EFCC confirms moves to extradite Diezani Alison-Madueke

Diezani-Alison-Madueke1-e1444333146952

The anti-graft agency, EFCC, on Wednesday confirmed that plans were in place to extradite a former petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Several Nigerians have called for her extradition from the UK, after different corruption allegations were levelled against her.

Properties worth billions of Naira linked to her have since been forfeited to the federal government, many permanently.

Speaking on Wednesday while addressing journalists, civic groups and others, the EFCC acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu, confirmed the moves to extradite Mrs. Alison-Madueke.

“I want you to know that nobody will go unpunished. We are even seeking to extradite Diezani, but investigations are still ongoing,” Mr. Magu said.

“We have reached a level where nobody can stop us in the fight against corruption, but we all must realise that we are all stakeholders, and this fight is for the future generation.”

He added that all Nigerians must play their roles, “because EFCC can only do its best; but we must support the agency, and the law should take its course, policies should be strengthened, and punishment must be meted out in good time.”

Mr. Magu also blamed recent separatist agitations in Nigeria on corruption.

“Every evil that is happening now is caused by corruption: agitations, strikes, whatever. Corruption has chased our good human resources out of the country. It is the duty of this generation to correct the evils caused by corruption.”

The anti-graft chief also spoke on corruption among members of his organisation.

“I want you to tell us if there is corruption in the EFCC,” he said. “It makes no sense if people are fighting corruption and they are corrupt. So, tell us, don’t keep quiet.”

  • Ayodeji

Thank you Oga Magu for all your efforts towards the fight against corruption in Nigeria.

  • uche

Pls sir, what is the update on Nahcoaviance PLC fraud case? Up till now, the fraud in that company especially by the board members is massive and nobody seems to be charged to court despite evidence of massive fraud.
Kindly, investigate to save the shareholders fund and peoples job.

  • thusspokez

The anti-graft agency, EFCC, on Wednesday confirmed that plans were in place to extradite a former petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

He is talking nonsense, it is the Nigerian government that can make the request to the UK government — not an organisation or individuals. Besides, Diezani Alison-Madueke now has more than one nationality and extradition can takes years in the UK through the court.

But where was the EFCC when she was perpetrating her criminal activities? And where is the EFCC now, in terms of the corruption being carried by politicians in Nigeria today. Do Nigerians have to wait for a different government and a different EFCC chairperson to find out?

  • Obiayo

I thought a certain media aide to the president said those asking for Diezani’s extradition were ignorant, so, by that same measure, is the head of the anti-graft agency ignorant?

  • niko

Magu, man of the year – again?

  • thusspokez

“I want you to tell us if there is corruption in the EFCC,” he said. “It makes no sense if people are fighting corruption and they are corrupt. So, tell us, don’t keep quiet.”

In Nigeria, every time someone makes an allegation against an institution or corrupt public official, trust the accused to ask the public for evidence.

If Mr Magu does not know how corrupt his officers are, how can any outsider convince him even with mountain of information.

    • Julius

I think he does but, we must also help him to do is job.

  • thusspokez

Readers would note that when Buhari was sworn in, no day went by without reading multiple stories of the EFCC making arrests.

The EFCC PR machine worked overtime to give the impression of an efficient organisation — This, as I said at the time, was an illusion and self-preservation tactics which institutions often used when under pressure and attacks; only to then fall back into its ‘business as usual’ mode when it senses that the pressure on it is off or reduced.

These days, all those daily EFCC Arrest Bulletins has vanished from the front pages as the EFCC returns to its ‘business as usual’ mode. I wonder what happened to all those arrests we heard about in the Buhari’s first year? And how is the Saraki corruption case going?

  • Tommy Soto

Godspeed mighty EFCC and Mr. Chairman. Maybe she will sing on the looting cabal and her collaborators to lessen her sentence once the British government honours Nigeria’s extradition request.

    • Fairplay2000

      @tommysoto:disqus;

Life jail or public execution of Dizeani Allison-Madueke

WELL DONE TO EFCC. The extradition of Dizeani Allison-Msdueke is a task that must be done.
Every means by which she can be nabbed in London and forcibly brought back to Nigeria to
face criminal trials, is urgent and warranted. No other person did as much financial damage
to Nigeria as Dizeani Allison-Madueke who; even if she pleads insanity or kleptomania
as psychiatric disorders must nonetheless be jailed for life or executed at the stakes
for not being sufficiently mad to know how to disguise her loot in properties abroad.

