Worsening Economy: If you have shame, you will shut up, Nigerian government replies Ekweremadu, PDP

The Federal Government has said the poor state of the country’s economy, especially the depreciation in the Naira exchange rate, is the direct consequence of the incomprehensible mismanagement of the economy and the mindless looting of the national treasury under the immediate past Administration, rather than any so-called mismanagement by the Buhari Administration

”If there was still any honour left among thieves, there is no way the leaders of a party under whose watch the
nation’s economy suffered a monumental mismanagement and the Central Bank was turned to the ATM or piggy bank of a few people will have the temerity to insult a government that is working hard to turn things around or the citizens who are bearing the brunt of such mismanagement,” the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said in a statement on Sunday.

”It is now clear to all Nigerians that if the PDP had won the last general elections, Nigeria’s economy would not have survived one more month, considering the battering it received under the immediate past Administration. It is therefore unconscionable that those who should show contrition and hunker down to avoid public opprobrium are the same ones pointing an accusing finger at the Buhari Administration,” he said.

Mr. Mohammed described the comments credited to Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, that businesses may collapse in the next six months because the Buhari Administration has mismanaged the economy, as the clearest indication yet that the PDP and its leaders are still in denial about the massive body blows they inflicted on the Nigerian economy.

”Senator Ekweremadu complained about the depreciation of the Naira without telling Nigerians who ‘dollarized’ the Nigerian economy by bribing many individuals and groups with dollars during the last elections, thus inflicting a knock-out punch on the local currency. He also failed to tell Nigerians which government presided over the frenzied mop-up of dollars, either for ‘armsgate’ or for slush fund purposes, from the CBN to a point where it almost ran out of the hard currency,” he said

The Minister said even though the Buhari Administration met an economy that was in coma, it had refused to use that as an excuse for inaction, hence has been working hard on measures that will turn the economy around and greatly offer relief to Nigerians by lifting millions, not thousands, of people out of poverty through a massive social intervention policy.

”The outcome of the months of hard work will manifest soon in the 2016 national budget that will give succour to millions of Nigerians who are reeling from fallout of the solecism of the immediate past Administration that turned the country into a cash bazaar,” the Minister said

He advised the leaders of the PDP and members of the immediate past Administration who are involved in the emerging cases of looting binge to urgently return, to government coffers, the funds they have squirreled out of the commonwealth.

”They are lucky that Nigerians are not as incautious as they are, otherwise they would not be able to walk around freely, not to talk of having the effrontery to fire darts at the government that inherited their rot or the people who are suffering the consequences.

”They looted the billions of Naira that were allocated for the fight against insurgency, causing many innocent and patriotic soldiers to die needlessly, yet they are not remorseful. They looted the treasury to influence the last elections, doling out money as if it was going out of fashion, yet they continue to grandstand.

”In the latest revelation, a Minister under the immediate past dispensation admitted to sharing 600 million Naira to six Chairmen of the Contact and Mobilization Committee of the PDP for the last general elections, 300 million Naira to an account given by a former PDP chairman, 200 million Naira to a PDP governorship candidate and 100 million Naira to a former PDP governor. This is just one case out of many, yet these revelations are but a tip of the iceberg of what Nigerians will hear in the days ahead,” Mr. Mohammed said.

The Minister assured that despite the mind-boggling revelations about looting and the mismanagement by self-styled economic wizards, the economy will bounce back under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari, who is bringing probity and transparency back into governance.

Ekweremadu was right and APC’s vuvuzela–Mohammed was wrong. The market is worse now. Dollar is #261 per dollar. Foreign reserves has depleted to $28 billion from $32 billion GEJ left it. Buhari is about to borrow #2 trillion to finance next year budget—the highest single borrowing in the history of Nigeria. Amnesty Fund for ex-militants has been slashed from #47 billion per year to #20 billion, while #40 billion has been budgeted for wild goose chase in the North in the name of looking for oil in a barren land. #5.2 Billion has been spent on presidential jets in less than six months. Governors are about to slash #18, 000 minimum wage. Federal Civil Servants’ salaries are now a game of probability. Two inconclusive elections. Senate is about to banned social media. Thousands of workers have been laid off by private companies as a result of uncertainty in the economy. Where will i stop? Where is the change? Is this the change? How can an economy running deficit borrow money to fund social programs? Nigeria economy will enter recession next year if care is not taken…..

You mean Ekweremadu is still in Nigeria and has the taciturnity to “address Nigerians” on the state of the economy? I will be shocked if he wasn’t a beneficiary of the #ArmsGate! Shame! ONLY GULLIBLE PEOPLE WILL BUY INTO EKWEREMADU’s antics…Nigerians are wiser!

