Christmas Celebrations: Nigerian army bans vehicles in Borno for 5 days

FILE PHOTO: Nigerian Soldiers

No vehicle would be allowed to move in Maiduguri and parts of Borno state for five days starting from Christmas Eve as soldiers take measures to avert attack(s) being plotted by Boko Haram terrorists during the Christmas celebration in the state.

The army at the 7 Division headquarters in Maiduguri, Borno state capital, in a statement said it had gathered copious intelligence that the Boko Haram had intention to launch a major offensive on parts of Borno State, with Maiduguri city a major target while Christians are celebrating Christmas.

In the statement, signed by the Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Sani Usman, the army said it had “security reports that Boko Haram was planning to launch a massive attacks on unidentified parts of Borno state “and particularly the state capital during the Christmas celebration”.

Mr. Usman said it was “consequent upon this that the 7 Division in consultation with the Borno state government another security agencies decided to ban all forms of vehicular movement in the state from 6:00pm on Wednesday 24th December to 7:00am on Sunday 28th December 2014”.

Similar restrictions were announced and carried out on two occasions when Muslims celebrated Sallah in 2013. The vehicular restriction will not only compel residents and those observing the yuletide to walk on foot within the metropolis and towns of Borno state, it will also hinder inter-state commuting while it lasts.

The army excluded only government officials on essential services as well as journalists that are duly authorised by their establishments from the directive.

The army at the 7 division wished the people of Borno state a hitch free celebration”, and asked members of the public “to be more vigilant and security conscious throughout the period and report any suspicious person or movement to the nearest security agency”.

    Another brilliant presentation, sir.
These are parts of the errors in Paul’s teachings that I faulted in the Seminary.
But I shall not agree that Apostle Paul was dishonest or deceitful.
He was just interpreting those OT texts to make points as he knew them and in effect stretched them too long.
I used to tell my students in Bible College in those days that ‘if you stretch text in the Scripture too much, you miss it’
This is just to conclude that only God is infallible.
I hope you saw my response to your “Whose report do you believe “.
    Cheers!

Your students in bible school and you write this? God have mercy. Imagine what you have sent into the world as graduates of your teaching…

      • Watch man

It is not surprising that there are many false teachers in many “bible schools”. We are in the last days and what we are seeing is in agreement with Jesus’ warning. My joy is that, God Almighty has all it takes to keep His own and He will do so; nobody can snatch his own from Him. Look it up in John 10:27-28:

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand”

        • luku

God made every human you see. I hate to hear or read people with a feeling that God the creator of everything and everyone has “favourite”,which you assume to be believers in christ, also called christians.

Let me shock you;upright muslims and stedfast believers in christ will inherit the vacuum called Heaven. God owns everything and everyone, and I will leave him to worry about who enters the vacuum.

          • Watch man

Where is it in the Bible? Kindly show me please. Thanks!

          • luku

John 3 vs 16. The condition to have everlasting life is,be a believer in christ. Am a believer in christ by birth, and still a believer in the gospel of Jesus the christ. I have taken time to listen to moderate muslims speak for and against the bible, while I stay neutral. And I can tell you that a moderate muslim knows and believes Jesus is still coming back. A moderate muslim believes in Jesus christ, and is aware Jesus walked the planet Earth. The bible says that whosoever believes in Jesus christ will not perish but have everlasting life. Whosoever can be a nigerian muslim or traditional worshipper. Whosoever can also be a citizen of any country who believes in Jesus christ and his gospel. Even Jesus always associated with unbelievers in his life time;He wanted to get them to believe even when the unbelievers at the time rejected him. Have you asked yourself why a thief on the right hand of Jesus christ entered paradise the same day he believed in Jesus? The reason is simple, the thief on the right hand of Jesus on the cross believed Jesus christ is Son of God. The thief never evangelized all his life. The thief never followed Jesus christ to spread the gospel. The thief never paid a tithe or offering(be it prophet or regular). During church meetings, some pastor will call for those who want to give their life to christ, and they are made to make a public confession of accepting and believing in Jesus christ. By so doing, they instantly become candidates of Heaven. That’s all.

          • Watch man

“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” (Matt.6:24)

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)

“Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:10-12)

The above scriptures are self explanatory. You cannot serve Jesus and another person or god. It is either you believe and serve Jesus alone or you are not His. There is no demilitarized or neutral zone. And there is no such thing as inheriting Christianity or being a Christian by birth because the Bible said, “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” (Psa.51:5)
Spectating from the sideline will also not make a person a servant of Jesus. There is no other way to God except by Jesus. His Word says so as you can see. The opportunity is available to you now.

