the north remains indelible. Today, the once relegated Almajiri boys can now go to school following the establishment of the Almajiri System of Education, the first of its kind, with over 150 special schools already built, while others are nearing completion, a noble idea, General Buhari never thought of when he was head of state.

“Also, out of the 14 new universities established by President Jonathan, 9 are located in the northern states thereby ensuring that all states of the region have a federal university. This is in addition to the establishment of new secondary schools and training of teachers for quality education in the region.

“Furthermore our citizens in the north are happy with President Jonathanfor his efforts in tackling desertification in the region especially with the establish(ment) of more than 80 km of 15–row Green Belt in addition to the Presidential Initiative on Afforestation in Kano and 10 other Northern States”.

The party also recalled the increased attention to the health need of the area especially the interventions towards polio eradication and treatment of VVF among others.

Noting that President Jonathan has indeed repositioned the region for prosperity, the party pointed out that the north stands to benefit immensely from the revitalization of the railways, especially the rehabilitation of the Minna-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano narrow gauge, the Markurdi-Lafia-Kuru-Bauchi-Gombe-Ashaka-Maiduguri line and the branch line from Kafanchan to Kaduna, which are expected to increase productivity in the region.

The party also noted that roads in the region have received serious attention under Jonathan citing the decades-long intractable Kano-Maiduguri highway, the longest stretch in the country, which is now being successfully tackled in addition to the Abuja-Lokoja road, which is now a delight for road travellers.

Noting that there are hundreds of such gigantic road projects going on in the region, the PDP said that the dredging of the River Niger from Lokoja to Baro in Niger State have also contributed in placing the north on a sure path to economic prosperity.

It also cited the acceleration of work on the Geregu power station, the 700MW Zungeru Hydro-Power, the ‎3,050MW Mambilla Hydro-Power among others in addition to various dam projects including the Kashimbila Multipurpose Dam, which is being built to contain flood from Lake Nyos in Cameroon.

The PDP insisted that Nigerians in the north are mindful of the fact that their collective interest and aspiration are better protected under Mr. Jonathan hence the support and eagerness to re-elect him come February 14.

You are deceiving yourself to be thinking the presidency (through PDP) will automatically come to the north in 2019 if Jonathan should win, which I know he can’t anyway. You better embrace the opportunity you have in Buhari now instead of building castle in the air with PDP that doesn’t respect gentleman’s agreement

Even If Buhari Picks the Pope as Running Mate. He Will Not Get Our Vote.

Former military dictator, Maj General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) picked Save Nigeria Group (SNG) Convener Pastor Tunde Bakare as his running mate in the 2011 presidential election and I was not moved. This time, he has picked another Pastor, Yemi Osibanjo and my decision remains the same. I will not vote for Buhari and I have my reasons based on facts of our nation’s past.

Pa Buhari (73) is a great man in his own right and I respect him as an elder statesman. But as far as a democracy is concerned in this digital age and time, Buhari is not the best that Nigeria has to offer.

Abuse of power is the worst form of corruption in leadership. Buhari abused power when he was military Head of State. He stole $2.8Billion as Oil Ministers and Misappropriated nearly N40billion in PTF, buying fake drugs that sent 1000s of Nigerians to untimely grave.

When Buhari seized power, he threw Alex Ekwueme into prison in KiriKiri and kept Shehu Shagari under house arrest. How do you explain such double standards?

During Buhari, journalists were brutalized, hushed and muzzled. Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabor were jailed under the evil laws of the Buhari regime.

During the Buhari regime, 53 suitcases were smuggled into the country at a time the nation’s borders were closed because of the change in the colour of the national currency in 1984. Have we forgotten?

Under Buhari’s regime, there was a law against 18 year olds going to Hajj. Tunde Idiagbon took his 14 year old son to Hajj and nothing happened.

Lawal Ojuolape, Benard Ogedengbe and Bartholomew Owoh; these three men were ordered to be executed by Buhari under a retroactive decree for the crime of drug trafficking which didn’t carry a death penalty wen they committed the crime.

