Pilgrimage to Jerusalem is waste of funds – Pastor

Joe Femi-Dagunro, a senior pastor with the Grace and Glory Chapel, Lagos, on Sunday said that Christians should not indulge in wasteful spending by taking religious trips to Jerusalem.

The cleric made the remark during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos during the church’s inaugural Thanksgiving Service in Ikeja.

Mr. Femi-Dagunro said that as much as people could travel to see other climes, they should not attach a trip to Jerusalem as a compulsory task in the practise of Christianity.

He said that such money could be put to more productive use by building industrial and Information Technology parks for the development of the Nigerian youth.

“There is no point for us not to say the truth, if we believe in it. There is nowhere that it is written in the Bible that Christians must visit Jerusalem.

“Jesus did not say: ‘You must visit my tomb.”

“We are wasting money on such trips and that money could be used to support the youth to build industrial parks, or to develop IT parks.

“So, church leaders have a role to speak the truth and advise government on how it can do this,” the cleric said.

He also advised that churches should begin to train their members on skill acquisition, to improve themselves so as to be able to serve the church better and also get opportunities to make better living.

“It is high time that Churches began, as they schedule week days for prayer meetings, to dedicate one day for skill acquisition.

“They can train the people they use in the church, or mentor them, in order to develop the people for their good as well.”

Mr. Femi-Dagunro also urged churches to embark on more humanitarian projects such as building cottage hospitals, in addition to building universities.

Truly its never in the bible not even in the history of both late and contemporary Christians. The history of Nigerian christians pilgrimage stated when we the christians believed that government is spending on Muslims going for pilgrimage. For accountability, equity and fairness, the christians that suppose to ask for a stop to the use of tax payers money to finance a religion in a country that claim “secularism”, they ends to ask for their “share of the national jamboree”. Again, after the pilgrimage, the Israel issue tourist certificate not religious one so to show you how they view us.

Don’t worry APC will ban any use of govt fund for all religious pilgrimage,,if you have the means go for pilgrimage..no religion makes it compulsory..only on your ability and economic strength.

    This Pastor is absolutely right.
But do remember that, today instead of the European Colonizing Romans against whom Jesus took a stand, Jerusalem has been taken over by European Zionist Jews(Ashkenazis).
    Let us first liberate Jerusalem.

My fellow brothers in Nigeria (christian), Islam made it compulsory for any person that have the ability to go for pilgrimage. Don’t say they (christian) copy from Muslim. If you say that, it means we are just going as we wish.
No, No, it’s compulsory in Islam.

So, why does President Jonathan waste our money by going to Israel to kneel down “prayerfully” before Judaists Isrealis who are basically tourist guides in Israel, but who may basically be working legitimately for the security interests of their country-Israel ? Was President Jonathan mis-advised by his business men and merchant Pastor friends-Mr. Ayo Oritsejafor and Mr. Oyedepo of Winners Chapel to go on these visits? Were these visits mere political gimmicks to capture the imagination of Christians for election purposes-something like photo-op? I am a Christian. I have checked the bible many times. A visit to Jerusalem is NOT part of the Christian faith. Relgious tourism? Yes. But who benefits economically? The economy of the modern state of Israel and NOT christian faith for the modern state of Israel is not even Christian in any sense-it is JUDAIST and they do not pretend to be christian.

Other people from other countries visits Egypt, Israil, Syria, and Turkey for tourism but so funny that Nigerian Christians calls it pilgrim. Nigerian Christians troops to church every Sunday but I stay in London and see only the aged and jobless go to church.Nigerian Christians always copy anything from Muslims. I wonder why would one go to church to sing and dance when clubs are out there, or go to church and study Bible from half baked pastor when there is recognised theology courses in all universities.
