We will bounce back to power in 2019 — PDP

PDP Chairman, Adamu Muazu

The Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday expressed confidence that it would effectively dislodge the All Progressives Party from power in four years time and reestabilsh its dominance in the nation’s political horizon.

Olisa Metuh, the party`s National Publicity Secretary, stated this while speaking with journalists at the end of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting.

The meeting was the first after it lost the presidential election to the APC.

He reassured PDP members across the country that the NWC had put machinery in place to re-engineer and re-focus the party, in keeping with the collective determination to consolidate its support base in states of the federation.

Mr. Metuh said this was with a view to regaining power at the centre in 2019 “since it is obvious that the APC lacks what it takes to effectively lead the nation’’.

The party also alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was trying to destabilise it by planting moles within its fold.

“We have noted that while some members have left our party, others have been asked to remain to cause disaffection and disharmony to destroy the spirit of unity in the party,’’ Mr. Metuh said.

He said the NWC noted some divisive statements by certain elements within the party, who were being enticed by extraneous factors and other parties to cause disharmony in its ranks.

Mr. Metuh cautioned against such comments and urged party members with genuine grievances to direct such through the appropriate channels within the party in line with the provisions of its Constitution.

He said following the party’s perceived poor performance at the just-concluded elections; it would meet with its governors and senators-elect on April 21.

Mr. Metuh said the party`s leadership would also meet with its members elected into the House of Representatives on April 22.

He said the party`s state and zonal chairmen had been directed to come to the meeting with “list of irregularities in the conduct of the elections in their areas”.

Mr. Metuh said this was to enable the party have a holistic view of what transpired during the elections and for it to come up with its final decision on its conduct.

He said the NWC reviewed certain developments arising from the 2015 general elections and resolved to resist any attempt to subvert the people’s will.

The spokesman added that the NWC also resolved to resist any attempts to tamper with the democratic process with the aim of denying its candidates their well-deserved victory at the polls.

He called on INEC and security forces to ensure that the elections in states where it was declared inconclusive were free, fair and credible.

The PDP spokesman said that every effort must be made to resist the intimidation and blackmail by the opposition aimed at manipulating the process in its favour.

He urged the party members, particularly those in states where elections had been rescheduled or declared inconclusive, not to despair, but remain focused.

Mr. Metuh said the NWC would continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them until the party`s deserved victory was achieved.

He said the PDP had already received reports from Nasarawa State on results from a ward collation center in Karu Local Government Area.

Mr. Metuh alleged that in Karu, the PDP senatorial candidate was leading with about 8,000 but the votes were cancelled by INEC.

He said INEC cancelled the result on the ground that the Collation Officer was unable to reconcile the figures from the ward.

Mr. Metuh alleged that instead of ordering the collation officer to properly reconcile and re-present the figures, INEC reversed the 6,000 votes polled by the PDP candidate by hurriedly declaring the APC candidate winner with about 2,000 votes.

This, according to him was in clear violation of the Electoral Act which did not provide for cancellation of results based on unreconciled figures at the collation level.

  • musa aliyu

Metuh, pay your staff salaries first. Know that as long as we the masses are alive, we will not vote you again, even if you change name into Zdp.

    • sam

Lets give APC / Buari 4 years.if they do the country well, then they will be re-elected. If they fail woefully like Jonathan. They Muazu and pdp may have a chance.

    • newnigerian1970

      LOL!!

  • Hamzasiraj

Metuh is deluded. And it appears he is yet to come to terms with the fact that power has slipped away from PDP…. Ewu !

  • Maitama Tambari

Olisa Metuh is in denial that PDP is gone for along time break which if care is not taken leading to its demise. Just like President JONATHAN denial of rotational zoning in 2011 which led to the fall of the biggest party in Africa, Olisa Metuh’s denial will lead to PDP demise because a party is not personal property of a group of people but belongs to all which APC realized and used the power of people to send PDP parking. APC will be in power for sixteen years before PDP or its replacement capture power again. As PDP is at the moment, it is a non survival.

