Osinbajo summons Nigeria police chief over kidnap of German archaeologists

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday summoned the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, over the kidnap of two German archaeologists, Peter Breunig and Johannes Behringer, in Kadarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

A source told the News Agency of Nigeria that the police chief briefed the Acting President on efforts so far made by police to rescue the victims unhurt and apprehend the kidnappers.

PREMIUM TIMES reported how the Germans were kidnapped and how two Nigerians who tried to rescue them were killed in the process.

Usman Kagarko, a witness who joined many others in going after the assailants, said their effort ended when the kidnappers turned back and opened fire.

“We had to scamper for our safety when they opened fire, shooting sporadically at us, killing two local hunters who were in our lead as we chased them on our motorcycles and on foot,” ,” he told PREMIUM TIMES. “If only we are armed or in company of armed security, we would have stopped them because they are on foot.”

He gave the names of the two victims as Anas Ibrahim and Adamu Abdulrahim.

He said many locals were familiar with the Germans who for many years frequently travelled from Abuja to Kaduna for their work.

“So we felt personally concerned that this very friendly foreigners are innocently abducted by criminals under our nose,” he said.

The police have since dispatched a team of special forces and to work in synergy with the police command in Kaduna State and indigenes of towns and surrounding villages where the archaeologists were kidnapped.

The special force deployed comprise the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), the Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU), the Anti Kidnapping Unit, the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), the Police Mobile Force and Police Surveillance Helicopters.

The Special Investigation Team on Kidnapping and Terrorism Cases under the Command of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Department of Operations, is also participating in the rescue operation.

The kidnapped archaeologists, working in collaboration with National Commission for Museum and Monument on the relics of NOK Culture in Nigeria, were kidnapped on Wednesday morning at an excavation site in Kadarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

    DEAR SIR,

    Letter to all honest Nigerians

My uncle was kidnapped last year nobody summoned anybody to help.
I am not a German citizen. I am a full-blown Nigeria. So, what are we saying?

The other day I saw Sanusi Lamido Sanusi – the Emir of Kwankwanso, oh, sorry,

Emir of Kano – rushing to the presidential villa two weeks ago, I suspected that

Muhamadu Buhari is not coming back. Sanusi Lamido could not tell journalists

what he came to beg Acting Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. The issue now is:
Acting president should tell us what was discussed. We can never agree that
any Emir should carry go 1.4 trillion Naira. Better to break up Nigeria then.

    A lot of people
concluded that Sanusi Lamido must therefore have come to the presidential villa
in his own self-interest. Some other people said Sanusi Lamido feared that
without Muhamadu Buhari who was helping him in the last 20 months to sweep the
case under the carpet, his pending case of 1.4 trillion Naira missing at the
Central Bank under his tenure might be brought to court as a criminal case of
    theft.

The federal government audit shows that the missing money passed through
his hands. If that is the case, Sanusi Lamido is not getting good legal advice.
Theft or crime cannot be negotiated. Theft or crime has no time-limit for
prosecution. No statute of limitations. It can be brought to court and
prosecuted at any time. It is naive to expect that Acting President Yemi
Osinbajo will intentionally overlook the case and end up disgracing himself,
like Muhamadu Buhari. For what? To achieve what? Is Osinbajo a Hausa man?

    • straight-to-the-point

NIGERIA will be a better place if Muhamadu Buhari is repealed and replaced.

      ….more than he’s gaining it…..and now…after 20 months…..he has negatives ……

…huge suspicion… that he’s another Fulani Islamist hegemonist and northern tribalist……
……….but, that’s a smelly body odour to carry around…….if it also includes…… as it does…..
…….jumping the window of parliament to forge appropriation bills…….. and merely winking….
…at the genocide of 300+ Shiite Muslims, and, winking at the murders committed daily……..
………………….by the rifle-bearing mad and maddening Fulani herdsmen……………

        @Vextra:

Muhamadu Buhari is the worst president Nigeria has ever had; the least educated, the most dishonest,
the most crooked, the worst mentally lazy, the most bereft, the most denuded of thought-process, and,
the most inarticulate stammering Islamist bigot ever to enter the presidential villa flying Fulani tribe flag.

        • We dey hear

“Nigeria’s inflation has risen to 18.55 per cent, its highest in more than 11 years,
according to the latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). all major
food sub-indexes increased, with soft drinks recording the slowest pace of
increase at 7.66 percent (year on year). Added to this, communication,
restaurants and hotels recorded the slowest pace of growth in December,
growing at 5.33 per cent and 8.91 per cent (year-on-year) respectively.

The Nigerian crisis has even long spread to global airlines.
In the latest illustration of the economic crisis engulfing Nigeria under Buhari,
United Airlines had discontinued daily flights between Lagos, the commercial
capital, and Houston in the US whilst Iberia, the Spanish airliner, cancelled all
four of its weekly flights to Nigeria last May.”

      “Buhari is not coming back.
Buhari may not be dead, but he might as well be – too sick to rule, too greedy
to leave. How can he have a broken body and a distracted mind and retain the
strength and focus to lead Nigeria out of social, political, and economic turmoil?
I speculate Buhari is suffering from either a kidney failure or pancreatic cancer,
but even if Buhari comes back home, we all know his policies of the last two

    Premium Times Editor,

One Million Naira is now equal to $1,860 U.S dollars

A millionaire in Nigeria today actually has less than the monthly salary of a
street cleaner in France. That’s how bad Nigeria’s fallen because Nigerians
(including university graduates amongst them) discounted the olden wisdom that
knowledge is power. Inflation has hit 18.7% on the back of Buhari’s 62%
devaluation of the national currency in Nigeria.

