African countries happy over President Jonathan’s defeat – Obasanjo

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Thursday said countries across the African continent are happy over the outcome of the presidential election in Nigeria, which saw the defeat of incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

Mr. Obasanjo said his checks in a number of African countries suggested they were as happy over the result of the election as majority of Nigerians are.

He referred to President Goodluck Jonathan as a moving train who was providentially stopped from collapsing Nigeria.

“I have visited six countries since the election, they are as happy about the results as we are in Nigeria. It is good not only for Nigeria, it is good for Africa and I believe it is good for the world.”

Mr. Obasanjo, who led the African Union Observation Mission to the April 2015 General Election in Sudan, spoke on Thursday at a Washington DC event.

The former president described Nigeria as a country that obsessively plays “a dangerous game of moving close to the precipice”.

He said the country came close to disintegration in the run-up to the 2015 elections but switched swiftly to the path of redemption after the polls.

“I hope we will not fall over one of these days,” he said.

He said one month to the election, no one believed “we will have a peaceful election that is reasonably free and fair.”

Describing his role in the election as that of a person standing on the track of a moving train, the former president said during the countdown to the elections, he faced the option of “jumping off” the tracks or “be crushed” if the train did not providentially get “derailed and stop.”

He said he did not jump and was not crushed adding that “at every stage, there must be leaders imbued with sufficient courage and will to stand firm when you have to stand firm.”

He described the results of the elections as what Nigerians “deserve” though some Nigerians “did not want it”.
Mr. Obasanjo was the featured speaker at the United States Institute for Peace (USIP) event titled What is Right with Africa: Reframing Africa’s Leadership Challenges.

He made these remarks in response to a question by Princeton Lyman, a former ambassador to Nigeria.

Mr. Obasanjo observed that Nigeria’s tendency to flirt with near-death experiences stretches back to colonial times when it almost cost the country the chance of gaining political independence from Britain.

Recalling colonial-era disagreements over self-rule, the former President said at a stage, advocates of self-rule from the Eastern and Western Regions decided to “let the North go” since their leaders were reluctant to accept regional autonomy back then.

“But reason prevailed,” he said, “East and West got internal autonomy in 1957, North got same in 1959 and the whole country got independence in 1960.”

Listing the 1964 post-election violence in the south west and the 1966 coup d’etats which led to “pogrom and civil war” as other self-destructive phases in the country’s history, the former president remarked that Nigeria emerged from all of these as “one entity” in spite of contrarian speculations.

“Not only did we survive the civil war but, within nine years, somebody from the rebel side, as we called them, and somebody from the vandal side, as they called us, became president and vice-president of Nigeria. Not many countries achieve that,” he said.

President Obasanjo described the 2015 election as “almost in the same category” as other near-death experiences in Nigeria’s history.

He said one month to the election, no one believed “we will have a peaceful election that is reasonably free and fair.”

“I think we are now building institutions that can withstand what we may see as danger to good governance in Africa. The election has moved Nigeria one very important step up in our democratic dispensation, process and practice.”

Continue to live in delusion. There are two words to describe someone (in a supposedly elderly position) behaving in this manner. You could either be an agbaya (i.e. good for nothing) or were (mentally unstable). What has Obasanjo said now that makes sense to any reasonable human being? He goes abroad and insults his own country and its leader in the presence of foreigners. Did Bush do that of Obama? Gore of Bush? Cameron of Blair? Hollande of Sarkozy? How can a man who is sane and possessing compos menti talk in this manner? What is Obasanjo afraid of? Let me tell you. He, Buhari, Danjuma, Babangida are all afraid of the day someone will stop them from stealing the Natural Resource of the peoples of Niger Delta. It is all about the oil and the wealth these old men have made and are making from it. Obasanjo is afraid that people will wise up and rise up. Jonathan being a retard used by Obasanjo could not stop the continued pillage of these resources. Don’t worry, Mr. Obasanjo. The day you are scared of is coming and very soon too!

      • Your Biodun

And your Mr.Messiah has been there since 2009 and unable to stop these pillages?? He’s instead continued and advanced it to a unprecedented level.Am sure you will blame OBJ and the rest for the ongoing oil theft since EBELE came to office.A estimated 500.000 barrels of oil being stolen every month since 2009.Do you know how much EBELE and his cronies must have made since then??? Open your eyes, dude.

The Lord God Almighty knows that Buhari was not eligible to contest the 2015 Presidential Election ….. in this regard, President Goodluck Jonathan remains the validly elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and no one can change that fact.

May God bless President Goodluck Jonathan

I have confidence in President Jonathan because he has just the right temperament.
He is not bullish or rash like Obasanjo whose 11 years in office wasted Nigeria’s destiny.
President Jonathan shows far more maturity in crisis situation than Olusegun Obasanjo.
The last person Nigeria needs at this time is one with Obasanjo’s crude militant mentality.
It would be a good thing if providence gives President Jonathan another bite at the apple.
The result of the 2015 election reflected a regional northern coalition bent to vote him out.
That decision to vote un-erringly one way meant that Jonathan’s merits did not count at all
God bless President Jonathan for coming on stage when a guerilla would have ruined things.

The Islamic State (IS) has released a new video, since the USA sponsored victory of Buhari eulogising Nigeria’s Boko Haram, in the latest sign of closer ties between the two militant groups.

