Obasanjo cleared me of drug charges, hates me now because of Jonathan – Kashamu

The Chairman of the Organisation and Mobilisation Committee for the South West Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Buruji Kashamu, has accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of launching a campaign of calumny and blackmail against him.

Mr. Kashamu made the accusation on Monday in Abeokuta, in reaction to a statement by Mr. Obasanjo, who urged the leadership of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to do away with figures such as Mr. Kashamu, who is wanted in the United States on drugs-related charges.

In his response, Mr. Kashamu said he will “defeat” the former president at all cost, and dismissed Mr. Obasanjo’s statement as “yet another cocktail of lies served with his legendary deceit”.

“The reason I have become the target of Obasanjo’s wicked campaign of calumny and blackmail is his perceived loss of political relevance in Ogun State and the South West. He is against the second term ambition of President Goodluck Jonathan and he had wanted to use the erstwhile National Secretary, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; the former National Auditor, Bode Mustapha and the ex-National Vice-Chairman, Segun Oni, to thwart Mr. President’s re-election,” Mr. Kashamu said.

Mr. Kashamu is accused of drugs trafficking by the U.S. authorities, an allegation he denies. A U.S. Court recently rejected Mr. Kashamu’s appeal for the charges to be dismissed.

In an earlier statement in 2013, Mr. Obasanjo had criticised the PDP leadership for retaining Mr. Kashamu as a leader of the party in the southwest, the former president’s region.

In the latest statement, Mr. Obasanjo said Mr. Kashamu remains one of the reasons he has refused to resume an active role in the ruling PDP.

Mr. Kashamu dismissed the former president’s “diatribe”, saying what Mr. Obasanjo has refused to tell the world is that during his first tenure as president, Mr. Obasanjo and a former Beninoise President, Matthew Kerekou, directed relevant security agencies to give evidence that exonerated him (Kashamu) of drug charges.

“That was why the Interpol in Nigeria and Benin Republic as well as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) came to the London courts in 2000/2001 to give evidence during my incarceration and trial. That also explained why when I returned I became his associate,” he said.

“He used me to prosecute his battle against former Governor Gbenga Daniel. When it was time to field candidates for the 2011 general elections, he brought his stooge, Gen. Adetunji Olurin, and asked me to roll the party structure behind his anointed candidate.

“In his usual holier-than-thou manner, he talked about not being able to work with me because of his principles, honour and integrity. But the questions Nigerians should ask him are: where were his principles when he used to take me into the inner recesses of his abode?

“Where was his honour when he served me breakfast, lunch and dinner in his Hilltop mansion? Where was his integrity when he mounted the rostrum to sing my praises, praying for me as he did in May 2010 during a reception for the former Minister of Commerce and Industry, Senator Jubril Martins-Kuye? I can go on and on,” he said.

Mr. Kashamu denied he was wanted in the United States.

“Even if that were the case, there are processes and procedures to follow, and they are not subject to anyone’s whims and caprices, not even Obasanjo’s because no man is God,” he said.

“As I have continually stated, I have never in stepped my feet into the U.S neither do I have any business there. I was wrongly accused, arrested, tried and freed over the same indictment. Indeed, my arrest, detention and trial were at its behest and the U.S Authorities fully participated in the whole extradition proceedings.

“If after a full trial on the basis of the same indictment, the British courts exonerated me, which other indictment is Obasanjo talking about? What happens to the general principle of International Law on double-jeopardy? It is commonsensical that even without any judicial pronouncement the indictment is technically dead.

“I cannot be tried by the same parties over the same issues again. While I would do a more detailed response to Obasanjo’s relentless tirades against me in due course; it is high time he retraced his misguided steps. He should borrow a leaf from a time–tested Yoruba proverb which says those who dance naked with glee in the night would have themselves exposed to shame when the morning comes.

“Although he is seen as Goliath, I would triumph over him the same way the almighty Allah Subhana wa tala used me in rescuing the party from his vice-grip in Ogun State, in particular and the South West, in general,” Mr. Kashamu emphasised.

So you admit that your clearance by Interpol in London was arranged ?