The late Tai Solarin was imprisoned and refused treatment for his asthma by this same Buhari.

Secretary General of the ruling NPN Uba Ahmed who was Buhari’s tribesman was arrested at the airport only to be released on Buhari’s orders and allowed to fly out of the country.

Buhari, like IBB and Abdusalami Abubakar treated the Oputa Panel with disdain. He refused to show up at the panel.

I will not vote for Buhari in 2015; not even if he picks the Pope as his running mate. – .

    • the truth

Yes, that’s the most important because they’re the ones being brain washed easily to join insurgency. Educated mind reasons before acting but un-educated mind looks up to the educated ones for solutions. If the educated elites in the north can deliberately allow their sons and daughters to roam the streets without formal education, it’s quite obvious there is reason behind it….”army of radicals waiting to be used”

  • taiwo

The emergence of new airlines (local and foreign), in the Aviation sector and the increased number of travellers at the airports underscore the heartwarming performance of the government in the sector. Who has not seen the giant strides the government has made in the educational sector? How many universities did we have before Jonathan came into office? According to available statistics fourteen new universities have been added to the original number. In fact, 12 new federal universities were established by the government to ensure that every state in Nigeria has at least one federal university. This achievement is unprecedented in the annals of this country.
What of the Almajiri educational programme which targets the poor northern rural dwellers? The programme, the first of its kind, has helped to refocus the attitude of the poor in the north to the need to acquire formal education. Many state governments in the north have keyed into the scheme by establishing special centres to train their people, particularly the youth, in special skills in order to keep beggars off the streets. The benefits of the Almajiri educational initiative are innumerable. Suffice it to add that the new awareness the programme has created on the subconscious of an average northerner is such that it will not be too long before illiteracy is eradicated in the north. I need not write about the hundreds of billions of naira given to tertiary institutions in the country as intervention funds to provide basic amenities and infrastructure required to boost learning, and enhance the quality of certificates issued by the tertiary institutions. Such government agencies as the Nigerian Education Trust Fund (NETFUND) and Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) have contributed immeasurably to the growth we have experienced in education in Nigeria.
Only recently the Federal Government, working in conjunction with the National Universities Commission (NUC), has designed a programme to award scholarships to some Nigerian eggheads to study in the best universities abroad for their masters and PhDs. The idea is to train the desired manpower to drive the Nigerian economy and take Nigeria to the next level of technological advancement .Any body that chants change against the GOD ordained president of our nation is plain gaga and on dream land. Our reply to them will come on feb14 the day we shall express our love massively for Jonathan

  • tyson

The grounds on which General Buhari is being promoted as the alternative choice are not only shaky, but pitifully naive. History matters. Records are not kept simply to assist the weakness of memory but to operate as guides to the future.

    Prof. Wole Soyinka

Those with “calcified memory” who are turning History on its head by revising it and painting a villain like Buhari in glowing terms are destroying the future of Nigeria and its peoples. They are essentially saying that it does not matter how crooked and criminally tendentious you are in your trajectory and as it relates to the forgery of your school certificate, you could still be rewarded with a leadership position. It means an Ibrahim Babangida, if young and healthy enough, able to buy the press and engineer an effective propaganda to spread falsehood against the incumbent president, could come back and rule Nigeria tomorrow. It means that a Sanni Abacha, if he was alive and well, and able to do the same, as we saw in the clean bill of health that Buhari handed down to him, he could come back and rule Nigeria. It means that all the things we teach our children –converning forgery of certificates-corruption and the difference between evil and good – means nothing to Buhari and drug dealers like Tinubu. It then portends that very soon, we will be grabbing armed robbers and assassins from the streets to rule over us!

