SSS operatives seal private Nigerian TV, CoreTV

SSS operatives

Security peratives believed to be from the State Security Service on Friday broke into the Abuja office of CoreTV, a cable and satelite broadcaster, carting away broadcasting and other related equipment.

Olajide Adediran, the CoreTV managing director, told PREMIUM TIMES the operatives also shut down the station and barricaded the area during the operation around 4:00 a.m. Friday, even though the media house had no history with the secret police.

“They have never formally notified us of any wrongdoing,” Mr. Adediran told PREMIUM TIMES by telephone. “This takes us entirely by surprise.”

Mr. Adeniran said he arrived the office, at 34, Sokode Crescent, Zone 5, Wuse, on Friday morning with his staff, but quickly realised that their access into the area had been denied.

“The entire stretch of the street has been barricaded,” Mr. Adediran said.

He said there are signs pasted on the walls of about four buildings in the area that they have been sealed by a court order.

“But even if there’s a court order, why should it be in the middle of the night that they will enforce it and why should they carry our systems and files?” He said.

Equipment that the operatives carted away included office computers, digital cameras, documents amongst other properties of the station.

PREMIUM TIMES could not independently confirm that SSS was responsible for the assault on CoreTV, and the agency’s refusal to appoint a spokesperson running close to two years did little to help all efforts to get clarification.

  • RAPE on The Niger DELTA

    Dear AVENGERS,
There is massive poverty in the Niger Delta. There is nothing to show for the wealth of the region as monies from the region are used to develop Abuja and the rest of the country. The only benefit the oil producing and resource owners – Biafra and Niger Delta regions benefit from Nigeria are :

    – Pollution
    – Neglect
    – Violence
    – Military Occupation
    – Wanton arrest of its citizens
    – Harassment
    – Sponsored propaganda to defame
    – Bypass in political appointments
    – Hate, hate and more hate
    – Etc etc, etc

…yet, those that feast on the resources of the Niger Delta want it to remain part of Nigeria even as they care not about the many artificial problems that oil exploration has brought to the people –Health issues / Diseases arising from toxic pollutants. Buhari never borrowed to clean up the Niger Delta or rehabilitate the displaced farmers and fishermen. But he borrows to resettle those reportedly displaced by Islamic terrorists – a people (Terrorists) he claims must not be killed. Massive Rail, Road and even Airport Projects are going on in the North and West of Nigeria but nothing except military occupation in the Niger Delta and Biafra

SECESSION is the only way for the Niger Delta and Biafran regions if they must achieve their potentials. Dear freedom fighting AVENGERS et al, we look forward to Operation Hurricane Joshua and Jericho Wall.

Ibos think lying is a sign of cleverness. they are sick of aggressive lack of education, fanatic belief and imperial megalomania.
Igbos like to live in scrap, they are not interested to invest in infrastructure, farms, fabrication, science. To say it clear, they don’t like to work, they like palaver, fighting destroying all the time, they are full of aggression. Go to any small village, you see at least 4 Churches and 5 groups (mainly youths) fighting each other, that’s Igboland, and don’t tell me that’s not true. Despite the other idiotic things these illiterates are doing, like kidnapping, ritual killing, raping, child-witch hunt, cultism and others crimes.
Sorry to say it, but if Igbos want change, they have to start by themselves. I do not say this with hate but truth is always bitter.

Poor you. I will recommend the history of Sudan and Southern Sudan for you.
The Christian South were fooled into secession and they have never known peace for a day ever since. In spite of their flowing oil, they ended up as mere sacrificial pawn of international govt and corporations that supplied them endless arsenal of weapons. Forgive my subjective interpretation of that story….but I’m sure you don’t have the balls for war.

Decrees 2 & 4 of 1984 in operation. Change comes in different ways. This is what Tinubu & Co promised. Live with it.

  • Lanre

If SSS or DSS raid Boko haram suspects and sponsors like this there will be no suicide bombers or Islamic terrorists

    • OJERINDE, Olatunde A.

I like your comment/perspective but let’s probe a bit further.
…. Sponsors of terror are never designated as ‘sponsors of terror’. There has to be a shield. And i tell you bro, the best shield is a media outlet. Imagine a news media in conspiracy with a terror group or any other anti-society entity, be it militant or any other separatist rebel… attempt by the government will automatically be seen as an attack on press freedom. And in the name of free press and news gathering, a lot of things can happen. Not saying Cable TV is anything of sort, but the perspective you introduced made me write this. There are some institutions that the govt are not wont to offend because attack on them brings heavy backlash. However, we must be calm to react… inconclusive news.

