LIVE UPDATE: Buhari Presidential declaration

Former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari will today formally declare his intention to contest the February presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at Eagles Square, Abuja.

This will be his fourth attempt. He contested the presidential polls in 2003, 2007 and 2011.

Although he had promised not to contest again, the APC leader said he decided to come out again because of the deteriorating state of the nation.

Mr. Buhari, a retired general, popularly called GMB, will contend with several other aspirants, including a former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, in the primary of Nigeria’s opposition party, come December.

Festus Owete and Sani Tukur are already at Eagles Square to bring you live updates of the event.

EDITOR’S NOTE: This post has been reviewed to correct the impression that a former Governor of Lagos, Bola Tinubu, was at the event. Our reporters heard one of the masters of ceremony at the event made that announcement. But we have since been told that it was the former governor’s wife, Remi Tinubu, a senator, who attended the event in the company of another senator, Babafemi Ojudu. We apologize for the error.

In 1985, IBB was the president of Nigeria and our
teachers told us that Buhari was the former Head of
state. Our teacher also called us “the leaders of
tomorrow” 27 years later, IBB and Buhari are still
contesting for Presidency. Its either our teacher lied
to us about being the leaders of tomorrow. Or
tomorrow is yet to come. Who’s fooling who? In
1983, Bamanga Tukur was the Governor of the
defunct Gongola State (now Adamawa & Taraba) and
30 years later, he is today the Chairman of the
ruling Party, The PDP; Dr. Bello Halliru was
commissioner in the Old Sokoto State (now Sokoto,
Kebbi & Zamfara) and 33 years after he is today
Minister of Defence; Major General David Mark(rtd)
was the military governor of Niger State in 1984
      and 28years later he is today the Senate President;
Gov. Murtala Nyako was the governor of Niger State
in 1976 and 36years later he is today the Governor
of Adamawa State; Ogbonnaya Onu was governor of
Abia State in 1992 and 20years after he is today the
National Chairman of ANPP; Gov. David Jonah Jang
was the governor of Benue State in 1985 and
27years after he is today the governor of plateau
state; and Martins Elechi the Ebonyi State Governor
is over 80 years old! Only in Nigeria is this possible,
where the youth of today have no hope into the
future! From strike in health sector, to the labour,
to judiciary, to Education and today our students are
home languishing! Let Nigerian youth come to an
alliance and fight for the unborn. We can’t continue
like this. Pass it to everyone if you believe in the

We all need to vote out GEJ who believes ‘mere stealing’ is not corruption. Let’s give GMB a chance! Let’s move away from the ethno-religious sentiments being pandered by PDP apologists. We’ve had enough of 15 years of gross incompetence, no power, no security to mention a few.

Dear Forumites, is there anybody on this thread who was not moved at seeing the response of people when GMB drove in?

There is indeed hope for Nigeria.

And why should a give a tyrant a chance? Tell me one single infrastructure developments Buhari established as head of state, and why did he stopped the rail project in Lagos then, jailed Awolowo, Jakande, Fela, and even killed some activists and journalists?
Buhari was Head of states before I was born, and why should I vote for him 30years after?
Yes, i’m a Muslim, but I have family members who are non Muslims, and a religious fanatic like Buhari is not fit to be the President of a secular Nation like Nigeria! Buhari has lost 3 consecutive times, and this because majority of Nigerians are not gullible like some of you who knows the truth but still support him.

    Evils of Buhari Exposed

    By Femi Aribisala

ON Friday, 23rd August, 1985, the military

    government of Major-General Mohammadu Buhari

decided to place me under arrest. My crime was

that I wrote, among others, an article entitled:

“Counter-trading Nigeria’s Future” in the National

Concord, exposing the government’s scam of

diverting public funds into private coffers through

barter-trade with Brazil. A man by the name of

Benson Norman was sent from the State Security

Services (SSS) to my office to get me. Not finding

me, he left a note that I must present myself

unfailingly at the SSS office at 15 Awolowo Road,

Ikoyi Lagos the next Monday morning.

However, on Sunday, 25th August, 1985, Lateef

Aminu came first thing in the morning to my house

to inform me that the government of Buhari/

Idiagbon had been overthrown. For this reason, I

am fond of telling people that God brought about a

change of government in Nigeria just because of

Under the Buhari/Idiagbon regime, once you ended

up at 15 Awolowo Road, you may never be heard of

again. Decree Number 2 of 1984 empowered Tunde

Idiagbon to arrest and detain anybody indefinitely

without trial and without legal reprieve. After Buhari

was overthrown, Mohammadu Gambo opened the

prison doors of 15 Awolowo Road on public

television, revealing people in various stages of

undress and malnutrition that had been kept in the

dungeons without trial by Buhari’s hound-dogs.

As self-imposed Head of State, Buhari had no

regard for human rights. Immediately he seized

power, he announced that he would “tamper with”

the press. Soon, the infamous Decree Number 4

was promulgated which made even the publication

of the truth a punishable offence. Under this cover,

Buhari jailed innocent journalists, including Tunde

Thompson and Nduka Irabo. He abolished civil

    liberties, promulgated retroactive decrees enabling

him to kill Nigerians through jungle justice,

    proscribed civil society organizations and

    professional groups and exercised “absolute”

This same Buhari would now have us believe that

he has gone through some metamorphosis and has

become a democrat. I am sure you will forgive me

if people like me don’t believe him. Buhari is not,

has never been, and will never be, a democrat.

Only in Nigeria would a man with his track record,

who came to power through a military coup that

illegally overthrew a democratic government, now

be acclaimed as a democrat. It is on record that

Buhari’s military regime is the only one in Nigeria’s

history that failed to promulgate a programme for

    return to civilian rule.

