Disgruntled politicians, treasury looters sponsoring IPOB – Nigerian Govt

The federal government says Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, is not set up to fight for right of anyone or group but a tool by opposition to destabilise the country.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said this at a news conference in Lagos on Sunday. He alleged that IPOB was being sponsored by “coalition of the politically-disgruntled and treasury looters”.

He said the intention of the sponsors was to divert attention from the efforts of the President Muhmadu Buhari administration and obliterate its laudable achievements.

“They believe that by sponsoring this group to destabilise the country and trigger chaos, they will realise their ambition of escaping justice and then be free to dip their hands into the nation’s treasury again.

“The signs are very clear; the activities of IPOB became heightened with the advent of this administration, and have been unrelenting since then.

“If this is coincidental, then that coincidence is uncanny, at the least,” Mr. Mohammed said.

Justifying his claims, the minister recalled that IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, was the same person who, during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, advocated the unity of Nigeria.

He said that during the period, Mr. Kanu led a protest at the Nigeria House in London against Boko Haram insurgency and in support of Nigeria’s unity.

He, therefore, wondered why Mr. Kanu would suddenly metamorphose into an IPOB monster who, was rather bent on dividing the country and setting the nation ablaze.

“Has anyone wondered why IPOB decided to up the ante, so to say, in its violent campaign immediately it was announced that Nigeria has come out of recession?

“Now, instead of the government being given the chance to consolidate on that monumental achievement, it is being distracted, and the airwaves have been polluted with the activities of IPOB.

“The good news of the end of recession and its fall-outs are
being replaced in the headlines with the IPOB show of shame,” he said.

Mr. Mohammed said that the self-imposed IPOB leader is the master of hate speech, incendiary, divisive and inciting speeches.

He noted that the activities of IPOB, “a rag tag mob” and its gullible supporters had in the past days reached crescendo and threatening the unity of the nation.

“They set up parallel military and para-military organisations, mount road blocks and even confront the Nigerian military.

“Their leader openly solicits for weapons and incites hatred and violence,” he said.

Mr. Mohammed said that the group had also formed a Biafra Secret Service, claimed formation of Biafra National Guard and engaged in physical confrontation with troops at a check point.

He said that government could no longer tolerate such excesses and commended the military for declaring the group, terrorist.

“No nation, not Nigeria, will allow that to happen unchallenged.

“The fact that Boko Haram festered because it was not decisively tackled by the immediate past administration meant we should never again give room for any organisation to threaten the corporate existence of our country.

“This is why I want to commend the Nigerian military for once again, living up to its constitutional responsibility.

“But for its quick and decisive intervention, IPOB could have set the nation on fire.

“Thanks to the decisiveness of the military; today the governors of the states in the South-east have wisely proscribed IPOB.

“This step, though long overdue, is still commendable,” he said.

The minister cautioned against the group’s next line of action, which, he said. was to externalise their lies and propaganda to seek protection.

He said that IPOB had started writing to the governments and the national parliaments of some Western nations to give the impression that they were victims of an ethno-sectarian violence orchestrated by the government.

“This is a blatant lie. It is not in the agenda of this administration
to suppress its citizens for whatever reasons.

“Not even the excesses of some people on the social media have forced the government to do anything that will stifle press freedom or freedom of expression,” he said.

The minister said the group had started harvesting gory videos from distant past and other lands to hoodwink the public and international community into believing that its members were the victims of state-sponsored violence.

“Such videos, which have very high emotive quotient, are circulating on the social media.

“We call on all to subject all such videos to the greatest scrutiny so as not to be misled.

“In particular, we urge the international community not to
jump to any conclusion on the basis of such videos,” he said. .

Mr. Mohammed appealed to the media to show restraint in its reporting of the IPOB issues.

He alleged that since the military deployed “Operation Python Dance II” to the South-east, it had been sensationalised by a section of the media.

“The divisive and jaundiced opinions of some anarchists have
been given a big play by a section of the media. This is wrong.

“The Nigerian media cannot afford to sit on the fence or engage in irresponsible journalism when the issue at stake is the very survival of our nation.

“This is because no professional, including journalists, can operate when a nation descends into anarchy,” he said.

The minister urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, resolute and say no to the incendiary and divisive tendencies of IPOB and
its cohorts.

The Nigerian military last week declared IPOB a terror group, giving give reasons for its decision.

The governors of the south-east also proscribed the group, after a meeting attended by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-political organisation.

However, the Ohanaeze on Sunday rejected the declararion of IPOB as a terrorist organisation.

      Nigeria under Muhamadu Buhari today

“When Nigerians asked: ‘When are we going to see the change we
      voted for
?’ They were told to wait until after swearing-in ceremony. After the
swearing-in, they heard silence without change, and they asked, when will this
change come? The answer was until Buhari government resumes office, and they
subsequently resumed office, but nothing happened. When the masses then asked
again when to expect the change Buhari promised, they were told to wait until the
appointment of the Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF).

