No election in high security risk areas of North East – Jega

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Tuesday, said it will not conduct elections in what he described as “high rate security risk” areas of the North-East states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.

Addressing journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, the commission’s chairman, Attahiru Jega, said while elections will hold in the three state, some places are just no-go areas.

“Some areas are high rate security risk, for instance, places occupied by insurgency. Elections cannot hold in such places. In medium rate security risk areas like Maiduguri, elections will hold there with maximum security. Also, you have places that are low rate security risk; elections will sure hold in such areas too.

“INEC has always said it is prepared to conduct elections in all the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) – including the three North East states experiencing the challenge off insurgency.

“The Commission, however, will work closely with security‎ agencies who have constitutional responsibility for securing the election environment,” Mr. Jega said.

He added, “I do not entertain any doubt as to the capacity of INEC to conduct elections in these states (Borno, Adamawa and Yobe).

“But, in these states, there are areas occupied by insurgency and obviously it stands to reason that elections are unlikely in such areas. But that does not mean we are not going to conduct elections in these three states.”

Mr. Jega said as part of preparations to conduct elections in the crisis-stricken states, the Commission “set up a task force which has made recommendations as to how we can enable the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in these 3 states to vote‎”.

He said modalities to cater for the voting need of the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, would be announced after the commission’s stakeholder meeting holding Wednesday.

Our prayer is that BOKO HARAM will stop from now henceforth so that election will hold across the 36 states and federal capital territory successfully. Particularly now that entire world has acknowledged that insurgency/Boko Haram in Nigeria in politically motivated going by the high intensity of the boko haram attacks currently, perhaps, in view of the Feb., 14 presidential election. Let us queue behind GEJ and support President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in the forthcoming election so that he can deliver the dividend of democracy to the fullest. Thank you all.

  • Ayodele

I pray the attacks are intensified in the entire North East and West and PDP will laugh last…foolish APC!

    • Abubakar Muhammad

And what does that make you. Praying to the Lord of Mercy to cause more destruction and death to people who are innocent, because of your understanding of politics.

    • Ukpaka

As you wish others death, have you considered you might not even be alive to see the election day? Just shows how shallow you are. You better repent and ask for forgiveness before death visits you.

  • TAWANDA INCOMMUNICADO

This development is not fair to the PDP,the only place in the NE where the APC could win is the Sambisa forest, the rest would vote against extremism and the Jihadist forces of the APC !

  • Truthometer

Dumbo and PDP plan seems to be working.

    • Shuaibu Bola Victor

My brother let us all embrace truth,

      • Onike24

You wouldn’t know the truth even if it slapped you on the face.

        • Shuaibu Bola Victor

Truth is truth. God is truth, devil is lie.

      • Truthometer

Truth according to saint Dumbo. Right?

        • Shuaibu Bola Victor

Truth is same everywhere. Pls lets us embrace it. Thank you.

        • Shuaibu Bola Victor

          Truth is from God.

    • Issei

Truth is there may not be election next month, because the constitution, and the Electrol says Elections for the office of President SHALL be held on the same day at the same time throuout the country, the law didn’t sa MAY,so in this case, there is nothing going to be done, the security situation improves or we mobilize enough security to guarantee INEC,staffs and the NYSC adhoc staff security,to protect them.

      • NNAMDI EZENWAFOR UNIJE

well said! you are very correct;that’s what the constitution says;where they fail to have the election then the senate president will take over until election can be held in all states. But honest the zoo called nizooria is coming to an end for good, after all we don’t have the same social value system and we are one and can never be.So is far better we go our separate ways. For me BIAFRA STATE IS ALL I CARE!

  • Shuaibu Bola Victor

Please let us based our expressions on sound reasoning. Forget about the
APC propaganda making rounds. Their aim are simply to hijack power and
to use it to advance their economic interests. And if they succeed,
Nigeria will forget about the tenets of democracy/practice of democracy
in all areas( there will never be freedom of speech let alone other
fundamental human rights). Just look at them? The likes of
Tinubu(godfather ). The few of them(majority of apc leaders) that are scheming to pocket the
whole of Nigerians. God willing, they will not succeed. Thank you for
    your understanding..

    • tundemash

f00l .. ….. if i want to grab power from you, do i need to kill my brothers and relatives to achieve that ?

Instead of ranting here, go and prepare Dumbo for the Presidential debate. No dodging and debating Dbanj this time around like the cl0wn did in 2011.