      • Tommy Soto

Wouldn’t you rather see the former fisherman (PhD), and his hotel magnate wife implicated and docked in the scheme? I think the present big guy in Aso Rock granted them immunity to keep peace in the country. All others need a new Kirikiri address.

  • SIT-AT-HOME Order in S-EAST

The useless and cowardly Governors of the South East (Biafra) should bury their miserable heads in shame. Compound Mumus and cowards that is what they are. There is no better way to describe their silence over the invasion of Biafra land by Nigerian Army when no war exists. IPOB are not violent people. Look at Spain with the Catalonian state seeking secession, is that how Spanish authorities treat them? And they are going into a referendum shortly. So was Scotland few years ago. They had a referendum and the British Army did not have to invade Scotland or place any Scottish under house arrest. Why then must Nigeria be different? Because we have a blood sucking demon in charge?
    —..
    DEAR South East Governors,
What you should do to get the Military out is simple. Order a TOTAL sit at home protest by all workers UNTIL the Army leaves the South East with their tanks. If you don’t do that the world will not sympathize with you. Can’t you see that BBC & CNN deliberately refuse to report Buhari’s invasion of Igboland? Why??? Because they do not want progress of the black man. They prefer a warped Nigeria that guarantees their continued Master – Slave relationship and not a vibrant, innovative, dynamic inward looking independent Biafra. Order a Sit-at-home today. Tomorrow may be too late.

    • Julius

Hahahahahaha, so na BBC fault now. Did it ever crossed your mind that the governors might be behind the army being there ? Remember that ipob and kanu are also threatening them as well.

    • Mr.SCOTT

Have you forgotten so soon these statements credited to Nnamdi Kanu…
When we speak, the Zoo trembles, that is what happens when a cattle rearing terrorist and paedophile is your ruler.”

“If you find anybody in your village asking after Radio Biafra kill the baboon Awusa Foolani or Yoruba bastard. Let them keep searching as we keep tweeting for #Biafra.”

“Buhari is a shameless Paedophile and rapist.”

“Buhari is a Terrorist he should be killed.” (In sane countries, he will be in jail for this, that is a direct threat to the President)

“Nigeria is a zoo and everybody living in that Godforsaken zoo deserves to die.”

“Kumuyi should be stoned and dealt with thoroughly if he comes to Aba for his planned crusade.”

“The imbecilic Goodluck Jonathan is a disgrace to humanity and deserves to be skinned alive for handing over to an Hausa goat.”

“By the time we finish dealing with the animals in the zoo, there’ll be none left to tell the story.”

“We are assembling weapons and we need some more money to thoroughly equip our military to enable us unleash mayhem on Nigeria.”

“Niger Deltans are cowards; we know what to do to them. Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Edo and Cross Rivers State are our territory and anybody who tries to oppose us will be crushed.”

“Buhari married his wife after raping her several times, the records are there.”

“No Ibo man should attend any Church where the pastor is a Yoruba man, they are criminals and fools.”

“Nigeria should prepare for war, we are coming to annihilate you, my secret service are already studying the zoo and strategising.”

      “Its either Biafra or death…”

  • Malcom

I do not understand what is really wrong with Nigeria. Arent there bigger thieves like Obasanjo, Abdulsalami (Who stole Army Officers’s salaries in 1972), Babangida etc living in their ill-gotten hill-top Mansions in Niger STate and Ogun State? Has EFCC not learned that Mr Falana (SAN) has told Nigerians that the life Time Salaries and Pensions of these crooks couldn’t be sufficient for them to set up a Primary school, whereas they all have Universities as personal assets? Is EFCC unaware that Abdulsalami did bid for the independent Power supply with Billions of Naira (And he won) during the privatization of Power supply? Where did a retired Army General get Billions of Niara to invest in independent Power Project???

  • Julius

Hahahahahaha, bro, you are on a memory lane. I’m with you !!

  • Oluaja

Magu should stop the extradition process immediately, it will be useless, Why?
The woman will have ultimate freedom that all other looters in Nigeria has at the moment.
The Judiciary will be bought and nobody will hear anything again.
How many small or big looters are currently in jail? NONE.
In UK, she will pay for all her crime, she will go to court and surely jailed.
Please all should remember IBORI saga, no court has the capacity to jail him in Nigeria but was jailed in UK.
Bringing Diezani to Nigeria is to kill all her crime and set her free. Simple. We are not fools.