Images posted on IS-linked social media accounts refer to Boko Haram as the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (Iswap) – a catchy name aimed at showing that it has expanded beyond the Middle East and North Africa.

IS accepted a pledge of allegiance from Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau in March, giving the group its first foothold in sub-Saharan Africa in its efforts to create a global caliphate.

The latest images glorify Boko Haram fighters, describing those killed in battle as martyrs.

Unlike most previous pictures of people Boko Haram claims as its members, the young men are not masked and their faces are clearly visible.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has have linked the current hate attacks on Africans living in South Africa by the locals to Muhammadu Buhari and Shagari, who gave the same treatment to Africans, mostly West Africans in 1984.

They claimed that the ‘Ghana-must-go’ policy against Africans was Muhammadu Buhari’s Legacy to Africa in 1984.

I failed to see the wisdom or anything peaceful in the ex president’s utterance. Is he now making a mockery or deliberately misinterpreted the peaceful election and transition that Jonathan an incumbent lost and without a fight surrendered. Has he even praised the president for the peaceful election. He is only trying to slight the president because his birthday was not honoured (I faulted that). Is he that vindictive or vengeful. What did he say to those who said they were going to form parallel government if they lost. What about those that acquired weapons ready to blood shed if they lost the election. By the way sir now that their plan to unleash mayhem did not work, what is there next mission. Who doesn’t know which part of the country that unity and tolerance should be preached to in their local language. Where were party vehicles destroyed. Nigeria is bedevilled or rather jinxed ( according to baba) by all manner geographical inconvenience, social, tribe, religious and even mundane issues. This country is an explosive cocktail of sorts. Once in a while upheavals occur, it’s not military guns that keep Nigeria one rather it’s God’s will and prayer of honest Nigerians.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, is going to celebrate the defeat of Goodluck Jonathan from now till forever. He is going to compose it into a song, climb the mountain tops and shout it loud so the deaf will hear him. How pathetic can a man be? Those African countries he visited already know about his highly publicized hatred of President Goodluck Jonathan, so, they merely expressed the feelings they know will gladden Obasanjo’s heart. It is a pity that a grown man cannot tell the difference between honest declaration and a statement made to appease the listener. The little margin with which Mohammadu Buhari won the election cannot be translated to mean a landslide victory, so, Olusegun Obasanjo, should calm down his new found adore for Buhari. On a more serious note, the President-elect Mohammadu Buhari, MUST not fall for the diabolical antics of former President Obasanjo, if he gives him his ears, that will be the beginning of his end. With Olusegun Obasanjo as Buhari’s friend, then, the President-elect do not need an enemy.

People like you are the greatest enemy of the people who live in Nigeria. For you to refer to Nigeria as a country smacks of ignorance at its peak. This is even more so that your description of events is at variance with your assertion.

There can’t be love when people like OBaswanjo or whatever are still live and roaming around like holy deemons looking for who to devour…..a reversal of amalgamation is a most pertinent bespoke solution to Nigeria’s man made problems of incongruity, hatred or whatever you chose to call it.

“The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, UCLES, now Cambridge Assessment, has provided further details on the West African School Certificate, WASC, results presented by Muhammadu Buhari, the candidate of the All Progressives Candidate in the February 14 presidential election.

In a new post on its website, the university confirmed result grades for the examination in 1961 were issued in numbers, not letters, as suggested by critics of Mr. Buhari who have dismissed the results he presented as fabricated.

According to Cambridge, “Examination results were classed in grades from 1 to 9”.

    “1, 2,3,4,5 & 6 indicate a Pass with Credit; 7 & 8 indicate a Pass; 9 indicate a Failure,” the school said.

Results tendered by Mr. Buhari shows he had credits in English Language, Geography, Health Science, Hausa Language; failed in Mathematics and Woodwork, and had a pass in Literature in English.

In its post, Cambridge said for candidates to qualify for its certificate in 1961, they needed to pass English, and not necessarily Mathematics.

“To pass the School Certificate, candidates had to pass examinations in a variety of groups. It was compulsory to pass English Language, but not Maths, in order to gain the Certificate,” the university said.

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the campaign office of President Goodluck Jonathan accuse Mr. Buhari of lacking the requisite qualification for the office of the president.

Mr. Buhari, who ran for president in 2003, 2007 and 2011, repeatedly declared that copies of his academic records were with the military.

The former head of state also said original copies of his credentials were lost when his house was raided when he was in detention during the administration of Ibrahim Babangida who toppled his regime.

The Army at first said it had copies of Mr. Buhari’s results, but backtracked later, saying it had only a letter of recommendation from his principal at Katsina Provincial College, result grades without either the statement or certificate.

Responding, Mr. Buhari expressed surprise that the military could claim not to have his results, and insisted that he indeed completed high school and passed at Division Two level.

PREMIUM TIMES later exclusively published copies of Mr. Buhari’s WASC results as well as a master list containing the results of some of his classmates, obtained from his former secondary school, now Government College, Katsina.

But after the publication of the Statement of Results, some Nigerians, including President Jonathan and the PDP, dismissed the results as forged.

One of the allegations said Hausa language was not part of the Cambridge exams in 1961.

Another said Mr. Buhari’s results that year were recorded in alphabets, not in letters as Mr. Buhari claimed.