          • luku

Having read the epistle you wrote in response to my winning submission,am more than convinced that you got the point. In a swift reaction to cover the truth I penned, you introduced “good deeds, serving two masters,Jesus is the way and everything you learnt in theology school”. Well,am not out to argue the scriptures with you. I have made my points. Have a blessed day.

          • Watch man

I am glad you have read those scriptures which constitute truth (not what you “penned” down). Since you have read the post, my objective has been achieved. To God be the glory.

          • luku

Mr Femi Aribisala, are you a hardliner? You respond to virtually every truth thrown at you. You rarely accept the opposing view even when it is right. You quote the writings of Paul when it supports your position, but turn round to condemn the same paul anytime the opportunity presents itself. I have mentioned your real name.Mention my real name, not pseudo-name luku. I dare you.

            Thanks for this, Bro.

          • Watch man

By thanking him (or her as the case may be) you have already agreed with his (or her) labelling me “Femi Aribisala”. This shows that you did not read my earlier posts. If you did, you would not be thanking him (or her) for his post (which includes calling me “Femi Aribisala”). No problems! Thank you!

          • Tee

            Never assume my brother.
You may misinterpret my word with my intention.
            Stay blessed and raptureable!
            Cheers!

          • Watch man

            God bless you sir!

          • Watch man

Concerning the thief you mentioned, he never did all those things because he did not have the opportunity to do them since he was already about to die. And for your information, it is not good activities that gets a person saved because even the heathen can do better. It is faith and belief in Jesus ALONE that brings salvation and not activities. It is only after a person is saved that activities become meaningful because it would then flow from a heart that loves God and not out of legalism.
However, godly sorrow came upon him, the thief, on the cross and he confessed Jesus and Jesus promised him paradise right there because of his change of heart; look it up in Lk.23:39-43; also read Rom.10:9.

          • luku

Let me quote you,”It is faith and belief in Jesus ALONE that brings salvation and not activities”. Did I ever mention good deeds as condition to be saved in my previous submission? No! Read John 3 verses 16,17,18,…..36. The new testament is clear on believe in Jesus christ. Am not out to argue. I will make my point, and leave you to make yours.

        • Tee

Am sorry sir, I do not know what you mean. Please pardon me.

          • Watch man

Read my earlier posts to decipher my line of argument. Rgds!

          • Tee

            Many thanks sir.
            Brilliantly put.
Now that i have retired, gives me time to engage in civilised and respectful discuss. Remember, sir ‘ by their fruit you shall know them ‘.
I love the Lord Jesus Christ, it’s some of His “followers” that I can not stand. No wonder the Lord says “the people of the world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than the people of the light ” Luke 16:8
Having a healthy discuss of Scripture does not make one “false teacher” or “fake bible school or seminary”.
The Scripture says study to show yourself approved ….. rightly handling the word of truth. (Paraphrased 2 Timothy 2:15)
            That’s what you do in “Seminary/Bible School ” .
I conclude that if one is not grounded in Christ before attending this school one may derail. Why it is so is that you study other religion too including Bible History, Old Testament Biblical Theology et al.
            Remain blessed my brother.

          • Watch man

Oh, you have retired? May the Lord Jesus strengthen you. You see, For decades, I have been learning not to take everything I hear in the name of the gospel without checking it out in the light of God’s Word, and I encourage others to do so. Every Berean student of scripture knows that you do not accept any message no matter who preached it until it has been put in the crucible of the sound Word of God. Please keep searching the scriptures and not accept anybody’s message until you have applied Berean type of test to it. God bless ye!

          • Tee

            Good to know.
            God bless you real good.
            Cheers!

He means you are his sheep and so bonded to him you cannot reason for your self. And even when you die and parts of you grace many soup puts at sala or Christmas, you have everlasting life! Lucky you!

      • Tee

        Please be specific.
        Stay blessed.

        • Ichoku Konyesilifu Efoagui

Just pernicious doctrine. You praise Femi Aribisala for discrediting the Gospel according to Saint Paul and you profess belief in the Bible!.

    • Ichoku Konyesilifu Efoagui

You can say it again! Talk of Bible revisionism! Una de try!

  • luku

Writings of Paul the pharisee are usually used by most muslims to negate the bible many times. I will also want to use this medium to correct the impression believers have. Believers in christ think they are “christian” . No! Christian is a name non-believers in Antioch gave to christ-like people. And therefore, there is nothing like christian religion in the true sense of the word. It is funny christ believers adopted a name non-believers gave them in Antioch. Still holding on to the term christian as a believer is an indication someone isn’t sure about his identity in christ, and therefore depends on non-believers to give him one. I know that a regular church goer won’t agree with this mentality.