      After three months,
the SGF was appointed, and the people asked again: ‘Where is the change?’
The answer was they should wait for their change after the appointment
of the Chief of Staff. The masses got worried and they said, ‘please when will
this change come?’ The answer was, until Buhari’s ministers are appointed.”

…..(2) Nigeria under Muhamadu Buhari today

After six months, Buhari appointed his ministers.
After that, the Buhari APC promised that the change would come when the
budget was prepared and told the masses to wait for the budget. When the
Buhari government prepared the budget, Nigerians were told they would have
the change after the National Assembly must have gone through the budget.

Later on, the National Assembly approved the budget,
and the people asked again: ‘Can we see and feel the change?’ Their (Buhari
APC party) reply was until the President signed the budget. After Buhari signed
the budget, there was still no change. People asked why. The APC government
said President’s (Buhari’s) ear is paining him and we should all wait until he was

          We have seen changes
          i. N Eastern part of Nigeria is enjoying the peace that eluded them for years
ii. TSA and other regulatory measures are checking leakages
iii. Diversification policy is yielding positive results in agricultural products, Mining and Manufacturing sectors.
iv. EFCC recovery on looted funds belongingto Nigeria is glaringly noted despite tedious judicial processes
          v. War on corruption is on, despite the hindrance from culprits within as is expected.
IPOB activities can be referred, as it’s being teleguied and sponsored by these corrupt NIGERIANS .

Give us proof of everything you said

          • M

            Lets see:
            i. Boko Haram and ISIS are still bombing and kidnapping in Borno and Adamawa states and getting away with it.
ii. TSA is only catching those whose money is in the bank. What about the money that was fouind int he apartment in Lagos? And other monies found buried in villages in the north?
iii. I would love to know how allowing the black market to thrive for 2 years, impoverishing Nigerians, has helped the diversification of the economy.
iv. The government still is unable to publish the names of treasury looters. Blaring Diezani name all over the press is not the same thing. And they still will fail to extradite her as the UK will jail her first.
            v. Buhari’s war on corruption is a war on past looters that are not in the APC. Looting is still going on by members and associates by the APC
What I don’t understand is why a veil seems to have come over the eyes of Nigerians whenever Buhari is involved. He is not superman with the mental and physical abilities to help overcome our problems. Nor is he a Henry Ford who at least surrounded himself with competent people. He is reactionary, not looking at the long term effects of his actions; and the people around him are either too afraid or lazy to give him the right advice.

This minister and the APC Government is known for EXCUSES UPON EXCUSES. Had IPOB not been in existence before this administration. This regime promoted KANO and the IPOD due to your TACTLESSNESS.

The ZOOAFRANS can write to any government they like. They should ask America how it treats the terrorist they catch.Wonder of little KANU has heard of GUNATANAMO and ABU Prisons.? Nigeria has the RIGHT and RESPONSIBILITY to protect its CITIZENS from terror and espionage; KANU the jobless lazy tout of UMUAHIA village should be tracked down and put behind bars, after much face palms. The foul mouthed little hunchback of Umuahia needs a good beating. Ungrateful asshole on BAIL. Flouted all conditions of his BAIL with impunity, proving he is above the RULE of LAW and Nigeria govt.and judiciary cannot maintain LAW & ORDER. Little KANU is a CURSE on the IGBOs and a DISGRACE to NIGERIA .

          victoria is dead

      • Powerlessconscious

        The two.

      • Rumournaire

Both are killers. State governments have the constitutional responsibility to deal with whoever threatens the security of their state denizens – be they armed robbers or herdsmen. State governors do not run to the President to help deal with armed robbers – the states deal with them decisively. Why should it be different with the killer herdsmen? State governors are simply lazy and not standing up to their responsibility. They should learn from Ekiti State. Since that state passed the anti-open-grazing law and started to enforce it, have you heard of herdsmen killing anyone in Ekiti State?

On the other hand, the President has the constitutional responsibility to deal with whoever threatens the territorial integrity of the country. That includes Boko Haram and IPOB.

So, stop comparing herdsmen and IPOB. They are both killer groups, but the responsibilities to deal with them lie with different governments.

      • Quantumspirit666

Many non Igbos supported KANU until he started behaving like a hooligan, insulting all and sundry and carving a tin god image for himself and going around like a medieval little baboon chief on walking stick. KANU is on the run now. He is a LOUD MOUTH, he is not a STRATEGIST, he has no GOODWILL, he has insulted all other people in NIGERIA and ABROAD that might have supported him .Nigeria is a corrupt country, but vowing to make it “WORSE THAN SOMALIA” is not what anyone would support.KANU has become a CAUSE on the IGBO.