While Cambridge has declined to categorically confirm Mr. Buhari’s results, saying only the APC candidate could request or authorize such disclosure, the school posted a response to enquiries on the matter on their website authenticating some of the claims in Mr. Buhari’s result.

The University confirmed that according to the Regulations for 1961, African Language papers, including those for Hausa, were set for the West African School Certificate.

It also put the number of candidates who sat for the WASC Hausa examination in 1961 at 152.

“Our records show that Hausa was set in the Northern Region in 1961,” Cambridge said.

The university also confirmed result grades in 1961 were issued in numbers, not letters,”

    OBJ,

We love you. You are the only leader in Nigeria who has handed power over to another leader, both as a military personnel and as a private citizen. You have helped democracy more than most people are willing to acknowledge. You have more honor than a thousand Jonathans residing in Otuoke.

        • Proud Yoruba

          Criminal? You are too nice.

Jona is the master of deception, the most corrupt human being I have ever observed. He is more deceitful and destructive than the devil. His mumu demeanor is an act to disarm innocent people so he can pounce and devour.

The US warned us through the wikileaks files about his corruption, but no one could believe that it was possible for someone to be so evil and still function as a human being.

Mama peace told us they were sharing blood in the North east, but people thought she was talking rubbish as usual.

Now our eyes have opened, let us vet our choices better in the future.

            Proud Yoruba,

LOL. Jona is worse than we all thought and expected.

Can we say the same for the Otuoke clown who has become both a national burden and an eyesore in Aso Rock? The clown is leaving office with less than $29 billion even though his oil revenues were closer to $110 per barrel while your oil revenue was barely $38 per barrel. Make una helep me thank God for OBJ. OBJ is a man we shall always remember. Baba, ose pupo.

It’s only people like you that talks good of obj. Obj is morally and spiritually bankrupt. This is a man that is not loved by his children, by Nigerians and African countries. Jonathan will be remembered on the good side of history than obj, the third term apostle.

      • Guguru

        Joe,

You managed to take a trip into OBJ’s heart to know he is morally and spiritually bankrupt. Does any normal person speak that way of others? I would rather hail a man who is not loved by his children than hail a man who allowed the human sacrifice of 15,000 people at the hands of the Boko Haram, who they actually sponsored. This is a very easy choice for me eventhough i see how you struggle with such a choice since your man was booted out of Aso Rock, which probably caused your man to stop paying your salary as an e-rat, right?

President Jonathan shows far more maturity in crisis situation than Olusegun Obasanjo.
The last person Nigeria needs at this time is one with Obasanjo’s crude militant mentality.
It would be a good thing if providence gives President Jonathan another bite at the apple.

President Barack Obama’s decision to provide undeclared backing to the All Progressives Congress (“APC”) and General Buhari, violated a long-time American convention of non-interference in the elections of other sovereign nations.

The series of patronizing actions, sponsored by the White House, culminated in a joint statement on March 30th 2015 by the American Secretary of State Mr. John Kerry and British Foreign Secretary Mr. Philip Hammond, alleging that the election results “may be subject to deliberate political interference”.

This broadside was released when the vote collation was still ongoing, thereby casting undue aspersion not only on the entire electoral process and the almost thirty million voters who participated in it, but indeed the nation itself.

This was the second unsolicited and unwarranted diatribe by the American and British pair, the first being the denigrating joint missive authored by the same duo on March 21st 2015, precisely seven days prior to the election.

The said election has already occurred, but the repercussions from the historic event shall continue to generate reactions for many days, weeks, months, years and perhaps for all time–Is this what Africa should be proud of—Obj?

  • shuby

    Dear General Buhari:

I fear you may not be getting good advice from the APC supporters surrounding you.
Here’s some good advice. There are three conditions to become President of Nigeria.
Those three conditions MUST be met before anyone can be cleared and sworn in.
Just winning a poll by highest number of votes does NOT make anyone a President.

    • You must be a Nigerian citizen; adult, aged over 40 years and sponsored by a party.
    • You must win the highest number of votes at an election + 25% of votes in 24 states.
    • You must NOT have committed a dis-qualifying offence which nullifies all your votes.

Today, you have met the first and second conditions but have NOT meet the 3rd condition.
That third overriding condition is specifically stated in the 1999 Constitution as follows:

    • “A person shall not be qualified for
election to the office of President if he has
presented a forged certificate to the Independent
    National Electoral Commission”.

    …….Section 137 (1) 1999 Constitution of Nigeria

Without showing the WASC you swore on oath you have in your submission to INEC,
you cannot be legally sworn in on 29th May 2015 without meeting this 3rd condition.

  • TAWANDA INCOMMUNICADO

A restless, greedy, bitter, vindictive and shameless old man !! Jonathan bowed out gracefully but Obasanjo was disdainfully hounded out as he selfishly sought an unconstitutional 3rd term. Jonathan has left the legacy of holding the most credible election in our history and laying the foundation for a future stable democracy but Obasanjo in his do-or-die manner organised shameful charades and imposed questionable characters on Nigerians in the name of elections.

    • Colonel Mariama(rtd)

How is that possible and why did Jonathan see it fit to allow over 15,000 people to die first before he would act? Did he wait for his uncle who was kidnapped last year, to die in the hands of kidnappers first before he sprung to action to rescue his uncle?