DSP ekweremadu should know that pdp dollarized the nation in the previous presidential election, which help to destabilize our economy, and armsgate which dasuki used money meant to buy arms to sponsor their election, all thanks to Nigerians who help sweep pdp out of power, if not the country will be in disarray. Ekweremadu is the bag of scum PDP squeezed into our seat of power in their usual dubiousness through a greedy Saraki. He is a political suicide bomber with PDP explosives all around his body, gradually inching to detonation point. The Ibos do not reckon with him in or out of position. He is simply a recurrent crook and distraction without shame. Fr Mbaka mentioned on TV how the nonentity brought Patience Jonathan’s bribe to Adoration Ministry and was like Simon the sorcerer rejected. Ekweremadu pocketed the rejected bribe thereby placing a curse on himself and his generation. He is a ready made receiver of even ritualistic crumbs in the name of politics. • growthengine

Does this response revive the economy by putting food on the table or strengthen the Naira. What we need is the attraction of local and foreign investment the removal of subsidy and the trimming of state and federal workers, further investment in agriculture. Not this type of gutter response to begging national issues. No amount of stolen wealth or money can revive the economy. Even the so called bail out by Buhari has even been stolen already. These APC are a bunch of time wasters.

Have you heard about the senators planning to spend over 4 billion dollars on foreign made vehicles when we have made in Nigeria even though the allocation is illegal?

PMB gave the PDP touts the impetus to insult our intelligence.

    1. You said the PDP turned the CBN into an ATM machine: still you are keeping the CBN Governor in office instead of him being with the Dasuki gang in EFCC.

    2. 450,000 barrels allocated to NNPC daily for local “consumption” which they are giving to their cronies for swap. You have 159 liters of petro in a barrel of oil plus other by-products. 450,000 barrel will be 71,559,000 liters of petrol since diesel is already deregulated. During the Ministerial screening the Minister of State for Petroleum said our daily consumption is between 25-30,000,000. Excess of 40 million liters of oil. Still we are paying a trillion Naira in subsidy yearly. PDP knew how they were gang raping Nigeria and the satusquo is still being maintain, WHERE IS THE CHANGE.

    3. The petrol subsidy investigation report is in the President office, what is he doing about it. Why are the same people indicted in the report still parading the corridor of power and influencing appointments? WHERE IS THE CHANGE?

SACK THE CBN GOVERNOR NOW !!!

the question begging for an answer are simple ,1 that Nigerian economy has grounded to a traumatic halt with foreign investors engaging in rat race to pull out as if Nigerian economy is on fire,2that the exchange rate have crashed to 260 to a dollar the worst in the history of Nigeria, that importers can no longer finance their trade because buhari is had packed all the dollars, 3.that inspire of the payment of the highest subsidy payment of 500 billion fuel is no where to be found with filling stations selling 170 per litre in Lagos and black market selling 250. 4.,that up till now buhari have no idea about fighting insurgency with more Nigerians and soldiers dying during 7 months of buhari rule,/5 .that buhari after 7 months on the saddle have not awarded any contract whatsoever to rift the economic sector while the economy had fallen flat 5..Nigerian stock market have lost more value under buhari than at any time. Kidnappings have increased, robbery have gone out of hand,Fulani herdsmen have become Fulani killers and kiddnapers ,bribery and corruption is at all time high .liar Mohammed has shown himself to be unfit for the office he is occupying ,instead of him to tell Nigerians buharis strategies and blueprint at rescuing our nation from this calamity, he was making mockery of himself by talking about 600 million .for Gods sake can liar Mohammed tell Nigerians how much amaechi, fashola and tinubu spent on APC campaign, can liar Mohammed boldly and sincerely tell Nigerians how much his son spent to win a seat at LSHA in the last elections.since may 29 is Nigeria not earning billions of dollars, aside the billions of dollars left by GEJ government ,diezani alone left about 6.5 billion dollars in NLNG account and yet Nigeria have fallen this bad with no idea on rescue at sight.may God save our nation from this band of highly sophisticated crooks using propaganda, lies, peddling of falsehoods and blackmail to loot our nation.may this cup quickly pass away without permanently destroying our nation.