    • FactsandFigures

Sometimes I wonder if PDP has a strategy at all when I
listen to their utterances. They should stop giving a date for when they expect
to be in power. The current Nigerian
political electorate is very savvy especially with the increasing use of
technology and must not be taken for granted. They have found their voice and
they intend to use it. Does PDP have a chance in 2019? They do. They may not be
able to recover the position at the top (except if APC fails woefully) however
they could recover some of their lost grounds or at least consolidate what they
have at the moment and build from there.
The following strategies will not be amiss:

      Newly elected PDP senators/governors/LG
chairmen/councillors’ etcetera need to work for their electorate and most
importantly must be seen as competent by the electorate.

      Transparent government
expenditures open to review by the elected representatives and electorate
alike. The issue of corruption is still big and any elected officer that shows
an inkling of good fiscal/economic management will win votes.

Use the media effectively to criticise
in coming governments’ successes or failures thereof. Armchair criticism is often effective since
the onus is on the incumbent to counteract.
Unnecessary propaganda, however, does more harm than good since the
electorate can read between the lines. Literally keep the incoming government
feet on fire by constantly measuring their election promises against policies
      etc.

Bide their time. Any elected government is bound to fail at
some point but PDP needs to be positioned to take advantage when it happens (assuming
they do not disintegrate form self-inflicted wounds)

On another note, I see a vacuum
in the current political dispensation – Nigeria appears to be in the grip of
the same political elite regardless of their stripes. Any competent person/group-
who can form a party with deep
grassroots element; have policies near and dear to the average Nigerian; does
not appear to have “political godfathers”; mobilize the youth especial and probably up to the under 50 age group will be
a force to be reckoned with.

  • Ole

    Daydreaming!

  • Ken

Pdp will bounce back. Apc lacks what it takes to take Nigeria anywhere.

    • tundemash

That was how you f00led yourself until reality overtook your fantasy on you on March 28th.
You have started wild fantasy again …..do you ever learn ?

  • Ken

The story of karu is sad. Pdpd should go and reclaim its victory. How can one leading with 8000 now lose an election? It is sad. Apc will lose that seat soon.

  • Preco01

As long as PVCS and Card Readers are in place with all the recommendations of the Uwais Report on Electoral reform implemented plus an astute and independent INEC, PDP is dead. Methu is suffering from delusion of grandeur

Or unless they change that name PDP, there effort will be like that of lagos pdp.

With Muazu as the Chairman of PDP, there is not hope for the party even in 2099. U can never trust these Fulanis when it comes to party politics—-Because they have decided not to put all their rotten eggs in one basket. U find some in APC others in PDP–The South South is no longer interested in your REGIONAL party politics——The same satanic treatment the Fulanis and Yorubas dished out to Jonathan—-will be—issued out to anybody that rears his head from the SS——————————-The SS on their part should never make the mistake of sponsoring candidates for presidential elections again–The struggle should be for the emancipation of the oil producing states– in the Federation——————Aware the SS is one of the most hated—and discriminated against zone in Nigeria————————Freedom should be the goal of every governor—–from——— the SS—————if any thinks the Fulanis ati Yorubas will treat them differently from the way they handled Jonathan with the help of the USA———then they should go and CONSULT WITH the spirit of Ken SAROWIWA————DIKIBO——–MARSHAL –Harry———-Boro————–and David West the only oil minister to be sent to prison by the Fulanis—————sadly he has not yet learnt any lessons from his predicament—with the Fulanis –So still fooling himself like Amaechi with the Yoruba and fulani traitors-

Although your posts are hallucinations, I still read them, and I am becoming seriously worried for your welfare. Please speak to your pastor or elder relative about your feelings. I’m afraid we’re seeing signs of self-harm. Please see a doctor as well and talk to him/her in confidence or confide in your spouse. This is no longer normal. Your posts are so frequent that I wonder if you actually have an occupation or a family life. I honestly thought you were spam bot software. But you might be a real person, so please seek help. I don’t want to laugh at you but your rantings are now outside the norm of someone just complaining about politics.