Oya carry your bag and go the USA and stop making noise my friend.
With people like this how can Buhari be allowed to rule us.
Not only a practicing Baron like this man even those arested before he became the Head of State were executed when he promulgated the Drug laws in the Eighties.

  • kwango

What is this man’s job? Is being friend of the president a job? If Obasanjo gave evidence that exonerated you, that means he knows you well as a drug kingpin. Why aee you then denying the known fact?

  • I Hate Sycophant Truly

This man Kasumu has no shame at all. You just recently appealed against the your case but it was thrown out. I will advice you Kasumu to take a stroll to USA and then we shall see the result. I know USA is not Benin republic that the president will sent his presidential jet to bring you.

    • Alcindo Satori

how about his exoneration in the British courts? did you forget that too? Abi na Benin republic alone you see?

      • Onike24

He was never Exonerated! both the Magistrate and high court did not try the substantive case, they addressed the issue of extradition warrants and proving the identity of Kashamu, who was ONLY released because official of the NDLEA lied! They gave false testimony if you read the court transcripts you will weep for Nigeria! And this criminal is unrepentant! Having said that Obasanjo has questions to answer he probably regrets getting involved with this this Criminal but it serves him right, he should know that you cannot trust a drug dealer; a peddler of death! On the bright side, ” Orange is the new black ” is a fantastic series!

      • I Hate Sycophant Truly

Yes, he was exonerated in the British court. Pls can you plead with your friend Kasumu to go for a day vacation in USA and we will be very sure he was exonerated in the British court. Yeye dey smell.

Kashamu is going down… mark my words… but he needs to fight to ensure Jonathan remains in power so that he will enjoy protection…however, from next year, after jonathan must have been kicked out… this shameless drug lord will be on his way to jail where american hardened criminals will “fok” his ass…a dey laugh oooo!

    • Wähala

Dumbo will be flushed into the soakaway… and down goes our le Baron. Orange is the New Black, indeed! Olosi. Tons of Respect jare for hitting him hard with your lyrics…

  • Dr. Kay

Mr. Buruju Kashamu all the epistle and hot air you blowing are just too lame . Please travel to the USA and go clear your name that is now in tatters cause you are known as a drug lord and drug baron,if you are cleared, then we will accept your innocence .

    • eBusinesz

not necessary. Interpol should order an international warrant for his arrest, if they have anything against him

  • Otitokoro

Buruji Kashamu, abi what do you call yourself,(your name does not even sound like a Yoruba name, it is possible you have doctored it), as Yoruba we know ourselves. Anyway, let us talk more about the allegation against you. In order to free yourself I have a PRACTICAL TEST for you. Go to the American embassy. Apply for a visa. Go back and forth the United States, let us see what will happen to you. All your name droppings will not help you at least among us Yorubas. It may help you among those you need money from and who gave you contract with which you bought kerosene and distributed during elections in Yoruba land. But among members of the middle class in Yoruba land? in the Western part of the country? Please forget it. You lost it. In any of the parties, a person like you can NEVER be a leader. God forbid. Now I am talking about members of the middle class in the Western part of our country. You can take your kerosene all over the place-but we middle class Yorubas know our history. It is a long and rich history-You are an alleged Drug Baron. You cannot be the face of Yorubas in any of the parties. So please just stop all your name droppings. They will not work. You are finished, and that is it.

    • Mosaku 147

Apply for visa ke? He should simply step his foots on American soil ( embassy grounds ). Shigidi sere ete.oni kon gbe hun losi odo lo swim.

  • kolasaidu

Kashamu could not be serious when he said because UK court exonerated him, he could not be tried again in the US. If he is sure he is innocent, let him get on the next plane to the U.S. to prove his innocence. His claim that he has never set his foot on the U.S. soil does not hold water as you can operate as a drug baron from anywhere in the world.
As for his vituperations against Obasanjo, he should learn to keep his mouth shut if he has a grain of wisdom still left in him. Fools they say rush in where the Angels fear to thread. Obasanjo’s has become an institution you have to handle with kid gloves.