Even with 11 out of 13 former Presidents of Nigeria coming from the North, all of them combined have not done half of what Jonathan has done for the North but because of the religion of Islam and ethnicity, the majority of voters in the core North will vote Buhari, a secondary school drop out.
Economic Initiative polls suggest that 8 out of 10 Yoruba-Muslims will also vote Buhari solely because of the religion of Islam.
MKO Abiola and his wife, both Yoruba-Muslims would have been alive today if 8 out of 10 Gambari had joined the battle for June 12 to demand for Abiola’s mandate. But they did nothing to support Abiola and instead encouraged Abacha/Buhari’s administration to have assassinated Kudirat and murdered MKO Abiola. The Yoruba-Muslims supporting Buhari are not only hopeless people, they are also barbarians.
To the Yoruba-Christians, don’t be politically correct. Speak out against the religion politics the Yoruba-Muslims under the APC have introduced to Yorubaland.

What a selfish question is this? Did God create the rest of Nigeria to serve the North? What is the North contributing to the rest of Nigeria? Must Northern parasitism continue for ever? Is there no such thing as self-help in your vocab over there?

It is all the gimme, gimme. Everybody knows that’s why you are desperate to impose the old illiterate man so that he can steal our oil to feed the lazy Northerners. Everybody knows this is what boko haram war is all about so that you people can discredit President Jonathan and shift power to the North and steal our resources to feed the North. Get a life.

@toilet. WHAT HAS GEJ DONE IN THE SOUTH SOUTH, SOUTH EAST AND SOUTH WEST? ANSWER.

GEJ CONFESSED WITH HIS OWN MOUTH- NOTHING!!!

        • henry angelo

If he have done nothing for the south-south, south-east ,south-west and have absolutely done the needful for north why are they now complaining. If the abandoned can say good of this man what’s then the wish of the northerners if not power, if I was abandoned by GEJ and he remembered some people and I still give credit to him for remembering a particular region that was abandoned by their own wishful leaders over the years that means I will one day be remembered by him if he is given a little more chance. The northerners should be very glad that their messiah has come and not pushing him out with violence just for selfish want of power. They will not know what they have until they loss it. Be sincere and you will be transformed

BUHARI means many things to different categories of people….

To the ELECTION RIGGERS, he is a coupist.

To the less privileged NIGERIANS, he is an helper

To the CORRUPT, he is Mr. Jailor.

To the DRUG BARONS, he is a killer.

To the runaway thief, he is a crater.

To a dying Economy, he is a saviour.

    To INDISCIPLINE, he is brutish.

To TERRORISTS, he is an enemy.

To the BROWN ENVELOPE JOURNALISTS like AIT, he is a dictator.

To his children, a daddy to be proud of.

To his wife, a worthy husband.

To the oil INDUSTRY, he is a refineries builder.

To DORA AKUNYILI, he is a caring boss.

To NIGERIA, he is a fixer.

To JONATHAN, KASHAMU, FFK, he is a nemesis.

To the PDP, he is a destroyer.

To the APC, he is the CHANGE.

To the ordinary PEOPLE, he is one of them.

Your behaviour determines your definition of BUHARI. To me and my family he is the leader of much needed changes in Nigeria!

GMB 2015 let the changes for better Nigeria begins. God bless Nigeria!

“My answer is very simple. Jonathan did not create Boko Haram.

“I am very happy when I saw Buhari saying that if he becomes President of Nigeria on May 29, 2015 , Boko Haram would be settled within two months. What magic would he perform? If he knows the solution to Boko Haram, he may have an idea of how it was created. It is politics that brought Boko Haram to national prominence. Must they hijack Boko Haram for self ambition in order to run the government of Jonathan down?

“The foreigners came and left Nigeria with no solution to Boko Haram insurgency. And Buhari is promising to solve the problem within two months. It is not that he would carry arms to stop the insurgencies, he will only make a pronouncements and they will lay down their guns which means. Could that mean he knows how they were created? And one wonders what would be their reasons for killing innocent people in this country. People should be able to see clearly that there is no magic in the large manner.”
