Nigerians urge government to reduce fuel pump price now

The residents of Abuja on Thursday urged the Federal Government to reduce the fuel pump price, following the fall in oil price in the international market.

The price of oil began to slide in October 2014, hovering between $60 and $50 per barrel.

Some respondents said it was international best practice for the pump price to come down when the oil price crashed.

Hassan Giwa, a civil servant, said that government ought to have reacted to the fall in oil price by reducing the fuel pump price to N46 per litre.

“When crude oil was selling for about $100, we were asked to pay N97 per litre of petrol, now that it is selling for $52 it should be reduced to at least N45 and N47,” he said.

According to him, most Nigerians are not happy with the attitude government had adopted towards the review of the pump price of petrol in the face of the crash in oil market.

He said that it was logical for a seller to sell the products at a lower price when he is buying the products at a lower price from the market.

“In case of the Nigerian economy, it is when there is limited money in circulation that prices of goods and services go up,” he said.

Philip Onu, a businessman, said that government should reduce the fuel pump price in line with the fall in oil price at the international market.

According to him, there is no reason for government to drag its feet on the call by Nigerians to reduce the pump price.

“For goodness sake, governance is all about the welfare of the people and not what the people in government want; so I urge the leadership to act immediately,” he said.

He stressed that the government had promised Nigerians before now that it would operate according to the market forces.

Fatai Ajala, a taxi driver, said that government should listen to the call by Nigerians to reduce the pump price to at least N50.

He said that the reduction would reduce the pressure on Nigerians following the recent introduction of austerity measures by government.

A consultant, Phil Mojekwu who differed, said that the idea of bringing down the pump price of fuel would be counterproductive as the country depended on oil for its revenue.

“Left for me, the pump price of fuel should remain on the N97 per litre, to enable government to carry out its operations.

Ayo Otitsejafor, are you alleging that the governor of katsina who is a PDP goon (who once said that the opposition were cockroaches and should be crushed) is now working for Buhari? PDP which you have made a “christian” party is now planning to destroy churches in Katsina. Wonders!

    • Dan Arewa

He is just as clueless as mr dumbo. Government of hooligans, by drug barons and for Boko Haram financiers.

Yeah right!!!Mr Metuh kindly throw more light on the alleged assertion by the late NSA Azazi that,Boko Haram is in PDP.Thank you sir.

    • orkar

show me the quotation—cut and paste it here for me to see where late azazi–made that assertion—-what Azazi said was that the boko haram crisis escalated because members of the PDP from the fulani north –such as Ciroma–and co turned the PDP primary into a regional Islamic matter—-by presenting atiku as d sole candidate of the fulani north—-

      • Emeka

don’t you know how research for info, sir? its on youtube

The Igbos are mercenaries; they are there for sale. If the devil were to come today to say, I am the devil about whom the Bible and the Quran have spoken, I am prepared to give money, the Igbo will take the money and vote for him. Quote me!

This is the verdict of a Kano State delegate to the just concluded National Conference and convener of the Coalition of Northern Politicians, Academics, Professionals and Businessmen, Dr. Junaid Mohammed when he spoke in an interview with The Punch’–WHAT A SHAME. what a nation

  • Omo Akin

The CAN president and this General are an embarrassment to us Christians. Katsina State that is persecuting the church is run by PDP. So a PDP Government is persecuting a church because the church wants to vote for PDP (Jonathan). Is this part of the propaganda of the PDP. But this does not make sense. CAN, PFN what is your partisan support for PDP getting you if the same PDP is persecuting the church?

    • Dan Arewa

Omo, this clearly shows how clueless these dumb asses are. They are indirectly accusing the very PDP they have been fighting for. Idiots.

They just have been served a stop notice and asking them to request for permit. What is wrong in doing that? This is normal/legal if one understands how the likes of KURPB, FCDA etc works. Even if you have a plot owned by you, you must obtain a permit before you erect a building there. That is a provision in State laws, why won’t you abide by? Why won’t you just go obtain the permit.

It is now that I 100% confirmed that Ayo and co are real religious bigots. They really are the hooligans fueling the religious division of this country. I know Katsina State very well and I know how the State government have been supporting Christians for good eight years (the whole Ibrahim Shema’s administration). The State government gave them maximum protection throughout this administration.

Why are you turning around and biting the fingers that fed you? Is this not just another smoke in the smoke screen?

This is real cry wolf and people should not subscribe to it.
