Gov. Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State on Monday sent congratulatory message to the state’s Governor-elect, Rotimi Akeredolu.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Eni Akinsola, made available in Akure, Mr. Mimiko said “it behoves on me as Governor of Ondo State to congratulate the Governor-elect, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) and wish him success in the challenging task of governing our dear state.”

The Ondo State governor added that “it is incumbent upon me as Governor to facilitate smooth transition between my government and the incoming one. I will, to this end, provide the ambience for a smooth and seamless transition process.”

Mr. Mimiko’s congratulations came hours after his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, rejected the results of Saturday’s election.

The party accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of rigging the election in favour of Mr. Akeredolu, and vowed to challenge it in court.

While promising to continue to provide leadership to the state until the takeover date, Mr. Mimiko expressed appreciation to the people of the state.

He added that “I use this medium to express my sincere appreciation to all our citizens for the very peaceful manner in which they conducted themselves throughout the election period.

“I will not waiver in providing needed leadership to our dear state till the last day of my term.”

He then urged residents to strive to sustain the peace enjoyed in the state for the past seven years and promised to speak with the people as occasion demands “as my eight-year tenure inches to an end.”

I will not be surprised if he dumps PDP for APC to escape from the fangs of EFCC.

In otherwise he has to be ‘born again’ (switch to APC) to receive total forgiveness of his sins. LOL.

Mimiko had no other choice then to concede defeat. Before the election, help was saying Ondo would burn if INEC doesnt postone the election and that as the chief security officer of the state he cant guarantee the safety of life and properties.

Interestingly, this is the most violence free election held so far this year, not even a single protest like we saw in Edo. It just showed that the people didn’t want Mimiko again and they protest before the election was a paid protest. Akeredolu winning by alomst 100,000 votes says a lot about how the peole of Ondo felt.

But all the same its always more civilized to concede and congratulate the winner

Am not from Ondo but I would beseech that every sins of Gov. Mimiko should be forgiven for this singular act of acknowledging the TRUTH and burying his pride to congratulates the governor elect. he has shamed those who drummed for war in Ondo. He’s not a PDP bread but a child of circumstance in the family of thieves. He’s intelligent