Between may 29 and now,Nigeria have made not less than 50 billion dollars in revenue, where is d money and what was it used for, I challenge you to show one project awards by buhari for 7 months apart from the helipad in daura, what kind of leakage are you talking about ,how can his under an allegedly misappropriation of possibly say $10 billion dollars according to the highest lies of APC to hold down a nation for 7 months under the lame and malicious excuse that buhari is cleaning the table for 7months .can you please ask liar Mohammed or your self to tell Nigerians why naira which was changing at 200 to a dollar by June 1 is now 268 today, the fuel has become non available again 7 months after change, electricity has gone to all time low with my area in Lagos receiving 30 minutes from 12 hours of light in 24 hours prior to may 29 and 18 hours by June ,insecurity have become too bad with violent crimes at all time highest level, boko haram had become too darling, businesses have collapsed at a speed of light within 7 months of buhari.states have gone bankrupt not minding the media inducement .how can cleaning of a table lead to the complete burning down of the house.buhari have clearly undermined Nigeria through thoughtless and clueless leadership and to make matters worst he surrounded himself with much more hollow minded almajiri imbeciles who are bankrupt in mind and reasoning faculties. This is calamity that have befallen our nation but may God save our nation from this jega imposed terminal affliction.

  • Omooba A

Thanks for saying it the way it is Mr. Lai. This is what a nation with airheads as leaders get. PDP ruined the economy under GEJ for six years and one of his cohorts thinks that the new government did it in six months? It is a pity that shameless people like Ekweremadu could still talk about bad economy in Nigeria. This is a man that stole billions of Naira appropriated for constitution review with nothing to show for it. His day are numbered as he will soon be facing serious charges for his role in misappropriation of funds by his party.

    • share Idea

When GEJ was there, your type and Buhari accused him of diverting some thousands of crude and thus, distributable revenue was dropping but Dollar to naira was stable and domiciliary account was being operated by owners without restrictions and now the mr integrity have gone in, the story of diversion of crude oil is no longer convenient and now, it is because of past administration mismanagement of economy. Hope it was past administration that made Buhari to continue paying fuel subsidy he said then that was a fraud.

It is on record that only Yaradua and GEJ were the only president that reduced the price of fuel due to fall in price of crude oil. GEJ reduced the price of fuel when crude price dropped to about $60 and now the price hover about $40, the messiah is still paying subsidy without reduction in the price of fuel.

      • Omooba A

What’s your point? Are you listening or reading the news coming from Nigeria on how the treasury was looted by the past administration? When the economy was good after OBJ left, the incoming government, i.e. Yaradua/GEJ never complained and Nigerian didn’t either. The economy was still buoyant after Yaradua died. Before GEJ left, he couldn’t pay workers salary and now we know why. What do you think would have happened if he won the election? Situation will be worst than we are now as none of the money stolen could have been probed or retrieved. As for your messiah, whatever you mean by that, the country do not need one but few selfless men and women to sanitized the economy from the rot that GEJ left behind. It is shameless for those that run down the economy for six years to be saying that it happened in six months of the new government. You don’t have to be an economist to know that when the price of the main export of a country is down, the currency will take a nose dive. Nigerian reserve is in dollars and it helps stabilized the Naira, when the reserve and export dwindle there goes the Naira value.

I don’t pay attention to media trial, has any court pronounced those people guilty or appropriate agencies of government being doing their jobs fairly?

Please can you answer the following questions?
          1. Where did the president get the money he was using to prosecute operation Doyle in NE before the passage of supplementary budget by NASS, last two weeks?
2.Who approves subsidy payments for NNPC that they continued to import fuel when other marketers refused to import due to the fact that federal govt have not paid backlog subsidy fees.
3.Who approved the bail-out fund the federal govtused in bailing out the states
4.Can Buhari and APC disclose how their finance their presidential election campaign.

I can go on, but only highlighted the few points above just to show you how biased the current administration is with regards to information being leaked out to the public through friendly media.

Propaganda and lies can only sustain this administration for awhile and very soon they will run out ideas on what to engage their gullible fans on.

          • Omooba A

That you don’t pay attention to media ‘trial’ is an understatement – my comment was from the media and I don’t believe that you respond because you know better than most of us in this forum on how PDP and GEJ ruined Nigeria economy. My comment to Mr. Lai has nothing to do with media trial but on how shameless a PDP member was blaming the economy woes on PMB government. You may not believe everything you read in the media, that is why you need to read the rejoinders from those alleged to have done some wrongs and decide on who you believe. As for where the president got the money for project Doyle and others, your question should be directed to him for answers. If you know how and is against the norm, then share it with EFCC and let the president be impeached, prosecuted, court marshaled, or sent packing from Aso Rock. There was a statement in the media that he used the latest monies accrued from liquefied gas for the bail out. Since there wasn’t FEC then, the decision must have been made with the governors or by executive order – that may be why no hell was raised by anyone including PDP. If for whatever reason the president did not act according to Nigerian law to fund projects, the opposition will be looking for his head by now. Olisa Metuh would have had a filled day on how a corrupt president is looting the treasury to finance his personal projects or what have you. By the way, I am not a card carrying member of any political party and could not tell you where APC money for election came from. It could be from loan, citizen of Nigeria, financed by godfathers, or all of the above. However, one thing is certain, the election was not financed by Central Bank like GEJ and PDP – as Nigerians are now reading in the media. I am for any government that will improve the livelihood of the populace and I supported GEJ initially only to be disappointed – just like many Nigerians.

