A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Olisa Metuh, on the condition that he pays N400 million as bond.

Mr. Metuh is to also submit his international passport, and must provide two sureties with N200 million each. The sureties must have properties in Maitama district of Abuja.

The PDP spokesperson was taken to court on Tuesday in handcuffs.

He is accused of receiving N400 million from an arms money diverted by the office of the National Security Adviser.

Mr. Metuh has been in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for about two weeks.

EFCC will soon rearrest him for another offence

    • bib

And he has many including disgracing goats by eating paper instead of yams!

      • Bidemi Lukman

Eating paper is another big offence. Am not sure it is bailable. Lol

    • New Nigerian

Thanks for the headsup – all crimes must be prosecuted. If he is involved in other crimes, it is his right to be arrested

  • Gugurus Ekpa

Jesus is King. President Buhari is the greatest . LOL. Olisa Metuh must vomit that N400 million one way or another.

  • Wale

No need for him to post this bond; because he would be rearrested for obstruction of justice.
Goat wey finish eating yam go eat paper.

    • Fadama

      Lol

  • Olisa

Buhari is no respecter of courts. This bail means nothing. Ask Dasuki and Kanu.

    • Burbank

Courts are no respecters of laws.

  • Say the truth

Haba. Wetin. That is ridiculous. A mockery of the judiciary. It is obvious that APC is getting personal with Metuh. I don’t care what anybody has to say this is the most unreasonable and ridiculous condition any judge can give an accused. He is to deposit a total sum in all of 800 million for an alleged offense of 400 million. The judge should disqualify himself from this case for being bias and tainted. There is no way Metuh can get any fair hearing if the case started this way. That judge is being influenced from outside pure and simple.

    • Gugurus Ekpa

Show me in the law books where they say this cannot be done since you all claim rule of law?

      • Jon Rhoma

The law says bail with harsh conditions is no bail. Bails are usually granted at the discretion of Judges but at the most liberal terms. This Judge is a coward. He didn’t want to grant him bail but was afraid to say so.

        • Gugurus Ekpa

Jon, really? Which law book were you reading——Law of Mars and Venus?

          • Burbank

            LOLz…gbam

            “Bail For Dummies”?

          • Jon Rhoma

Are you a lawyer? Bury your head in shame if you’re for asking that question.

          • Gugurus Ekpa

Bury what head in shame? Do you have a head that needs to be buried or are you struggling to make sense of the world you now find your self?

          • Burbank

            Are you?

        • Burbank

“Bails are usually granted at the discretion of Judges but at the most liberal terms.”

Compared Metuh’s N400mn bail against the following ” most liberal” bails-

          #1 – Robert Durst – US$3 Bn (N600Bn)
New York real estate heir Robert Durst was held in custody on one charge of bond jumping and two of tampering with evidence. After prosecutors charged Durst with evidence tampering, the judge slapped on an additional $2 billion bond, bringing the total bail to a $3 billion. Source: CNN

          #2 – Subrata Roy – US$1.6 Bn (N320Bn)
Subrata Roy, the boss of Indian conglomerate Sahara, is currently in a New Delhi prison on contempt-of-court charges and needs to post $1.6 billion in bail to get out. Roy is. Source: Business Insider

          #3 – Kim Freeman – US$1 Bn (N200Bn)
In 2005, A Columbus, Ohio judge set bond at $1 billion for Kim Freeman, who was accused, along with three others, of running a brothel.

    • New Nigerian

APC na the judge? How about Panadol? The first 400million is for the actual money stolen, the second N400m is to ensure that the proceeds from the stolen money is also obtained – you know how Nigerians are good business people – even you, if you receive N400m today, tomorrow it s more than N400m…justice cares about tangible facts like

    • Bidemi Lukman

Which fair hearing does a criminal needs. Do you know how many people this guys had sent to early grave and render thier family hopeless because of thier corruption.

Were Metu and Co fair to Nigerians when looting common wealth? Gratest injustice to Nigerians would be to be fair to these criminals in your own terms.

Left to me, they should be remanded in prison still their case is finally judged.

      • Contact Point

        Don’t mind that silly moron

      • Richard

…..so you have already labelled him a criminal before courts decision…..it seems all of you are drinking from same cup and taking something……labelled guilty before trial……allow the court to label them so first………

        • Bidemi Lukman

if not a criminal, why did he attempted destroying evidence by tearing and attempting chewing statement he wrote.

