The Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung has said that never again will any Nigerian politician win an election in the country by giving money to the electorate.

Mr. Dalung said this while speaking with a local tea maker (Mai Shayi) in Jere Town, on his way to the commissioning of the Olam Feed mill on Tuesday in Kaduna.

In the video Published by PREMIUM TIMES HAUSA, Mr. Dalung speaking in Hausa said: “Buhari’s government is on the right track now and is working towards fulfilling it promises.”

The minister then made a remark that appeared targeted at Nigeria’s former vice president, Atiku Abubakar.

Sipping and enjoying a buttered bread, Mr. Dalung said, “Anybody who thinks he will an election in Nigeria with his money now he should better do a rethink, gone are those days.”

Mr. Abubakar, a billionaire member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, had accused the present administration of abandoning him despite utilising his support to come to power.

The former vice president is believed to have been one of the major financiers of the APC and lost the party’s presidential primaries to Mr. Buhari in the 2015 elections. He is believed to be preparing for the 2019 elections and is seen by many as one of the few who could challenge Mr. Buhari in the elections.

Speaking further on his support for Mr. Buhari, Mr. Dalung, who stayed for over 20 minutes with the locals, said, “If we talk, they will say we are doing so because we are working with him. Even if we are not working with him we will always tell people the truth.

“If Buhari had gotten to power 10 years ago, I swear to you many countries will have been copying from us in terms of development. Only God knows best. Had it been it wasn’t Buhari that is the president of Nigeria now, the country would have been in serious crisis. Things are getting back to normal. The state of the country’s economy is getting over now. This road Abuja to Kano will soon get full rehabilitation.

“On the Issue of farming, we shall have what we will eat. Anybody who cannot eat that should go to where he can get what he wants and eat. If you do not want to eat Nigerian rice you should go back to Thailand.

“For us we will eat what we have here, we will drink Nigerian water, our tailors will sew our clothes and we will wear them.

“Buhari is now healthy. He travelled for Sallah to Daura, he arrived there safely. Some people are saying we are covering up the state of the president’s health.”

Not done, the minister added that “If God says he will continue, we will support him; if he says otherwise we will be by him.”

The minister also had a soft criticism for his colleague, the Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan, who has made it clear she would support Mr. Abubakar in 2019 even if President Buhari seeks re-election.

“And for those who say they will not support him, they should know that Buhari never came out to contest willingly, it was the people that asked for him and always begged him to contest. They even
contributed campaign monies for him.

“Buhari is for the poor so if you come out to say you will not support him, so what? The poor people will decide for Buhari.”

Your bread is being buttered from there, so you cannot say otherwise. What angers me about our politicians is that they assume the authority to think and speak for us. Who told Dalung that the poor people who have further been impoverished will all rush out to vote for Buhari should he decide to run in 2019?. Who also told the minister that money does not play a role in winning elections?. Whoever believes this must be living in a fools paradise.

Anytime T, occasion O, moment M, I ll support Buhari over atiku or any other known elite leeches.

      • Sam

Good to know we still have foresighted Nigerians amongst us . Brilliantly put.

      • Dan

        Very thoughtful and impressive comment.

    • Sir Louis

Well said Bunkaya. As usual, Dalung is suffering from delusion.Cheers.

  • Frank Bassey

I have never reckoned on you as a man worth listening to. It is the likes of Buhari’s cabinet that saw-dust brains like this can find a space. Can you stand Atiku in any way? When serious issues are raised, watery brains opt for the easiest route out — corruption, as if they are still impressing anybody.

  • share Idea

According to this mumu Buhari is for the poor but when he became sick, he decided to seek medical help where the rich patronize without thinking of going to same hospitals visits.

  • Baba Jada

This is wild conjecture and yellow journalism, How do you just conclude that money politics refers to Atiku? Or Atiku supporters follow him for the money. This is truly insulting.

