Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s assessment tour to Local Government Areas of Ogun state on Monday turned bloody as one person was shot dead.
Several others were injured during the tour, witnesses said.
PREMIUM TIMES gathered that pandemonium broke out in Ilaro town of the State during the governor’s visit, as two rival groups of political thugs clashed over territorial rights.
The hoodlums, who were armed with various dangerous weapons, including guns, machete and charms engaged themselves in free for all.
At the end of the clash, one person was gunned down while others were injured.
A witness, Biodun Sowunmi, who escaped the fracas said the gangs freely used dangerous weapons during the fighting.
He however explained that the incident occurred outside the venue of the assessment tour.
When contacted, the Ogun State Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that one person lost his life, explaining that the incident was masterminded by hoodlums.
Mr. Adejobi disclosed that 16 suspects have been arrested while several weapons such as four pump action guns, cutlasses, axes and assorted charms were retrieved.
He said the arrested suspects would be investigated and those that are guilty would face the wrath of law.