I dont need Nigerian judge to convinct him before i label him a criminal. Was Ibori not discharged by Nigerian judge before being sentenced for similar case outside the country?

Was Bode George not jailed by a judge in Nigeria before another judge from the same country turned down the case and set him free after serving jail terms?

Where is Nigerian judicial system intergrity?

    • Höly Wähala

What? How?? Dem no grant bail you complain… dem grant bail you still dey wail.

      • Say the truth

This is a serious matter. A precedent has now been set. When that precedent catches up with another tomorrow I hope there will be no complaints In 1983 we encouraged impunity and abuse of processes because we wanted things fixed quickly. It started with criminal prosecution of politicians and we all shouted hosanna. It gradually moved to hounding of journalists and activists that challenged government policies. By the time we woke up the abuse had gone full blown. The major weakness of the rule of law is its seeming slowness and compromising nature. Until you become a victim first hand and pronounced guilty before trial you will never appreciate the essence of the rule of law. It is Metuh today it could be anybody tomorrow. No sinner should go without punishment I concur. The law allows an accused to be treated fairly.

        • Burbank

“The law allows an accused to be treated fairly.”

Guantanamo’s accused are treated fairly too?

    • objective

Excuse me sir, the only people that remained to be bailed now and require soft bail conditions, are the poor Nigerian who have suffered the consequences of the inhuman actions of the perpetrators of these dastardly acts, and have continued under trial of fate. These are the Nigerians without Rights, they are the ones that are made to rot in prison for stealing a piece of yam because they are hungry. The people that even when granted bail, cannot find sureties because they mean nothing to everybody. These are those that urgently requires soft bail conditions, because even at N1000 they cannot meet the conditions. They are the people whose lives would have been better if the commonwealth is appropriately applied. They are victims of the looter.

With regards to Metuh’s bail conditions, that is the prerogative of the Judge under our constitution and other enabling Laws. If he feels that the bail conditions are onerous, let him go to the CA to seek a review. As it were however, I believe his cohorts who have stolen enough will help him find the money. To you sir, maybe the amount is much, to them it is chicken change.

      God will help us.

    • Bo Biz

Imagine the number of soldiers that died because of fighting with inferior and obsolete weapons as a direct result of the misappropriation of the money meant for the purchase of arms.Think of the number of our citizens bombed out of existence by boko haram in their suicide bombings because of lack of fighting assets by our soldiers as result of the money stolen by Metuh and others.
Pls reflect on the children, vulnerable women and the elders that are now refugees in their own country because of the impunity of your Metuh and others.Have you ever thought of the widows, the orphans, and destitutes of this war?
The Dasukis, and Metuhs of Nigeria should thank their stars that this not China or any other serious country.
Our judiciary must stand up to defend and reclaim Nigeria from these evil politicians and their supporters. We need more Judges who will consign these thieves to jail without mercy.

      • ayo

My guy we have a lot of enemies of Nigeria within. Guys that have made their fortune via the blood of the majority of Nigerians. Guys that only know the enterprise of crime through out their existence. They are all here among us. We know something is wrong with their brains. We have to show our strength in numbers and make our voice heard and push them to the fringe of our society.

      • Omo

@ Bo Biz God bless you…..Every body against what Buhari is doing now should read this over and over again if you still hate Buhari for what he’s doing now then you need help…

    • Fadama

The consequences of crime should be small. This is the best way forward. Corruption must be discouraged

    • ayo

Say the truth, you are full of lies. This are heinous crimes against Nigerians hence the harsh bail. If he is innocent he gets his money back. This would send the right message to politicians who are mostly career criminals. Personally I have no pity for all this smelly crooks. Their collective actions have destroyed Nigeria. One by one please roll them in, freeze their accounts and send them to Jail. Good riddance…..

      • Burbank

        Gbam

    • Burbank

Perhaps Metuh should be given a bail of maximum N10; only then will he gets a fair hearing.

  • New Nigerian

Wonderful news. Judiciary is finally working efficiently for Nigeria in the area of killing corruption before it kills Nigeria. First collect the N400m. And in the trial ensure that the proceeds from the N400m invested by Metuh is also collected back to the treasury of the federal republic. This is the blue print going forward – if pdplutocrats stole N1, he gets bail posting a bond of N1 and surety at the same amount. Everyone can do this simple arithmetic.