So what exactly qualifies Buhari as a democrat

today? Precious little! There is nothing democratic

about forming and joining political parties just in

order to be the presidential candidate. Little wonder

then that Buhari’s parties have a short shelf-life.

Buhari would like to be Nigeria’s head of state

once again. He can no longer achieve this through

the barrel of a gun. The only route now open to

him is through the democratic process. That is the

reason he now conveniently fashions himself as a

democrat. It is merely a means to an end; no

    more, no less.

Buhari’s reputation as an anti-corruption crusader

is also a myth. As head of state, he did not make

any dent in Nigerian corruption. All we got was a

cosmetic “war against indiscipline.” The counter-

trade scam happened under his watch. Rather than

deal with it, he sent his hound-dogs after

nonentities like me who dared to expose it. That

scam was no different, in scope and scale, from the

petroleum subsidy and other corruption scandals

that have since plagued Nigeria. The Petroleum

Trust Fund (PTF) that Buhari headed under Abacha

was also a citadel of corruption. While Buhari

himself might not have enriched himself, his

cronies and those who worked under him did so

On three different occasions, Buhari has run for the

presidency. On three different occasions he has

failed. That should really be enough. If, as seems

likely, he were to run for the presidency a fourth

time in 2015, there is no question that he would fail

yet again. Try as he might again and again,

Mohammadu Buhari can never be President of the

    Federal Republic of Nigeria.

    Buhari’s sectarianism

There is a fundamental reason behind this. Buhari

is a bad politician. He is an unbending former

military dictator and not a democratic consensus-

builder. Like his new ally, Bola Tinubu, Buhari is a

regional, sectional politician. Such politicians are

practically impossible to package and market

nationally in the ethnically-delicate Nigeria of today.

Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory,

Malam Nasir El’Rufai, one of those Northerners who

deserve to be serious contenders for the

presidency of Nigeria, observed that Buhari remains

“perpetually unelectable” as a result of his

“insensitivity to Nigeria’s diversity and his

parochial focus.” This is an elegant way of saying

that politically, Buhari has an uncanny tendency to

put his foot in his mouth. He talks before thinking

of the political implications of his words. He shoots

    from the hip.

The strength of Obasanjo, which enabled him to

capture the presidency on two different occasions,

was that he was perceived as a broadminded

politician, not overly partial to his people in the

South-West. As a matter of fact, in his first election,

his people did not want him. The strength of

Goodluck Jonathan, which propelled him to win the

presidency, was that he was able to string together

a coalition that stretched both north and south of

the Niger. The weakness of Buhari is that he is

totally unacceptable to people outside his region.

Buhari is a Northern regional champion. As head of

state in the 1980s, his government was

unapologetically Northern. No attempt was made to

balance the ticket at the top. It was the only regime

in Nigeria’s history headed by two Northerners.

When he seized power, Buhari put Shagari, the

Northern head of state he overthrew, under house

arrest. But then he jailed Alex Ekwueme, the

Southern vice-president. You may well ask what

makes Shagari less culpable for the misdeeds of

the Second Republic than his number-two man.

The simple fact was that Buhari was Fulani as was

    Shagari; but Ekwueme was Igbo.

At the height of the Sharia debate during the

    Obasanjo administration, Buhari declared that

Muslims should vote only for fellow Muslims. This

was politically suicidal for a man seeking national

office. He became an advocate for implementation

of Sharia all over Nigeria. He protested to the Oyo

State governor, in the context of a dispute between

Fulani herdsmen and indigenous farmers in the

state, that “your people are killing my people.” This

turned out to be unfounded and perhaps the

His threats during the campaign for the 2011

elections incited widespread violence in the North

    after he lost. His supporters went on a rampage;

looting and killing; in spite of the fact that, by all

accounts, the elections were adjudged the most free

and fair in the history of Nigeria’s current

democratic experiment. By the time the mayhem

had subsided, over 1000 people had been

slaughtered in cold blood and some 65,000

Forgetting that a statement made in Hausa would

readily be translated into English, Buhari later

declared unapologetically in a BBC interview: “If

what happened in 2011 should again happen in

2015, by the grace of God, the dog and the baboon

would all be soaked in blood.” These are the

tokens of an irresponsible politician, whose

ambitions for power supersede the national

interest. Who then are the dogs and baboons that

Buhari has in mind to soak in blood if and when he

loses yet again come 2015? Are they his children

or are they those of others?

With the Boko Haram insurgency in the north,

Buhari played to the Northern gallery yet again,

calling the Jonathan government “the biggest Boko

Haram.” Wole Olaniyi was a fly in the wall at a

meeting in Kano Government House designed to

persuade PDP rebel governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to

decamp to the APC. Assuming that only

Northerners were present, Buhari declared the Boko

Haram was a “strategic plan” by the government of

Goodluck Jonathan to “destroy the North.” When

Jonathan declared a state of emergency in Yobe,

Borno and Adamawa states, Buhari still saw this

with Northern goggles, insinuating that the

President is waging war on the North.

Without a doubt, Buhari has massive support in the

North. Indeed, he is the most popular Northern

politician in the North today. But that precisely

remains his undoing at the centre. The more he

has been identified as a Northern champion, the

less attractive he has become as a national choice.

Even in the North, his support base is limited to the

Muslim population. He does not appeal to Northern

Christians. Then there is the added factor of the

opposition of his implacable opponents among the

Northern elite. Men like Babangida and Atiku would

rather die than allow Buhari get to Aso Rock.

