Explosions, gunshots disrupt APC rally in Patience Jonathan’s home town

A rally organised by the All Progressives Congress in Okirika, home to Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan, was disrupted twice on Wednesday.

The rally was first disrupted by triple bomb blasts which occurred a few minutes after the leadership and party faithful assembled at the Okirika National Secondary School field in the early hours of the day.

A source, who pleaded not to be named for security reasons, told PREMIUM TIMES that the rally had just got underway, when three bombs went off in quick succession in three different locations close to the venue of the programme.

“We had just started the rally when three bombs went off near the venue. There was a stampede as people fled in different directions to safety.

“Nobody knows who detonated the bombs but it was very close to the football field where the rally took place. Many people sustained injuries while trying to escape to safety.

Two hours after the initial disruption, the organizers rallied party faithful and supporters back to the venue of the rally and the programme was kicked off again.

Just as the speakers mounted the platform to address the rally, sporadic gunshots rented the air and the party members again took to their heels.

The party’s gubernatorial candidate, Dakuku Peterside, was fielding questions from a Channels Television reporter when the gunshots went off.

Both Mr. Peterside and the reporter took to their heels as armed mobile policemen fired back and tried to calm down frightened citizens.

While monitoring the rally, which was broadcast live on Channels Television, PREMIUM TIMES saw one old man with a walking stick struggling to escape to safety while the gunshots persisted.

The aged party supporter fell down but got up again and still ran away with the help of his walking stick.

The Channels Television cameras were left rolling while the cameramen scampered to safety in the nearby buildings.

A few minutes later, the television reporter, Charles Eruka, was shown taking cover somewhere in the school field while giving live updates on the crisis.

“We were at the National Secondary School when we heard series of explosions but when the crowd had the confidence to return because security agents had taken control of the situation,” Mr. Eruka said.

“But when the gunshots started, of course everybody took their heels. But we are still here trying to find out what is going on. We can’t see the shooters apart from armed security personnel. But we can hear gunfire in the background behind the buildings here.

“The security agents are trying to make sure that people are whisked to safety. Some of the things that were left behind at the VIP areas are also being carried away to safety. The security agents have secured those in the VIP stand while most of us are lying on the floor.”

The same Okrika, home of Mama Peace. Na wa o.

  • This is desperation par excellence.GEJ his brides and accolades should just approach OBJ, Shagari, Anyaoku, Adeboye and General Abubakar to help structure a deal with Buhari to refund all our stolen funds, should Buhari win the Presidential election, so that the exchange rate can improve at least back to N165 to the USD. The Nigerian masses must not suffer economically due to the fraudulent rascality of a few leaders. Trust Chief Anenih the greatest double agent. His luggage are already packed and ready for the US, using his usual health reasons, as an excuse.Even Bode George has already pledged to flee Nigeria if Buhari wins.
This is a very serious matter because GEJ and Diezani are presently desperate and afraid of the Kirikiri Presidential Suite Prison. This is further complicated by the fact that some politicians actually died during the Buhari-Idiagbon regime. The man Buhari is a very bad and hard man. Have you seen his old fist during his numerous campaigns.

We all need to help GEJ and his fraudulent lieutenants to save Nigeria. Buhari must be made to drop his hard stance for the survival of the Nigerian nation.. What we need is all our monies illegally acquired by the fraudulent politicians in both the PDP and even the APC if need be, so that the masses can breathe again. Let them return 80% of their loot while the balance should be left for them.

The report of the Forensic Accountants, will be justified by PWC as been limited by their terms of engagement. If truly the $20billion was not missing, why is Diezani delirious about the impending Buhari administration.

keep smoking hard drugs and talking trash. Buhari is the most corrupt person on earth right now because we now know he is a school drop out THAT ATTAINED THE RANK OF A GENERAL FRAUDULENTLY,that he committed perjury before INEC and claimed to borrow money to pay for form from banks while his wife can comfortably dash out 135million to IDPs in bornu and his children are all living in affluence abroad with the stolen money from PTF,Keep on fooling yourselves thinking anyone is being moved or hoodwinked by your lies.

APC in their desperate bid to hide the fact that the people of okrika refused to come out and attend their rally despite the 5k each on offer resorted to acting drama but Nigerians already know the party that is known for violence

When few days back, wild primitive APC zombies were seen burning PDP offices in Maiduguri and pulling down PDP billboards during APC rally, some scallywags here rationalised it saying ‘the boys want change’.
Now the tables seem to have been turned around(no one knows for certain if fifth-columnists in APC r responsible), the same online e-zombies are screaming blue murder!
I tire for these APC minions sha..one law for ‘Peter’…another for ‘Paul’.