  • sammyctu ode

metuh, since you came to the limelight, you have always been talking rubbish, day dreaming and your mouth is full of lies. APC did not wrestle power from your useless criminal party to go to sleep. APC will change all sectors of Nigeria positively and with GMB/OSIBAJO in charge, they will bring dynamism, pragmatic solutions and create sustainable condusive environment for all Nigerians. pdp is dead and dead forever because majority of you guys will be in jail for years to come.

  • Ahmad

For your info Mr. Metuh, PDP can only bounce backwards. Just take a look. From boasting to rule for 60years to being kicked out by Nigerians after 16 years of misrule. Seems you are yet to come to terms with reality.

    • Nif

please don’t say Nigerians, say northern Nigerians kicked PDP out of power

      • Mosaku 147

Well meaning Nigerians kicked PDP out of power. Are the 15,000 people who voted for buhari in Enugu or the 237,000 who voted in Edo northerners?

        • newnigerian1970

When you calculate the true vs rigged votes, you find that APC probably won SS & SE as well. Look at what happened in Rivers. Tribunals will give us the real figure. In my state Abia, anyone who wasn’t prepared to declare for PDP was chased away from PUs – it happened all over. Some known anti PDP areas had election materials thrown away, in some areas INEC officers disappeared, card readers were challenged by PDP people. It was a nightmare. I trust that by the grace of God, the truth about the number of people in SS & SE that went for change will come out.

      • tundemash

  • mutwadadi

so….the PDP is dead and buried, Nigeria still has only one political party, and somehow that is a good thing?

  • Spoken word

PDP is going to bounce to oblivion.

  • Tokpe Ayodele

I am not against APC, I am only against those so call members who do not know from left to right of politics. Politics is a game of mathematics, you calculate before making a move. PDP will only bounce back if it still has loyal members and only if APC messes up.

  • The Lucid One

“since it is obvious that the APC lacks what it takes to effectively lead the nation’’ -Mr Metuh

Mr Metuh, please endeavor to make statements like a properly educated fellow. Apc has not even recorded 100 days in office at the centre yet you can forsee that things will be worse than they are right now under PDP that has squandered 16 years to make a life changing positive impact to common nigerians. Instead, PDP rewards criminality, drug peddling, shoddy job interviews (immigration), militancy and total loss of moral standing. Until we have people that care about the masses to some extent in PDP, for now PDP is a cancer on nigeria that has been suppressed.

    Ade.

    • Mosaku 147

Don’t mind him.that was how himself and fat Doyin foresaw everything under the sun.from APC crumbling in less that a year to APC can not get a vice presidential candidate to Buhari will loose again to Jonathan is their gods anointed and must win 29states.now he is beginning to see what has not even started.

  • Joe

Most of Jonathan’s enemies were within pdp and Muazu was the leader of the traitors.

  • Gbadebo Pearce

APC change agenda looks like scam already

Nobody overseas sees any ray of CHANGE ahead of Nigeria – not a ray.
All they see is a change of power to northern Nigeria without further
zoning and rotation again. Muhamadu Buhari has begun confessing
that his CHANGE campaign was more a vote-buyer than anything else.
“People should not expect change immediately“, Buhari said yesterday.

And on the kidnapped Chibok girls, Buhari confesses borrowing the same
words of President Jonathan but now sounding less confident than Jonathan.
“We do not know if the Chibok girls can be rescued. Their whereabouts
    remain unknown
,” Buhari said in a statement. “As much as I wish to,
I cannot promise that we can find them”. Nigeria may just be on a roller coaster
    to nowhere as the APC CHANGE mantra unravels as mere empty rhetoric;
    signifying nothing.