One thing is certain, the South-South and the

South-East will not vote for Buhari in 2015. Not

only that; there are no buyers for Buhari’s sectarian

politics in the South-West. No matter what Tinubu

might be telling him, the people of the South-West

will not vote for Buhari in 2015. We already had the

template in 2011, when Buhari tried to sell himself,

first by balancing his ticket with a Yoruba man; and

    then by making sure the Yoruba man is a Christian;

a pastor no less. But it just did not wash. It will not

    work in 2015.

The worst thing that can happen to Northern

presidential aspirations in 2015 is for Buhari to be

on the APC ballot. That is a sure guarantee that the

North will not be providing the next president.

Buhari would be a shoo-in in an election for

president of Northern Nigeria. But in an election

encompassing the entire country, the best he can

envisage is to be a kingmaker. He cannot be king.

The nearest Buhari will get to Aso Rock in 2015 is

by attending the Council of State meetings

Please be courageous enough to mention your presidential candidate so that we compare between the old methods of campaign you presented here and the pedigree of your candidate. All Buhari need is to win the south west and get some reasonable votes from ss and SE which I believed all your write up will not make any impact to stop that. Since Buhari started contesting his votes has being on the increase geometrically, which shows all your propaganda have not being making any impact. This time around game have change, wait and see how votes will count in 2015.

    • samuel BAIKIE

is he a new politician. why are talking as if buhari never rule before.

  • Lorddaniels

From where, one wonders, does this supporter of Muhammadu Buhari get his idea that Buhari is not corrupt or that he is qualified to rule this country again? I ask this because there is absolutely nothing in Buhari’s past or present which bears out any of these assertions. To be entirely honest with you, I have now completely given up on the sanity of Muhammadu Buhari AND HIS SUPPORTERS. You know, in Nigeria, people engage in a lot of futile dissembling and suffer from amnesia and ignorance. President Jonathan is certainly not a saint, but believe me, compared to Buhari’s past and present, Jonathan’s are flawless. I have chronicled details of Buhari’s trajectory several times on facebook based on my good memory as someone who was born and bred in Kaduna. It is only in Nigeria that a man who embezzled N2.8 billion NNPC money while he was Federal Commissioner of Petroleum in 1978 will be described as disciplined, isn’t it? It is only in Nigeria that a man who led the criminal overthrow of a democratically elected government in 1984 would later wish to benefit from the same democracy. It is only in Nigeria that the man who, as Head of State, allowed 56 illegal suitcases of currency notes into the country through his ADC unchecked when there was currency change by his own government in the country at the time would be described as a man of his words. It is only in Nigeria that the man who enacted RETROACTIVE DECREES and used them to murder Lawal Ojuolape, Bartholomew Owoh and Bernard Ogedengbe would be promoted as being better than others. It is only in Nigeria that the man who enacted vindictive decrees which prescribed long jail terms for journalists for publishing stories which embarrassed government officials EVEN IF THE STORIES WERE TRUE resulting in the illegal jailing of Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabor is now better than the President Jonathan who has signed the FOI bill into law to enable all citizens to have unhindered access to information on Government activities. What an irony! It is only in Nigeria that the man who was overthrown in 1985 by Babangida and spontaneous jubilations erupted all over the country would have the guts to seek to replace people who are far better than he. It is only in Nigeria that the man who later accepted appointment as PTF Chairman under the MOST CORRUPT government ever in Nigeria’s history and then commandeered more than 200 PTF vehicles for private use in his home in Kaduna would not be in jail today. Remember, he later said that Abacha did not loot anything from Nigeria! This is the man who, in his supporters’ opinion, will have zero tolerance for corruption! It is only in Nigeria that the man who, as PTF Chairman, embezzled billions of Naira through over-invoicing of supplies and the supply of fake and expired drugs to hospitals is now a disciplined man. Why did Ahmed Salihijo, whose consortium was in charge of all the PTF contracts under Buhari, commit suicide when former President Obasanjo commenced the probe of PTF in 1999? It is only in Nigeria that the man who lost election and incited his supporters to violence which claimed the lives of innocent people including NYSC members and had the nerve to still open his bigoted mouth and criticise actions designed to stop continued madness is now a disciplined man. God! It is only in Nigeria that a former Head of State would ask Muslims not to vote for Christians and, when he is criticised, would later lie on Radio Nigeria, Kaduna, that what he meant was that Muslims should vote for only those who can protect their religion. It is only in Nigeria that a former Head of State would refuse to condemn Boko Haram murderers in their evil activities including bombing innocent Christian worshippers in churches but is quick to support amnesty for the same murderers. It is only in Nigeria that a former Head of State will speak bitterly against a State of Emergency designed to root out monstrous criminals but turns around to advocate finishing off Ombatse cult members who have done exactly the same thing as Boko Haram. It is only in Nigeria that a former Head of State CANNOT speak or write simple and correct English and prefers to speak vernacular most of the time and then his supporters would insist that his meaning was lost in translation. Have you guys ever understood Buhari when he speaks? When this mad bigot overthrew Shehu Shagari in January 1984, he, out of crude tribalism, placed President Shagari (who, according to late Olusola Saraki, presided over most of the shady NPN deals under his watch) under mere house arrest but clamped Vice President Ekwueme (who the tribunals later said was squeaky clean) into Kirikiri like a common criminal. Not done with this naked tribalism, Muhammadu Buhari sent soldiers to ransack Obafemi Awolowo’s residence in Ikenne and harass his household even though Awolowo was not a member of the government that was toppled. And for your information, the only reason why Muhammadu Buhari toppled Shagari’s government in 1984 was that the then Federal Executive Council under Shagari had just traced the missing N2.8billion to Buhari’s foreign account and had just set up a panel to probe and recover the loot. Believe me, any objective, dispassionate analysis of Buhari’s activities must surely come to one conclusion and one conclusion only, namely: The only set of people whose IQ is lower than that of Muhammadu Buhari are his supporters!!!!!stolen from a smart guy