    • Hassan Lawal

…and you think that was right? oooh! what kind of people are you, this GEJ supporters,am so ashamed we belong to this same country

      • Buhari_the_Certficate_FORGER

Hassan the boys want change in Rivers.

        • Baba Messi

You get the point bro..thats what they said while the boys were misbehaving in Maiduguri..

      • Baba Messi

Of course it’s not right! But while APC minions were busy stoning the president and burning PDP property, some of us said it was a bad omen which could end any way..since violence begets violence!

*for yur information, I am personally NOT Impressed with the current PDP regime..but that will not make me blind to the several inconsistencies in the contraption called APC!

  • SAM .A

Something is certain here ,it is absolutely impossible for Ameachi & Dakuku to disrupt their campaign with detonated bombs and gunshots. It is the paid agents , or militant wing of PDPigs that are trying to suppress their opponent. The voice is that of Esau , the hand is that of Jacob. He who lives by violence will perish by it. The wind of Change is greater than these Devilish Bomb makers & detonators , no doubt they will be consumed by their plot , they will never see the next dispensation after March 29th.

This is clearly the APC miscreants trying as much as they can to play the “victims” by disruption of their own rally dramatically. They want to buy sympathy albeit through violence but Nigerians know better.

I like your thread bro !!

      • SAM .A

This is not Bauchi ,where intra party squabble has meta morphed into a conspiracy of throwing stones and water at the President. The APC party in Rivers is one united front. Like I said Wike & his Sister are the piper blowing the wind of this ugly violence. The truth will come out soon. Thank u for your mature response.

      • Uzoma John

You are finished. No atom of truth is in you as a human being. Fani Kayode’s incarnates. All of you spewing rubbish on every online platforms. Nwa ogwugwu oge. Devil’s advocate. Don’t worry. All of you will go on exile come March 29. You can see some of your financiers are getting ready to runaway. All these nonsense will stop. We must have a Nigeria of our dream, not this present one ruled by criminals.

It is one of 2 things. Either somebody who supports PDP wants to impress the party or somebody in APC wants to embarrass somebody in PDP

It’s time to send Dumbo and Umblelah back to their cave in otuoke, where they rightly belong. There is no room for this kind of crude behavior in any aspiring civilized society. MarchForBuhari!

I thought premium times always reports what soyinka says. Now he called premium times candidate buhari evil, it did not make news.

Wole Soyinka Says Muhammadu Buhari Is The Most Brutal Dictator After Abacha

Wole Soyinka, a professor and Nobel Laureate, has described Muhammadu Buhari, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the most brutal face of military dictatorship after Sani Abacha.

The professor, who spoke to the BBC World, suggested that Nigerians are in a serious dilemma with lack of alternative.

When asked about his comments about the general as a brutal devil, Soyinka said he did not exactly call him the devil, but a brutal dictator.

“I didn’t exactly call him a devil, but of course I talked about dinning with the devil with a very long spoon, but he (Buhari), I didn’t even want to dine with him at all,” he said.

“After Abacha, he represented the most brutal face of military dictatorship, there’s no question at all about that.

“I’ve got to the point whereby I look at the possibility of a genuine internal transformation with some individuals. I have been disappointed before, and we must always be ready to be disappointed again.”

Speaking about deepening democracy in Nigeria, the 80-year-old said: “There are many, many actions, especially by the government in power which I won’t say are exactly democratic. Let’s have a fair war, it’s not yet deep enough.”

He went on to speak about the abducted Chibok girls, branding insurgency in the north-east a failure of leadership by Jonathan and his predecessors. “What happened was a clear failure in leadership.

One cannot hold the government solely; the responsibility spreads, because the Boko Haram thing began in various ways a long time ago. “There was a time when they announced the Islamisation of Nigeria; they should have been stamped upon by the constitution, using the constitution as a weapon.

“While definitely, the responsibility of what is going on rests with Jonathan, the bigger problem began with previous governments.” On the options before Nigeria in the coming presidential elections, the erudite scholar urged Nigerians to be prepared to go back to the trenches if the wrong choice is made.

“Basically, for me, anything which so smells of soliciting permanent incumbency or littling the options is not palatable. But you know, the environment changes, the circumstances change and then even the worst military can become demobilised, self-internally demobilised if you like.

“All I know is that if a wrong choice is made, we must all be prepared, we should start preparing to go back to the trenches, whatever it takes. “Let’s put it this way: the way you fight a civilian misrule is different from the way you deal with people like Sanni Abacha.