    • Rumournaire

Yes! What has also helped is that a lot of the corrupt judges who grant ludicrous injunctions have been transferred to “arid” territories! As a result, many judges are now afraid. Good thing for Nigeria!

  • Victor Aikhionbare

    Praise God

  • Shahokaya

I like that. The goats that eat our yam will now eat pepper..

  • D1

Check mate! Metuh will be the loser after all, and Nigeria gets her money back through the bond.

  • Debekeme

    LOL…. Laugh Wan Kill me!

The exact amount he stole! LOL.

When honest judges and honest prosecutors work together NIGERIA BENEFITS!

God Bless Nigeria… still laughing… poetic justice.

President Buhari Has No Capacity To Rule Nigeria. – Bloomberg UK.

**Nigeria dangerous sliding, investments in all-time low, stock market rated world 3rd-worst & growth slow to 16-year.

International financial and business news giant, Bloomberg, has expressed serious doubts on the ability of President Muhammad Buhari of Nigeria to turn around Africa’s largest economy and oil producer.

In a scathing analysis of the over six months of Buhari in office, the news outlet concluded that the country was on a dangerous slide with investments at an all-time low, the stock market rated as the third-worst performing globally within the period, and growth projected to slow to a 16-year low of 3.3 percent.

In an article, Buhari Bounce Becomes Bust As Nigeria Policies Annoy Investors, the group noted that stocks that soared as investors looked to the former military ruler to reverse decades of economic mismanagement and policy inertia, have all nosed dived and “Now hopes have fizzled in his ability to turn around Africa’s largest economy and oil producer.

“Money that flowed into stocks and bonds in the West African nation, which McKinsey & Co. says could become one of the world’s 20 biggest economies by 2030, is now fleeing as growth prospects diminish along with oil prices. While Buhari, 72, has prioritized stamping out the graft that has plagued Nigeria since independence from Britain in 1960, policy-making appears as uncertain and haphazard as ever.”
Quoting Ayodele Salami, who oversees about $500 million of African equities as chief investment officer of London-based Duet Asset Management Ltd., he said the initial euphoria has turned to disillusionment.

This is jaundiced journalism at it’s worst. Any data set could be skewed to support any line of argument. As of Jan 15, 2016, the world economy shaved off between 8.73% and 11.01% (see Barron’s issue of January 18, 2016 – US edition). Worldwide, there is capital flight taking place: Cash is king again. – Buhari and company did not cause that.
What is my jive? Your specialists knew of oil glut but not the psychology of investors. About Nigeria, there was the business environmental certainty of having to bribe some officials to get your deal consummated. That certainty has been replaced with the uncertainty of “who is the new guy, and what does he want”. Until the rules of the game are re-established, there would be some lull. If you are an investor who had made money in the previous dispensation, especially through some “non-kosher” practices, you will make sure you keep your funds as far away from Nigeria as possible.
Investors who rely on siphoning the foreign reserves of the country through “wash” trades – taking raw materials out (cheaply) and bringing finished products in (at steep prices) will definitely have a rethink.

      • Burbank

Good retorts against recycled debunked allegations.

    • Dodondawa

If I understand you correctly, it is the clueless PHD holder who is more or less a waste of space that can successfully govern Nigeria. You are delusional. Keep it up

  • hard soff

Seems like a fair first step. For a serious fight against corruption, bail/bond shouldn’t – by any stretch of the imagination – be less than the alleged loot. This bail/bond should be conditioned on the “source of fund” hearing. This will make sure that people who are “squeaky-clean” will come out and pay up …. let’s see how many there are, and if they paid their taxes “as at when due” or “as they became due”.

  • shola

The ball lies in Methu’s court. You have to upchuck this sum or you take the monopoly art – go straight into prison.

  • hard soff

I am a huge fan of the purge going on in the homeland at the moment. I am however haunted by the ghost of “purge past”. General Buhari and Brigadier Idiagbon cleaned too close to some very big gooks (supposedly in the military) … the rest of the story was a prolonged tailspin for the country, culminating in mass starvation in the midst of plenty. It took thirty years for PMB to complete a comeback.
Is the country prepared to forestall a repeat of his ouster? Corruption is already fighting back and, will fight back harder. I am not a prophet – I just know that good things (over the years) seldom last.