First of all I suspect, I may be right or wrong lorddaniels is not your real name, but the good thing about you is that you are courage to mentioned your presidential candidate jonathan unlike others who only discredit candidates without alternative name. I am a strong supporter of Buhari since 2003 elections up to date. Lets look at the profile of your candidate GOODLUCK JONATHAN.
      1. When terrorist blast bomb and kill several people in Abuja close to eagle square and the terrorists claim responsibility but your candidate out of incompetency he said no the terrorist were not responsible.
      2. The greatest problem of Nigeria is corruption but your candidate have pardon convicted corrupt politicians, thus encouraging corruption in the country.
      3. Your candidate mentioned that stealing is different from corruption, thus, encouraging public servant or politician to steal public fun since is not corruption according to your candidate view.
      4. Muhammad Abacha was accused of corruption and he was charge in court for money lundering money running close to billions of dollars but your candidate withdraw the charges just bcos he will decamp to PDP.
      5. former CBN governor raise the alarm that 10 billion dollars is missing instead of investigating the issue your candidate suspend the former CBN governor while these being accused are still in the government.
      6. The minister of aviation she is accuse of squandering billions upto date no investigation and she is still in the government as minister.
      7. Your candidate have rubbish the fight agains corruption by denying to give fund to EFCC, thus, they cannot investigate and prosecute since they are handicape and denied fund to function.

    • Chris1408

Thank you for you smart analysis. Nigerians have short memory. Buhari is wicked and very tribalistic. He’ll never get close to the seat of power again. So is GEJ. Both have failed and will never rule again.

    • Ogom

My guy, Buhari’s brand is stronger than all this propaganda. It takes decades to build a reputation like his and all your yacking on this forum is unlikely to be its undoing.

Taking about drug pushers executed in 1985? Don’t waste your time please.

  • thetwin

Abiola Khadijat, Please I challenge you to mention the names of the activist Buhari killed. We are not kindergarten students here. Please mention their names. Just cos you don’t like someone, does not mean you got to the extent of labeling him a murderer. Haba, lets be fair even in our criticisms. I await the names of those activists Buhari killed.

    • the truth

Lawal Ojuolape, Bartholomew Owoh and Bernard Ogedengbe. with decree 4

      • djay

what about those that have died in present day Nigeria under Gej without even committing any offence.

      • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

The truth, do you know the meaning of “activists”?

I doubt it, otherwise you would not have given us the names of the 3 drug pushers above as activists.

The above confirms that a lot of you haters and bigots who seek to label Buhari as one of your miserable selves have no clue what you are talking about but simply repeating “things” that you have heard; without even confirming the veracity of such.

  • thetwin

in 1984 when the Buhari-Idiagbon military regime executed Bartholomew Owoh, Bernard Ogedengbe and Lawal Ojuolape, by firing squad for cocaine trafficking. A drastic measure by all standards – since Decree 20 under which they were executed came into force retroactively (after the commission of the offence) – the capital punishment meted out to the trio generated intense controversy but it somehow succeeded in reducing the trade in cocaine for a while. So Oga truth, those guys were cocaine and drug dealers. Mention more names.

      • Ibro

So is the campaign on 82 suitcases, labelling him as a religious bigot and sponsor of BH. Maybe you should also come up with new ones

    • the truth

where is your statistical prove to show that drug trafficking reduced? so u support the idea of shooting people for drug trafficking?

      • Haruna Chiroma

This an outdated campaign issue. The truth is the candidacy of Buhari

      • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

the truth, learning is obviously a difficult thing for you!

I am amazed to see that you read the names of the 3 drugs pushers and the Decree that went against them, yet you went back to another forumite and claimed the 3 drug pushers were “activists” executed under “decree 4”!

Are you just congenitally defective or mentally retarded?

please stop trying to confuse people and involving me in your smear campaign. i mentioned names of people that were killed under buhari for a draconian decree under his government. that are just few names we know about. The question i should ask you is was there a court case for them? was there fair trial for those individuals? was the crime worth firing squad? if those people were your relatives would you open your mouth to say this? when buhari made the comment after loosing the 2011 election that caused hundreds if not thousands of deaths, if your family members were among the deal i doubt you would support this, was it responsible for a presidential candidate? doesn’t it sound awkward to you that this man made the statement of baboon and the blood to incite people? where is the spirit of fair play and character, this same man has ran for president for 4 times now doesn’t that show you desperation? and to let you know i am not a pdp or apc member, as far as i am concerned they are all the same. the same old pdp members who were called all sort of names are now saints in apc. i have never voted for pdp or apc, but that won’t stop me from washing your eyes off this spell you are currently in. open your mind

I think you are inebriated on whatever cheap stuff you have been guzzling, the truth.

            To start with, I have not engaged you on any discussion about Tinubu as you just drunkenly claimed;

I could tell you I am day old baby in response to your question about my age, but it does not obviate your deliberate distortion of facts by callingthose 3 drug pushers as activists killed under decree 4, when this is clearly not. Opinions may be free, but fact are sacred.

As to “washing” eyes, you do need to remove the log from yours first!

You have told too much lies about the person of GMB; worse than I would expect of someone with a diarhoea of the mouth!