Service [SSS], cleared a former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu
Sheriff, of any link to the extremist Boko Haram sect, PREMIUM TIMES has
obtained a video suggesting that President Goodluck Jonathan is
personally aware and strongly convinced of the former’s governor’s
longstanding relationship with the founder of the sect.

In the video clip, shot in April 2013 during a visit he made to Borno

    An Igbo socio-cultural group, Ndigbo
Unity Forum, has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of failing in his
promises to the people of the South-East.

In a communiqué issued after an emergency
meeting in Awka, Anambra State, on Wednesday, the NUF said it was
passing a vote of no confidence on the President, having become
satisfied that he did not have the interest of the Igbo at heart.

The communiqué was signed by the NUF’s President, Mr. Augustine Chukwudum, and the Secretary General, Mr. Chinedu Onyebuchi.

It read, “We unanimously agreed that
having failed to fulfil most of his electoral promises to South-East
region when compared to other geo-political regions in the country, that
it is now obvious that President Jonathan-led government does not
appreciate the support he got from the South-East

“During his campaign in Enugu on Friday,
January 9, 2015 President Jonathan told the people of South-East that he
has rehabilitated 2,000 kilometres of roads in South-East within the
    past four years.

“Ndigbo Unity Forum wishes to let our
people know that Mr. President lied. We hereby call on Mr. President to
tell us in any part of South-East where he has rehabilitated just 70
    kilometres of road.

“He promised to upgrade Enugu Airport to
international standard within 18 months in office if he is re-elected
for second term come Feb. 14, 2015. This is another plot to hoodwink
Ndigbo so that we continue to be political slaves.

    “The Onitsha seaport commissioned on
August 30, 2012 amidst fanfare by President Jonathan is three years now
we are yet to see canoe not to talk of big ship there. The much touted
2nd Niger Bridge, which they say construction work has started, will
operate under a public-private partnership where even Igbo children yet
unborn will have to pay tolls unlike their fellow Nigerians from other
parts of the country that enjoy various bridges free of charge. Who is
    fooling who?”

On three previous occasions 2003,2007 and 2011 Buhari contested for the presidency of these country and was rejected by the southern electorates including our SW brothers. Most noteworthy was the number of votes he got in 2003 in the sw when he contested against obasanjo. My question now is why did the sw people reject Buhari in 2003 when the had the very opportunity of ‘ending’ corruption in 2003?If they know Buhari had all the qualities they now ascribe to him why then did they reject him for a corruption personified obasanjo?

it several times during the World Economic Forum and I was so

“Initial efforts by the international community to assist Nigeria in
searching for the over 200 schoolgirls abducted last month in Borno
State were rebuffed by the federal government, according to reports
    yesterday.

The British Foreign Office said the United Kingdom offered help soon
after the mass abduction, while the U.S. said its embassy and staff
agencies offered help “from day one” of the crisis, according to
    Secretary of State John Kerry.

It was only last week, three weeks after the Boko Haram raid of the
Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, that President
Goodluck Jonathan accepted the offers, one in a series of missteps that
have led to growing international outrage against the government.

The federal authorities and the military high command were said to be
initially uncomfortable with allowing foreigners run the show in the
    rescue operation.

The U.S., Britain, France and China are in the lead in providing mainly technical assistance in locating the girls.

However, President Goodluck Jonathan said yesterday that up to 20
countries and international agencies have indicated interest in
    searching for the girls.

These according to him include Spain, Israel, several African
countries, particularly neighbouring Chad, Cameroun, Niger Republic and
Benin Republic as well as the International Criminal Police Organisation
    (Inerpol).

The President spoke at Oporoza in Warri South West Local Government
Area of Delta State, where he had gone to perform the groundbreaking
of the NIMASA Shipyard and Dockyard and the Nigeria Maritime University
    in Okerenkoko.

“I’ve just had a communication with the president of Interpol (and)
they are ready to key in with the Nigerian government to search the
whole world. Wherever these girls are, we must get them,” he said.

He warned crime gangs and others who might be interested in trading
in the girls to keep off, insisting that there would be no hiding place
for whoever got involved in the heinous crime.

The Boko Haram leader, Ahmed Shekau, had threatened in a video message last week to sell off the girls.

Jonathan added: “Luckily, the international community is angry with
the whole thing. We have support from other countries and we promise the
world that we will get these girls out.

“I am very pleased with the support from the US, UK, China, France,
Israel, Spain and others and the cooperation we are getting from
neighbouring countries: Cameroon, Niger, Chad, Benin, Central Africa
    Republic and North African countries.

“We are totally committed; we will make sure that we get the girls out wherever they keep them.”

The president reaffirmed his conviction that the girls are still in Nigeria possibly in Simbisa forest in Borno State.

He said:”The story that they (Boko Haram) have sold them (the girls)
is not true. You cannot buy any of those girls because where you are in
the world, no sane person will attempt to go and keep these girls.”

He appealed to Nigerians to give peace a chance with a view to ensuring widespread development in the county.

He said, “Everybody wants development, but you cannot get it in a circumstance where there is crisis.

“The last time I visited here (Gbaramatu) to see the people after the
troubles before Amnesty, nobody smiled. I could not smile and these
same people I have come to see now could smile.

“Today, we have come to open a Marine University and everyone is
smiling and happy. Without peace, the atmosphere would not have
supported this. Nobody would have thought of this. So I thank the
Gbaramatu people, those of a Niger Delta for embracing peace to create
    the enabling environment.”

