Tambuwal confirms attendance at APC meeting, delays defection announcement

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, has confirmed attending a key meeting of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, in Sokoto State, Monday, amid renewed speculation of his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

In a statement late Monday, the speaker said he was still consulting on his political future and will make his decision public at the appropriate time.

He did not say exactly whether he has finally dumped the ruling party.

But associates of the speaker told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Tambuwal, long out of favour with the ruling PDP, finally declared for the APC Monday, telling other APC officials at the meeting to accept him as “one of you starting from today”.

One source said “What does that tell you, will they allow someone that is not their member attend their meeting?”

Those who spoke asked not to be named. They said the speaker’s reluctance to make a formal announcement may be part of his effort to ensure he does not jeopardize his position as speaker after decamping to the APC.

The Sokoto meeting was for APC officials to choose a consensus candidates for the state’s gubernatorial and other elections.

While Mr. Tambuwal has remained officially a PDP speaker, he has been absent from key party functions for a while.

In his statement, Mr. Tambuwal said he attended a “political family” meeting at the instance of Sokoto State governor, Aliyu Wammako. The meeting was to discuss the future of the state, he said.

The speaker said he close to attend the meeting after he was snubbed by a PDP delegation to Sokoto State on Monday.

The delegation, led by the party’s Board of Trustees chairman, Tony Anenih, travelled to the state for reconciliation talks with estranged party members.

Mr. Tambuwal said he was not invited to the meeting despite his position as speaker, and as a member of the party’s National Executive Committee, NEC.

“That Rt. Hon Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal was later invited by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, to attend the meeting of their political family to discuss the political future of Sokoto State,” the statement signed by Mr. Tambuwal’s spokesperson, Imam Imam, said.

The statement said the meeting also had in attendance “prominent Sokoto citizens many of who have no known political affiliation”.
The most notable was the Sardauna of Sokoto and former Minister of Finance, Abubakar Alhaji.

Chei Tambuwal sun Mutu! Haba Mr speaker! I tot the man was party- less . It is a shame that the man is not even honest with him self.

    • endingNaija

Was Mimiko partyless when he “defecated” (on Ondo state people) to PDP from Labour party? Answer larry na reno omokri!

      • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

        Brilliant answer!

        • Omo Oodua

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

Why are you calling me by your baptismal name?

You can’t find your birth certificate again?

Go and count the number of marks on the mud wall in your village!

  • Goodluck_Nigeria

Aminu Tambuwaal is a PDP Reject …… it is therefore no news that he attended an APC meeting in his native Sokoto .. after all APC is a DUST BIN for the collection of all corrupt and inept PDP Rejects.

What is news is that Aminu Tambuwaal has been rightly demoted and downgraded from Presidential Candidate to Governorship Candidate ….. how are the mighty falling !!!

    • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

      Just wait and see!

      You go hear nmweeen!!

      • Sword of Damocles

As has been stated by you and others, the time for talking has passed. The President and his minions of fellow grand larcenists should watch and see. Maybe it has not sunk in yet, but Nigerians are tired of their actions, the looting, and the unrelenting betrayal of these lot. We will have FREE & FAIR elections in February of next year or this Government must be removed by any means NECESSARY. All Jonathan’s shameless & treasonous bootlickers can say or do what they like, but lack of FREE & FAIR elections is the RUBICON that must be not crossed.

        • Tawandah incommunicado

Dream on boy !! it is allowed .

    • Don Baba

My dear, this is the correct statement : ‘How Art The Mighty Fallen’!
*check it up again in ‘Pslam’.
It is VERY Important u note the role of ‘fallen’ here.
Tambuwal is NOT Falling..HE HAS FALLEN!
Yet some lost sheep say all these shenanigans have nothing to do with ethnicity? Haha! I laugh! Now they can see why the yorubas were supplanted to pave way for a stooge of the oligarchy. To be a thorn in the flesh of the ‘southern Xtian’ GEJ..NOT Based on issues to do with governance style..BUT BASED ON PAROCHIAL INTERESTS.
Those who will not learn will be used.
Same way the SW was shortchanged thru the collaboration with Tinubu to deny them the speakership.
Same way Oby Ezekwesili learnt the hard way her #BBOG had become a smokescreen for the double agents Dino & Hadiza.
In that country Naija, one needs to scratch beneath the surface..things are not always what the seem to be.
Same old same old parochial interests at play. Hidden to the gullible, yet as clear as daylight to the discerning.

