The Rivers Police Command has confirmed that unidentified gunmen attacked All Progressives Congress, APC, supporters who were travelling to Port Harcourt to attend the party’s presidential campaign.
Muhammadu Buhari, the party’s presidential candidate, had on Tuesday flagged off his presidential campaign in Port Harcourt with a rally at the Liberation Stadium.
According to the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Muhammad Ahmad, the APC supporters from Buguma, Asari Toru Local Government Area were waylaid by gunmen on their way to Port Harcourt rally.
Mr. Ahmad said the “gunmen opened fire on the APC supporters,” but said that there were no casualties.
He, however, said the command has commenced investigation into the incident and assured that the Police will bring the suspects to justice.