          • share Idea

I don’t claim to know it all – hence my handle (share Idea), however, I’m totally against biased article or reportage.

From your comment, you have already convicted PDP and their members but feign ignorance of the points I raised about Buhari and APC – I call this your behaviour sheer hypocrisy. You excused Buhari for giving out bail-out without recourse to NASS and you qualify it that the money was from NLNG but in the same breadth you indicted GEJ’s government for using some part of Abacha’s recovered loot to prosecute BH war.

For your comment on how the president is funding the operation Doyle – you want me to ask the president, is it supposed to be a personal thing, I thought the president is an open book that tells all his subjects the whole truth – why is this one difficult for his bosom fans like you to know. Nigeria we hail thee

          • Omooba A

I like your handle and that is probably why I am sharing with you what I read from various media sources within and outside the country. Nobody is convicting PDP but PDP. You need to indulge in reading Nigerian news for the latest finger pointing from the ex-minister of Finance to Dasuki and now to GEJ. All these on various monies taken from CBN prior to the election. As stated earlier, I am not a card carrying member of any party, do not know PMB, and couldn’t be considered his bosom fans. Like he, PMB, mildly stated, he belongs to no one but to everyone. I am only a fan to a president whose agenda are friendly to the masses and the moment he deviates from helping the masses, I stop being a fan. I considered myself a GEJ fan when he was running for the presidency until I was proven wrong like many Nigerians. According to the latest revelations, Abacha loot was never spent to fight BH but was diverted to various hands – governors, PDP chairperson, etc., – to buy the election. This is according to Dasuki as reported in Nigerian dailies. With the type of opposition system in Nigeria politics, if PMB has done something impeachable by bypassing the NASS to spend unbudgeted funds, PDP would have been on his case – that is my opinion.

    Ebubedike,

The problem is that LAI MUHAMMED is the dullest Minister of Information Nigeria has ever had.
Even Alex Akinyele beats him in commanding attention. Lai Muhammed is instead roundly ignored.
You know why? He is a fake man with immense inferiority complex. Nigerians see dissonance in him.
He is a local and smelly rustic fellow who hires people with cosmopolitan outlook to help write for him.
When Nigerians then read what he’s signed as press statement versus the diction of his own speech,
there’s no harmony of diction at all. Nigerians just make up their minds to dis-regard this village man
who aspires to the modernity he does not have. Lai Muhammed should accept his birth circumstance
as a very local man, then, get rid of his inferiority complex, and write just the way he speaks. If he does,
he will be less disbelieved. But hiring men and women who attended elite colleges to use some AJEBOTA
phrases for him to sign off as his own press statement, makes Lai Muhammed look too funny to Nigerians.
Lai Muhammed deserves being laughed at. It is afterall not a sin to have attended local schools. or is it?

Cause of lack of payment-for jobs done-Money is only circulating between Buhari and his wife Aisha whom he married at 9, ati Tinubu and the Sultan of Sokoto—————-The SS, should gear up for separation—Picking some few Akwa Ibomites as public servants number 150, does not make sense-one little bit-Already, Buhari is priniting fake one thousand Naira notes and circulating same in the SS-to rig elections–Aware we are in this mess because Buhari is brain dead—It is his wife Aisha and Tinubu that are controllin the affairs of the Nation-and as it is usual with the Apes in APC, they are busy deceiving Nigerians by blaming Dasuki ati Jonathan–for all our current woes! If within 6 months of the luciferic rule of Fulani Buhari–the Nigerian economy could collapse like this–then in one year there will be a mass exodus of Nigerians to Togo amnd Chad-because of the collapsing economy

In the first nine months of the year, the Federal Government had spent N3.42tn out of the total N4.493tn spending approved in the 2015 budget.

These figures are contained in the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (2016-2018) sent by President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly.

The document was approved by the Federal Executive Council on Monday and sent to both chambers of the National Assembly on Tuesday for deliberation and approval.

In the MTEF, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent, the Federal Government said the N3.42tn was spent on both recurrent and capital expenditure in the nine-month period.
It stated, “Of the total appropriation of N4.49tn and a supplementary budget of N574.53bn for spending on security and emergency provision of subsidy claims, N3.42tn had been spent as of September for both recurrent and capital, with the shortfall in revenue inflow being made up by additional financing from borrowing and other sources.

“Recurrent expenditure has been on track. About 78.1 per cent, that is N1.77tn of the N2.23tn budgeted for the payment of salaries, pensions and overheads has been released, while debt service has been largely covered.”……..