“So I’m saying Nigerians should be prepared to deal with any new betrayals by any ruler with the same kind of passion, commitment and understanding of a lack of alternative as they did with Sani Abacha, because we cannot continue this cycle of repetitious evil and irresponsibility.

The Okrika community is in deep morning right now. Just two days ago, 11 women who visited Mrs Patience Jonathan, a daughter of Okrikrika, in Okrika, her indigenous home, lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident. A pale of gloom has since then been cast on the Okrika community. APC Rivers State should have shown a little concern and respect for the souls of the dead and their family who are at this moment in deep agony. Organizing and holding a political rally there now amounts to dancing on the bodies of the dead and mocking and humiliating over their bereaved families. We are Africans, we know the type of decorum required of anybody towards that community at this hour.

    • Uzoma John

Who died in Okrika that you said is in mourning? Is Okrika now in Bayelsa State? If your Jona did campaign in Borno State, where his inactions and cluelessness has led to the death of tens of thousands of Nigerians, why can’t APC campaign in a hamlet called Okrika. Some of you just open your mouth carelessly to talk. I don’t blame you. Keep picking that crumb that has beclouded your sense of reasoning. You are here supporting the evil orchestrated by you evil people. Don’t worry. March 28 is around the corner. Anuohia.

      • Okey

Nama-Sambisa, will I be unfair to say: May your kindred stage a a party in your compound at the hour of your misfortune ?

        • Uzoma John

That is what you people are doing to Nigerians. You guys killed Nigerian unemployed youths in the name of Immigration employment, after illegally collecting =N=1000 each, from over a million of them, and nobody was held accountable. You and your Jona refused to go to Chibok and most of the North East States affected by BH, but see nothing wrong in going there to campaign for your continuous injustice against them. A day after the Nyanya bombing that killed more than 100 Nigerians, you and you PDP and GEJ were in Kano dancing skelewu on their graves. After the Baga massacre, rather than give a nation wide broadcast to condemn what happened and reassure Nigerians of their safety, you people were busy sending condolences to France (who dealt with their on situation headlong and with dispatch). So tell me, who is staging a party on the dead and long suffering Nigerians? Anu mpam. Efulefu. Devil’s advocate.

          • Okey

Since you never saw anything wrong there, May your kindred stage a party in your compound at the hour of your misfortune and distress !

          • Benson Idahosa

Same prayer for you and your family too okey. May this ‘prayer” be with you and your family what you have just “prayed” in this post. Say Amen okey. Amen for you okey.

          • Okey

What I condemn cannot and will not come near me. I have said it is bad for you to take your jubilation to the premises of the bereaved. Unless you condemn that act and behaviour, otherwise it awaits you. That’s your election, not mine.

  • Ade

Ijaw terrorists and supporters of patience jonathan were behind this mayhem. I hope that patience and her clueless husband will not end in jail like president Gbagbo of Ivory Coast. The atrocities of this woman hippopotamus called the First Lady are getting out of hand.

And somebody will now say is Boko haram. This is purely orchestrated by PDP. Shame on GEJ he failed to unite this country.# March28 patiently waiting

Adams obi wrote on his facebook to Nigerians, Yesterday, I watched a movie called ‘Hotel Rwanda’ I couldn’t finish watching the movie, tears were just rolling down my eyes. It is a true-life story about the Rwandan genocide in 1994. I recommend every ill-informed immature person to go see that movie, and also read some history and documentaries about ethnic conflicts in places around the world. In Nigeria, we are playing with fire. Ironically, this shameful acts is being displayed by people of both sides, both Southerners and Northerners, all in the name of defending one politician or the other. Some of us has chosen to preach hate instead of love, but surprisingly, we still claim to be Christians. I think it’s time we start coming together as humans, and understand that our differences should only make us unique. I lived in a Muslim-dominated country (Not any part of Nigeria) for 5 years, I had loads of Muslim friends who I could trust . Those guys were and still is the best friends I’ve ever had in my life. It’s absolutely idiotic to judge a whole race of people by the actions of a few individuals, after all, there are some Igbo people that I would never want to have anything to do with, simply because they are bad. If your faith encourages you to treat a group of people as unwanted then there is really something wrong with that faith. I think it takes a better level of exposure and information to understand this things. Don’t just sit in one corner of the world and always talk senselessly, some of us should at least step out of the closet and discover the world. Say no to Violence, it add no benefit to human well-beings. Say no to hate speech, it is capable of destroying our world!