    • eBusinesz

you carefully omitted his close to OBJ as highlighted and how Obansanjo Openly praised him as pointed out – So morals suddenly change overnight. if he has been convicted please let have these evidences.

  • D1

Hello, hello, Kashamu, Abi you dey craze? I thought you said you are not the alleged druggy! Why all this rambling and crying? If you are sure of ya self, oya forward march to US. Why you dey flex for Naija?

We know who you be, if you like hide for Jona sokoto or Patience purse, when time reach, you go answer ya papa’s name. Ole, Olosha!

Buruji, Rest assured Baba will deal with you !

  • kolasaidu

I am less concerned about Kashamu’s yester-years’ relationship with Obasanjo because it was pplitical. I am more concerned with whether he is truely a drug baron or an innocent man as he claims. There is only one man in the world who can remove the allegation hanging on Kashamu’s neck like an Albatross. That is Kashamu himself by taking the next available plane to the U.S. to prove his innocence.

    • George

      most everybody go to yaakee

    • Wale

Actually, he doesn’t have to go to the US; all he has to do is go to the US embassy in Lagos or Abuja, along with the court documents that exonerate him.
Once you step beyond the gate of the embassy, you are now in US territory, he could be arrested or let go. And they might give him a free ride to the State of Illinois were the allegedly crime was committed.

  • Strong System

Buruji sounds and looks like a drug addict.
But Obj has no shame that he is only knowing that now

  • Anonymous11443

ALL Buruji Kashamu needs to do is take the next plane to the USA and see if he returns.A whole lot of American law enforcement officers and yours truly will be waiting for him.

  • Wähala

Drug Baron, Kashamu Buruji, should note there is a saying in America: The FBI always get their man! Talking nonsense about double jeopardy as if he’s a lawyer is on this side of the pond, let him cross the Atlantic and see why the movie made in his honor was a hit. If he was so sure, why did he appeal his indictment? He should have ignored the Yankees on the premise that he was tried and acquitted by the Crown’s Court. Fact is, he deceived the Brits by claiming the identity of his dead brother. But now that science has been used to nail his true id, he is better off lying low than mouthing-off at Baba Iyabo, an ex-Bootleg, ex-President, current Chairman of Drug dis-n-dat… with wide-reaching contacts. Baba can organize his CIA boys to kidnap Buruji and deliver him to promised land. If I were Kashamu, wallahi, na beg I go beg Baba to use his international clout to calm down the Americans. Drug hustling is seriously frowned on… ask Col. Oliver North!

    • George

Most he go to yaakee and to do what.

      • Wähala

Fraud. Yesterday, you were @Wawara… today, you’re @Geroge. Only a criminal like you will defend a wanted drug lord. Do you know the damage drugs cause around the world on daily basis? I guess not…
because you’re a basehead Aborigine baztard. Read your comment again and change “most” to ‘must’… Drunkard!

    • Onike24

On the bright side it is a fantastic series and brought a Nigerian American talent into prominence! So it’s not all bad hehe

    • Tunsj

Whether he likes it or not, the US Justice Dept will find him and he is going straight to federal prison.

    • Chima

He is not likely going to get Visa from the American Embassy. However if the Americans want him they don’t need OBJ or anybody for that matter they will come and get him. All the whole cock and bull story(for or against) cant stop the Americans if they need him.

      • Wähala

Do you think Americans are that lawless as to come to Nigeria and just “kidnap” Kashamu…
Pal, not all nations are as lawless as Nigeria, US justice system will simply toss the case bcos you can’t violate their law to enforce it. Get a life!

        • Chima

Wahala, I thought you know what is called extradition treaty. Former Mint Boss his case for extradition is being heard in court. In any case Interpol and FBI know this. So the point is US has no need for him. Before now some drug barons,419 king pins and other criminals have been extradicted to the US from Nigeria. My friend you waste so much words and time arguing ” the unnecessary “.

          • Wähala

Read your comment again… since you know about extradition treaties and Buruji is not consciously going to approach American Embassy for visa, then why bother? He is charged by the State of Illinois… had he been a terrorist wanted by the US Feds, trust me, there is something called “rendition” project by the CIA and they won’t wait for your lengthy Interpol process to tow the clown to Gitmo. Go-siddon!