      • Rumournaire

I respect your maturity. Nigerians read a piece of inconclusive news and immediately jump into commendations and condemnations. Just imagine the garbage responses to this news item – people just writing impulsively.

        • Sean

          ✌ God bless

      • VERITAS_ the rock of ages_

There is that too. You are spot on. that is why the DSS should have a spokes person to inform the public on reasons for their actions. But this Daura DSS seems to be gross violators of the constitution. If you cant question them about their motives for the raid we are in a limbo..

        • Rumournaire

Intelligence organisations worldwide do not announce to the world the reason for their action at the very time they are carrying out a sting operation. Such announcement could undermine their investigation. So, before we start to castigate agents, let’s be patient. The inconclusive news says four houses were sealed up on that street. We don’t know why.

          • VERITAS_ the rock of ages_

Shame on premium times. They cant tell the difference between people wearing Blue top and black pants Uniforms. and the word POLICE mentioned or written anywhere on any of the men block the area and if they were clever and observant enough they would know the DSS dont use HILUX Pick up trucks. They have lost 50% more trust from me. they are low in my ratings now

  • VERITAS_ the rock of ages_

Well Daura keeps forgetting Buhari wont be president forever. All those in DSS who committed atrocities like this will stand trial after Buhari goes. The DSS will face many court cases. Time is the equalizer of injustice.

    • Uncle Bee

Can the confusion in Lagos and in Nigeria be policed?

The real issue is the purpose of policing. Nigeria is in utter chaos and confusion today. Can policing help?
Maybe somewhat but no police corps can arrest a society that’s now drifted off into absolute lawlessness.
We’re not told what this television station broadcast, but we can guess it was viewed as lawless by Police.
President Muhamadu Buhari’s government underrates a rot it has contributed to creating in Nigeria today.
Nigeria is in total lawless mode; folks are beheaded on side-walk; rape is routine at any hour, murder is rife.

Lagos state exemplifies that rot as armed Police patrol teams transverse Lagos to police a breakdown.
I doubt if Police anywhere in the world can police an epidemic of crimes and thefts occurring everywhere.
The Police in Lagos is patrolling to control the effects of the total misrule of Bola Tinubu and Raji Fashola.
Since 1999 neither Tinubu nor Fashola set up good schools to train Lagos youths who now take to crime.
Gunfire routinely shatter the peace of the night in Lagos nowadays, as the youths burgle and rob to live.

      • Eko ti baje ju

Thank you jare! Lagosians are in soup.
Were they not waving brooms before? They will see pepper. I am told youths
scale fences to enter people’s homes on Lagos Island every night nowadays.
Time to pay the wages of sin has come for Lagos. They did not protest for 16
years as Bola Tinubu and Raji Fashola pocketed state money, stole government
lands, and gave Lagosians nonsense rhetoric instead of public services. Without
schools no society can survive, no bloodiness can be avoided, ultimately. Lagos
has arrived at the point when it must pay for that sin. Bola Tinubu was the most
clueless governor Nigeria’s ever had but naïve Lagosians clapped for him for
fighting President Obasanjo as if the purpose for electing a governor is to
        fight the president in Abuja.

The result of that tomfoolery is ruinous.
Raji Fashola on his part was busy looting, nothing else, just looting.
He disguised his theft by pouring asphalt on existing roads. How could that
solve poverty or give Lagosians the needed skills to earn income without a
single good public school in Lagos till today? The effects of those years of
looting, ignorance and stupidity, have now kicked in to make the successor
governor, Akin Ambode, a total waste of space. Akin Ambode appointed mostly
incompetent drunkards into office. The result is doldrums. Lagos government
under Akin Ambode now has no sense or gumption on how to take and dispose
garbage. The waste disposal companies have just filed a lawsuit against Akin
Ambode’s incompetence, after they got into public fist-fights with the senseless
management of Lagos state waste management (Lawma) which Akin Ambode
        put in place.