    • endingNaija

but Abba Moro is still in PDP. If he is still in PDP then he is not corrupt because he is not a PDP reject. What do you think reno omokri na Goodluck_Nigeria

    • Yahuza Sani Sagagi

If you call that demotion, what will you call that of Nuhu Ribadu, Buba Marwa or Ibrahim Shekarau?
What will you call that of Goodluck Jonathan?

  • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

This is not earth-shaking but “PDP-shattering” news.

The formal defection of Tambuwal is a long awaited one for me because of those who would be moving with him in the House.

The final tsunami would follow when GEJ announces his candidature.

    • paul preston

if your man is sure of himself like you posit why has he not moved ever since. It is all noise Tam has no political clout so he is no more running for presidency?nonsense you can make as much noise as you like but GEJ will beat them hands down. It is a promise that will be kept

      • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

        If you state so, Paul.

Just remember that revenge is a dish best served cold.

Just as the PDP plotted a Mimiko defection to maximise its effect, so would the Tambuwal defection reverberate across the PDP shanks!

Maximum impact is the operative word.

        • paul preston

Tam have lost his glamour how many will defect with him as things stand ? non if he dare make that move he will lose his seat that is the main gist he is so fearful and stuck head or tail he is a loser as things stands

      • blackdove

Timing is a virtue in political calculations. Please stand bye an observe you might learn thing or two before this game is over.

        • paul preston

timing? the man have lost out completely and you are drummin time,is he not contesting as apc presidential candidate again? and Buhari will step down for him abi? woeful failure

    • Tawandah incommunicado

It is rather Tambuwal-shattering because he would have lost his place as “Speaker”,he would be defecting as a normal legislator,he would be impeached unless he resigns. The constitution is clear about the fact that the party of majority appoints the Speaker !

      • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

Just wait and see, ol’ boy.

This is POS 101; first lecture!

  • Buhari is a Jihadist

    Another mole in PDP.

What are Northern Muslims doing to rescue Chibok girls from Sharia advocates (Boko-Haram)? Chibok girls are victims of Sharia law and Islam. Northern Muslims adopted Prophet Mohammed’s law(Sharia) as against Nigeria constitution.

Prophet Mohammed is in charge of Sharia law not GEJ. According to Northern Muslims, Sharia law is superior to Nigeria constitution. Thus, Northern Muslims should seek help from Prophet Mohammed not GEJ. GEj have no power under sharia law but Nigeria constitution.

Prophet Mohammed should be held responsible for his boys not GEJ.

    Say No to Sharia rule.

  • Danladi

He will be impeached if he delays further than wednesday to resign.

    • endingNaija

impeached by Goodluck Jonathan or who? And on what ground?

      • Danladi

He will be impeached by the representatives themselves.
That is what the constitution says should happen in that event.

        • endingNaija

but Mimiko can “defecate” (on Ondo state people) to PDP in service of Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 election campaign without being impeached. Oh oh I see if you “defecate” to PDP you are okay , if not you will be impeached. Okay I see the Jonathanian form of democracy at work. Okay, thanks Danladi na reno omokri na mani_kay na Mpitikwelu- na otile thanks a lot for clarifying the PDP and Jonathan corrupt practices of “defecation”.

          • Cypo

The party with the majority member present the Speaker of the House. APC does not command majority in the HOR. He should just resign before he is impeached, because he cannot escape it this time around. Hon, Adeola Akande is waiting to be confirmed the next Speaker of the House.

          • Chuks

It never crossed your mind that there may be other PDP members in the House who may defect with him, thereby swinging the pendulum towards APC? (having majority members in the House).

          • Cypo

Who does that and how many of them, when nomination form for next election closes in few days. Those who intends to do so have done that long time ago. He knew that he is no longer recognized in PDP as a member internally, but remained the House Speaker on account that the Party has no credible point to hold him accountable until now. Tambuwal is gone as a PDP member and also as the House Speaker. Try take a Census of the current members of each party in the House of Reps and you will find out that PDP has over 200 members from the total 360 membership.

          • Yahuza Sani Sagagi

Did it occur to you that Tambuwal can decamp and still remain as speaker.
No rule say that you must be in the majority party before you can be speaker.
Edwin Ezeoke was not in the majority party, but was speaker of the house.

