Nigerian troops repel fresh Boko Haram attack near Mubi

Boko Haram insurgents have encountered stiff resistance from Nigerian troops and volunteers when they attempted to overrun Uba town, just about 35 kilometers from the commercial town of Mubi that was recently recaptured from the insurgents.

Witnesses said a fierce gun battle ensued, lasting hours. The insurgents reportedly launched the attack around 7:30am Saturday morning.

Speaking via telephone, a resident of Uba, who identified himself as Bello, said the insurgents had made an attempt to take over the town but soldiers stationed in the area were able to repel the attackers after a sustained battle.

“The attackers came in the wee hours of today Saturday and started shooting sporadically at the Nigerian troops in an attempt to capture the town,” he said.

“However, the soldiers and local hunters engaged them in a gun duel. But the soldiers later succeeded in repelling the attack.”

Some witness reported seeing dead bodies and burnt cars.

Though the Nigerian Military is yet to say the exact casualties from both sides, local sources say many of the attackers were killed.

The Uba attack has caused pandemonium in the neighbouring towns, particularly Mubi, as residents ran into the bushes for fear the insurgents may have once again annexed the town.

The anxiety was sparked by the fact that the last time the insurgents attacked Uba, they proceeded to annex Mubi in a couple of hours.

A resident of Mubi, Aliyu Musa, said that the news of a gun duel between Nigerian troops and Boko Haram insurgents has sparked tension as many ran into the surrounding bushes and hilltops for safety.

“There was serious pandemonium in Mubi as news filtered that Boko Haram insurgents have attempted to take over Uba town which is just a stone throw away from Mubi.

“But the security forces were able to repel the insurgents and as I am speaking to you, normalcy has started returning to Mubi following assurances by security personnel that they are on top of the situation,” Mr. Musa said.

Another resident, Ya’uba Garba, also told reporters that even after Mubi and surrounding towns were liberated, there is still fear that Boko Haram members remained hidden in surrounding bushes.

He urged security personnel to intensify surveillance in the bushes to flush out the insurgents completely.

Well done, may God be with you !

    • Abbey

      @ amazing 2012:

But wait first, is education to be used to support the mass murder of Nigerians?

Is that not what Nigerian journalists are doing today and destroying their country!

Internet journalists too: they say Islamic Jihad is better than clueless government?

I really like this thing happening. This Boko Haram Leader – Abubakar Shekahu

has removed the log from my own eyes. These Nigerian journalists, civil rights activists,

and the so-called constitutional lawyers, are all useless people. They are like thieves who

will support mass killing or anything bad once they are given heavy money under the table.

      • amazing2012

I did not understand you !

        • Abbey

Sorry my brother. I forgot to say first that i agree with you. Very sorry.
I was just too angry with Nigerian journalists and human rights people.
Imagine now – you are taking correct decision to stand for your country.
Imagine if all the 170 million people inside Nigeria join you to do that.

Will Nigeria not be a good country? But see, what do we have instead?

Human rights, civil rights, journalist – all of them – telling people to forget
about this bloody Islamic Jihad, even as 30,000 have been killed? Is that
how human beings with sense should think or talk? I’m asking you, please?
We should forget about our burning house and face the pimples on our face?

          • Robbie

            Abbey

Yes, that’s true. It is sad that our so-called journalists, radicals, and human rights activists, cannot think properly. It is very wrong of them to encourage and support nationwide Islamic Sharia when the country (Nigeria) itself is in the middle of an Islamic Jihad.

In all of world history i have not heard of such a thing. Non-Muslim intellectuals; or even schooled Muslim scholars, will never mislead their countrymen so badly into war, as Nigeria’s so-called radicals are now doing to their own country.

Nowhere in the world, in a multi-religious country like Nigeria, is this type of nationwide political and armed campaign for Islamic Sharia ever separable from a full-blown Islamic Jihad. But in Nigeria, the half-educated professors, journalists, activists and lawyers, don’t know better than to grandstand like fake radicals, whilst fanning ignorantly genocide in their own country, by not thinking.

Why is the military always on the defensive and repelling instead of attacking? Clear lack of political will to go after the B.H members who live and plan the attack within Nigeria. Thats what you get from a dumb clueless Commander in Chief with a corrupt military hierarchy and security agents.

    • Ekerete Etukudo

Nigeria NEEDS you to join the army and help fight the insurgents/islamists/buhari/APC. Unless you’re APC!

      • Randy

Dumbo does not have to join the army to ask that important question. A good military will take those terrorists out in one second from the air.

    • Randy

“Why is the military always on the defensive and repelling instead of attacking?” This is the big question that has been left unanswered for too long. Nigeria needs answer now.

      • MrFesh+Ifebuche+Paschal

It has a simple answer but bigoted minds don’t see it. Look up insurgency in your dictionary.

