Police confirm 19 killed in fresh Plateau attack by suspected herdsmen

The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed 19 persons killed and five others injured in an attack on Ancha village, Bassa Local Government, on Friday.

The police commissioner, Peter Ogunyanwo, who briefed journalists on Friday in Jos, said that preliminary investigation had indicated that the attack was carried out by Fulani gunmen.

“We are investigating the matter, but from our findings so far, the attack was carried out by Fulani herdsmen to avenge the killing of a young boy.

“We have been told that a Fulani boy resident in the village was reported missing on August 3. We are told that his body was later found without the head,” he said.

According to Mr. Ogunyanwo, the attackers invaded the village in the early hours of Friday and unleashed mayhem on innocent citizens, killing 19 persons and injuring five others.

“Of the 19 persons that died, 13 are adults comprising seven males and six females, while six are children.

“The five persons injured have been taken to the hospital and are responding to treatment,” he said.

He said that the attack was believed to be a reprisal because it came three days after the body of the missing Fulani boy was found.

The commissioner said that five suspects were arrested over the missing Fulani boy, but that no arrest had been made in respect of the Friday morning attack.

He said that security personnel had been deployed to the area to forestall another reprisal attack, and cautioned the people against taking the law into their hands.

A resident of the village had earlier told PREMIUM TIMES about the attack.

“We are suspecting Fulanis to have carried out the attack on our village (Ancha) because about a month ago, Fulanis living within this location accused our village (Ancha) of killing and beheading a Fulani boy,” Benjamin Aruku said in a telephone interview.

“They invited police, some persons were arrested in connection with the killing of the said Fulani boy. We thought the issue was over but we were taken by surprise last night with this attack,” he said.

Trust what do you expect their mentor and head Jihadist is back on seat. Cant people see that there was some level of calm when the Bubu was away on the 104 days trip.

The commissioner said that five suspects were arrested over the missing Fulani boy, but that no arrest had been made in respect of the Friday morning attack.

How come no herdsman was arrested?

    • FreeNigeria

You must be new in Buhari Nigeria, the herdsmen are ABOVE the law. They are untouchable. Their one cow is more important than 1000 Nigerian lives. Welcome to Buhari Nigeria where cows and herdsmen rule.

  • FreeNigeria

19 killed, no arrest. 1 killed, 5 arrested. Somebody better shout or clean Buhari deaf ears, implant some cells on his dead brain. because this type of injustice will set Nigeria on Fire. These herdsmen above the law mentality will not do anyone any good.

investigation had indicated that the attack was carried out by Fulani gunmen. And the killers of the fulani boy have been arrested , and yet no fulani man arrested after the killing of 19 innocent people.
You see why Nigeria has become a fulani enclave. All of a sudden buhari is back and his brother start killing and yet the animal says nothing but that Nigeria’s unity is non negotiable.

Animals and parasites from the north are just busy carrying out genocide and stealth JIHAD , yet the animal in charge says or do nothing.

All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others – G .O

If it’s their Fulani neighbors that unleashed murderous mayhem on the village, even though the police arrested people suspected to be responsible for the murder of a Fulani boy, then the herdsmen took the laws into their own hands. The perpetrators must be arrested and dealt with to the fullest extent of the law. By that, I mean all of them should be arrested for terrorizing the village and sentenced to death. Without such tough action, the headsmen will always take the laws into their own hands.

As usual nothing will happen because the Fulani are the killers, it may have “security implications” to arrest them

    Not surprise. Buhari is back.

  • Dr Pat Kolawole Awosan

Nigeria national assembly must summon the inspector general of the police and the director-general of the DSS. in order to question them about the lax-security existing all over Nigeria, whereby headsmen that rear their cows have been attacking and killing innocent Nigerians, either in the South-East,South-South or South-West regions, and even in some parts of Northern regions.
IGP. of police must demonstrate his capability and competency to secure security of lives and properties of Nigerians. Or else the IGP. must be sacked and replaced with new IGP. who would be able to handle and guarantee security of lives and properties for all Nigerians, anywhere in Nigeria.Herdsmen must be restricted rearing of cows just in any state, and attacking people or farmers whose farms have been destroyed by herdsmen with their cows.Enough is enough!

The biggest issue is the statement of the commissioner of Police that made it clear that no effort to arrest the Fulani terrorist herdsmen that killed 19 innocent Nigerian.
Why is this acceptable you may ask. Nigerian had accepted the fact that President Buhari has unleashed Fulani’s terrorist herdsmen and released Boko Haram on Nigerian,

  • Victor George

When will i hear police kill 20 Fulani herdsmen, instead naija police always confirm killing of innocent and helpless Nigerian, its very bad.

  • General Sam Bockerie

Useless coward Plateau people. They are always taken unawares. When will we read news that 20 herdsmen have been neutralized? When are you going to arm and defend yourselves and prevent being killed like ants? Inspite the carnage you still voted APC……please enjoy your change.

  • Mizch

Why are they “suspected herdsmen?” Did they disappear with their cows?

  • Ado Abdul

This act must be condemned by well meaning citizens.Yes it is sad to loss one of your own, taking vengeance on the whole community is wrong as there is no evidence linking every one to the beheading of the young boy staying there.

You guys seems to like what this Idiots are doing to you and you all sat back and watch right?…You better pick up arms and repel them wherever you see any so called herds men within and around your boarders, Period. Beleive me this will stop and your President will then know how to react. #attack#bestdefence#