The great Lai….switching to propaganda- his area of strength- after a glaring inability to effectively market the Buhari administration through conventional methods and emphasis on convincing, practical indicators- one reason there is growing crisis of confidence in the administration among non partisans. Mr Lai’s “hale and hearty” gaffe will not just blow away. Happy though that he is finding his voice once again

  • Sab

Another lie from the master. Much as I do not and never liked IPOB modus operandi, it is instructive to note that Laugh got it absolutely wrong, like always. IPhone, as in the Biafra agitation dates back beyond this APC regime. He knows also that Buhari’s decision to arrest NNAMDI against eminent Nigerians’ counsel led to the massive popularity January enjoyed. Nigeria’s liked brutal force against the maxim of silence being the best answer to a f… Now that the bubble has bust, his stooges have resorted to blame game that has been the characteristics of the APC government. Too, too bad!

    • VERITAS_ the rock of ages_

      good question

  • Mama Kay

Of course it’s obvious to every objective person. The loss of unfettered access to the treasury is the reason for all the noise.

Armed herdsmen, IPOB and afenifere clowns.

    • Kamal

But the ‘grassCutter’ had unfettered access to this treasury and is cruising around with full compliments of his office?

lol. their jejune minds can never comprehend the reality that they live in the superficial world and only those who have high level clearance with western intelligence agencies live in the real world and know what is going on and going to happen with its major players.

  • Rumournaire

Indeed, it was on 5th September 2015 – barely 3 months into the life of the Buhari administration, that Nnamdi Kanu went to the World Igbo Congress in Los Angeles to solicit guns to fight Nigeria. His words:

“…so we need guns and bullets from you people in America…..on the 22nd of this month something will happen it’s called the blood moon…, in ’67 before the war started there was a blood moon as well and there is blood moon this year because after this year we are going to be free no matter what happens because if we don’t get Biafra EVERYBODY will have to DIE, as simple as that…”

This was even before Buhari appointed his ministers. It would therefore seem as if IPOB is a direct reaction of election losers to their loss.

    • taiwo

Hmmmm. “blood moon” ké? Echoes of Jim Jones Guyana tragedy, I guess.

      • aisha ani

This is why I am not comfortable with Kanu, he sounds very much like Jim Jones and David Koresh of Waco, Texas fame. I seriously doubt if his sponsors can control him anymore, the man loves “the god like status” and he is not ready to give it up.

IPOB dislikes mainstream politicians to a fault, the Nigerian government should hire more intelligent analysts , the tyrant Buhari has been the biggest recruiter of sympathy for IPOB . They wanted to wipe out the Igbo’s but couldnt. so they use an Igbo man (people who would sacrifice their own mother or betray his family for money) today to start this IPOB thing, then government operatives infiltrate the group and commit atrocities so the government can role in the tanks, jets and soldiers and kill the infidel igbo people.

Perhaps I would have come to know. Some of these people are just here to peddle misinformation. I do stand corrected.

      • Cincinnatus

A referendum is not a good idea. It will ensure even more divisiveness in all parts of the country. Igbos who have built industries in other parts of the country will still suffer a hit even if they don’t support the Biafra agenda. It’s too complicated for that. We are too intertwined as a people. We should just see this as what it is, a group of people who see an opportunity to carve out a new territory for themselves at the expense of all of us by funding a Mr Kanu to cause all this problems. I promise you, there are foreign interest in this yet again like the French did in the past and it is an opportunity to deny us a grand future. Only a well organized country with proper cohesion can defend its territory and resources well. If we don’t solve this, we will expose our wealth to foreign plunderers as usual. Many foreign players know Nigeria is forecast to become a great nation by 2050, 9th largest economy. And they know we can only achieve it if we work together for it. They want that potential market in their pockets so they aid the destruction of our plans by enabling this divide. We need to be smart or our children won’t make it.

        • Chukwuka Okoroafor

If only people understood this point you raised. Many just seem to trust foreigners more than their fellow countrymen of a different ethnic group (or sometimes of the same ethnic group) and that is going to be our downfall.

Who is spain’s kanu ? Tell me who in spain is threatening his or her country or on video asking for arms to wage war against spain and burn the country down. You people never think

    • Powerlessconscious

The pdp sponsoring bokoharam. APC stopped bokoharam.

    • A.A.Ngalos

      Through the terrorist IPOB?

    • Julius

Igbos should move back to their biafrauds land/territories if you are serious. Stop lying ! Lying and mouth mouth are what brought you to this dilemma now. Get some strategy and get serious.Kanu and his gang will never get you your biafraud

  • Isma’il Aminu Muhammad

As i always said there not going to fight against gov, but their fight Hausa and Muslims. So we need you to know we are not going to fight with whatever you are, we remain nigerian and peacefull people. May Allah Bless Nigeria and Buhari Administration with peace

    • Ughutevbe Roberts

please urgently get an interpreter, I can’t follow up. Probably due to quota system

  • The same treasury looters sponsored Buhari and APC campaigns. And they are 95% of APC membership.