Government, according to him, is impressed with the level of peace
in the Niger Delta region, although he acknowledged that criminal
elements still abound in the area.

Speaking on the Maritime University and NIMASA shipyard and dockyard
projects, the president revealed that it is part of an overall plan to
create employment and reduce the pool of jobless youths available for
    crime in the area.

He said government’s target is to make the maritime sector contribute between 30 and 40percent of the nation’s GDP.

In deference to the mood of the nation caused by the abduction of the
Chibok girls, the President cancelled the traditional dancing and
wrestling (ogele) which were part of the programme to welcome him to the
    state.”

Dr Mohammed who was speaking recently with newsmen about issues in the country could not help but make it clear that he believes the Igbos constitute a problem in the country and he challenged anyone who disagrees with him to “go to hell”

“The order for my arrest came directly from the Director of Operations, an Igbo man. Apparently, he does not like anyone who says anything uncomplimentary about Igbo people and their greed. I think he was particularly very unhappy because I said Igbo have taken charge of the economy and that they have also grabbed most of the land especially for estates in Abuja where they don’t have any historical claims or any other logical claim to even one square foot of land,” he said.

“The Presidency will next year spend
N2.466bn on the foreign and local trips of President Goodluck Jonathan
    and Vice-President Namadi Sambo.

Jonathan alone will spend N2.4bn on travels and transport while Sambo will spend N67m.

These are contained in the details of the
2014 Appropriation Bill presented to the National Assembly last week by
the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on behalf of the
    President.

A further breakdown of the sum shows that Jonathan will spend N1.159bn on international travels and transport

while he will spend N1.219bn on local travel, and transport.

On his part, Sambo will spend about N29m on local travels and transport and N39m on international travel, and transport.

These figures are apart from the N239.8m
(N124m for foreign and N115m for local) that is budgeted for travels and
transport for the State House itself.

In 2012, N684.74m was budgeted for Jonathan’s foreign travels while N1.289bn was earmarked for the same purpose in 2013.

A sharp increase was observed in the sum
budgeted for the President’s trips notwithstanding the promise he made
on the heels of the protest that trailed the fuel subsidy removal in
2012 that his foreign trips would be reduced drastically.

“I have directed that overseas travels by
all political office-holders, including the President, should be
reduced to the barest minimum. The size of delegations on foreign trips
will also be drastically reduced; only trips that are absolutely
necessary will be approved,” the President had said.

Apart from the travel costs, a total of
N483.279m was also budgeted for the maintenance of motor
vehicles/transport equipment in the President’s office.

While Jonathan will spend N426.493m on
publicity and advertisements under miscellaneous subhead, N56.786m will
be spent on the President’s medical expenses.

Sambo will be spending N80m on office stationery.

While he will also spend N23.9m on foodstuffs/catering material supplies, his refreshment and meals will gulp N10.8m.

Although, the cost of the President’s
meal was not clearly stated, N162.5m was allocated to refreshment and
    meals for the State House.

N122.9m was allocated to fuel and
    lubricant. Under this category, plant/generator fuel cost gets N33.5m;
cooking gas/fuel cost gets N9.4m and motor vehicle fuel cost gets
    N79.9m.

    Honorarium and sitting allowance will
gulp N320m, medical expenses -N29.4m; postage and courier service
-N4.6m; welfare package -N267.8m; subscription to professional bodies
    -N2.1m and sporting activities -N15m.

In all, the Presidency’s total allocation
    under the 2014 budget is N33bn consisting of N12.8bn personnel cost;
N12.2bn overheads; and N8.9bn capital cost.”

“The Federal Government has come out in staunch defence of President
Goodluck Jonathan for attending and indeed dancing at a politically
rally while Nigerians mourned victims of the Monday morning Abuja bomb
    explosion.

At least 75 people died and over 100 injured when a bomb exploded in a
crowded park in Nyanya, Abuja on Monday, with witnesses saying the
casualty was much more than the official figures.

A day after the Nyanya bomb blast, Mr. Jonathan went to Kano State
for a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, politically rally. The president
danced as he and hundreds of the party’s supporters welcomed Ibrahim
Shekarau, a former governor of the state, to the PDP. This led to

“My Campaign Promises Can Be Changed”. – Buhari.

**our promises of Change and APC manifesto, are not Quran or Bible, they are subject to change to meet reality.

The President-elect Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has shocked Nigerians when he announced that the promises that the All Progressives Congress, APC, made during the nationwide presidential campaign which were contained in the Party’s manifesto were not words from the Quran or Bible, adding that the pledges are subject to change.

Buhari who stated this during an interactive session with journalists on Television Continental, TVC reiterated that the party’s manifestos were subject to modification, as they are only made for election purposes only.