          • the truth

i am man enough to apologize for mistaking you for enemona. you guys have the same picture in your profile. where those drug pushers ever tried at the court of law? what are you saying. buhari was the defence, prosecution and firing squad

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

Thanks for being man enough to conceed that conflict, the truth.

But the avatars are of the same person, but not the same picture!

The 3 drug pushers were tried. What people – including me if you wish to know – complained about is the fact that they were tried and executed under a retroactive law! They were not innocent!! The implication and the basis for our grouse then was simply that, even though they were guilty; when they commited the crime, the penalty was not death.

          • Nigerian

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

By the way, Buhari has not contested for the Presidency 4 times as you claimed.

That is another fact you got wrong!

It seems the whole gamut of your position is based on threads made of used toilet roll sheets. why not flush the whole rubbish you have been spewing down the toilet bowl?

          • the truth

3 times he contested and now. how many do you call that? 2003, 2007, 2011 and now 2014.

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

            Now you correct yourself!

You had earlier claimed he contested 4 times; meaning this would have been the 5th time. Unless you are not conversant with the use of past tenses or continuous tenses!!

I don’t want to ‘diss’ you, but your position appear cobbled together on strands of used toilet roll sheets.

Flush it down the drain, I repeat. And it is good advice.

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

I see you have “edited” your claptrap above and still can’t get it right!

Forget about someone being smart because you clearly cannot be a judge of that if I am to go by the level – or the lack of it – of “smartness” you have shown on this thread.

Even if YOU were to tag me as ‘smart’ I’d be worried enough to look over my right shoulder and hope you were addressing someone else!!

Your last poser deserves no response for obvious reasons – they are what I term claptrap.

          • the truth

You are blabbing with no substance.I will never edit anything I posted.go read my initial comment about how many times buhari ran for president.I am class enough to apologize when I err.and I clearly responded to you instead of enemona because u all have buhari s pic.that’s an honest mistake.but all my point s are valid and factual

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

Would this explain your current shambolic state of mind?

Come off the cheap stuff instead of abusing me!

          • the truth

you are coming off as take a look at your picture and enemona’s picture and sincerely tell me the difference. i will not and can never abuse you, i respect you and your views, although divergent from mine, but i will try my utmost best to educate you and not to force or abuse you to join my view. i see some people in this forum are not matured enough for arguments but it is fair to say you believe what you believe and i believe what i believe.i stand by my earlier statement, those individuals killed weren’t giving a fair trial. i leave the rest to you. if you say it was fair enough, that’s fine.

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

            the truth, you prevaricate!

The drug dealers got a fair trial, albeit under a retroactive law.

An unfair trial is one where there was no representation or there are clear cases of miscarriage of justice.

If you want to make a point of the cases of Messrs Ojuolaope et al, then you need to look at it from the view point of the enabling law as opposed to its prosecution.

I did not support or agree with the laws under which the three were tried, but they were not innocent and were therefore found guilty.

          • the truth

my last stance to you is this. if you would shelve the name calling, abuses and curses it would be better. We have come to the juncture where we articulate points without abuses. I may have a different view from you on key issues, but that doesn’t warrant you calling me names. I believe in class and decorum> I have come to see this forum unfortunately as a collection of small minds who when cornered resort to abuses( i must insist not everyone, but a majority of forumites) that should not be the way how it works. But i have come to realise our immediate environment plays a very big part in our mentality and psyche. A society where the term do or die is the norm and it must be my way or the highway is a prevalent theme. I would want a forum where i can argue with kay soyemi esq, wahala and otile without resorting to abusing them if they don’t believe what i believe. How would a world be where everybody believed, what i believed or think the way i think?hmmn stay blessed.

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

the truth, I accused you of prevaricating, but I was not abusive!

Why take offence when none was given?

          • Otile

Eloi Eloi Lamasabactani. Wherein have I done evil onto you my brethren? Where did I exchange words with you in this article? Can you not do your diatribe with him without dragging my name therein? I am for peace, you all are for war and violence. Therefore I look upon the Lord to rescue me from evil men.

          • the truth

It was a General reference.I didn’t mean it to be me and u exchanging abuses.I refered to a day we all in this forum can have arguments without abusing ourselves.I do apologize if it came out in the wrong way

          • Otile

    • Chris1408

That’s exactly one of the reasons he should never rule again. It wasn’t a capital offense when they committed the crime. The same Buhari locked Fela up for currency smuggling and aided a northern emir with suitcases filled with money into Nigeria. That’s not the messiah we need today.

      • Baba

Can you prove that he aided an Emir?

  • Mohd

I think shld humbly step down for GMB. HE Kwankwaso is qualified to run for dat position bcos of tremendous work he has done in Kano but we are pleading for him to step down bcos time is too short for him for trial and he is still a young man who can come any oda time. If d APC big witts are really having interest of d nation in mind, let them just step down for buhari for d sake of masses.

  • balinga

I have been reading comments on here. Most comments are very interesting indeed. I must commend most of you for your informed knowledge on politics of Nigeria. It is more interesting to know the past activities of Buhari. My question now is Buhari is not the right candidate, Jonathan is not the right leader for our country, who is the best person to lead our country Nigeria to green pastures? Just a lingering question…

    • Chris1408

Neither GEJ nor GMB is the man to steer the rudder of the sinking ship called Nigeria. Both men have been there and failed. We need new patriots to handle the affairs of this country.

      • Ibro

So mention one…you’ve mentioned the problem. Give us the solution.

        • Chris1408

Solutions are plentiful, not enough room here to discuss it. Also, neither you nor I can change the rotten political system we currently have.

      • Mosaku 147

Like who? At least you should have someone in mind.