      • VERITAS_ the rock of ages_

True. Well thats what they get for selling everyone a lie that goes “For your Business to be successful you must set up at Lagos, to break away from poverty you must move to Lagos to hustle, centre for excellence blah blah”. people have told me for my weapons and tech business to be successful we must set up at Lagos. i say that is utter nonsense. when they sell people such false hopes they inevitably are selling the same false success story to criminals and then many people move over to lagos and criminals move over with them too. the higher the population the higher the ratio of criminals. London has a population of about 8 million, new York same, Berlin same. Lagos has over 20 million people. almost totalling New York, London and Berlin together, But it has the lowest budget and makes the lowest IGR.

    • thusspokez

All those in DSS who committed atrocities like this will stand trial after Buhari goes.

Quite right! The next government must prosecute these rogue operatives and their commanders. It is the only way to break the circle of abuse of power by Nigerian’s law enforcement agencies.

I encourage all victims of the SSS to gather evidence (e.g., name of operatives, nature of abuse of human rights, damages to properties, etc.), including photos and lock them away. These evidence will be very useful when the time comes to prosecute these thuggish SSS operatives.

      • VERITAS_ the rock of ages_

exactly. Nice one bro. When i become president i will put all of them on trial for treason and violation of their civic duty as inscribed in the constitution. They were employed by the SSS which was set up by the constitution which set up their agency. They are not meant to follow orders from high up that is in gross violation of the constitution. The FBI boss cannot order FBI agents to go raid somewhere in an unconstitutional manner because his workers would say “Oga this is against the constitution that set us up, so we are not going”. We must punish and jail Operatives and their bosses who have committed violations of the law so every security agent would hence forth not obey unconstitutional orders.

        • thusspokez

Nigerian government ministries and institutions don’t seem to have constitutional or ethical lawyers advising them. Or maybe they are mediocre and not listened to by the heads.

These lawyers would normally be consulted and guide the policies and activities of their ministry or institution to make sure that it operates within the law — failure of which can often be very expensive, e.g., law suits and fines, compensations and even jail sentence for employees. 56 years old and Nigeria is still taking baby-steps.

          • VERITAS_ the rock of ages_

            Absolutely spot on bro..

          • Gary

They know what to do but have become accustomed to tyranny. The Ministry of Justice, at state and federal level, should have a lawyer attached to every MDA to provide legal advisories onpolicies and programs before implementation. At the risk of jail. Ditto for the Attorney-General and his role with the President. Since these legal officers will not risk their freedom and law license, they will be diligent or blow the whistle when political actors plan or act to break the laws of the republic.

Do that and we break the backbone of corruption and malfeasance in government. If I know this, so do the likes of Itse Sagay and their never-ending anti-corruption Miliki Cimmittee and the goons now running the security agencies.

They know what to do but doing so willcheck their own powers to abuse the system for their own personal and political benefit. As they say, everyone wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die.

  • Isiagwo

The Nigerian media operators have been co-conspirators in Terrorist Bokohari’s attack on his political opponents and the impoverishment of Nigerians. Let the media have a taste of the Bokohari tyranny medicine.

    1. boko karam frequent ‘attacks-and-run’ in areas liberated by the Nigerian army because of lack of security present.
    2. Illegal immigrant herdsmen openly carrying guns with which to kill Nigerians.
    3. Southern Kaduna killings.
    4. Shiite massacre.
    5. Militancy in the south

These are the very important internal security issues for which the SSS had been created, instead the SSS has rewritten its own mandate and watered it down to mere police duties to reflect its cowardice — mandate, which it only seems to execute before dawn.

How can any person get through to you when you are not capable of understanding intelligent argument.

Each of these Nigerian institution is created to do a specific job. If they are not doing the job for which they were create to perform, but doing the job of another institution, who then would be doing their job?

Let me further make it simpler for you — cross fingers and hope that you get it this time:

Let’s say that you employ a chef and a chauffeur. Now, instead of the chef doing the cooking, he takes over the role of the chauffeur and drives the family. Now you all come home from work to no cooked meals, because the chef, whom you employed to prepare the meals, had decided to be your chauffeur. Any yet people like you don’t see anything wrong with this?

Even in U S we have witnessed FBI and CIA operatives carrying out operations on media, Banks and Residents with threats to the Nation.

Visit the FBI and CIA websites and overcome your ignorance. Don’t be an ultracrepidarian.

CIA has nothing to do with American defense. It deals with espionage, mostly corporate and a bit that is of little value to the American citizens.

If it is of benefit to government to attack it own people with traces leading back to government, that is what CIA specializes in. Coups in foreign countries inluding Nigeria, 9/11, UK train bombing, e.t.c.
