At least two persons were killed and many others feared injured as gunmen believed to be Boko Haram insurgents attacked Maikadiri village in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on Saturday night, officials said.

The attackers, according to a source from Askira-Uba, crept upon the sleeping villagers at about midnight and began to shoot sporadically.

“They killed at least two people and set ablaze some houses, including that of the Hakimi (District Head) of Maikadiri”, said Abbas Gava, the spokesman of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Borno State.

“The attack occurred between 12 midnight and early hours of Sunday: they also burnt down an SUV belonging to the District Head, and then took away two of his pick-up vans.”

“We just got the report from our commander in charge of Askira-Uba, Mr Hamidu Wampana, who confirmed the attack to us.

Also confirming the incident, the member of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Askira said Maikadiri village and its environs have been vulnerable to Boko Haram attacks because they share close borders with Sambisa forest.

He said “though the youth of the village took the courage to engage the attackers in a fight that sent them fleeing, the insurgents killed two persons and burnt the house of the district head”.

“The attack on Maikadiri came about two months after Muthaku village which is not far away was also attacked by Boko Haram”, he added.

The lawmaker said Makadiri and Muthaku are two villages of the same ward which are not secured by soldiers despite their proximity to Sambisa forest.

“We have soldiers deployed in Mussa, Dille, Lassa, Askira villages, but Maikadiri and Muthaku which are at the extreme are left without any form of security”, he said.

“This is not the first time these communities are coming under such attack; that is why we are pleading with the military to help deploy soldiers to villages bordering Sambisa in order to secure the safety of residents there.”

This week, Garba Shehu and his Buhari Media team will be showcasing PMB’s achievement in security. They keep harping on the fact that no territory of Nigeria is being held by any Terrorist. But that is not the matter. The issue is that these terrorists live among the people, keep killing innocent citizens, destroying their houses and other properties on a regular basis. Is this not sheer calousness? Who is benefiting from all this masterpiece in self-deceit?

…you saw the allocation to defence in the 2018 budget. When APC is out in 2019 you will hear the scam version of this Boko Haram war. There is no achievement or Mr Integrity anywhere.

I am glad to see that PT is continuing to remind Nigerians about the terrorism activities of boko haram. I am sure that some Nigerians have gone beyond anger and frustration to being fatigued by the almost daily news of deaths of their fellow Nigerians.

I fear that the killings will continue for decades, ‘other things being equal’ as economists would say. Further, it is clear that Nigerians are not blessed with solving problems. So far, no one has come up with solution to the boko haram problem. For more that three years now, I have been offering suggestions as to how boko haram can be suffocated.

The biggest problem the federal government(FG) and northern state government face is diverting the large pool of potential recruits available to boko haram. Even if the FG were to agree to grant boko haram amnesty, it wouldn’t take long for two or more boko haram factions to replace a retired boko haram.

Indeed as some of the boko haram leaders approach their 40s, and 50s, they will be eager to seek amnesty so that they can retired with FG ‘amnesty pension’.Of course, the boko harm turks will frown at this and continue fighting until they too reach their 40s and 50s, and seek their own amnesty. This is why boko haram should not be granted amnesty. It would not end boko haram reign of terror.

On the basic side, the FG and northern state governments would have to compete with boko haram to win the trust, mind and soul of the pool of children and jobless adults by offering them something more attractive than what boko haram is currently offering them. This would essentially be hope, education/training and jobs.

On the security side, the security agencies should organised each surrounding villages and towns into neighbourhood watch and civil defence groups with communication equipments to report any suspicious terrorist activities and raise alarm and war cries to local militias for battle. I have offered these suggestions a dozen or more times. Yet villages are still being terrorised; their inhabitants’ homes burnt down, but still no means of defence or help from outside.

As long as the entire Nigerian military is run and being control by “sunnis brand of Islam sects of top military commanders members” like General Burutai, Army Chief of staff; Air force Marshal Sadique; Retired Major General Dan Na’Allah; the National Security Adviser to President Buhari and Brigadier General Attahiru Mohammed, the fighting field commander in-charge of North-east region, the evil and human blood suckers group of Boko Haram will never be defeated, unless President Buhari is no longer in power it is only then that this evil group insurgences can be totally destroyed permanently or for good in Nigeria. The whole of the today Nigerian army are the most vicious and highly corrupts military force in the entire West-Africa region. Both the Lake-Chad and Cameroon soldiers will attest to this very fact of deepest corruption inside the Nigeria security forces. Also, these same Nigerian “Sunnis” top commanders daily happy that the fights against Boko Haram groups should ever continue to no end, because of the huge sum of millions of naira being daily spent in the fighting efforts by the Federal Government to get rid of Boko Haram group, as these tons of millions of naira are being spent these top military commanders are profiting heavily to themselves as being due to their corrupting minds and for not caring objective to defeating Boko Haram completely.