  • Mayo

The chickens have come home to roost. When during GEJ terms, some people alleged that BH was setup to destabilize GEJ’s government because some Northerners were on record saying that they would make the country ungovernable if a Northerner did not take over after Yardua, APC dismissed such comments. Now APC is claiming IPOB was setup to destabilize GMB’s government.

Secondly, what a great irony that Lai Mohammed is telling the press to be circumspect in reporting IPOB matters. When the press was sensationalizing BH issues, where was Lai Mohammed.

It is amazing that Lai Mohammed has no shame at all.

  • Powerlessconscious

Thank you MOI for exposing the propaganda of these IPAD. The end of these arrogant group is overdue. I give my full support to Nigeria military destroy any group that want to set this country ablaze. The treatment of bokoharam should bevthe standard.

  • Arabakpura

Lai Mohammed is a dribbler who has dribbled himself!

    • Julius

So are the other Igbo leaders, governors and mossob ! According to you, they all has dribbled themselves . Abi

  • Net Scrolls

I think PMB ignited the fire of agitations in the country by appointing his northern associates to all key positions. The only way forward is restructuring the country into six geopolitical zones as federating units, and with devolution of powers to them.

    • Julius

So it’s only the Igbos in the country that felt that way ? I think in a way you are also agreeing with the Minister that those that lost out and no longer in the government are funding the agitators .

    • Quantumspirit666

Appointment should not be based on TRIBE. A barbaric and primitive way of governance.

  • Cincinnatus

We already know they are the ones funding the Biafra agenda. Even the weapons smuggled in through the ports and borders are meant for a war they want to start. They want their own country they can plunder at will, especially the oil and other resources. Obasanjo made a mistake pushing Jonathan in for the sake of allowing the east to have a chance to prove they can be good leaders too. But as we know, the country lost all its wealth to Dezani and Patience and their goons and now they want to take what they can and lead the country into a conflict so they can divert us away from the anti-corruption fight. We need to solve this quick before our children are stuck in a war yet again. We need to find the foreign players that are helping them and supplying weapons for their plans and cut it off. Expose them all. Peace is everything needed for progress.

    • Frank Bassey

“We already know they are the ones funding the Biafra agenda.”

      • Sir Louis

        Frank talk. Keep it up.

  • Taylor solomon

This politicians brought themselves to the lowest level of human esteem. Conspire against your country’s peace and stability in order to gain access to what remains for Nigerians. God forbid, if by any chance this so call PDP looters manage to take back Nigeria, trust me it will be disaster, they will do everything in their power to destroy the country. And irony is, there are some that still believe in their message.

    • Frank Bassey

“This politicians brought themselves to the lowest level of human esteem.”

      • Sir Louis

Frank Bassey, well said.Enjoy your day.

  • Julius

Trying to set them straight with the truth and facts is a waste because they do believe in fact…they are a fact based denials. They think we were all born yesterday and never knew what happened. Thanks for trying bro.

    • Mayo

For someone who is accusing another person of not being fact based, you should learn to read and understand before running your fingers. Nowhere in my comment did I say it was an APC member who made such a comment as Kay Soyemi is implying

  • Julius

lolz..here we call what he is smoking ‘good shit’ . Straight from mekiko ! On the other hands biafraudians will do anything for money ! Though he is high like a kite, he has a point there ! lmaoooo.

  • Mayo

You should learn to read before typing a response. I said ‘some Northerners’. I never said it was an APC member that said it (didn’t mention the person’s party). If you read the entire comment, you will see that I’m saying people used that as an excuse for BH but when APC came in to play, APC dismissed such excuses.

Before you go dismissing someone and abusing someone, pause, read and digest.

    • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

      You are waffling, Bruv.

And the only reason you are doing so is because you’ve been wrong footed on facts that you weren’t sure of before writing them down.

Saying “someone”, not mentioning their party et al is just a weak excuse to polish ignorance of the facts.

I have not abused you, but corrected your not so subtle insinuations. If you feel having your watery facts challenged and corrected is an abuse, I cannot apologise for that.

      • Mayo

You are the one who is weak on facts and this is a pattern with you. I’ve had this sort of encounters with you before. Words matter. Not everyone uses terms loosely. How could I have been insinuating it was APC that made the statement when APC was not even formed then?

        • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

If you are convinced, you can go to bed now.

I know who’s got it wrong and it’s not me.

  • VERITAS_ the rock of ages_

read about Jasper Maskelyne. Every NOC learned him. He’s like intel course 101. Thats where it all began. square one.