        • Chris1408

None, but let’s clean the current system, create a level playing field, the best candidate will emerge. They said we’re practicing American system. This Nigerian system will never produce Obama. Let’s create a true American system that can produce an Obama

      • Ide4u

You don’t know jack! Unlike GEJ, Buhari did not fail as a leader or in any official capacity

Buari will occupy aso villa come may 29 2015, in Jesus name. All looters take note.

    • Enemona

    • dave

      Amen I join you.

  • Chris1408

Buhari had his time, Nigeria doesn’t need a 100 years old man former ruler now. Nigeria need a vibrant young patriot to clean the rot GEJ is leaving behind. We need to catch up with the rest of the world. A failed 100 years old former ruler is definitely not the answer

    • Oyindamola

Do you have a better “vibrant young patriot” in mind? Anyone better than GMB and I will support without looking back.

      • Chris1408

The current power to the highest bidder system doesn’t permit it. We need to transform our political system to give room for the best candidate not the most corrupt candidate as we currently have. The current system is polluted with thieves, thugs, killers and the worst people in the society. Also allow independent party candidates to run for office.

        • Enemona

          Buhari would do that exactly.

          • Chris1408

Buhari is toxic. We’ve had enough bad rulers. It’s time for Nigeria to join league of progressive nations. We don’t need an old wicked and tribalistic man now. Let the old man go sit somewhere and enjoy his last days on earth.

          • Ogom

            Ok, so who?

          • Chris1408

Is there something wrong if you run for the office? Can you afford to collect form for N27m?

          • Ogom

So you’re saying you had me in mind all along? I’m flattered 🙂

But seriously, answer the question .
Who is this new breed, Y2k politician you expect us to magic out of nowhere.. at this 11th hour?

You made a recommendation, now follow it up with some sensible options?

      • Mosaku 147

        Me too.

      • walejohnson

The APC is allowing the President to come from the North, hence GMB is the only contestant that Jonathan can’t threaten with EFCC. Jonathan is young and educated but what has that given us? He has been a deputy Gov, Gov, vice president and president. The show of support shown for Buhari today did show that he has won the heart of common Nigerians. Compare this show with that of TAN where people were hired. For your information, TAN has8 paid those hired

    • walejohnson

You dont worry about his age for now, his vice will be someone vibrant, educated and a performer like, Oshiomole, Amachie, Fayemi or Okorocha

      • Chris1408

So elect the old man and let the vice do the work. Typical of Buhari, Idiagbon did his job the first time. Why not just elect a vibrant president and vice. So the old man can rest in his home and continue to enjoy his looted funds

    • Ide4u

Buhari has not failed in any official capacity.

  • Preco01

Surgery is not easy especially if you must remove a diseased part( Nigeria is totally diseased). Mohammadu Buhari is

The monkey and baboon story is a metaphor, a figure of speech. OBJ of PDP said “do or die”, another metaphor. Please, get it right.

    • Jakadiya

The monkey and baboon story is a metaphor, a figure of speech. OBJ of PDP said “do or die”, another metaphor.

      • Otile

But why kill biri kuma kare? Why not use a decent form metaphor? He is sure of what he is saying considering that Arewa people he sees as monkeys and baboons are already soaked n blood.

        • Jakadiya

The metaphor is a common figure of speech in Hausa Language. Eg, the match between Sudan and Nigeria ended “kare jini, biri jini”. I’m not defending Buhari but to explain what the metaphor stands for. Just like the OBJ “do or die”, another metaphor or figure of speech. Eg, the match between Sudan and Nigeria is a “do or die” matter for Nigeria.

          • Otile

I thought you were omo Odua, I didn’t know you can speak Hausa fluently. Na so Hausawa too.

          • Jakadiya

I only try to be objective in my submission so that sentiments and misinformation can be thrown to the dogs.

          • Otile

            Me too.

          • Jakadiya

            Thank you, my brother.

Mr. “the truth” my friend, How is business? How is your “Neutrality”? Have you given up on your “Neutrality”? I can see now you have taken side defending some and condemning others. Are you now partisan. Have you decided to get a card from that pa*ty? Are you part of the campaign team of Mr. J….. ? My friend Mr. “Neutral” why have you let me down with all my effort to make people understand that you are “Neutral” and always telling “the truth”. When you stay “Neutral” you ALMOST tell LIES. I guess that’s why you take side now to be seeing as a BIG LIAR and a HYPOCRITE. What do you say?

      • the truth

i am not defending anyone, why don’t you accuse me of been neutral when i am against the pdp? where did i lie? didn’t buhari make this statement? so stating what a presidential candidate said is now taken sides?

        • Nigerian

Mr. “the truth” you know that I have keenly been following your comments just to ascertain your claim of being NEUTRAL and TRUTHFUL. But to my surprise I cannot see any Neutrality or Truth in your comments. Well, I don’t know your own definition of the words “Neutral” and “Truth”. But I think it will be better if you stop these claims and be your true self. I know now “the truth” is being revealed.

          • the truth

i don’t need you to interpret my neutrality. But i stand here with no fear or pressure. Please Nigerian provide any statement that i said in this forum that is non factual or untruthful. I made a statement that buhari gave shagari house arrest and ekwueme spent time in kirikiri, and u made a statement “Mr. “the truth”, You are now taking shape. The TRUE COLOUR of Mr. “the
truth” has been exposed by his SENTIMENTS, ETHNICITY and BIGOTRY. So
No more “NEUTRALITY” now. is stating the true facts now seen as lies or taking sides? did this events not occur?