The Buhari-led APC had promised fundamental political reforms and improvement in governance, more transparency and accountability.
The party also promised to urgently secure the territorial integrity of the Nation. It said it will never leave the defense of the nation in the hands of hunters, children, and civilian JTF.
The APC presidential candidate had also said that he would ensure that the Naira was equal to the Dollar in value, if elected president.
During the interview Buhari emphasized that on ministerial appointment, the party has a great role to play.
“I would ask Nigerian political observers to study our manifesto; it is not a Bible or Quran which you can’t change to meet reality.
“Our manifesto was made by very experienced Nigerians but it’s subject to modification. DID BUHARI AND OBJ EMBARK ON SUCH A TRIP–FOR A RE–UNION WHEN THEY WERE SACKED

Baba Obasanjo , I doff my hat for the magnanimous role you played in bringing Jonathan’s providential train to a stop without crashing the Nigeria Project.Sir , you have done something which your detractors can never deny. You have for the first time in History of Nigeria been instrumental in getting a relatively unknown minority member to the seat of Presidency ; Mr Jonathan Goodluck. Like an Ex President u did not kept quite when he was derailing , you wrote him 21 page letter , rather than listen, his attack dogs were attacking you. The same attack dogs have deserted him and hiding their face in the forest. Now you are having the last laugh.
We your admirers are happier with the way you handled the past few months , though you are not a perfect man ,nobody can deny you the role you have played in Nigeria from the day you took the surrender from Phillip Effiong after the civil war till today because your indelible role is well documented .
May the Almighty God grant you more years ahead .

    • Guguru

      Amen! Amen! Amen!

I am not Obasanjo’ s and the people of Nigeria made a decision on the election day because of what we want. Any analogy from you and those phony supporters is irrelevant. Please stop claiming credits. Even if president Obasanjo backed President Jonathan, he would still loose the election because of the insistence of the northern leaders to rule us this time. I wish President Jonathan the best and the happiness from both African and world leaders is a reflection of the peaceful hand over and acceptance of the results by President Jonathan.

      • SAM .A

Your brain and your memory has failed u.Pa Obasanjo followed Jonathan round campaning for him in 2011, where were you then? He was a strong supporter of GEJ then. Can you explain to readers here why Jona was desperate to secure Pa OBJ’S endorsement, why sending almost every body in his Government to him.
if dementia has not eaten all your brain cells , can you tell us the purpose of Pa OBJ,Pst Enoch Adeboye of Redeem, Bishop David Oyedepo’s meeting at OTTA.
You want to disguise here that u voted for Buhari , we know you people here , u are a jonathanian.
Whatever you write here has no effect on EX President Obasanjo. he has already made history, he is now becoming a citizen of the World . your hatred for him is a killer that is destroying your heart.

      • Baba Favour

Even if he had backed Jonathan, the president would not have won, abi? And how would you know that? You said “because of the insistence of the northern leaders to rule us this time”? So did the North support Jonathan to even contest the PDP primaries in 2011? So how come that it is now that they gave him express ticket to run in 2015 that he lost? And did you not hear how Obasanjo went round northern leaders in 2011, practically cajoling them to support Jonathan in 2011?
Your logic indeed is a very ridiculous one. We know your type.

        • Paului

There is a difference between 2011 and now. Why are you finding it difficult to believe that it would have been difficult to win this election because of the northern support especially the defecting governors. What actually is the logic here . Let’s move on and pray for Nigeria.

          • Julius

Dont you think that those governors would have stayed in PDP if OBJ has stayed as well ? Why do you think that those governors all went to see him before the left PDP.?. Think. Those say Northern support with OBJ help made Jonathan the president in the 1st place.

        • Julius

Thats how biafrans thinks. Their hatred for OBJ knows no bound even with all he has done for them. Thats losers traits….it shows everywhere. Watch the response.

          • Garden-City Boy

Lets be frank here, just for one moment. If you were Biafran (to use your own words), would you love the people who wanted you exterminated and went ahead to cause the death of 3million of your people ina a state engineered policy genocide? Would you? Would you go into a bear-hug with any of the butchers, such as Obasajo, who participated in the slaughter? That is just a simple, straightforward question I would want you to answer.

The problem we have is this conspiracy against and the inveterate hate for Igbo people. You don’t do that to a people and expect their love in return. For me, I think that these Igbo people we vilify are the most large-hearted, forgiven people on the planet. They want to put all what we did to them behind and forge a new life in the interest of building a united society, but we keep poking our stubby fingers into their eyes. We must beware what we wish for; we soon might get it. You don’t push your rotten luck too far.

          • Julius

I will answer your question. No, If I were a biafran < I will not tolerate anybody that tried to exterminate me , and my people as you well stated. Now let me ask you a question. If the Hausa military officers went around exterminating Ibos officers, would you love the Hausas or the Yorubas for that matter, for doing that ?. The problem with you folks is you love history in the middle that makes you look innocent but, not from the beginning . You started some bullshit but when others respond you claim conspiracy . Learn to take responsibility for your actions. We all know how thew history begins, dont we ?. I dont know of any war where the opposite soldiers hold hands and sing kumbaya. Do you ?. Now its genocide when your asses was totally spanked and kicked. push luck too far ? always a threat, stop the nonsense. You havent , cant and wont do shit.

    Editor Premium Times,

Train Ride to Antwerp: ‘Your President is utterly ambivalent’

I joined the train in Brussels yesterday en route Antwerp. Next to me was a European Union official.
No sooner we sat by one another than we got talking about Africa before discussing Nigeria, shortly.
“Folks say you have a timid coward of a president there, but that’s not how we see him here, really,”
the EU official said with a wry smile. “You simply have an ambivalent president who can’t take a decision.”
“He does not even try to be clever,” he added. “He just kicks the can all the way down the road.”