    • Onike24

But this time we are ready for it. If we don’t kill corruption, Nigeria will collapse. No ifs no buts.

i have not read any logical explanation ever given by Olisa Metuh for taking this ₦400million.
No sensible reason whatsoever. “The money was used for an assignment for ex-president Jonathan,”
is about the farthest Olisa Metuh has moved from the obscurity of his audacious taking, but even
that does not make any sense either, unless Olisa Metuh is befuddled to believe the money belongs

Genocide of over 3.5 million people by starvation, Continuous pogrom of the Igbo in the north since 1945, Denying the Hausa Fulani 100% of the oil block that is found in Hausa-Fulani-Yoruba land. Introducing Islamic terrorism that targeted only the Igbo in its initial stages, owning 98% of buhari’s dictatorial presidency. Being at the helm of the following top position 7 INEC bosses, Supreme and appeal court Bosses, NAS leadership, all military command position, Police boss, EFCC boss, FRSC boss, DSS boss, Custom boss, Immigration boss, destroying the good of Hausa-Fulani-Yoruba and their shops worth billions of naira in Lagos. ordering Hausa-Fulani-Yoruba to vote only one party or else they will be drown in the Lagoon. You must be retarded and I have no doubt in my mind. I put it in reverse may be you can understand since your brain work in reverse way. Mumafucker.

          • Bo Biz

@I sigh, while the fact that I’m more Igbo than you is not debatable,I must confess that 20 years ago I was more of a tribalist like you are today. What changed me was exposure and assimilation to civilized culture, and true democratic environment. No amount of money can buy it,but can only be acquired by genuine open mind-set,maturity and the ability to grow up.
The Nzeogwu -led coup though a necessary evil then aimed at curtailing the excesses of the political class and restoring Nigeria to the right path was poorly executed by Ifeajuna and his cohorts.Northern senior political class were decimated, one or two from South West and Mid-Western regions were also eliminated while their Igbo counterparts were spared.Rightly or wrongly the northerners read meanings into the whole patriotic assignment, and went on killing spree of the Igbos after their counter coup.We lost our Aguiyi Ironsi and other compatriots.
The pogrom and genocidal massacres of Ndigbo in Northern Nigeria that followed was barbaric, and believe me, I suffered the injustice more than you.The civil war that followed decimated Ndigbo, and we lost everything, men, materials, positions, etc. My dad lost 2 properties in Port Harcourt, his flourishing business and his younger brother.
Ndigbo lost the civil war and lost everything we had before the civil war in almost all sectors of our national life.We fought against superior powers not really the Nigerian armed forces. The equation was against us then, the status quo still remains, hence the need to be mindful of reckless venturing into another hostilities.
On the location of oil and allocation of oil blocks, skillful negotiation to true fiscal federalism will take care of the imbalance. The oil blocks are not 100% controlled by the Hausa-Fulanis like you postulated, but there are huge imbalance no doubt. But even at that should we allow history to repeat itself by blindly confronting a group that can easily mobilize both internal and external military forces to crush us to oblivion if we play into their hands again. My answer is NO,but rather “well-thought” strategic realignment across the niger.I’ll be addressing your remaining points in the part of my response.I have a board meeting to attend now.

          • Bo Biz

Part 2: @I sigh, this is the continuation of my response. On your so called introduction of islamic terrorism,I want to remind you of what ex- National Security Adviser to Jonathan,Gen Aziza said about boko haram being PDP game plan.He paid with his life for telling Nigerians the truth. We can now see that boko haram was a money making venture with religious coloration that went out of hand. PDP did not envisage that the boko haram venture would be hijacked by young muslim blood suckers in the north.Unpopular and incompetent leaders most at times deliberately provoke external aggression to wipe up nationalistic nostalgia among his subjects or create internal conflicts to keep it’s military busy. PDP created boko haram for political expediency and also as an avenue to loot the treasury.
Your asserted that Ndigbo were schemed out of top judiciary, political, military and public service positions by the Hausa-Fulani and Yoruba tribes.Let me remind you that politics is a zero sun game of numbers.Ndigbo blindly supported and voted for Jonathan because he smuggled Azikiwe into his name, not minding the poltical reality of late 2014 and early 2015 that showed clearly that Buhari will be beating Jonathan silly.Even when APC hinted that Chris Ngige will be the senate president in the 8th senate, our people failed to see beyond their noses thereby forfeiting the number three citizen status.
Remember that Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu(Ikemba Nnewi) contested for Nigeria’s presidency twice but did not get up to one percent of Ndigbo votes.Very pathetic, where is our so called Igboness? Orji Uzo Kalu from Igbere,Abia state also contested for the presidency, was he supported by Ndigbo despite all his financial fire power and strong connections across all the 6 geo-political regions of Nigeria. The truth is that we don’t know how to play national politics, and should leave it for now,and focus all our energies in commerce and industrialization of Ala Igbo.
You also claimed Lagos state destroyed shops and properties of Ndigbo, but I read Joe Igbokwe’s account of the genesis of the whole affairs. My in-law trading in Lagos corroborated what Joe Igbokwe said.I don’t know how many national economic capitals you’ve visited in the world, you’ll understand the need to give Lagos (as Nigeria’s economic capital) a face lift.Ndigbo should not constitute themselves into nuisance or obstacles to the development of their host state.
You also rightly mentioned that the northerners have ruled Nigeria more than the other tribes combined, but you must understand that they have the numbers(real or imagined),political sagacity and unity of purpose to wrestle power and keep it for good if the wish. Can Ndigbo organise themselves into a formidable movement, realign with the south west and south south to re-position themselves and offer Nigeria an alternative political platform with the co operation of the Benue-Plateau region. Can Ndigbo be trusted to control power at the centre going by our recent past mess as senate president, when we where minting senate presidents every quarter? We need to undergo political apprenticeship, and learn the craft.
Fanatical agitations, jaundice politics and bigoted clannishness will not help Ndigbo wrestle power at the center, neither will violence midwife Biafra for us.

