APC to PDP: Enough of mudslinging, let’s dwell on issues

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has challenged the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to tell Nigerians how it plans to move from the near zero governance of the past six years of the Jonathan Administration to good and purposeful governance, instead of engaging in perpetual and tiring mudslinging.

”We believe that elections should be about issues that will be beneficial to the electorate, not about throwing everything but the kitchen sink at a particular candidate simply because of his soaring acceptability.

”Therefore, it is time for the PDP to end the muckraking and tell Nigerians how it plans to tackle the worsening insecurity in the land; the collapsing national currency, with the US dollar now exchanging for N215; massive unemployment, especially among the youth, decayed infrastructure and the unprecedented corruption under President Jonathan’s watch,” the party said in a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed.

It said the essence of the sustained campaign of calumny against Muhammadu Buhari by the PDP is to distract the APC from telling Nigerians how it plans to effect the much-needed change from zero to purposeful governance, and also to sweep under the carpet the glaring failures of the Jonathan Administration.
”In both instances, the PDP has failed, as Nigerians have refused to be swayed by all the scandal mongering by the PDP, while the APC has remained focused in selling its game-changing manifesto to the citizenry,” APC said.

The party said the PDP and President Jonathan should tell Nigerians what happened to the 20-billion-dollar missing oil funds, amid concerns that the money could have vanished into the ruling party’s slush funds for electioneering campaign.

”Nigerians are also asking: Mr. President, where are the Chibok girls who were abducted nine months ago, and whom you promised to reunite with their families? What happened to the stage-managed truce with Boko Haram and why has no one been punished for deceiving Nigerians? Mr. President, where is the report of the forensic audit you ordered into the missing $20b oil funds? It is now two months since the deadline set by your Finance Minister for the release of that audit report. Will the report go the way of others before it?

”Mr. President, why are our soldiers being sent to battle Boko Haram without the necessary equipment, even though trillions of Naira have been budgeted for the security and defence sector under your watch? Why are soldiers having to buy even their uniforms and the wounded among them financing their medical treatment, as some soldiers said in a CNN interview?

”Mr. President, why have you castrated the anti-corruption agencies, rendering them comatose and unable to tackle the runaway corruption under your watch? What signals are you sending to the EFCC, for example, when you picked as your campaign spokesman the same man who is facing corruption charges? Is that a way of telling the EFCC to let the notorious suspect off the hook?
”Mr. President, you vowed that those involved in the N2.6 trillion fuel subsidy scam will never go unpunished, but many months later none has been punished and it is back to business as usual.. When will you consider stealing of public funds a serious act of corruption, sir?
”Mr. President, you said while campaigning for the 2011 elections that ‘four years is enough for anyone to make significant improvement, and if I can’t improve on power within this period, it means I cannot do anything’. Why should Nigerians trust you to deliver on your promises this time around, now that the power situation has gone from bad to worse under your watch?
”Mr. President, instead of creating jobs for the teeming unemployed youth of Nigeria, your administration has been fleecing and sending them to their early graves, as it happened during the fraudulent Immigration recruitment exercise in March 2014 when many innocent youth got death instead of jobs? When will you move from creating phantom jobs to real jobs? These are the issues that are bothering Nigerians and these are the issues they want answers to, instead of engaging in an unprecedented personality-focused campaign,” the party said.

APC said the truth is that the PDP and President Jonathan do not have any answers to those serious issues raised above, hence they have decided to engage in a multi-pronged approach of mudslinging, campaign for election postponement and the instigation of violence to scuttle next month’s general elections, among others.

Thanks to Mr Lai Mohammed. This issue based campaign should be sustained against GEJ and PDP. Let them provide answers to all these pertinent questions. Nobody is interested in PDP’s campaign of calumny and mudslinging. APC has set itself apart as a party with democratic principles and ideology. Keep up the good work. Carry on with these issue based campaign to all nooks and crannies of Nigeria. Let every single voter get enlightened and make their choices based on how GEJ has run this country in the past 6 years. A government full of lies and deceit.

APC, if I were in your fold I would not have cheered this kind of statement. APC itself has not addressed issues all this while. Why don’t you begin to address issues instead of teaching another party how to go about its own campaign?

Lai where were you for the past one week of Buhari’s certifcate saga. I will ask you only two questions. With your shouting of change, why did you fit in an old person? When there are young viable person. Look at your presidential candidate, he has no more power to conduct the affairs of this big nation.Look at what happened in Ogun campaigning rally. Please watch channel YouTube Toward the Buhari speech he can no longer shout APC slogan. He had to be piloted away from the stage. It is a shameful insident.WATCH!!! Secondly while did Buhati chose the option of WAEC in his INEC registration form when their are other options like primary leaving certificate or ten years job experience he preferred waec when he knew he did not have it. In lieu of this ,he had failed himself.

Please what sort of issues based discussion when Lai Mohammed deliberately tells lies everyday.Lets talk of the alledged missing $20billion that a senate committee comprising even members of his party has said no such money is missing after a probe ?
On terrorism and chibok girls,Is he not aware of the efforts being put up by the FG including regional and Global assistance to curb the menace. Is he not aware of even a ceasefire proposal which at that time was opposed by his party because they were not in power. On EFCC and ICPC can he truly say that the president is thwarting the efforts of the agencies. There are several cases in court against several persons in both APC and PDP.The said Campaign Director was until recently a member of the opposition. There was no problem then.On fuel subsidy scam cases are in court while some persons decided to make refunds to the FG .Is he not aware? On Power Supply in the country, yes it is not yet 24hrs supply a day but there is improvememet.Today if there is a fault in an area, officials from the distribution companies come to effect repairs immediately, unlike previously when residents in the area had to contribute money to effect repairs.Everybody can see the efforts in job creation through deliberate policies in favour of the private sector.Yes everybody has not been employed ,but what is required is conitnuity of the policies and improvement. What is the APC offering differently?Lastly, what is calumny in demanding a presidential candidate something as simple as making his academic qualifications certificates available? This is a simple matter that should not last more than 24 hrs.

You have said nothing here. What about the job seekers that died during the immigration recruitment exercise.

Great article but I am of the opinion that not until Government creates enabling environment via standard policy that facilitates an assured market for whatever is produced locally, we are all in a 360 degree position.

I support your views and figures quoted but do u realize that the population growth rate is predicted at 2.5% annually..check this against Naija Youth Population for the next ten year , then you’ll know we may face a lot of issues if the youths are not prioritized.

Another phase is that our leaders should be enlightened on why they need to stop using the youth as political thugs by creating a future for them not giving them peanut to serve during the election alone.

Much could be achieved through agriculture and Technology only if we have the right think tanks like Dr. Akinwumi ADESINA

    His bless Nigeria
