Media Chat: PDP reacts, slams Buhari as an “unrepentant tyrant”

Olisa Metuh, Spokesman, PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, says President Muhammadu Buhari’s responses at Wednesday’s Presidential Media Chat were not only “embarrassing”, but further exposed Mr. Buhari as an “unrepentant tyrant” who has no regard for the rule of law and the self-worth of Nigerian citizens.

The party, in a statement by its spokesperson, Olisa Metuh, on Thursday also said the president confirmed his partisanship in the much-vaunted war against corruption by openly absolving his ministers and party members of corrupt practices.

“Whilst we restate our respect for the person and office of the president, we note that President Buhari bared his true colours to the world as an unrepentant tyrant. Today, the world is no longer in doubt as to who is behind the prevailing recklessness, abuse of rights of citizens and outright flouting of judicial pronouncements by security agencies.

“A situation where the president openly pronounced persons facing trial guilty and sanctioned their continued incarceration despite being granted bail by the courts, presents a dangerous fascist practice obtainable only in totalitarian societies like Mussolini’s Italy, Hitler’s Germany, Idi Amin’s Uganda and General Than Shwe’s Burma.

“This extremely shocking dictatorial tendency being brazenly exhibited by the president in total disdain for our laws and judicial institutions portends great danger for our democracy and constitutionally-guaranteed rights of the people, and should be resisted by the citizens before it festers.

“The scorn for the principle of separation of powers, especially the independence of the legislature, is further manifested in the declared craving to regulate the funding and running of the National Assembly, a matter constitutionally vested outside the jurisdiction of the executive. We are most uncomfortable about his attempt at trying to whip up public sentiments against an independent arm of government, especially the one vested with the constitutional power of appropriation.

“Following from the foregoing, therefore, it may be necessary to suspend the application of our Constitution and allow the president to operate as maximum ruler for four years after which the nation can return to a democracy.

“On the issue of the Chibok girls, President Buhari’s embarrassing declaration of seeking information on the whereabouts and state of the girls betrays an obvious insincerity which is in total conflict with his campaign promises in that regard. Thus by this declaration, our dear president has accepted failure on this issue and should therefore apologise to Nigerians for all the insults, abuse and aspersions cast on the past administration by himself and the leadership of his political party.

“On the issue of devaluation of the naira, there is an obvious conflict between the budget speech wherein the president stated that the government is assessing the foreign exchange rate with a view to attracting foreign investments and his categorical pronouncement during the media chat that the naira would not be devalued. We invite Nigerians to note that the president obviously does not understand the currency that applies in the devaluation of the naira (laugh out loud).

“Furthermore, Nigerians were shocked by the President’s labeling Nigerians as ‘very difficult lot’ while responding to questions on the strategy to be adopted in implementing his promised N5,000 social welfare package.

“This unhealthy portrayal of the citizens by the very father of the nation, who has remained unrelenting in de-marketing his country through unguarded statements, is indeed a great disservice to Nigeria and its international image. Consequently, we reject this negative labeling of our citizens and reiterate our confidence in them, especially the millions who remain honest, hardworking and credible.

“Finally, Nigerians must take copious note of the fact that the president gave no inspiring answers to questions pertaining to his campaign promises, the fight against insurgency and rescue of the Chibok girls, the poor state of the naira, sudden plunging of the economy under his watch, and the gradual loss of democratic rights and freedom,” the PDP said.

Oh pdp you’re crying fowl, metuh should focus more on development nigeria than criticising buhari.

  • Mohd Saqab iliyasu

Metuh all these shouting your making is your party’s making because Atleast Nigerians gave you 16 years but look where you took us to. We don’t know what you want again.

  • Arabakpura

I would have taken active interest had this come from APGA; coming from the PDP that put us in this mess in the first place is the height of insensitivity!
If PDP think that we are exiting democracy, I submit that they caused it 105%! By installing a clueless man who mismanaged our fortunes and crowned it by divvying up our resources amongst his favoured PDP kinsmen!
Every time they speak, I feel like reaching out to them in a most virulent way!
If Buhari was not good enough, the PDP actions gave room for his emergence!

  • Danladee

I hardly understand why these PDP goons are always fuming. Seething with rage and gnashing of teeth will not bring them back to power in the nearest future. God loves Nigeria. He always do.

  • arewethishopeless

It is not human to state one’s hatred over another human but my dislike of these devilish PDP goons grows by the hour.

Atleast 2 million Nigerians are roaming the landing despair, away from their communities, families and livelihoods. They are hungry and scared for their lives. Dont get me started on those maimed, killed, kidnapped, raped and so on. Yet, like the devils they are, have never once apologized, show remorse or gone to the IDPs to help and apologize.

When have you seen any PDP party person gone to the camps to help, support and comfort. No a single one. Rather their focus is on the one Nigerian they call their own – Dasuki. But as God does not sleep and hears our cries, each and every one of them will pay starting with their beloved Dasuki.