  • Ezomon Ehichioya

PT, where in this report was reference made to Atiku Abubakar, such that you even used it in the headline – that the Minister chides Atiku? Atiku the only rich politician angling to be president in 2019? The only inference that’s correct here relates to Minister Alhassan. Please, don’t misinterpret or over-interpret statements of sources. Thanks and God bless. Ezomon.

    • Sanssouci

I tire… I read this thing twice and couldn’t make a link to atiku talk less of “chiding’….I guess PT must sell newspapers

  • Zirem

If Dalung had something to say to anyone am sure he would have mentioned names, it is only typical for him to speak pro government, whether true or false. But a true journalist wont be insinuating what,s not, this is low even for Premium times.

  • Mr. Abdin

All these names calling and blames games will not help the polity, what Nigeria need now is how to move the country forward.

  • Anonymous

U THIEF and disgraceful element who has a president that shouts corruption but turns blind eye to his loyalists.

    Watch
the recent killings and shootings of IPOB members in Aba-Umuahia road
as Nigerian Army forces them to swim in Mum water before shooting them
in the pool. What a gory sight. Where is Amnesty and Transparency
International? Where is UN? Why is the world silent on this pogrom and
ethnic cleansing? This is genocide in crudest form. Watch it on Youtube
because Premium Times will not report this kind…Video is currently
trending Now. How will Nigerian Army explain this?

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung has said that never again will any Nigerian politician win an election in the country by giving money to the electorate.

Mr. Solomon Dalung is right but money still wins most elections. Also, fake news but in addition to money wins elections! This is because election campaign required lots of money.

Atiku, the master political prostitute and serial defector is like a flea. Flea has no loyalty to its host (man or beast); and given the right opportunity it would jump to another host. Now Atiku’s current host is the APC, but given the number of APC members carrying flea spray cans, I doubt if he will still be in the APC by the end of 2018.

Things are indeed “getting back normal now” for Mr Dalung as he sips and enjoy a “buttered bread”. So he is already bought. He however forgets that there are a lot of people for whom things are getting worse under this present administration and will vote for such a person who they feel can help them have any thing to fill their stomach with not necessarily buttered bread that he is so lucky to get.

    • Al

Bros that’s life, it effected me too. Things has change for good, we need to cope with the reality

  • Ceejay Iloelunachi

When the current govt has succeeded in impoverishing its people the more, Mr Dalung doesn’t even realise they will be more susceptible to be induced with money during elections. What a world of utopia he is currently living in.

  • Daniel

Just take a look at the hypocrites in the picture.

    Nonsense.

We shall find out in 2019.

    • marcos avelino

You are a worst self righteous hypocrite

  • omo56

Money may or may not buy votes in Nigeria but Buhari silence on the killings done by Fulani Herdsmen and his opposition to restructuring will do it

Atiku has come out in favor of restructuring makes Atiku a better candidate than Buhari

    • Pat

Talk is cheap! The same manipulative tactics that kept Nigeria undeveloped.

  • Sir Louis

The Nigerian voter can count themselves lucky if Atiku gives them money because he is a caring man who does not like people to suffer. However, aside money Atiku has so much he has achieved by way of investments that has given people jobs and a livelihood and these would be his major selling points. Given the chance in 2019, unlike Dalung who wishes Nigerians to remain poor so that they would vote for him, Atiku would make many Nigerians rich, employed and self- reliant so that they can confidently contribute to building the economy of Nigeria into a great productive economy in Africa and the world.

  • Rev

One thing is certain, absolutely certain, if Atiku was president, there will be no violence in the South east. There will be little or no agitation for Biafra. For some reason, Buhari represents a school of thought from the past that carries the resentment and bitterness of the past. Everything that has happened in his administration, is not surprising to a thorough student of Nigeria.
In fact, if Atiku stands for election today, Buhari should consider himself a goner!!!

  • Nuorah

The leaders of the riling party should solve their differences on time, if not opposition party will take the advantage. God bless Nigeria.