  • Omooba

EFCC, CALM DOWN LIKE PASTOR SIMEDO, THE VP. LET DEZIANI HAVE HER DAY IN THE BRITISH COURTS WHERE JUSTICE IS GUARANTEED AND NOT FOR SALE. REMEMBER ONE AWOKULEHIN? THERE SHOULD BE NO HURRY ABOUT HER EXTRADITION AS FULL EVIDENCE FROM UK WILL BE MORE THAN ADEQUATE TO NAIL HER IN NIGERIA THEREAFTER. EFCC, ONCE AGAIN, F’ARA BALE. CALM DOWN.

    • share Idea

You can wait eternity if you ever expect UK government to charge Deziani to court based on media trial and persecution from Buhari and EFCC.

In one breadth EFCC claimed to have started process of extradition, and in another one, they claimed to have reached advanced stage in investigating her. The question then, how did EFCC claimed to have discovered several monies and properties linked to Deziani if they are still investigating her. Every drug have it’s Sale By Date, and EFCC and APC propaganda is no longer effective to even the gullible.

      • Julius

Mumu..law enforcement officers do prosecute criminals while investigations are still on-going. UK is prosecuting her because she violated their laws. They are not and won’t prosecute her based onwhat she did in Nigeria.

  • Gary

And there, folks, is today’s briefing on Diezani; brought to you by the illegitimate Chairman of the EFCC.
Nothing more about current probes, indictments or recoveries from the mountains of files of corruption probes carried on for your years by Magu and his corrupt predecessors in office. The entire mission ofthe anti-graft agency is now soley focused on Diezani and how she converted Fulani, sorry Nigerian oil money into toilet paper. Occasionally, Magu and his men will sweeten the tale by “discovering” yet another property by that great Abuja real estate mogul, Patience Jonathan.
Well, since nobody in the media, not even PT will ask, let’s play fake journalist and ask Mr. Magu ourseleves:
    Oga,
How far have you really gone to build the case for the extradition of Allison Diezani?
How about the diversion of the First tranche of the Paris Club Refund money to the states via the Nigerian Governors Forum?
Any update on the files and probes you inherited from Lamorde? And the probe of any of Lamorde and others?
Why then is the anti-corruption probe limited only to the Jonathan era and just a tiny circle of people?
Any hope that the Nigerian people will ever be availed of the FULL LIST of those under probe, indictment and who have refunded money to the Treasury as part of a plea-bargain?
How much latitude or discretion is given to the EFCC or to put it bluntly WHO HAS THE FINAL SAY as to who is indicted or allowed to quietly make refunds without trial? You or your backers in Aso Rock or President Buhari himself?
Is there a remote possibility that you would for the sake of your personal integrity and effectiveness of the agency step aside for someone else who can be confirmed by the Senate to run the EFCC? Or you see yourself as indispensable in the fight against corruption; in which case we might have to make supplications to God that you live to run the EFCC until you turn 100 to kill corruption before corruption kills Nigeria.
Care to tell us about your latest theory linking agitations to Restructure Nigeria and IPOB to corruption?
Is Boko Haram in your Kanuri homeland also motivated by corruption? How about Sharia? What really is your philosophical perspective on corruption? Limited to the stealing of public funds by just one administration of Jonathan and his bumbling Ijaw kinsmen?
So Timipre Sylva now gets to keep his 40 houses in Abuja, proceeds of the stolen wealth of the Bayelsa people while you chase after Patience who never held a government position but built her fortune peddling influence long before OBJ invited her husband to bring the sharing of federal allocation money to Abuja? They were quite rich and happy, just like their Northern and Niger Delta counterparts, sharing monthly allocations to the states before that great political engineer from Otta brought them into the limelight they never asked for? So Oga Magu, will we ever be told about Halliburton, Siemens, PTF and Abacha Loot? Or those ones are ancient history now and we should not let them distract you from Diezani? Okay, how about Turai Yat Adua… in the interest of federal character to probing corruption? Or did she too quietly make refunds and told to go and sin no more?

I admit I’m a fake journalist but if you were to invite me to a press briefing, these are the questions I would have wanted answers from you. Assuming I had the professional and personal integrity to meet obligations to my family to provide a roof over their heads, pay school fees and put food on the table. All without having to depend on the same public officials I’m assigned to cover to meet those obligations.