AN APPEAL TO ALL FOREIGN GOVERNMENTS

A peremptory rule against genocide in the U.N Convention can’t apply to Nigerians.
Invited genocide, by law, is suicide at worst, but surely not a crime against humanity-
even as beheading progresses at a faster rate in Nigeria with blood spilling all over.
Hence, i write to appeal to all foreign governments to note the sequence of infamy
in the series of high crimes and misdemeanors now suffusing to asphyxiate Nigeria.

In extent that these felonies are self-inflicted by Nigerians; and, abetted by the rump
of bribed and confused, self-described intellectuals now rotting inside the blighted country,
the rest of the world must accept the genocidal choices Nigerians are making for themselves.

Those grim choices include intentional aiding and abetting of an ISLAMIC STATE OF NIGERIA.
Whilst all countries desiring peace and progress push against Islamic state in their own countries,
Nigerians are making conscious efforts to embrace, abet, and impose Islamic State on themselves.
Pastors and Christians are actually on top of the queue of those rooting for Islamic State of Nigeria.

That clear point made, it follows that Boko Haram militias and Ansaru militiamen have certain immunity.
    Their restricted immunity here is solely based on a pristine common law principle known since 1624 A.D;
and described as volenti non fit injuria: meaning nobody can be compensated for a self-invited harm.
Since the Christian Nigerians invite Islamic State on themselves, by acquiescing on the foisting of Sharia Law,
they cannot be heard in an international law Tribunal asking for help or compensation over a resulting genocide.

    • Garos

      @ Rigobert:

Ah, it’s true O! Even Saudi Arabia and Egypt have long banned the Muslim Brotherhood,
and, banned all Islamic parties. Those two countries are the cradle and the capital of Islam.
But Nigerians approve Islamist parties, like APC, and now Nigerians pay the price for idiocy,

        of Sharia in the country.

It is a legal responsibility which God has given us, within the context of one Nigeria,
to continue to uphold the practice of Sharia wholeheartedly. What remains for Muslims
in Nigeria is for them to re-double their efforts and educate Muslims on the need
to promote the full implementation of Sharia law.”

“Don’t look at Boko Haram as something that is isolated to the North-east; no, no!
It is meant to spread and cover the entire nation until Christianity is eradicated
in all its forms and ramifications. There is an Islamic Agenda for Nigeria.

80% of their (APC) governors are Muslims. Now there must be a restructuring.
In 2015 the Christians must stand up and insist that the Lagos State governor
must be a Christian. This Islamic agenda unleashed against Nigeria shall fail.

In September last year God spoke particularly to Dr. Vincent Aigbogun –
Director General, National Institute of Transformation – that if care is not taken,
in 30 to 40 years Nigeria will be like Turkey. And God told him. ‘Go and learn

Boko Haram, Northern Nationalists, And APC

These killings in the north are orchestrated!!!
They are being fanned, fueled and fed by elements who believe that it is the north’s turn to produce the president in
    2015, i.e. northern nationalists!!!!
My sympathies must however go not to northerners (predominantly Muslims), but to predominantly southern Christians, who are truly aghast by these killings; whose souls are indeed tormented by them..
Those guys in the north care less; they are ready and willing to sacrifice their sons, daughters, and wives for
    political power…
Is it any news that they willfully donate their sons, wives and daughter as martyrs of Boko Haram…
They are ready and willing to wipe out their own people and community, if only they could reclaim Aso Rock,
because for them any and everything is dispensable just for power…
They believe the killings are justifiable on the grounds that it is the sure-fire way of driving Jonathan out
    of office…
I tell you, the hardest war is the one seemingly pitching a Muslim (or Muslims) with a Christian (or
    Christians)….
Here, whereas the Muslim would see it, without second thought, as a holy war, the secular-minded Christian hardly sees it as such..
And once the Muslim defines the conflict as “holy war,” he would fight dirty; he would become suicidal; his life and the lives of others would count for nothing; this is governed by the concept of martyrdom which is tied to the concept of holy war (or fight in the cause of Allah) in Islam…
The more you slaughter, the more BH is recruiting new members in droves from, of all places, mosques and from donor
parents; and from ordinary young Muslim men and women who believe in the BH cause – their number can never be depleted!!!
And once Muslims see that a holy war is under way, even the poorest of the poor, would donate his last farthing to
    the cause…
Tell you: BH is getting sponsorship from the wretched, the rich as well as the super-rich of northern extraction…
    BH is well-funded!!!
But whereas the BH number is growing, that of Nigeria’s military personnel is shrinking, because those being killed
are scarcely quickly replaced, owing to the fact that not too many Nigerians believe in their country enough to die for it….
Comparatively however the BH in every northern Muslim, without making overt show of it, believes in the BH cause….
Have you asked what BH is really fighting for…
It is recalled that this BH thing fully started with the inauguration of Jonathan as president, following which
Abuja was bombed in quick successions..
    They evolved into targeting churches…
Now, the insurgents just get into the streets and maul people down indiscriminately….
Think: What are they fighting for by killing indiscriminately? Muslims, Christians and animists are wantonly hauled
into the grave, just like that..
And just following GEJ’s inauguration of his political campaign Thursday, they go on an unprecedented killing binge
    in Baga….
Why? Simple: they want to frustrate GEJ’s presidential ambition; they want to forcibly stall his campaign…
They want him to be ashamed of pursuing his legitimate ambition; they aim at discrediting him…
Note these words: everything about BH is political…
I however take solace in this: no amount of blackmail would reduce God; He is the One that sets up kings and deposes Kings…
Not I only, but also one of the world’s greatest philosophers G.W.F. Hegel in his “Philosophy of History,” maintain that God (or his concept of World Spirit) is involved in the affairs of men..
If heaven has Jonathan for blame in this wanton killings, my prediction that he would win the election will
    fail!!!!
But if conversely heaven absolves him, then his traducers would be exposed; and he surely would be returned to
    office come Feb. 14!!!
For “God does not see as men sees,” says the Holy Scriptures..

