Jonathan “hypocritical” over railway, South West – APC

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of being hypocritical over his persistent claim of reviving the railway when in actual fact he has bluntly refused to grant the necessary right-of-way approval to the Lagos Metropolitan Transport Authority (LAMATA) for the construction of its redline light rail project from Iddo to Ifo in Ogun state with a capacity to carry one million passengers per day, this is inspite of the fact that investors were ready to invest over one billion dollars in the project.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the party said in failing to grant the approval, which has been pending since May 2013, President Jonathan premised his action on the fact that Lagos is an ”enemy state”.

”President Jonathan is simply being hypocritical when he listed the revival of the railway as part of his Administration’s so-called achievements, during the kick-off of his electioneering in Lagos, and during which he also tried to project himself and his party as friends of the South-west in general and Lagos in particular. His words and actions since assuming office six years ago do not support that

”He claims to have revived the railway but did not tell Lagosians how he has stopped, in its tracks, the LAMATA Red Line Light Rail Project that would have alleviated the suffering of Lagosians as they commute daily across the densely-populated city, not to talk of the loss of over 30,000 jobs that would have been created by the project,” it said.

APC said there is no stronger indication that President Jonathan holds the South-west in general and Lagos State in particular in contempt than his failure to grant the right-of-way approval for this project, considering its massive benefits that include ease of transportation, the decongestion of the city, the creation of at least 30, 000 jobs and the attraction of huge investments that the project, if approved, would have brought to the state.

”What about the new economic activities that would have been generated along and in the vicinity of that corridor of the new rail line if the President had granted the right-of-way approval? If indeed Mr. President is now a convert for economic growth and progress of Nigerians of all tribes who live in Lagos, as he pretended to be during his electioneering campaign flag-off, he should grant the approval today,” the party said

It said contrary to the image of friendship with the South-west in general and Lagosians in particular, which Mr. Jonathan sought to project during his electioneering campaign in Lagos, he has nothing but contempt for the people of the region.

”During the protests over the fuel price hike in 2012, President Jonathan dismissed those complaining as the sons of rich men in Lagos who have more than one car. Earlier in 2011, he described the South-west leaders as ‘rascals’, and he has since followed up by ostracizing the region in the allocation of government appointments and infrastructural development, just to mention a few instances of his contempt for the region.

”The latter-day construction of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway is a vote-winning gimmick that has back-fired as the project has only progressed at snail speed apparently for lack of much-needed funds, while Nigerians have continued to die and suffer daily on that road,” APC said.

The party reminded the President that no one is deceived by his hypocrisy as far as Lagos and the South-west are concerned, because he has shown in actions and words the disdain, at times bothering on pure hatred, which he harbours towards the people of the region.

With this information provided by Lai Mohammed, may God punish all the SW pdp members who have stunted the economic growth of the region just because of politics and because they want to capture Lagos and the rest of SW for the useless party called pdp. This is another monumental failure for jonathan who thinks so narrowly forgetting that his own people from his zone live in Lagos. The WB estimated that 127,000 people come to Lagos monthly because of the many opportunities. What jonathan and pdp fail to realize is that Lagos State have all the tribes and ethnicity of Nigeria and if he has approved this right – of- way for Lagos State, it’s not the Yorubas or APC government that will benefit from the project but all Nigerians from different zones I know it is bastards like ogunlewe, femi- fani kayode, the drug baron kashamu who is wanted in USA, obanikoro, jimi agbaje, fasheun and some other deranged pdp fools who will advice the clueless unproductive jonathan not to approve the right- of – way that will serve all Nigerians. Is the magnificient state of the art Ikoyi bridge being used by Yorubas alone? jonathan and pdp do not get it at all what good governance and development means which is why they have failed for 16 years.

What right of way do you want? The whole of Lagos belongs to you why not make another way for your train. Must you climb on Federal train to go your way? APC government is trouble.

      • Remi

Try to find out what is meant by right of way before you make your comments. PDP federal government are refurbishing trains in 2015 that Tafawa Balewa and the British installed newly in the 50’s and 60ks yet they want us to applaud them. In this age when trains are doing 300km per hour.

        • Okey

It is exactly the “300km per hour” that Jakande started but Buhari stalled it.

BUHARI TRUNCATED LAGOS METROLINE AT A HUGE COST TO NIGERIA

    Jumoke Akijide,

    30 Dec 2014

The presidential candidate of the All
Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), has come
under fresh attack for his decision to terminate the Lagos metro line
project initiated by the Alhaji Lateef Jakande administration to ease
    traffic in the metropolis.

The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ms.
Jumoke Akinjide, said the former Head of State truncated the
opportunity of a free flow of traffic within the metropolis and by
extension, the economic growth of the South-west because of his hatred
for the region and his determination to see its growth retarded.

She said the countries that were no where near the growth attained by
the South-west when the APC presidential candidate stopped its metro
line project had since advanced to become world economic powers,
insisting that rather than advance the course of the South-west to
realise its potential to springboard the nation to a world economic
power status, the maximum ruler, she said, however opted to pay a $500
million fine for breaching the agreement guiding the rail project
execution to ensure the rail project dream was not realised.

She said the Lagos metro rail project was designed by the Jakande
government to facilitate transportation within Lagos and surroundings,
but was terminated when Buhari military regime took over in December,
I983, thus making the country to forfeit a whopping $60 million, which
was part of the loan that had been paid by the Jakande administration
before Buhari toppled the civilian government.