          • I sigh

I knew you were an imposter when you started writing Igbo to “front” that you are Igbo. Nobody does that because by their fruit we shall know them. Boko Haram is not sponsored by young Muslims. it is founded by grown up wealthy Muslims. Aziz had his own opinion just like everyone. His opinion has not been collaborated with facts on the ground. So the Islamist Yusuf that formed Boko Haram was PDP agent, right? A ruling party created BH to antagonize its self right? You don’t worth my time.

          • Bo Biz

Ututu oma I sigh,This is exactly the problem with most of you brainwashed, jobless ones destroying the image of the Ndigbo. Primordial clannishness has blinded you into believing that every Igbo man must be a lunatic like you wailing 24 hrs about so called marginalization without critical self-examination and balanced analysis of the facts .Inquire from the Igbo leadership here in United Kingdom about Bo,I’ve been a turn in the flesh of misguided ones like you here.If you are more Igbo than me,let me text you my UK number let’s discuss the Igbo problems for at least five minutes today.Nwata etoghi eto chuba ihe gburu nna ya,ihe egburu nna egbukwue nwata. Ilu ka Ndigbo ji ekwu okwu.

          • I sigh

You are very sick. I have a better job than you, I can promise you that. In every 12 there must be a Judas. If you are Igbo, you are the Judas or paid. You can speak Igbo until thy kingdom come, it does not make you less lunatic.

          • Bo Biz

@I sigh,I’m still expecting you to take up my challenge of proving who among us is more Igbo than the other.Let me email my UK phone number to you (you can open a new email address just for this encounter),you’ll call me for just a second to confirm my number and identity, then I’ll call you back on the same number immediately for a five minutes discussion in IGBO LANGUAGE on your so called Igbo marginalization by other tribes in Nigeria. You’ll be free to ask me everything you need to know about my background,my position on the place of Ndigbo in Nigeria, etc, etc all in asusu ala Igbo.

          • I sigh

If you are Igbo, like I said earlier, you are the kind that is drowning and be asking for a cup of water. You opened your mouth and said that GEJ or PDP introduced Boko Haram. Is GEJ a Muslim? The founder of BH was there before GEJ. Secondly you gave instances where some Igbo have failed in the senate, therefore you concluded that Igbos do not have leadership intergrity. Abacha and all the Northern president and head of states looted and destroyed Nigeria, yet I don’t see you condemning Hausa-Fulani in an absolute way the way you lie about the Igbo. I have told you that I don’t have your time. Join them in Nigeria when Biafra self determination is achieved.

Quoting Ayodele Salami, who oversees about $500 million of African equities as chief investment officer of London-based Duet Asset Management Ltd., he said the initial euphoria has turned to disillusionment.—

There is now a new twist to secure bail. The accused will deposit the exact amount of money he was alleged to have collected. When the money is with the courts there is no case to answer! For two weeks the EFCC kept asking Metuh to give them the money he collected from GEJ and he refused.
The courts have joined the efforts of recovering stolen funds. Hurry!

This is the way to go Nigeria. Thank you judge!