          • Nigerian

Mr.”the truth” you will not lose anything if you show YOUR COLOUR. It’s better always to say the TRUTH than to be HYPOCRICAL. Give it a TRY it will fetch you what you are looking for.

Imam Buhari is doing this to draw attention, he knows he is not going to win. Before it is over he will he will come out publicly to weep, lament, and swear by the Holy Qur-an that he will do miracles if elected. As soon as the votes are counted he will fume, curse and beat his chest, his minion seeing his mood will go on rampage. Finally, to save face he will proceed to the court accusing the winner of rigging the election.

  • Dr Pat Kolawole Awosan

General Muhammadu Buhari is the only outstanding quality leader that could bail Nigeria out of over fifteen years of PDP contraption governance through which massive corruption practices are the order of the day, there is no security of lives and properties for Nigerians in their own country, power outage continues, education declines in quality, teaching hospitals are archaic while PDP-president Jonathan and wife frequently travel to Germany to obtain adequate medical attention on Nigerian public expense and millions of our graduates and youth face bleak unemployed future.
General M.Buhari is the only hope of our nation compare with PDP outright failure in all strata of governance. If Nigerians should miss this golden chance of electing Gen M.Buhari in order to squarely confront the PDP-ffteen years of massive corruption
practices, imprudency and mis-uses of Nigeria soldiers and police, refurbishing of our four refineries in order to stop fuel-subsidy scam, reduction of the 73% focus of our annual budget on recurrent expenditure and restructure of senate and representatives chambers which must both be made part-time sittngs only in order to reduce the huge expense going on recurrent expenditure, then Nigerria will remain in comatose-state.

  • dave

All the haters of good things are out here to whip up religious sentiments.Nigerians are wiser now.We need a change.Buhari will give this country the change we desire. All this noise about him islamising Nigeria is all lies to deceive the people.Till date the jonathan apologist have not come up with any proof that the man is behind Boko Haram.

    • Tunsj

Nothing is left for me to add, you said it all.

For General Buhari I stand. I know this man is a man of SINCERITY. He will not loot the treasury and will not allow the vagabonds even those in his party to loot. He is a man of VISION – he sees a Nigeria freed of corruption and a Nigeria where our God-given resources are used for development. He is a man of COURAGE – He is the only man for now who can look into the eyes of corrupt politicians and say “I give you 90 days to return all your loot or…” you know the rest. when he was the Chairman of PTF, my University got a big bus for students’ use – we enjoyed it. Many hospitals and schools were renovated and equipped.. This is the man to clean up the mess in Nigeria. Those against him are mischief makers and treasury looters who are afraid of going to jail when Buhari takes over. Their fears will soon become a reality so that we breathe a truly fresh air. Please Nigerians of good conscience, please file out behind Buhari so posterity will not forget you. Thank you.

    Nnaemeka Obiaraeri

It is shocking when young minds, who should know better, erroneously attribute messianic appellations to persons, who had hitherto been part of the problems of Nigeria. If General Mohammad Buhari and his band of mutineers/despots had adopted the Jerry Rawlings model on all the looters, according to them that they sought to dethrone, without introducing the selective nepotistic feature of keeping some of the main actors of 1979-1983 under house arrests, while their subordinates were herded into the darkest part of the Kirikiri Maximum, Nigeria would not have been where she is today.

Was Buhari so naive or uninformed concerning the filthiness and shady characteristics of some of his fellow mutineers then? So much that he hollowly allowed them to throw him out without any form of resistance or whimper, at a period the legendary Tunde Idiagbon was lured out of the country. To add salt upon injury, he even gleefully served under the dark goggled one, one of the most notorious regimes in the history of governance in Africa with sleight and without any tug to his conscience. These were the darkest periods of Nigeria’s history, when the likes of Professor Wole Soyinka were chased out of Nigeria like cows and prominent Nigerians, like late Shehu Musa Yar Adua were murdered like chickens. The very upright one did not see or hear any evil and did not as much as raise a voice against the draconian government of those days. He was blind to the evils of those days, when the whole world was wide eyed. So much for untainted and indiscriminate integrity.

Arguably amongst his generation (especially, those who are still living), he stands a head taller than most of them in the integrity scale, but I still maintain that in a country of 170million people, there abound hundreds if not thousands of Nigerians, who are as honest and if not more honest than him, and who can fare much better in the job he is seeking. Hundreds, who possess, the highest form integrity and moral dignity as well as the complementary skills, capacity, competencies, consolidated political will and impeachable strength of character laced with responsible and responsive leadership qualities

Nigeria is currently tethering on the precipice, and the best/most she needs now is a unifying leader, who has the capacity, competence, cerebral acumen, charisma and impeachable integrity to move her forward. A Leader whose influence cuts across geographies, religion, tribes, tongues and generations. A man who comes with top class trans-generational/ trans-religious equity.

If in this age and time, my generation and the immediate generation after us do not have implicit trusts in our capacity to reinvent and rebirth Nigeria into that great nation that we seek it to be. If our hope is still being tied on the apron strings of men and women of yesterday, who were and are still part of the larger Nigerian problem, then, it is a great shame. If some of my generation still feels strongly that their hope lies with a man who was a state governor at 31, minister of petroleum at 34 and head of state at 41 and yet assumes that he is the messiah that must occupy Aso Rock for Nigeria’s rebirth, then, it is a great pity. We are where we are today because most 30 year olds in Nigeria do not even know their rights and obligations to themselves, to Nigeria and to mankind.

I refuse to buy into the ill-informed hysteria that only one man, who has overtime shown that the problems of Nigeria are way beyond his mental, technical, cerebral, skills and sociopolitical capacity/competencies to fix is the one fit key to our Eldorado. I truly shudder at our general mentality in this nation. God help us.