  • Islam Haram

Yet, Buhari and Northern Muslims keep blaming GEJ for nothing. Buhari and Muslims MUST STOP the sharia killing of Non-Muslims.

    • ICC Hague

For now GEJ is the C-in-C, he must be blamed for insecurity in Nigeria. but when GEJ hand over to Buhari come may 2015 and Buhari could not do anything on insecurity, then he will be blamed for that.

      • emmanuel

Mumu, do you know what sent Uhuru Kenyatta to ICC? It was same thing Buhari did in 2011.

Jonathan is too calm to a fault.

WHY PREMIUM TIMES IS BEST AND MOST RELIABLE

I give kudos to the Editors of Premium Times for demonstrating honesty of purpose in reportage.
Your Editors win discerning readers from other websites who want the whole truth – not a slant.
No newspaper or website can decide a country’s election. A website delusively thinking it can,
is either sick or silly. A narrative presented with sense of responsibility is all journalism means.

A sense of responsibility means even-handed treatment of a principle to apply to all sides.
Theft by one person should not be reported as negligence on the part of another person.
That is no longer journalism, but irresponsible scribbling, to swell the journalist’s pockets.

The aggregate intelligence in the greater society is much bigger than that in a newsroom.
Editorializing under pretext of reporting the news is an irresponsible bug in the other media.
The public is reacting to that with cynical scepticism that such other journalists are bribed.
No newspaper or website slurred with bias or bribe can ever exit from under that dark cloud.

A self-convinced newspaper or website working for a political party must publish a caution.
It must be honest to announce with caveat emptor that readers should NOT expect fair news.
Simultaneously, it must declare truthfully that it exists as a one-sided media for a named party.
Readers could then be less irritated by latterly clever-by-half attempts to disguise bias as news.

      @ Des Rees:

Indeed, Nigerian newspapers had that good tradition until the 1980s when criminals and thieves,
acting as counter-revolutionaries, infiltrated media houses with stolen money and quietened

Nigeria’s local press through bridling vile ownership control, as we are seeing again nowadays

with internet media being rapidly turned into mere horses of instruction by their piper-payers.

      • Andy

What annoys me is that these useless writers don’t even know where to draw the line.
Nigeria is in a civil war with over 30,000 dead on both sides but these bribed journalists
can see only APC versus PDP on the batlefield between soldiers and Boko Haram militias.
They’re so blinded by bribe and reckless childishness they don’t see their bleeding country

“We are overdue for a revolution. If you are afraid of revolution,
maybe you have something to be afraid of. What is wrong with us
having a revolution here in Nigeria? Unless, of course, you belong
to those who are stealing government money or you have something
to hide, then, of course, you should be afraid of a revolution.

After the revolution, there is what we call revolutionary justice –
the revolutionaries will get you and shoot you. There are many
people whom if we shoot, Nigeria will become a better place.
In fact, if the revolutionaries can shoot dead just 500 corrupt people,
Nigeria will be a much better place and God will forgive the revolutionaries.”

It’s true some website journalists have no sense of shame as errand boys and girls.
They are on the payroll of the Islamist All Progressives Congress party (APC) party.

        • Freeman

Ah, no problem, my sister. Don’t worry! We know them. A criminal is a criminal –
whether he or she also carries on trade as a journalist, he or she is still a criminal.
Anybody who has aided the Islamist killings of over 20,000 Nigerians will not go free.

    • Durosinmi P. Etti

“And now the conclusion seems to be inescapable in Nigeria
that what we have as leaders in politics, business and in the
civil service are common thieves in high places. The rot is so deep
      that stealing is now in the family system, in the religious system;
even in friendly and social clubs. Everybody is looking for
      somebody else to steal from.

The day our leaders decide they don’t need James Ibori’s kind of wealth
or Cecilia Ibru’s kind of property acquisition, that a good name is better
than material acquisition; and that leadership at the end of the day,
is about people and leaving a place better than you met it, is the day Nigeria
will begin a positive walk into sanity and propriety. Until then, Nigeria is just
      a nation of common thieves.”