          • Wale

Chima: Wahala is correct, On the one hand, Buruji’s case is with the State of Illinois for dealing and distribution of illegal substance not with the Unite States of America. That would have been importation and intent to distribute,
On the other hand, His carriers that got caught for bringing the substances to the US named him as the owner and financier of the trips. And there were many of them that were tried and sentence to the penitentiary.
So, my point is; Mr. Buruji do not have to waste his hard earned money and come to the US, all he has to do to clear his name is go to the American Embassy in Lagos or Abuja and tell them his name and present the court deposition documents that exonerate him and that would make OBJ keep quiet on his case of evading prosecution.
I bet he would find himself in Houston or New York within 24 hours.
There’s no extradition agreement between State of Illinois and Nigeria, but is one between Nigeria and USA.

  • Historian

Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo lost his case by having embraced Buruji Kashamu.
That official association makes nonsense of Obasanjo’s latter-day moral preaching.
Here is the photo of Obasanjo and Kashamu together on a campaign trail.

    • I go die o!

I beg una. I can’t shout. Is this not Obasanjo and Kashamu together in public? So, how can Obasanjo say he can’t imagine himself associating with the same Kashamu? But they have been together in public like this, with Kashamu as his right hand man. Obasanjo should just go and sit down somewhere. You spend your life associating with Kashamu before the world at large, and now, you come and say how can you explain associating with the same Kashamu.

        …………….Kashamu Buruji

        (12th January, 2014)

        • TRUTH MASTER

No one is interested in this nonsense. Kashamu should go and clear his name in the US. OBJ was not the one who is trying Kashamu in America. And Obj is not the one on trial. It is Kashamu.

          • Derrick

America had its day in London court against Kashamu Buruji and lost the case.
The U.S Department of Justice had put in all the evidence it had against Buruji.
The bundle of evidence included tapped phone conversation, documents,
witness identification, and, letters from Nigeria’s NDLEA. The British Magistrate
evaluated all the evidence and declared Buruji Kashamu free. That extradition case
was not appealed and therefore stands on the record as final judgement. And so,
America is not entitled to take two bites at the cherry having put in all its evidence.

          • Wähala

Kashamu beat the London case by claiming there was a mix-up in identities, that it was his late brother and not him that was the drug lord. Besides, in-between, new evidence could have been unearthed to rope him in. That fact that US courts revisited his case and reinstated his criminal case (which he appealed & lost) means he has a case to answer. Like someone said, the choice should be an easy one… the PDP have to choose between a wanted drug lord and an ex-President. And, like you aptly said: “(PDP) is not entitled to take two bites at the cherry” with wanting Baba’s return and retaining Kashamu!

          • akin

“The British Magistrate evaluated all the evidence and declared Buruji Kashamu free.” Just like Nigeria judge set Ibori free!!!
The case in UK; was it between USA government & Buruji? Let him go to US and enforce the judgement.
Even the name Buruji, is it his real name or … (in Yoruba land the name means something else o).

          • Chima

It will be more appropriate to say “I am not interested in this nonsense” not “No one is..).

    • Wale

They worked together when the case was being investigated in the US; They fell apart when the reports were released and the trials followed by convictions of Kasamu’s associates occurred.
Unlike some people, OBJ is a very principled man.

Please keep God’s name out of your criminalty, go to America and fight to clear your name. Otherwise please keep quiet.

When did obj become the American court that kashamu is referring to as having cleared him? I really pity this omo ita.
Obj has never hidden the fact that he is against Jona’s ambition.kashamu is too small a fry that the presidency will not let go for OBJ’s support. However this plays out, kashamu will be the loser.

With election 90 days away, Obasanjo is stranded in Yorubaland PDP, without a voice or a clout.
Buruji Kashamu is the PDP pointsman and he’s the first line of contact with President Jonathan.
General Obasanjo now needs Yorubaland PDP to save face from utter irrelevance he’s fallen worldwide.
That is why he is fighting tooth and nail to get rid of Buruji Kashamu and replace him in Yorubaland.