    • Bala

Assuming all you said is true, in your honest opinion of the whole presidential aspirants in both PDP and APC, who can deliver better?

    • BigBlaq

no need to complete reading ur post but i must hand it to u, u av ur ways with words and to a short-sighted reader u seem absolute, but in reality ure way so wrong, u even tried to fault buhari for idiagbon’s ouster instead of crediting him for d herculean changes and leadership he displayed by allowing idiagbon free-hand to keep our dear nation forward.u failed to even understand dat he was a military thus, deres difference in reasoning now and then, he was never blind to corruption, infact it was the perpetrators of corruption that facilitated his coup. u need to come up with unbiased points without any prejudice. Our problem is deeply rooted in corruption and the most credible answer is “Buhari” except u can prove to me its “Jonathan” or “Atiku” then ur whole grammar is in vain, and besides no one said one man will be able to solve our problems, ure a CEO of a company doesnt mean u do all d work 4d company does it ?

  • Nwokolo

Congratulations GMB, Congratulations Nigeria for this new BREAK. This is it!

  • We have gotten to a stage in the life of this country that any Nigerian who is ready to lead the country out of the present doldrums is welcome irrespective of tribe or religion. We need a leader who is forthright, committed and focussed with ability to fight corruption to a standstill, not a weakling who is being manipulated to commit unpardonable governance errors by those that are bent on milking the country dry.

  • OSA

I am positively overwhelm by the turn out of this event, APC please do your home work give us a credible primary and by God grace Buhari will emerge to do us proud again in this nation Nigeria. We need a radical change at least for 4years to put this country on the right track, then we the youth can take it from there. god bless Nigeria.

  • JB

There’s nothing new about Buhari. His simply part of Nigeria’s unfortunate history. The only difference between him and most of the politicians routing for him is that he is too rigid to cross carpet. Watch out….most of his followers will abandon him as soon as he loses. Do an analysis of all those abusing PDP and you will find out they have no integrity. They have moved between two or 3 parties depending on where the grass is green

    • anasin

i dont think wat u r saying is write. if u talk of history, wat do u have to say about GEJ? so get to accept d truth

    • Unbilled Wizard

……so do we continue on a slippery slope?
Right now, we r on autopilot with no one in control.
We still have to make a choice!
I’m not saying GMB is a saint either but he would tackle corruption, which is singular thing that needs to be addressed before we can make any meaningful development.

  • Buhari is an Islamist

    Not in Nigeria

Buhari is an advocate of Sharia. Sharia abhor non-Muslims. Anywhere sharia is in practice is a dead zone to non-Muslims. Non-Muslims are not save under sharia rule. We have no such thing like Boko-Haram and Hisbah police not until the introduction of Sharia by Buhari and Northern Muslim. Buhari in power means dead to non-Muslims. Buhari supports Sharia law(beheading of non-Muslims).

This is an awareness campaign on the impeding danger non-Muslims will face should an Islamist emerge as leader. All advocates of sharia are Islamist. All terrorist want to implement sharia law. Osama Bin Laden, ISIS, Boko-Haram, and others are advocate of Sharia rule, so is Buhari, an advocate of Sharia rule. Sharia means dead to non-Muslims. Sharia abhor non-Muslims.

Non-Muslims are infidel, filthy and pigs in a Sharia environment thus a candidate for beheading. Majority of non-Muslims in Nigeria are too poor to pay the prophet Mohammed tax called Jizya(jizya or jizyah is a per capital tax levied on a section of an Islamic state’s non-Muslim subjects).

Boko-Haram are here to implement Sharia rule, so is Buhari. Buhari will systematically implement sharia rule(the killing of non-Muslims). He systematically sentenced Fela Kuti to jail with Sharia law. Non-Muslims will go into extinction should an Islamist Buhari emerge as president. Non-Muslims should be prepared to go into exile or face genocide. Somalia, Afghanistan, Yemen, Saudi-Arabia and Iraq are all sharia nations with continuous killing of non-Muslims, a dead zone for non-Muslims.

Again, Non-Muslims are infidel, filthy and pigs in a Sharia environment thus a candidate for beheading. Say NO to Sharia rule.

    • Unbilled Wizard

Please, provide us with proofs and NOT hearsay.
In Buhari’s govt; of the 17 ministers, 8 were Christians.
That was when as the head of state under a military rule, he could have chosen all of them to be of Islamic faith (with nobody to question him), yet he didn’t do that.
He’s no doubt a saint but better than the clueless one we have now.
We still have to make a choice between GMB & GEJ!!!

  • abucheadams

Buhari most understand that campaign is not about mobilising crowed, have not seen how the crowed has fetch him the presidency office over the years.
The major problem about his campaign is that he has not been able to tell Nigerians what he will do concerning our poor education system, unemployment,
Agriculture , infrastructure and power; skill acquisition; security; citizenship and governance.
I feel Atiku has led the way through is campaign policy, he has equality proven he understand the challenges facing us as a nation and the solution to the problems.
APC must tell us how they want to make the change happen by producing a strong contender. It is high time we began running campaigns based on issues and not sheer sentiment.

    • tijan kabba

As much as you have made valid points here, it is important that you know that all of the problems of this country stem from a branch of corruption. GMB can fix this corruption issue and every other problem will be solved consequently

  • Saint

Mr GMB is a serial loser, Mr Atiku Abubakar is his close mate, Let’s pray that the blood of dogs and baboon won’t soak in blood in 2015 because that GMB game plans
