The Muhammadu Buhari administration will strive to deliver on its campaign promises to Nigerians, the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has assured.
Mr. Osinbajo gave the assurance on Saturday at Ikenne, his home town, where he was the Special Guest of Honour at the 39th Ereke Day celebration.
Ereke is an annual festival organised in Ikenne, Ogun State, as a platform for addressing the town’s developmental challenges.
Mr. Osinbajo pointed out that the opportunity to address the nation’s numerous challenges and reposition the country for greatness is now.
He said that the All Progressives Congress, APC, administration would keep its promises, saying “the President has no other business besides fixing the problems of the country.”
He cited corruption and stealing as some of the reasons why things had gone wrong in the country, adding “but it is time now to fix all that have gone wrong.”
He restated the commitment of the Federal Government to address the challenges facing the country.
He said: “we have to deal with unemployment of young people; we have to deal with infrastructure; we have to deal with bad roads; we have to restore power, the challenges are many.
“But I want to assure you that every single day that President Buhari spends in Abuja; that I spend in Abuja, we will work hard to achieve the promises we have made.
“You can be sure of an honest and transparent government; you can be sure of hard work.
“You can be sure that everything we promised, we will do.”
Mr. Osinbajo, who also spoke to journalists at the end of the event, said that President Buhari was working daily on how to solve Nigeria’s economic challenges.
“The President you know has no other business; he is not doing anything else; this is his life commitment.
“And he has said this is what he is going to commit his entire life to, to ensure that the economic problems are solved, employment opportunities are created,” the VP said.
He called on the indigenes of Ikenne to re-dedicate themselves to the visions of their elders such late Obafemi Awolowo, former Premier of the old Western Region.
At a separate event on Sunday, Mr. Osinbajo hailed the founding fathers of Igbobi College, Lagos, for laying solid structures for the grooming of Nigerian youths.
He gave the commendation at a Thanksgiving Service held at the college chapel by the Igbobi College Old Boys Association (ICOBA), 1969 to 1973/1975 set.
The VP, who recalled that the college was where he learnt his values and morals 40 years ago, praised the old students of his Alma Mater for the opportunity to come together to glorify God.
He said: “I think that it is right that we should thank God after 40 years we are able to gather in the chapel.
“The chapel looks very small now but when we were here it looked like a very big place.
“But this was a place where we learnt a great deal, we learnt values, we learnt morals.
“We learnt so much in this place from teachers and people who committed their lives to us to train and bring us up and to do some incredible things.”
Mr. Osinbajo observed that the old boys were not privileged to have some of the pioneer teachers at the event.
“But I hope that by the time we clock 50 years, we will take the opportunity to bring one or two people who were instrumental in making us who we are today.
“I want to thank the Lord on our behalf that we are all here today; we are able to see ourselves, talk and rejoice and that we also have our wives and families who are also rejoicing with us.
“It is a great thing indeed and I want to thank the Lord and on your behalf thank all those who have made this possible.”