  • evidence

Buhari has confirmed that he is still the dictator that he has always been, the only thing that changed is his attire. Justifying the abuse of court orders for whatever reason is showing complete disdain for the same democratic institution that brought him.
Buhari ‎is illegally detaining his political foes against series of court orders, but he has been releasing and compensating boko haram members with billions of naira he borrowed from World Bank. Even with the carnage that they have unleashed on his people, he is still begging them and negotiating with them. Power is transient, worse case, 8 years, then Buhari should be ready to dance to the tune of the music he started. A very dangerous precedence for our democracy is slowly being set and only fools will cheer this dangerous and double edged sword style of governance.

    • Darlington

The way Dictator Buhari is fast plunging Nigeria into crisis, there may not be a united Nigeria to rule in the next three years if something serious is not done to stop this tyrant.

  • evidence

Kanu that has not killed one human and whose weapon is a radio has been branded a terrorist by buhari and buhari is illegally detaining him against court orders, yet buhari has been releasing and compensating boko haram members that have killed thousands of people, including women and children and has been begging them and negotiating with them, you are so mindless that if buhari kills your entire family, you will keep deifying him.‎ Zombie.

    • Rommel

Evidence points to the fact that he has imported fire arms and logistics equipment including subversive ones so no doubt, he does qualify to be held as a terrorist.

      • evidence

Evidence that exist only in your slavish mind. How come this evidence wasn’t presented in court? Buhari is giving a dog a bad name in order to hang it, while he’s releasing and compensating boko haram members that massacred and still massacring women and children. ‎

        • Reason-ability

why not wait till the court hearing. It is only at a trial that evidence can be presented.

          • evidence

What court? The one that the judge refused to hear the case anymore because according to him, buhari has continued to flout court orders,so their was no need ‎hearing any case? Or the court that granted Dasuki bail only for DSS to re arrest Dasuki at the prison gate? Is it the court that buhari has continued to show total disdain for that we should wait for?

  • Rommel

The PDP has said that Mr Olisa Metuh does not have the powers to speak for them, why does he not get it?

  • Cleartruth

The media chat shows that dictator buhari has nothing to offer. He said the 5k is a promise made by “Prof osibande ” not him. He made it clear that court orders are not important. His ban on using of credit cards abroad has made it impossible for me to pay my professional fees abroad. I don’t have light and I can’t get fuel to buy for my car and generator for days now. Nigerians have been scammed by this f00l from daura.

    • Reason-ability

please do not start the New Year with this mindset-that things will always be bad for you. It is negative thinking. Pray for a positive 2016 for yourself and the nation. Let us build up and not destroy. May God help Nigeria to attain her potentials IJN. Amen

(Buhari’s presidency a misadventure for Nigerians, he remains a dictator – Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described the return to power of President Mohammadu Buhari as a misadventure for Nigerians, calling on the international community, especially organisations like the United Nations (UN) and European Union (EU) to focus their attention on human rights abuses and contempt for the rule of law in Nigeria in 2016.”

Governor Fayose, who said he was not disappointed by the President’s response during his media chat, to question on the disobedient of court orders by the Department of State Security (DSS), added that he had said it several times that once a dictator will always be a dictator and that those who helped him to power will end up in his gaol of dictatorship.

In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor said he was aware of plot to muzzle him and others considered as non-conformists because of their opinion and critical stance on the President and his government, adding that; “such plot will definitely be counterproductive.”

He described the way and manner the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) was being treated by the federal government as the hallmark of a dictator. “I said it earlier that Buhari is a dictator and I warned several times that those that were promoting this lion will end up in its belly.)

“Having heard from the President himself declaring Col Sambo Dasuki and Nnamdi Kanu guilty even before trial, Nigerians should be prepared for a return of the 1984 experience in which Buhari’s Military tribunal sentenced people to jail terms ranging from 21 to 300 years, such that the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) had to boycott the tribunal. Even when former Ondo state Governor, late Chief Michael Ajasin was twice cleared of any wrongdoing by Buhari’s military tribunals; he was made to remain in prison.)

  • Oh!

All These coming from the mouth of a man that publicly described his party (PDP) as experts in transferring wealth from the public (nations treasury) to the private sector (the pocket of PDP’s friends).

Metuh, we refuse to believe that you can be this shameless and thoughtless. You talk about Buhari abusing the rights of Nigeria’s citizens. You call him a Tyrant, comparing him to Hitler!
If you really want to talk about the abuse of the rights of the average Nigerian. LOOK NO FURTHER THAN YOUR PARTY!

You looted the treasury. Did nothing about chibok girls for 6 years! Paid thieves and terrorist billions to guard and protect pipelines from themselves…….there is too much……to say.

We therefore summarize as follows. Metuh, you are an ID10T!

  • 2hf

Olisa Metuh and Fayose have psychiatric problems!