Jimmy Carter, ex U.S President lately declared Obasanjo ‘a slow learner’ and distanced himself.
Nelson Mandela; who met Obasanjo twice, was disappointed at Obasanjo’s crudity and mental vacuity.
When the most prestigious international global Elders Forum was formed in 2007, Obasanjo was excluded.
In 2007, Obasanjo was then 70 years old and had been head of state for 11 years but was still found unfit.

No western government invites Olusegun Obasanjo for Nigerian matters anymore despite his 11 years in office.
President Obama excluded Obasanjo from the guest-list at the inauguration of 1st black-American president.
Till date President Obama has refused to meet with Obasanjo whom he sees as having nothing good to contribute.
When Obasanjo’s 1999-2007 tenure was globally condened as ‘a failure of governance’ on all civilized indices –
the Board of the African Leadership, under the Chairmanship of Mo Ibrahim, declared also Obasanjo a failure.

“You were the brain behind your 2006 third [3rd] term debacle. It is therefore outrageous
that you accuse the current President (Jonathan) of similar two-facedness that you yourself

used against the people of the country. You are one of those petty people who think the progress

and success of another takes from you; as you try to overshadow everyone around you, before you,
      and, after you.”

“You are the prototypical ‘Mr. Know it all’.. You’ve never said “I don’t know” on any topic, ever.

Of course this means you surround yourself with idiots who will agree with you on anything and need you for
financial gain, and, you need them for your insatiable ego. Your attitude is a reflection of the country. It is not certain which came first – your attitude seeping into the country’s psyche or the country accepting your
      irresponsible behaviour for so long”.

Can this man just keep quite and stop digging further into his own pit.You are accused of a crime in America and you saying Obasanjo cleared you in Nigeria.Take a trip to America and return to prove Obasanjo wrong. Its simple as abc.

    • Bodunde

No, no, no! Why should Buruji Kashamu keep quiet? He should expose
Olusegun Obasanjo very well as a hypocrite. Because Obasanjo was
taking money from Kashamu right, left and centre for many years. At
that time, Obasanjo was chopping the money and enjoying it, and, even
begged Kashamu to donate to his (Obasanjo’s church). Now, Obasanjo is
saying he can’t associate with Kashamu but without returning all the
money he took from Kashamu. What sort of fraud is that? If Obasanjo has
any principle he should not pocket drugs money in the first place. But
having taken it, he should first of all return it, before he can be
heard talking about ‘principles’. As long as Kashamu’s money is in
Obasanjo’s pocket, which he (Obasanjo) has not denied, it follows that
Obasanjo has no mouth to talk – no principle at all, just hypocrisy!

It is ordered that the funds in the amount of $460,000 in account 263226700 held by First Heritage Bank in the name of Bola Tinubu are forfeited to the United States pursuant to 21 USC 881(a)(6) and 18 USC 981.
It is ordered that First Heritage Bank shall issue a check in the amount of $460,000 payable to Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago terminating case Mailed notice (fce)

Of course I need not go into the issue of Bola Tinubu’s real identity, his birth name isn’t even “Tinubu” for starters, nor do I need to rehash the issue of his falsified tertiary academic records.

While the world was protesting against Shell Oil and the Abacha Administration for the pollution of the Niger Delta and the hanging of Ken Saro-Wiwa, Bola Tinubu secretly owned and operated a Shell Oil Station in Washington DC. This is despite the fact that he was a part of NADECO and was publicly involved in condemning Shell Oil and the Abacha administration.

Indeed, Bola Tinubu is a shining example of a person who has extremely low moral turpitude. In my 20+ years of observing his operations, I realized long ago that If he has to choose between personal profit and doing the right thing, the former always wins.

Yet OBJ didn’t see anything wrong with him (Bola Ahmed Tinubu — BAT) as a political leader in his zone….

Obasanjo and Tinubu were never in thesame political party, and nobody ever asked Tinubu to be Obasanjo’s leader. You biafrians can’t think straight.
