The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, YOWICAN, has called on the federal government to declare a State of Emergency on security in Nigeria.
Addressing journalists in Lafia, the chairman, North-Central zone of YOWICAN, Daniel Kazai, said the declaration will help put an end to the incessant killing of innocent Nigerians.
Mr. Kazai berated President Goodluck Jonathan for abandoning his duty to concentrate on electioneering campaigns while Boko Haram insurgents kill hundreds of Nigerians.
He said that the Federal Government is not doing enough towards ending the insurgency and other criminal activities in parts of the country.
“Some leaders are being unconcern about the unfortunate happenings in the country”.
“It is very unfortunate that our leaders are so heartless, selfish, so unconcern about what is happening to our people.
“You will see that while lives are being lost on daily basis, our selfish politicians are going from one place to another, canvassing for votes and I wonder who will vote them if the people are all killed”.
He said that until peace is restored to places such as Adamawa, Yobe, Borno and some parts of Taraba, Nasarawa and Plateau states, the 2015 general elections may not hold as the affected places are not safe for the exercise.
He said Boko Haram, rather than the government, should have announced the ceasefire since they are the ones at war with the government of Nigeria.
“Just yesterday we read in the media that the Boko Haram group has denied ever having any cease fire agreement with the federal government and we have continued to record more killings in the affected parts of the country. So it means that the said agreement has not been taken in anywhere and the security agents must sustain their efforts in the fight against this wicked people”