One million Naira in Nigeria is now worth 1,860 U.S dollars at street
exchange rate in Lagos, today. The Muhamadu Buhari who wrought this untold
hardship and mass poverty on Nigerians has been absent from work for weeks, and
has indicated he will be on indefinite (sick) leave abroad, but without
disclosing his ailment, meaning that Nigeria is now driftless without any
purpose or direction. In short, this Muhamadu Buhari has no sense of
    responsibility whatsoever.

President Muhamadu Buhari is too crude, local and nigh-illiterate to
have a concept of Nigeria that he was elected to administer and develop. He’d
refused for several weeks to speak just for a few seconds to all Nigerians as a
whole. But Buhari was at his usual nepotistic best and in animal spirits when
told that Muslim Imaams in his Fulani regional Kano state were organizing
Islamic prayers for him. He put a phone call through to those ones in the name
of his Islamist ideology whilst ignoring the millions of Christians in half the
country who now regret voting for such a crude Islamist bigot.

The government prosecution counsel told the tribunal that as a governor, Saraki, in 2008, transferred
the sum of $73, 223. 28 to a bank account he operated outside Nigeria. Saraki allegedly failed in his
second tenure as Kwara State governor to declare his interest in an American Express Bank, New York

      • Cry Nigeria!!!!

        @Bulus,

Kidnapping and stealing are two sides of the same coin. Bukola Saraki can never be wealthy even if he steals every day. A thief is a poor man carrying the burden of cash as paper in bad odour without any chance of atonement because theft and wealth cannot stand side by side since wealth inspires others
on a diligence pathway with respect, whilst theft perverts others to take to brigandage and plunder,
without those perverts themselves having any slender respect for the thief who perverted them.

Some people are saying Bukola Saraki is a kleptomaniac in need of psychiatric treatment because he seems to them to be addicted to stealing so much so that it is suggested he was born to steal. I am not
trained in mental disorder. I cannot confirm or deny that possibility. All I can say is that his behaviour is abnormal. It is like the behaviour of a street urchin who has no home training.Indeed, Bukola Saraki doesn’t know the meaning of wealth.

He is too local and too primitive that he thinks wealth is cash. What a poor soul. Wealth instead means something entirely different. Wealth is not public office either. Wealth means a sterling reputation without stain for a commanding voice in the affairs of men. Wealth is what Nelson Mandela had without raiding
the treasury to buy 200 million shares at Transcorp. Theft cancels wealth. How I wish Bukola Saraki
and his wife, Toyin Ojora-Saraki, had the home training to know this truth.

        • David O.

@Bulus: My last houseboy, Akpan, was exactly like Bukola Saraki
          – always stealing. I took him to Pentecostal church, did deliverance and
everything including advice. He was still stealing. I was forced to hand him
over to Police. Akpan was jailed for seven years. When he came out of prison he
became a changed man. His face was swollen from the beatings he got from the
inmates. His front teeth were gone. He is now working for a small poultry farmer
in my area. He has not stolen a single egg since he started working there.

Let Bukola Saraki also go through prison
like every common criminal. Let the inmates sodomize him from the anus.
Seize his assets found stolen. Ban him from public office for ten years, like
James Ibori who’s now banned for ten years. That’s the only way to save Bukola
Saraki from the spirit of theft. In a law-governed country someone likeBukola
Saraki will be tied to the stakes and shot dead by a firing squad. But Nigeria
is a lawless country. Why do you waste your time using big English to fight a
thief? Why? You are to grab a thief and slap him all around. Common thieves are
doused in petrol and burnt. Nigeria is smelling because of someone like Bukola
          Saraki. Thieves smell.

        • Senator D

100% Correct. A thief can never be rich… That is why they (Nigerian Politicians) fight tooth-and-nail to perpetuate themselves in power… Adolphus Wabara is now broke. Anyim Pius Ayim was almost begging before Jonathan saved him buy appointing him SFG… Same goes for the former House of Reps members and Senators too… These politicians are poor in mind and thought so can’t create wealth….

He should have summoned Jonathan, Obasanjo and Yar Adua. Bunch of nicompoops who took over rein of leadership and have no capacity to lead. twenty one months after, every Nigerian is turning to kidnapping to survive.
Last week, a family friend and about three other neighbours were kidnapped in Delta state and ransome collected.
When Olagunsoye Oyinlola lead Lagos, there were assassinations, armed robberies (Shina Rambo and co), horrible roads and all manner of vices. What we heard then was the inability of the government to sstem the tide. Of course Bitumen had finished on earth to fix the roads, so when robbers struck on the roads, people gut stuck.
But it took Buba Marwa, the one Bokohari illegally paid N1 billion, not different from how Malabu money wa paid to fix Lagos and he got accolades.
But today, the failures in todays leadership have turned t the past to excuse their lack lustre performances.
We have heard since this week how Osinbade’s leadership and body language has chnged Nigeria within three weeks of acting. The same way they talked about Buhari generating electricity with body language when he came in, today Nigeria has been in darkness, while Osibande is busy inspecting toilets.
The sign of another misplaced sense of leadership.