    • MaskedPhantom

I am so thrilled to see such clarity of thought from my compatroits. Yet much still remains undone…

  • MaskedPhantom

While we await the unveiling of “the Antichrist”, methinks “the AntiPaul” is already come… Pastor Aribisala, how come you remain a christian when you have devastated the fort of christendom?

  • Watch man

I have read the article by Mr. Femi Aribisala and wanted to ignore it initially but because my heart would not allow me rest without responding I decided to put a few lines. First, time and space would not allow me to render enough hermeneutics and exegesis on all the scriptures mentioned by Femi, but I will only make a few points to let Femi know that he is the one guilty of what he accused Paul of.
For instance, Femi mentioned the following precious scriptures as what Paul copied in various places in the OT to paste in the scripture in Romans: – Psa.5:9; 140:3; 10:7; 36:1 and Isa.59:7-8. Now, the New Testament was written in Greek, what is generally called Koine Greek (Common Greek) which is commonly spoken on the street in the time NT was written. This was the language used in writing the New Testament. The Greek translation of the Old Testament of the Authorized KJV is called the Septuagint Version. Now, Psa.14:3 in the Septuagint Version of the Bible says:

“They are all gone out of the way, they are together become good for nothing, there is none that does good, no not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; their feet are swift to shed blood: destruction and misery are in their ways; and the way of peace they have not known: there is no fear of God before their eyes”

Rom.3:12-18 in the Authorized KJV says:

“They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

A cursory look at the above would show anyone that Paul (in Rom.3:12-18) was making reference to Psa.14:3 (Sept.). Therefore, it is not Paul that was running up and down the scriptures copying and pasting but Femi is.
Again, Femi mentioned two scriptures I need to highlight. He quoted 1Cor.6:9 and Mtt.23:34-35. His argument seem to suggest that the “righteous” referred to in Matthew is the opposite of the word “unrighteous” in 1Cor.6:9. Here again, Femi distorted the truth and by it misled others to believe same. Now, the Greek translated
“righteous” in Mtt.23:35 is ‘dikaios’ and it means ‘innocent’. The Greek translated “unrighteous” in 1Cor.6:9 is ‘adikos’ and it means ‘unjust, wicked, heathen’. Femi did not put Mtt.23:35 in proper context because he failed to realize that the innocence of Abel was what was being referred to as it has to do with the incident of Gen.4 wherein his brother Cain slew him. The same word ‘dikaios’ used in Mtt.23:35 was also translated “righteous” in Heb.11:4 which says:

“By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being
    dead yet speaketh”.

Now, in 1Cor.6:9, ‘adikos’ (“unrighteous”) was derived from two Greek words which are ‘a’ and ‘dike’. The Greek ‘a’ is a negative particle and whenever it appears before a word it gives the word the opposite meaning; ‘dike’ means ‘right, justice’. The word ‘dike’ appeared only 4 times in the NT where it was translated “vengeance” (Acts.28:4; Jude1:7), “judgement” (Acts 25:15) and “punished” (2Thess.1:9). So, when Paul used the word “unrighteous” in 1Cor.6:9, it should not be seen as the opposite of the word “righteous” as used in Mtt.23:35. You need to go back to the original word of the writer to understand the meaning of each word and its position in the light of the context.

From all these, it is clear to see that Femi is grossly distorted scriptures, lifting them out of context, twisting them to arrive at his desired intention, and all these in a bid to mislead his readers. Like I said before, I only picked a few of these verses to offer some explanations as there is no time or space to contain further exegesis/hermeneutics. All the other scriptures used by Femi were also distorted and twisted to arrive at his predetermined intention. I wish to therefore encourage readers not to believe anyone who distorts and twists the scriptures deceptively; don’t even believe me until you have verified what the Bible said. That was the attitude of the Berean believers whom the scripture said that “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” (Acts 17:11). One of the terrible signs of the last days is deception. When His disciples were
asking for the signs of the end, the first thing Jesus said was “Take heed that no man deceive you” (Mtt.24:4). I therefore urge all people of God to “Take heed that no man deceive you”.

Who now is distorting the Scriptures? Please Femi Aribisala, the Bible is not just another work of man that you or anyone else may subject to scholarly criticism or review. To a Christian like you, the Bible is the immutable, Unchangeable and constant word of God. You cannot accept one part and reject another part of the Bible.
