Nigeria military chiefs spend Christmas with troops, pledge to “effectively” end insurgency

The Minister of Defence, Muhammad Dan-Ali, has assured soldiers fighting insurgency in the North East of government’s determination to provide the needed logistics to expeditiously end insurgency in the country.

Mr. Dan-Ali, a retired brigadier-general, gave the assurance in Damaturu on Friday at a Christmas lunch organised for troops fighting insurgency in the North East.

He acknowledged some of the challenges facing the operations and noted that most of the challenges were being addressed.

The minister also urged the troops to remain committed to the war against insurgency in the North East.

“While your welfare need is being addressed, I urge you to continue to adhere to all the rules of engagement in your operations.

“I want you all to note that your actions and inactions will be accounted for, you must therefore respect the rights of people in your host communities,” he charged.

On his part, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gabriel Olonisakin, commended the sacrifices of troops fighting on different fronts across the country.

He said their contributions in the defeat of terrorism would not be forgotten in a hurry.

Mr. Olonisakin, however, urged the troops not to relent in their efforts to effectively end the insurgency.

“We are gradually moving into 2016, therefore, we must not rest on our oars to win the war.

“As we move into 2016, I want to enjoin you to be more determined to reclaim all lost territories. That is the charge and demand on all of you as we enter the New Year.

“On our part we will do our best to ensure that all logistics and welfare required to prosecute the war to a logical conclusion were provided,” he said.

The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, said the visit of the defence minister would boost the morale of troops in the ongoing operation.

He noted that the situation in the troubled region has improved tremendously and attributed the feat to the sacrifices of the troops.

“The security situation has greatly improved and I want to congratulate the troops for a job well done.

“We are entering the New Year and I believe that we will start winding down to conclude the operation,” he said.

The Yobe State deputy governor, Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed that the security situation had indeed improved in the state.

He said unlike the previous festivities since the insurgency started, residents were able to celebrate the yuletide without fear of any attack from the insurgents.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the event, held at Army Headquarters Logistic Base in Damaturu, was attended distinguished guests.

This is the professional way to fight a war. Superior officers must be seen to commit to boosting the welfare and moral of their troops.

    • I did It 4 Love.

Thanks, leadership by example. That’s what we witness over here in Western world. Encouragement and recognition.

These guys are not on the same page as us.
December has ended. The war is over.
    Lai said so.
Even if you don’t believe Lies..sorry, I mean Lai, believe ‘mai gaskiya’.
He told the world the war is over.
We all know mai gaskiya doesn’t lie. He told them Abacha never stole a dime. And that’s the truth. Forget the Abacha loot propaganda. There is no loot anywhere! It’s all fiction..bedtime stories concocted by PDP.
    A-FEE-C. Chanji!!

The only war that is ongoing is to reclaim your senses that is captive to bigotry and prejudice.

Are you confirming or denying Vardy’s assertions? Or are you just about sentiments???!!!

        • Vardy Messi(#1 APC Fan)

Bros, that’s one question he certainly CANNOT answer!
If he CONFIRMS my ‘assertions’, it means he agrees there is NO war..and in effect, he is saying our gallant Army is lying.

If he DENIES my ‘assertions’, it means he believes there is NO Abacha loot..so in effect, he is saying mai gaskiya LIED in saying ‘Abacha didn’t loot’!
It also means he is saying the War is still ongoing. So in effect, he is saying mai gaskiya lied that the war is over.
He’s calling his hero a liar!

Now you see, he won’t dare answer your question..most of them are ALL about sentiments..and NO SUBSTANCE!

I do highly commends our galentry soldiers of courageous men and women and more especially our committed Nigeria’s Army Chief of staff Lt.Gen.Tukur Buratai for his astute commandering and leadership that no doubt did eventually all culminated into having dealt a significant heavy blow against evil and criminal gangs of bandits called Boko Haram sect in the North East. May almighty Allah/God bless each and every Nigeria soldiers in the war fronts in North-East. Also, I am wishing them a happy Yuletide and festive Xmas period and also wishing them the best and prosperous New Year 2016. Well done to Lt.Gen. God bless our local hunters and those stick carrying young men called civilian JTF. They are the ones doing the real job……sadly no one is talking about them let alone praise them. They are true patriots…….kudos

    • Otile

You are a very ungrateful Moslem. So you are discounting the sacrifices made by our boys from east of the Niger who are daily standing in harms way saving you from Boko Haram slaughter. Daily we hear of how soldiers from Oduduwaland are fleeing the war front, how the Arewa soldiers are refusing to fire at their Boko Haram relatives. The only people fighting Boko haram are our boys from east of the Niger and Christians from civilian JTF. At least you should say thank you to our boys from east of the Niger. They might as well come home and leave Boko boys to make worms’ meat out of you people. Ingrates.

    Bravo to our military.