          • OmoOlorun

            (c) if he is removed from office by a resolution of the Senate or of the House of Representatives, as the case may be, by the votes of not less than two-thirds majority of the members of that House.

A Composition and Staff of National Assembly

            47. There shall be a National Assembly for the Federation which shall consist of a Senate and a House of Representatives.

            48. The Senate shall consist of three Senators from each State and one from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

            49. Subject to the provisions of this Constitution, the House of Representatives shall consist of three hundred and sixty members representing constituencies of nearly equal population as far as possible, provided that no constituency shall fall within more than one State.

            (1) There shall be:-

            (a) a President and a Deputy President of the Senate, who shall be elected by the members of that House from among themselves; and

            (b) a Speaker and a Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, who shall be elected by the members of that House from among themselves.

            (2) The President or Deputy President of the Senate or the Speaker or Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives shall vacate his office –

            (a) if he ceases to be a member of the Senate or of the House of Representatives, as the case may be, otherwise than by reason of a dissolution of the Senate or the House of Representatives; or

            (c) if he is removed from office by a resolution of the Senate or of the House of Representatives, as the case may be, by the votes of not less than two-thirds majority of the members of that House.

          • Tonnero

Thanks for attempting to educate these PDPigs. However, this may amount to throwing jewels to pigs. They have no capacity to appreciate what you are saying

          • Tawandah incommunicado

Go and study specifically what the constitution says about how a speaker should be chosen before exposing your ignorance in public. The elected executive is not the same as the elected legislator ,that is why the man is playing hide and seek,he knows the implication of his actions,he ought to respect his office and resign honourably !!

          • endingNaija

But Mimiko will not resign after he “defecated” (on the good Ondo state peple) to PDP in service of the Oil master Oga president Jonathan-right?

          • Shehu Monguno

The constitution allows for the defection of the President, Vice President, Governors and Deputy Governors without loosing their various seats. This was one of the judgement Alhaji Atiku Abubakar got in 2006 from the Supreme Court when Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as Vice President defected from PDP to ACN and there were attempts to declare his seat vacant.

          • the truth

Please don’t waste your time explaining to him.if he can’t fact check stuff things before making a comment he is on his own.that just explains to you that someone who doesn’t know how government works or the difference between the process of impeachment between a governor and speaker is the same person boasting and making the loudest noise.

          • endingNaija

oh the truth na Tawandah you are here. We did not miss you for we have read you thru your other posts using other names-so do not worry , we did not really miss you. Okay my regular question to you: who are the two Nigerians President Jonathan and his friend Pastor Ayo Oristejafor used to launder $9.3m to South Africa? being a PDP member and being closed to Aso Rock, you should know. Kindly tell us the truth , the truth.

          • the truth

I would answer that question when you go back to your ss2 government and tell me the difference between a governor decamping to another party and a seating speaker decamping

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

He was busy voting on the Pastor Wendel Slimlin aka Reno Omokri poll for Jonathan!

            That’s why he was MIA.

          • Tonnero

Thanks for constantly putting the heat on that fraud. Keep it up.

          • Austop

Tawandah, I agree with “the truth”. I wouldn’t expect anyone who is knowledgeable to be dragging things with such a moron, that wouldn’t even know “defection” from “defecation”.
Somebody was even trying to enlight him, he still argues blindly. Such are our” typical Nigerian youths” nowadays.

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

On the contrary, it is you who got lost with his crafty play on words!

It takes a mastery of the language of communication to do what he did; it takes even more sagacity to appreciate the irony therein!

Did you not notice the quotation marks every time he used the word or you did not understand the significance of the punctuation marks?

You be think say na decorations him dey put for words?

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

So you guys know what is right?

And who told you, he won’t have the majority when he declares formally?

            Time is longer than rope.

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

Chima, I agree fully with you.

Tambuwal perfected his marathon race strategy very well indeed.

            Thanks for pointing that out.

I can start jubilating now, but you know something? The best of the tsunami is yet to come. Better grab a life jacket.

          • Yahuza Sani Sagagi

You go and ask after reading the constitution and the rules of the legislature.
Who told you that Speaker must emerge from the PDP? Speakership is for the Reps and not any of the parties. The lone DPP legislator can emerge as speaker if the house wishes.

        • @Amuwospeaks

Which part of the constitution stated that? That a speaker should be impeached after duly elected by the HOR members? Menh you need to go to your constitution and read again before saying what is not

  • Nigerian

Please keep Prophet Muhammad (SAW) out of any discussion here.

        • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

          Wrong, Francis.

We are not in the same category.

          I don’t have to “earn” a pay.

          People work for me. Understand?

I have done my years of hard labour to reach where I am.

          • Francis

Wow..so I guess congratulations are in order!
That’s also my dream..to be able to just sit back idly and spend the rest of my my trading insults online from MORNING TILL NIGHT!
            I envy you oo!

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

Francis, I pray to God you get to an even better point.

But do not aspire to trade insults, but ideas and spend your money on things that can make life better for all.

A lot of the thieving politicians we are talking about do not spend their ill-gotten wealth on making life better for all. Instead, they steal as much as they can acquire in the name of leaving “inheritances behind” when what those kids would only blow the money like no man’s business.

I thank God for my father, ever since it looked like my ears were big enough to understand, he kept on drumming “the best legacy a man can leave for his children is education”.

I have already added a variation to it for my own children so that they won’t have to steal – “the best legacy a man can give his children if financial education!”

Forget about trading insults, it is not my stock, but it does not mean I will take it from anybody.

  • the truth

The constitution clearly states that the majority party produces speaker.and those that can’t differentiate the difference between a defecting speaker and a defecting governor as stipulated by the constitution, should please consult Google ( as it is not a pdp or apc controlled website) and stop disgracing themselves in a public forum

    • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

      Wait and see!

I said this about a year ago, that when Tambuwal goes, there would be no shaking for him.

Why do you think PDP has been afraid and unable to touch him all these while?

He is as rugged as Kwakwaso and Amaechi. That is why.

Have you heard any pip from Aso Rock and PDP over this development?

No, they are still in shock and drowning ogogoro by the bucket loads in the hope that when they wake up, it would have been a nightmare.

Abeg, go knock door tell dem say this one na for real, no be yoke o!!!

      • Chima

Why do you shake or have nightmares if an internal mole quits your association? I will want to believe PDP knows long ago that the guy has ceased to be one of their own. In fact any rational will not wait to Celebrate.

        • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

Chima, if they knew he was a mole all along, has it occurred to you to find out why they have not shown him the door like APC did to both Ikimi and SAS?

  • AbujaKenneth

I am not in PDP but Tambuwal is not needed in the party. He is a saboteur that has been working for the interest of Asiwaju Proliferation Congress (APC). He is not honourable at least in my own view because he ought to have resigned as a speaker if he does not want to protect the interest of the party that elected him. He seldom attend their meetings or functions even on invitation but will gladly and hurriedly defend the devilish course of APC at any time. Yet he answers Hon. Speaker Honourable my foot.

    • Tonnero

You are not in PDP? Why do you idyots like lying to yourselves?

  • Gideon Orkar

Eyaa fat tub Tambuwal so because PDP did not invite you, you are now leaving. You were not invited bc everybody knew you are an ACP man so why all the drama?

    • Mr. Abdin

What is the bad thing in associating with his friends, what about the deputy speaker is not with jonathan’s TAN?

      • Gideon Orkar

Oga Abdin can you please write in English? I find it difficult to read or write mumulogy

        • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

The essence of communications is neither flawless grammar nor excellent English; it is simply a two way process of receiving and imparting information.

As long as we understand the message he was passing through; job done.

          • Gideon Orkar

            I did not understand it.

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

            Okay, Gideon.

I am not going to claim a higher level of intelligence over you – just a better imagination and perception.

I have copied the original comment and will put my editing in (parenthesis) so you can go with the flow. Naturally, if the author comes along, he can correct me if I have misinterpreted him.

“What is the bad thing in associating with his friends, (?) (W)what about the deputy speaker(?) (I) is (he) not with (J)jonathan’s TAN?”

A little imagination would have helped, not derision.

          • Gideon Orkar

I rubbed polish on the English, I come even spray holy water and the thing still no let me understand. Please clarify this for. Is APC now same as TAN? one is a political party and the other is not.

You see I dont care if tuby fat cheeks joins APC as politicians in Nigeria have no principles. But in a desperate quest to justify such shameful behaviour, Oga in his mumulogy speak decided to equate APC a registered political party with a parochial movement. Oh well maybe I am the one missing the point as APC might just be a parochial organisation.

            Imagine it for me biko!

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

            Your own pass imagination, biko!

How come your device is still working after you “rubbed polish” and “sprayed it with holy water”?