      • ikenna

Why do U always insult people that don’t share your opinion. Must everybody support whoever U support and must U insult people before U make ur point. Please stop this insults and name calling and be matured and make ur comments

        • tundemash

cl0wn …. when your amnesty inmates call people jihadist or janwajeed…. is that a compliment at the amnesty camp ?

      • Shuaibu Bola Victor

What is your scorecard for today’s Workshop? Odd is against GMB and APC. GEJ is ordained by God, ancestors and Nigerians. Nobody can stop him except Nature himself. GEJ we will vote.

        • Truthometer

This is feverish deception of oneself.

          • Shuaibu Bola Victor

            Tell them.

        • tundemash

dimwit is boxed nto a corner and he changes topic as usual !

  • tundemash

Shame on Dumbo ! He was handed a country intact and now despite his lies INEC has confirmed that indeed part of Nigeria is in the hands of terrorists.

    • Emma Kwankwaso

Duh!!! Show your patriotism by joining the army then. That’s how you show that you truly care about ‘your’ country.

      • tundemash

So i guess you are in the army then since you are “patriotic”. And going by your logic, Dumbo isn’t patriotic since he isn’t in the army. dimwit, you are not even clever enough to compose a good name for yourself !

    • ikenna

Why don’t U go and carry a gun and join our army and fight. Stop ranting and shouting insults here

    • ceweeco projects

When you go on and on with your insult like you broadas and sisters in APC without any solution proffered, You then do the only thing you know how do and that is changing your name to Wahala. Character is habit long continued. Rudeness is a weak man’s imitation of strength.

      • tundemash

Calling Jona a Dumbo is an insult ? Guess what ….. when u leave the creek and go into town, ask the girls what nickname they now give to a dimwit boyfriend.

        • ikenna

This goat man move on with your life if you have any. Move on and try and look for the meaning of clown and then compare your hopeless life. Move on. Goat

          • tundemash

i guess your father owns PT or Dumbo willed PT to u or what is your basis of “moving on ” ???? I guess the truth hurts u so badly. Guess what ? While u guys were in the bush at the creek, i have been on SaharaReporters and PT and i don’t have the intention of leaving soon.
We had some Abacha/OBJ/Turai e-rats online too in those days and they are all back in the hole they came from when their crumb givers were shoved aside, same fate awaits you ! Keep proper care of you TAN stove bc that is all you will have to show after FeBuhari 14th.

        • ikenna

This fugazy guy wait until Feb 14th then U can open that ur big mouth and talk. The election is still on Feb 14th. Hold on and then talk. Stop showing ur ignorance and hold on. Hold on Feb 14th is around the corner. If buhari wins I will congratulate him and life goes on. It is not a do or die for me but u need to wait for the election and results.

        • adeade

No, its not an insult? Be civil for once please… This is a new year, i thought you have dropped this attitude.

          • tundemash

You can hold your thought to yourself. No one has put a gun on your head to read my post …. isn’t it ? Close your eyes next time and move on to the next one.

    • ikenna

This Muppet it seems clown is the only word U know. Make ur points and move on Hausa goat man.

      • tundemash

cl0wn …. is this the reason terrorists are decimating Nigeria while Dumbo remains drunk ?

  • bikky

Elections must hold comes February 2015,and men of the moment chosen by God must emerged, either old or older,he will serve four years single term and handover.

  • mk

Finally it has been revealed no elections in some northern part of nigeria…PLAN B of pdp is in place and action…one gubernatorial candidate from kaduna state has already enlighten us.

  • Hembe Hembe

I dont know why we still have some spoilers online trying to open fire on us all. the serenity that we have today was made by God not man. GEJ scored 90% at the last count of today’s activities. there is need for APC to scheme anything again. If I were them, I will tactfully mend fence with PDP members. Whether APC or PDP, we are all brothers. There is no gain bombing ourselves just because of greed for power. God is the only one that gives power to whomever that he likes. No one can ever outsmart God’s WILL through propaganda, mischief and/or through violence. UP GEJ. One love, One Nigeria.

  • Izedomi Ohirein

Nigerians like to make drama out of crises like market place pick pocket.
Jonathan turned minor boko haram challenge of 2011 into a tragedy in 2014 and opportunity to loot & convert our national defence budget into 2015 re-election campaign funds. God help us.