  • BREAKING_News

Watch the recent killings and shootings of IPOB members in Aba-Umuahia road as Nigerian Army forces them to swim in Mum water before shooting them in the pool. What a gory sight. Where is Amnesty and Transparency International? Where is UN? Why is the world silent on this pogrom and ethnic cleansing? This is genocide in crudest form. Watch it on Youtube because Premium Times will not report this kind…Video is currently trending Now. How will Nigerian Army explain this?

    • Pat

Fake news! As regards to the video, it is a propaganda. However, we have to warn one another. The first attempt of Boko Haram group to lunch themselves out in the North was crushed by the then President, Late Yar’adua by eliminating their leaders. They were silenced until Jonathan became president and left them regrouping till they became the formidable terror group Nigeria is still battling today. Though, I can never support jungle justice, especially by the government, people should always remember that there are two things that can happen to any man that goes to war. Either he is killed in the war front or come back conqueror. People should refuse to continually be used to fulfill other people’s hidden agenda. Waging war against any country security agents is waging war against that country. People should also not forget that Nigerian Military is a product of a corrupt system, nobody should expect them to act in a civilize way in certain occasions. The only fight we should be fighting now is fight of self purging and self re-orientation. This will help us applying right judgement in all that will do including electing the right people into political posts.

    • Julius

I bet you shot the video. Nonsense…I’m surprised you didn’t have kanu laying on the ground with blood running down his face. You think others are fools. You think the UN didn’t know what’s going on and what kanu is doing ? Think again.

  • Chairman

Extraditing of corrupt VIP to face prosecution in Nigeria is in this case, playing in to the hand of those who are waiting in the wings to have a share of the loot. The SANs , court registrars, Judges, Journalists, Rented crowds etc. Corruption is a big INDUSTRY in Nigeria. Let her face justice in the UK,

    • Pat

I wish she could! She can never be convicted for corruption in Nigeria with Saraki as Senate President, the present Anthony General is still in office and the present days judges are still on bench. We should remember how Ibori was acquitted in Nigeria Court and see how he is being celebrated in Nigeria even after serving jail terms in London. However, UK cannot play Nigeria role for Nigeria. They can only try her for breaking their laws.

  • Dr Pat Kolawole Awosan

The greatest advance looter, thief and embezzler, of our national commonwealth,Diezani Alison Madueke, is currently under house arrest in London,UK. facing bribery and money-laundering charges in a old-Baily court,London,UK.. Diezani Alison Madueke, will be convicted of bribery and money-laundering crimes and sentenced into possibly twenty years or more penalty which she would be made to spend in a UK.s penitentiary, not Nigerian prison and after completing sentence she may be deported to Nigeria, at the end. But, for now while being prosecuted by National crime Agency,EFCC can not succeed in getting Diezani Alison Madueke, extradited to Nigeria.

  • Gbola

    NOOOoooo oooooo !!

    .

    Abeg don’t bring her here.
Once extradited and she’s charged to court, prosecution takes an awful long time.
Hence she would seek bail which she most probably would get. Then she becomes free to manipulate judges from the outside.
Anybody who thinks even Jonathan wouldn’t come to her rescue is daydreaming.

Thats where the case would end.

    • shola

What and where is justice in Nigeria? Ex-convict and former governor James Ibori was discharged and acquitted in Nigeria . Under the same accusations he was convicted in the UK. After serving his jail term this ex-convict was celebrated as a „Hero“ in his Nigeria. Mrs.
Madueke would be so glad to be extradicted back home to dance to her success, and smell the Nigeria air of freedom. This woman will never be convicted in Nigeria – the fantastically corrupt nation on earth.

That is jungle justice and should never happen!, NEVER!

As disgusting as this Commander in Thief is, she didnt steal as Much as Abdulsalam Abubakar, IBB, OBJ, Dasuki and others. If we dont change our laws and make corruption a Capital Offence we are just paying lip service to corruption. You dont give someone suffering malaria ice water to drink, you give them malaria medicine. Corruption is the worst sickness in Nigeria today, anything other thsn executing the perpetrators is like giving panadol to an Aids sufferer. Give the right punishment for the corresponding crime. We are not even serious about battling corruption yet. Execute all looters. Let us come together with one voice and finish every corrupt person starting with Dizeani