I got off the train in the olden Antwerp station and wondered how President Jonathan created such impression.
“He is too tentative and unable to take a decision,” the EU official had told me. So if he is not timid, why?
I asked myself. There was no easy answer. I thought perhaps that’s how he is wired. Oh, but then i remember.
    He’s once again at crossroads.

    • oliha

…………..(2) Train Ride to Antwerp: ‘Your President is utterly ambivalent’

The rival ACN party (now merged as APC) took no fewer than four governorship seats back from
President Jonathan’s PDP party in the 2007 election, despite that the PDP polled more declared votes.
All the ACN did was use the law to flag violations by President Jonathan’s PDP party. But now that the
tables are turned; and with 100% CONCLUSIVE evidence of perjury as a disqualifying offence committed
      by the rival APC presidential candidate (Mr. Buhari – in this 2015 election) now in the public domain;
President Jonathan shows the world he simply does not have the mental ability to uphold the law of Nigeria.

After sullying his global image by that stance, Jonathan projects himself as one who’s readying to run away
than do what the Constitution of his country said he must do. That is why Jonathan ends up irritating people.
He thinks he needs courage just to say good morning. “Jonathan is a baby girl,” a humorist once said.
The job at hand is routine: just uphold the Constitution of your country. He can’t do it; yet, but does dramatics.
Muhammadu Buhari’s perjury was exposed since December 2014. Jonathan did not deal with it right then.

WAEC then issued a letter on 28th January 2015 – as conclusive proof that Buhari lied on oath claiming to
have taken WASC exam and obtained a Wasc certificate in 1961. Jonathan, again, took no step to bring
Buhari to justice. The effect of Jonathan’s laxity is that whilst he fumbled the matter, Buhari crookedly went
ahead to participate in the election two months later, on March 28th – an election Buhari is constitutionally prohibited from taking part in.That intervening fact put Jonathan on the horns of a dilemma. Because rather
than deal with a mere skin cut Buhari presented in December 2014, a tetanus case festered, due solely to Jonathan’s chronic indecision.

        @gejtheclueless:disqus

I don’t think Jonathan will be a free man in 2019. He will likely be in prison.
He seems to be committing the worst offence: felony of treason for that
is what it is equivalent to; when a head of state irresponsibly closes his eyes to
the Constitution of his country, as alibi, to then violate it, deliberately, by handing
over power to a criminal in violation of Section 137 (j) of the 1999 Constitution.

That is why someone wrote here earlier today that he too began
to see Jonathan as “…someone who can sell human beings for
money because he does not care how his speech, acts and
    omissions affect others
“. In other words he’s not seen as
empathetic of the poor Nigerians totalling 90%.

    • lone ranger

Oliha: Buhari is disqualified under Section 137 (j) of the 1999 Constitution + under Section 31
of Nigeria’s Electoral Act 2010 as amended. Buhari himself knows he is disqualified. Were General Buhari
the President today, and Jonathan in Buhari’s shoes as a challenger, Buhari would have disqualified Jonathan
long ago, correctly, and without any long talk. But Jonathan goes on merry-go-round, hoping he can convince anyone that he is thinking.

Let President say it now or forever shut up: did any foreign country, including America, ask him to
violate Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution and smooth the way for Buhari as an illegal president; yes or no?

      • kukute

If President Goodluck Jonathan is scared, let him send a bill for an Act to National Assembly.

He can call it A BILL FOR AN ACT TO NULLIFY NIGERIA’S 1999 CONSTITUTION IN ENTIRETY.

That will save him all this disgrace. If there is no Constitution, there’s nothing for him to enforce.

“It is only in Nigeria that the man who, as Head of State, allowed 56 illegal suitcases of currency notes into the country through his ADC unchecked when there was currency change by his own government in the country at the time would be described as a man of his words. “It is only in Nigeria that the man who enacted RETROACTIVE DECREES and used them to murder Lawal Ojuolape, Bartholomew Owoh and Bernard Ogedengbe would be promoted as being better than others.

“It is only in Nigeria that the man who enacted vindictive decrees which prescribed long jail terms for journalists for publishing stories which embarrassed government officials EVEN IF THE STORIES WERE TRUE resulting in the illegal jailing of Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabor is now better than the President Jonathan who has signed the FOI bill into law to enable all citizens to have unhindered access to information on Government activities.

**”It is only in Nigeria that a former Head of State would ask Muslims not to vote for Christians and, when he is criticised, would later lie on Radio Nigeria, Kaduna, that what he meant was that Muslims should vote for only those who can protect their religion.

“It is only in Nigeria that a former Head of State would refuse to condemn Boko Haram murderers in their evil activities including bombing innocent Christian worshippers in churches but is quick to support amnesty for the same murderers.
**”It is only in Nigeria that a former Head of State will speak bitterly against a State of Emergency designed to root out monstrous criminals but turns around to advocate finishing off Ombatse cult members who have done exactly the same thing as Boko Haram.
**”It is only in Nigeria that a former Head of State CANNOT speak or write simple and correct English and prefers to speak vernacular most of the time and then his supporters would insist that his meaning was lost in translation.

