The Nigerian Police has decentralized the issuance of tinted glass permit for motorists in Nigeria.
In a statement, the Police spokesperson, Emmanuel Ojukwu, said the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, delegated powers to all Commissioners of Police across Nigeria to issue the permit.
Mr. Ojukwu said the decentralization of the permit is to help “bring the service closer to the people”, and avoid abuse in the process of granting the permits.
Motorists with such demand will get their vehicles examined to ascertain that the tinted glasses are factory fitted.
Mr. Ojukwu said the permits issued by the CPs will have the same authority as those issued previously by the police Headquarters.
“Such permits have the same authority as those previously issued by Force Headquarters and are valid throughout the Federation,” Mr. Ojukwu said.
The decentralisation upturns the directive by the former IGP, Mohammed Abubakar, who in April 2013 allocated sole powers to the office of the IGP as regards the issuance of tinted glass permits.