The minister who spoke in Abuja on Monday, held Buhari responsible for
the unending traffic problems in Lagos, the seat of Nigeria’s economy,
submitting that he succeeded in setting the South-west back in terms of
judicious time wasted to gridlock and also employment opportunities
that the rail project would have provided for the people.

“It could not be imagined the kind of hatred Buhari has for the
South-west that could have made him dashed the hope of the government
that initiated the rail project which was going on smoothly and on
schedule before he forced himself to power,” she lamented.

In her projection, the project would have been completed on time if not
for General Buhari’s coup and the transportation nightmare Lagosians
face today would not have existed.

“The visionary Jakande administration had concluded all the plans to
finance the project, putting everything in place for its successful
execution. My father provided the legal framework in his capacity as
the Attorney –General at the time, and the state government had
deposited $50million after securing a $450 million loan at six per
cent fixed interest rate for 25 years.

“At the time the project was cancelled the government had paid part of
the loan and therefore had no worry about financing the project. But
Buhari stopped the project and went ahead to pay another $500million,
which was almost enough to complete the project, as fine to the foreign
company handling the project for terminating the contract.”

Describing the APC presidential candidate as a sworn enemy of the
South-west, the minister said: “I don’t see the reason some Yorubas
would still gang up with this man to further rip us off.

He has never done us any good and he can never do us any good. He had
his opportunity to show us love, he never did, instead he humiliated our
leaders and detained them for no just cause, yet some people want us to
embrace such enemy because of their own selfish interest. Buhari is not
new to failure, he will fail again,” she submitted.

    • burning spear

thank u for reminding this lir mohamed

    • Mosaku 147

If you were not daft, you should know jumoke and her dad are both political nonentities in yorubaland.

      • emmanuel

Agreed they are by your definition political nonentities right.

If Jakande started that Metroline which Lagosians old enough knew so much about, would you be talking about that today?

So answer the question, who stalled it?

You stupidity is beyond redemption because you are overtaken by greed and avarice from the peanuts you are probably paid or your expected benefits if Buhari by Tinubu wins the presidency

Onike speak for your brother. Wahala defend your Fulani brother saviour the wicked soul – change ko, change ni

      • Okey

You have not faulted or disproved her claim. Rather, you merely took the position irredeemable nonentities take as they are bereft of facts, logic and reason or anything meaningful to contribute.

  • burning spear

U must be on drugs like tinubu–the same Buhari who abused Awo—called him an election rigger—–killed Abiola and kudirat–while with Abacha—–jailed late Fela because he called him a thief–where is Beko–what about Gani–whom he sent to Bauchi prison-4 ten months–did Obj erect yr Lagos-Ibadan road–?-is it not Jonathan who is building roads for u -in d south west?–the very roads that obj neglected–show us one road that obj built as president in the SS–just one—monkey

    • Mosaku 147

I hate to encounter your likes on this forum. Please can you allow true Nigerians to discuss what we expect from the next and new administration?

      • emmanuel

He told you the bare truth. Yar Adua handed Lagos Ibadan highway to the rogue called Obasanjo and he did not touch it. The same thief eat the money for Benin Lagos Highway (orji Uzor Kalu).

Now which road did Obj build in the SW like Burning spear asked?

He ensured Ibadan Ilorin road was washed away.

Meanwhile, most Yoruna voices died early in the last thirty years because of what the Fulanis probably fed them with while in detention and you are still preparing to join your ancestors by the time they begin sidelining Tinubu, your likes will raise your ugly head (vlices) and the will throw you in jail and give you the neutralisation serum. I know God has mercy on you and he will deliver you by not allowing Buhari win next month

You think say you know anything for Nigeria?

        • I Hate Sycophant Truly

If from your statement OBJ and Orji Uzor ate contract money (Both PDP members), is it the opposition that will collect the money or take them to court when they don’t have the machinery to do so?
You wish to side someone but blindly shut him on the foot with just two lines of words.

    • adetolure Taiwo

I like your point on Lagos Ibadan road because GEJ is doing well, so OBJ and APC should go to hell

  • emmanuel

    Liar Mohammed shut up.

You guys offer free train ride during Sallah from Lagos to Ibadan, Ilorin and Oshogbo na which train una dey use boost your APC hegemony?

    Nonsense.

    $1. Billio. Ole!

The CMS Badagary road when you dey do don finish? Someone said three years ago that. Project will last over 10 years and it is a campaign trap.

The funds spent on it so far really confirms that it is a drain pipe.

What of your brother monorail fraud in Port Harcourt?

    APC repent or Perish.

  • Awarawa

Liar Mohammed, this same man sign the right-of-way for the Badagry-CMS redline corridor. How far have you gone with that in 8yrs? GEJ cleverly refused you to use that to take additional loan to squander if at all he declined such request. Amaechi said he gave Rivers state oil wells to other states, now this nonsense from APC. Why haven’t you mentioned anything about this since May, 2013(6months)! I thought you people said he did nothing?

  • Dapostle007

So many failed promises and yet they seek a re-election.. let’s secure our votes, the time for the anticipated CHANGE is know.. a new governance for new results… VOTE GMB/OSINBAJO for federal.. APC for 2015..

  • Ascort Denim

This APC/Boko Haram National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed is a natural liar and there is no cure for his lies than for Nigerians to go to the pooling booth on the 14th of February and cast their vote for Jimi and Jonathan to continue their excellent works.
I have never seen such desperation is getting power like I have seen in APC.