Have you guys ever understood Buhari when he speaks? “When this mad bigot overthrew Shehu Shagari in January 1984, he, out of crude tribalism, placed President Shagari (who, according to late Olusola Saraki, presided over most of the shady NPN deals under his watch) under mere house arrest but clamped Vice President Ekwueme (who the tribunals later said was squeaky clean) into Kirikiri like a common criminal.
“Not done with this naked tribalism, Muhammadu Buhari sent soldiers to ransack Obafemi Awolowo’s residence in Ikenne and harass his household even though Awolowo was not a member of the government that was toppled. “And for your information, the only reason why Muhammadu Buhari toppled Shagari’s government in 1984 was that the then Federal Executive Council under Shagari had just traced the missing N2.8billion to Buhari’s foreign account and had just set up a panel to probe and recover the loot. “Believe me, any objective, dispassionate analysis of Buhari’s activities must surely come to one conclusion and one conclusion only, namely: The only set of people whose IQ is lower than that of Muhammadu Buhari are his supporters. –

I thought we are moving forward in this country but to my greatest surprise is that most of the commentators here are either half educated or elitrate. If one knows the Constitution or the law better he should just do GEJ favour by taking this certificate saga to court rather than talking rubbish in the media for the sake of having Tokumbo laptop. GEJ is history in Nigeria now, gone forever and there is nothing one can do about it. So swallow your angers or hug transformer simple. OBJ is right.

IS THE 1999 CONSTITUTION ILLITERATE TOO? IF IT IS NOT READ AS FOLLOWS:

      • The Federal Republic of Nigeria shall not be governed, nor shall any person or group
of persons take control of the Government of Nigeria or any part thereof, except in
accordance with the provisions of this Constitution…and a person shall not be qualified

    Editor Sir:

Please allow me to make a public appeal to Buhari. He is an ex head of state.
Buhari should respect himself. There is no single respect in his getting messed
up in this 1961 WASC fraud. He is a grandfather. He is supposed to have shame.

I can’t imagine my grandfather involved in WASC fraud. Buhari is 72 years’ old.

It’s better for him to have a good name than a top office position with no dignity.

Buhari won the popular votes in the election but failed ‘constitutional eligibility’ test
by giving false and un-provable WASC/Cambridge certificate in sworn recitation by
certificate of affidavit to INEC, contrary to Section 137 [1] of the 1999 Constitution
of Nigeria. The penalty stipulated in the constitution for this offence is: ‘dis-qualification’.

VOTING IS DEMOCRACY; AND, ELIGIBILITY IS THE RULE OF LAW.
BOTH MUST BE PRESENT BEFORE ANYONE QUALIFIES TO BE
SWORN IN AS THE PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA. DEMOCRACY AND
THE RULE OF LAW ARE TIED AND INSEPARABLE FROM ONE
ANOTHER. THEREFORE, THE KEY QUESTION TO ASK NOW IS:

        dummy case has been dismissed

Prove it. Aren’t you people tired? Anyway, there is nothing you can do about it now. Majority of Nigerians want him. This is just BILE

THEREFORE IF HE HAS SHAME AND WANTS PUBLIC RESPECT,

Mr. Obasanjo, you are still bent on removing the speck from another person’s eye while the log in yours is there? Come clean about your own 8 years as president and tell us about the third term agenda. Was it true or false? Nigerians will forgive you, if you confess. Given the world lectures so we forget your past is mischievous.

    • Bankole Martins

People never remove the speck in their own eyes. As far as Obasanjo is concerned, there has NEVER been any third term agenda. Nigerian were only dreaming

I Will Bring Back Groundnut Pyramid – Buhari.

Nigerian President elect Muhammadu Buhari has promised again that he will bring the groundnut pyramids that died in the 1960s back to Northern Nigeria.
According to him, I will make groundnut oil one of our main forex revenue earner to be shared monthly like the Oil.
    *************************************************************
In 2015 and 21st century, when Nations or advanced world are thinking of inventions and technological breakthroughs in various fields of human endevour, Buhari is talking of the groundnut pyramids.
Are you going backward or forward in Life. Why not tell the Egyptians to keep building Pyramids for Pharaohs.

For those that think backwards also, investing in Groundnut is not bad, but should be a private sector initiative, driven by a sound fiscal policy. Even LGAs should not be involved in ground cultivation at this age, but will only help the local investors in terns of technical support and refundable loans or grants. Federal government coming in here is shocking. This is not 1960, even in the 1960s, it was never a Federal venture.

    • New Nigerian

…Your suggested ways and means of bringing back the groundnut pyramid is why you are having problems with it. It should be a private sector initiative with government providing the enabling environment, It must be the enabling environment to be provided that Buhari was referring to – review APC’s policy of focus on micro farming initiatives and you can see how they plan to go about it….

  • Alice Anitche

Obasanjo has no regard nor respect for his country, where he was once a president. A true Nigerian tearing a Party Voting Card on national television shows the lack of integrity and irresponsibility. The whole world is wondering, what legacy is this ex – President leaving for those coming behind him? Tearing any political voter’s card ,especiallly on public television, is as the same as tearing the Nigerian Flag for the World to see.
The honorable Ex President should humble himself and apologize to the proud indiginous people of this great Nation, our children and those yet to be born.

    • bankole

No. You cannot equate the voters’ card, party membership cards to the FLAG. They are not in the same category please

How many Nigerians has made it? how many could not make it?

Now that GEJ has enough shoes and bag. he can open a shop and start selling as one of investor so that he can employ a lot of IJAW people who have no job. LOL.

    God bless Nigeria.
