Fresh explosion rocks Gombe; 3 feared dead

File Photo: A recent bomb blast in Gombe, at a Bus Station.

An explosion has hit Gombe with at least three people feared dead, residents have said.

The blast occurred in Kasuwan Mata area of the town, and was carried out by a female suicide bomber, the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports.

A resident of the town, Ahmed Hamza, told PREMIUM TIMES the explosion killed three people and injured several others.

“The explosion obviously targeted an (anti-Kalare) office which is used by the military in the area. The bomb went off not more than 100 metres from the office,” he said.

He also said the explosion took place during the evening Muslim prayer, adding that most of those affected by the blast were Almajiri boys (street beggars) who throng the area in the evenings.

The spokesperson of the Police in the state, Fwaje Atajiri, could not be immediately reached for comments.

The News Agency of Nigeria said personnel of the Nigerian Red Cross Society and other related personnel were at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Specialists Hospital, Gombe, to rescue victims.

The agency quoted Umar Ahmed, the Disaster Management Coordinator of the Red Cross Society in Gombe State, as saying that immediately they heard about the blast, the Society mobilised its personnel to rescue the injured persons.

NAN quoted a source as saying a girl was seen loitering around the area before detonating her explosive belt.

The source said irate youths who were at the scene set the remains of the suspected suicide bomber ablaze, while those injured were taken to the Specialists Hospital, Gombe for treatment.

NAN said its correspondent who visited the hospital around 7 p.m., saw 21 persons who sustained various degrees of injuries were being attended to by doctors.

BREAKING NEWS! BREAKING NEWS!! LISTEN ATTENTIVELY TO THE VOICE OF REASON: NOT A JOKE.

    “Reports
are flying that Northern leaders who had hitherto supported Buhari may
be making a U-turn in the February elections after reports that the
general may be having a serious health problem..

This is following the online rumors that Buhari collapsed during his presidential campaign rally in Calabar.

Even though the APC denied the report, it has given cause for worry,
and the North has become wary, after they were ‘sidelined’ after
Yar’Adua died in May, 2010 before completing his tenure, a development
which led to the abrupt shift of power to the South-South under the
rulership of incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

    “The North is
beginning to rethink the promised support for Buhari in view of reports
that he is suffering from a certain ailment which is believed to be
wearing him down. There are also reports that the elders are pushing to
cut a deal with Jonathan to complete his tenure in 2019 but extract a
promise that power would be returned to the North via a younger and
    energetic Northerner,” a source said.

    “If anything happens to
Buhari, power will return to the South-West less than a decade after
President Obasanjo left Aso Rock. The prospects are grim, both for the
North and even the South-East that is queuing for their own turn,”
another Northern top personality is reported as saying” —NIGERIAN

Your comment is a good example of trivialities. Let’s make this election about issues affecting Nigerians.

    • Mr Wise

      Stop this BS

      • Otile

How is it BS? Last time when Obasanjo was leaving office he chose a dieing man as his successors, some wise men from the West saw his ploy and warned against it. Obasanjo ridiculed them, and callously appointed Yar’Adua who at the time had one foot in the grave.

Tinubu is trying to play the same game hoping that Buhari will win and die leaving the presidency for him and his boy, the pastor.

But the devil is a lair, Imam is not going to win anything. If they refuse to disqualify him for lack of education, there are more than enough reasonable voters to disqualify him at the poll.

        • Mr Wise

My brother no need to fight that is my opinion but if you believe in GEJ please vote for him but for me and my like minded friends we have made up our mind not to support him this time around.

      • Shuaibu Bola Victor

        It is fact

        • Mr Wise

My brother i disagree with you some of you have not left your state, do not even understand the makeup of Nigeria.I was born in Warri did my primary and secondary school there before going to the North to fuether my education, and believe me they are good people over there just like the way you good and people in the South. Please let take away sentiment GEJ failed and is time to move on.

          • Shuaibu Bola Victor

The discussion here is not whether Southerners or Northers are good people or bad people. But the issue is that GEJ has performed creditably that he deserved second tenure. As a Northerner or Southerner, my sense of justice is intact. We have good people both in north and in south. MY NAME IS A BRIDGE across the two dichotomies. Thank you. Lets vote GEJ irrespective of Boko Haram Threats

          • Mr Wise

Since we have an understanding please vote for your GEJ while i vote for GMB.

          • Shuaibu Bola Victor

Hahhaha. My brother, my wish is to see that you have a good welfare after the general elections. and the only way you can help to ensure the general welfare is for you to give your vote to the right candidate; GEJ. Pls vote GEJ. Cheers

  • Chris1408

People are massacred across Nigeria, our president is campaigning for reelection. He’s number job is security of Nigerians.

    • elmok

old stuff ,you can do better than this

  • larry

Vote Buhari and the bombings would stop 🙂

    • George

We all knew this is what they want but they have failed

  • TAWANDA INCOMMUNICADO

The political opposition and their military wing seem to be upping the ante, they are stepping up attacks.
    MAY GOD HELP NIGERIA !!

IT’S VOTE FOR THEM OR THEY KILL YOU,THIS IS BLOODY BLACKMAIL AND NIGERIANS MUST NEVER SUCCUMB !!

  • Buhari M. Vampire

    Only 3?

    • George

I wonder why only 3 they should try and do more.

  • Prayer for Nigeria

    Dear God,
There is too much blood on the streets because some tribes believe it is their birth right to rule by all means. Over 37,500 people have died since 1999 when power shifted to the South after 39yrs.

Dear God, cause Nigeria to break up into many countries. Give the Hausa Muslims their own country so they can have Buhari as their president.

Give the Middle Belt of Benue, Jos, etc their own country.

Give the South their own country.

Give the East their own country

Give the West their own country

…..so that this bloodshed will stop.

Thank you Lord for answered prayers.

    AMEN

    • Otile

This prayer is poison to Yorubas. They can’t leave, they want Buhari to hold us together with iron hand.

I say Amen to your prayer. Life is precious. We can no longer trust ourlives in the hands of Northern Muslims. It will be suicidal do to so.

    • motsa jiki

If they want power they bomb themselves. ?GEJ has failed to deal with adherents of a violent ideology simple. He allows them to remain in sambisa

    • Bishop

Hope you heard they even attempted aa barracks in cameroun and what the army did to them there? Nigeria should stop the blame games and work

    • Bishop

And to your prayer, God is God and He sent Christ for sinners and asked us to preach the word till everyone hears. Imagine if our disciples, apostles, missionaries gave up before now? Now are you mockin God? Be guided! Your main purpose is furtherin God’s work not settin it back in name of region and tribe.

A true leadership is the ability
to stay the course notwithstanding the level of distraction
orchestrated to make the leader lose focus, President Jonathan
has beaten every adversity to achieve an unprecedented transformation
    of Nigeria..

“With the world’s gaze focused on Paris last week, militants from Boko
Haram destroyed the town of Baga and several neighboring villages in
northern Nigeria, killing up to 2,000 people and displacing thousands more.

On Saturday, at least another 16 people were killed when extremists strapped
a bomb to a girl who may have been as young as 10 and then detonated it
      in a crowded marketplace.

You’d expect Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan to condemn the
carnage inside his country, particularly after he called last week’s
massacre at a French satirical newspaper a “dastardly terrorist attack.”
But you’d be wrong: Jonathan has yet to acknowledge that any of the
Boko Haram attacks even took place.”
