At least 17 persons, including two female suicide bombers, were killed while as many as 22 others were injured on Saturday when two explosions went off at a crowded market in Biu town of Borno state, witnesses and police said.

A witness, Muhammed Labera, who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES on phone from Biu said the attacks were carried out by two teenage female suicide bombers who launched attacks at different sections of the market.

“The attacks occurred in two different places in Biu town market. One occurred near the GSM stalls, then another at at the place where chickens are sold,” said Mr. Labera.

The source said he counted up to 22 injured persons at the hospital even as more were still being taken to the hospital at the time he was speaking with our reporter.

“As I am talking to you now, those that are seriously injured are being conveyed to Maiduguri, while others are attended to here. But I still can see how relief workers are taking more injured persons to the hospital.”

He said 15 persons died in the blast alongside the two suicide bombers.

The Borno state police command has confirmed the incident quoting 13 dead and 53 injured.

The spokesman for the police in Borno state, Victor Isukwu, said the incident occurred at about 11:40 a.m.

“Today 2/2/2017 at about 1140hrs, two female suicide bombers infiltrated and gained entry into Biu town in Biu LGA”, a statement he sent out via WhatsApp reads.

“One of the bombers detonated IED strapped on her body within Biu Main market, while d other one detonated outside d market square. So far, a total of 13 persons excluding the two suicide bombers, have been confirmed killed in the two explosions.

“While 53 others sustained various degrees of injuries. Police patrols/EOD teams led by the Acting Area Commander Biu were promptly mobilized and dispatched to scene. The Corpses & the injured persons have been evacuated to General Hospital Biu. Meanwhile, normalcy has been restored and the area rendered safe.”

Biu is one of the major towns of Borno state that has managed to suffer less Boko Haram attacks.

It is also one of the towns that was not taken or sacked by the insurgents since 2009 when the Boko Haram war started.

But the town has experienced suicide bomb attacks mainly in its market. The last such attack took place was about two years ago.

…it is a plan. As elections draws close they (Northern extremists) are told to attack and kill more people at Markets, poor villages and odrinary Nigerians. And in the months to the election they will be given instructions once more to halt the attacks. Many of them will surrender and will be shown on Television and the last “kidnapped” Chibok girls will be released. Buhari will then claim credit and use it once more as a campaign strategy. Terrorism is the only way the North can ever remain relevant in Nigeria. Without Islamic terrorism what else? How else is the North relevant? Tell me if you know any.

This is why they don’t want separation, they want every nationality in the zoo to perish together. Where are those Oduafraudians and touts who defend Buhari’s hopeless government?

Where are Buhari’s online urchins? Why are you paid online rats not commenting on this story? Or is Jonathan still in power? What exactly has Buhari done for his three years in power?

He claimed to be fighting corruption, while his government has been plagued with corruption. He claimed to have defeated Bokoharam, why is insurgency still killing people in hundreds? He has destroyed our economic gains he met on ground.

Those urging Buhari to re-contest for second term are Nigerians worst enemies.

No to RESTRUCTURING of SHETTIMA’S BOKO HARAM. They must complete the northern presidency project for Shettima.

  • Solomon Brown

One of the many reasons why restructuring must happen, so everyone can police themselves and not have to worry about these Jihadists who are hellbent on taking everyone back to the eighteenth century.

I read of suicide bombings here and there on daily basis, but it’s only in Nigeria that we don’t mourn the dead but start a social media war. Has social media come to expose how shallow we reason? It’s pathetic I must say. Rest in peace to the dead and may their families be comforted. I weep and pray for my beloved country. See how its ‘future leaders’ think and comment. Why then won’t the old rule twice or thrice?

Which way Nigeria,no amount of lying can change the reality on ground, buhari just wasted a whole 30 months of Nigeria for nothing.all the lies about the defeat of boko haram is collapsing every day like pack of cards.
No nation can ever be built with lies no matter how appealing the lies may appear, before 2019,buhari shall ran out of his stock of lies, and nothing will be left for him to hang on.
May God forgive Nigerians for the regrettable error of judgment that handed Nigeria over to buhari to destroy and give our nation a Sincere ,God fearing, man of integrity, resourceful, intelligent and well endowed ,to help to recover what is left of Nigeria after buhari tsunami.
    May God help our nation.