    • Duduosun

      @Pearce:

It is NOT looking like a scam, it is a scam. APC scammed the people. For example, Buhari has been saying
his priority is the reconstruction of the Hausa/Fulani/Kanuri Fulani North. He wants to divert billions of Naira
to northern Nigeria under the guise of doing a post Boko Haram reconstruction program. When he does that
special funding program, there will be less money to grant to the people of southern Nigeria, since the budget
is a fixed amount of money. By the time the Yoruba wake up from slumber they will hate Bola Tinubu for this.
The Yoruba Muslims went into this nonsense alliance with a bad motive of succeeding to the presidency if
Buhari become incapacitated or unable to continue in office. The Yoruba Muslims then baited the Yoruba
Christians with a stand-in Christian as Vice President. But because Yoruba Christians don’t think properly,
they forget that the Islamist APC that put forward the Pastor can replace him at anytime.

      • Encore

Buhari submitted false credentials to the Electoral Commission (INEC), by reciting falsely
in sworn statement that he obtained Wasc/Cambridge certificate in 1961 without attaching
a copy of the certificate he claims to have obtained to his INEC Form in violation of the
Electoral Act and thereby violated both the Electoral Act and Section 137 [1] of the 1999
Constitution, prescribing a penalty of “dis-qualification”.

You better prepare for a long sleep as you are apparently dreaming. Are you sure there will be an entity called PDP by then afterall 2 years ago there was no APC? Corrupt INEC officials will not get near you and of course no more funds to loot and the ones you looted will have been almost spent. Also corrupt contractors can no longer invest in your election as your party has turned into a bad product

    • agaracha

Court trial of Muhammadu Buhari begins April 22nd

You were sued to court on 6th January for INTENTIONALLY telling lies on oath.
Because you can’t say you did not know you did not sit for WAEC exam in 1961.
You were sued for falsely asserting in INEC Form that you sat for and took the 1961
Cambridge/Wasc examination. You then quickly got five lawyers to defend you in court,
but without also quickly or even up till today ever attaching any copy of your claimed
WASC/Cambridge certificate, dated 1961, to the INEC Form.

What sort of crooked human being are you, Muhammadu Buhari?

What are you going to do in court on the 22nd of April, given that you have not up till today
filed ANY pleading in court since January 6th to repeat the nonsense you felt free to tout in
the newspapers without penalty of perjury – that the freshly handwritten rubbish fabricated
by the current Principal of Katsina College, and dated 2014, is the same thing as the 1961
WASC/Cambridge certificate you swore on oath that you have? Does the Katsina Provincial
College set and conduct Cambridge examination as a legally-authorized assessment body?
What sort of illiteracy is this you display? Or, you don’t know if you took the exam or not?

      • agaracha

……..(2) Trial of Muhammadu Buhari begins April 22nd

So, Buhari, what are you doing in court if you know you don’t have a defence for not having a
Wasc/Cambridge certificate dated 1961? Let me make an informed guess why you are still in
court despite your having no defence since 6th January. Your crooked type is commonplace
and known to bright lawyers. You are in court ONLY to slow, stall or halt proceedings from ever
getting to the point where you must make a confession that you lied with intent to STEAL
        the presidency of Nigeria.

That is the only plausible reason you are still in court without making any plea there of either having
Wasc certificate or not….just quiet. But your fraudulent plot to steal the presidency of Nigeria by guile
or stealth will not work. We the people will defend the 1999 Constitution to the letter.

What you plan to do is obvious: you want May 29th to arrive and then ask to be sworn in, without ever having to show any Wasc certificate to court, if any, and then, you’ll take refuge under the
‘Constitutional Immunity‘ of a sitting Head of Sate. But that will not happen. You MUST
answer for your misdeeds. One APC Presidential Committee member had long said you actually
don’t have any WASC because you were expelled from Secondary School before WASC exam.

So, what else are you going to say in court? Tell all Nigerians what you want to say!

Without making any confession or showing proof of Wasc in court, you believe that the 2.8 million more votes you had at the 28th March election can be ignited to move out your beloved mass illiterates to the
streets to fight and cancel the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria? Sorry O, Buhari, Yoruba people will never protest against a law written in the Constitution; which you knew of since the year 1999, but now want to
        violate with impunity.
