Bala Ngilari Sworn in as Adamawa Governor

Breaking News

Bala Ngilari, the deputy governor under impeached Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State, has been sworn in as the new governor of the state.

The acting Chief Judge of the state, Justice Ambrose Mammadi, swore Mr. Ngilari in Wednesday, hours after a federal court in Abuja sacked the acting governor of the state, Umar Fintiri.

Mr. Fintiri, a former speaker of the state House of Assembly, took over after the impeachment of Mr. Nyako and the controversial “resignation” of the deputy, Mr. Ngilari.

Mr. Ngilari had complained that his “resignation” letter, constitutionally required to have gone to the ousted governor, was instead received and acted upon by the then speaker, Mr. Fintiri.

An Abuja Federal High Court on Wednesday granted Mr. Ngilari’s request that Mr. Fintiri be removed and he be sworn in immediately as governor.

Justice Adeniyi Ademola held that Mr. Ngilari did not resign from office as deputy governor in line with Section 306 (1) (2) and (5) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

The judge also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to stop the state governorship bye-election slated for Saturday, October 11, and granted all the reliefs sought by Mr. Ngilari.

Congratulations to the new governor sworn in. I believe the rule of law is now coming to stay in Nigeria….

  • Dr Pat Kolawole Awosan

Democracy is taking root in Nigeria.Good political development as PDP lost the governorship seat back to the rightful owner.
Governor Nyako and Ngilira were elected as governor and deputy governor and with president Ebele Jonathan behind the scene anti democracy push for the impeachment of governor Nyako his deputy Ngilira supposed to be sworn into office but was bypassed for PDP member-who was speaker of Adamawa State house of assembly. At last the constitution has taken its right position.

Sorry, you called yourself a DOCTOR, are you just ordinary professional doctor or an Academic Dr? If you are part of the latter group, then you are a shame to the academic community. Barrister James Bala Ngilari was never an APC member, he never decamped to APC with Nyarko, he never at any time joined APC. So, I wonder how you come to your conclusion. This is an open forum, there are several scholars here, so you need to always cross-check your facts before you penned them down for public consumption.

      • odia

Do you have to abuse somebody to make your point?
If the guy does not get the facts correctly, you may correct him. Why the abuse?

  • Iroro

If you are such dull people, the wise will always have their ways. Imagine the scenario! Bury yourself in shame, ie, if at all you have any.

  • Wähala

    RESPECT!
To Justice Adeninyi Ademola for standing truth upright, and congratulations to Gov. Ngilari for his dexterity in the face of a Palace Coup… evil cannot be allowed to prevail good. Allahu-Akbah… even Ribadu will agree with me. Hahahaa chai !!!

    • Cypo

It still the same PDP judgement, from a PDP man to another PDP man.

      • Wähala

        • Citizen

What has this got to do with issue at hand? Always talking out of point. You are confused because you just said that Asari is in Cotonou jail. Stop drinking kaikai and stop smoking weed wahala is what you are looking for

          • Wähala

Na you dey on kai-kai… where did I say Cotonou on this page?

  • Cypo

This is still the same PDP judgement. From a PDP acting Governor to a PDP substantive Governor.

  • Psalm 35

My mantra has always been Nigeria first irrespective of whose ox is gored, this is a victory for democracy especially if we pretend to practice it. A DG never addresses his resignation to the SASS, it is not constitutional hence doesn’t hold. It may have been a masterstroke by Ngilari while the heat and blackmail was on to ensure he plays along and doesn’t get impeached while at the same time knowing he stands to be reinstated. The appeal by Fintiri at the C of A is a failure waiting to happen except the constitution is rewritten before then to state the SASS is empowered to accept resignation letters of DG’s.

I have no qualms with this ruling as long as the boko haram apologist Nyako and his militant party does not return to govern the Adamawa people

  • Funmi

If Court can sit and make this judgement and for it to be enforced less than 24 hours, why is that challenging Fayose’s eligibility in Ekiti is still being disrupted and delayed? It is 7 days to swearing in that State. Justice Delayed is Justice Denied

    • Chris1408

The answer is simple, Fayose is a PDP thug, PDP thugs are above the law in Nigeria.

      • Tunsj

I was about to say the same thing!!

  • Rambunctious Billionaire

    Democracy is beautiful…..

    • Psalm 35

Very true my brother, especially when it upholds right over wrong

  • Clara

Power is transient. Finturi woke up an acting governor but shall sleep tonight as ordinary house of Rep member.

    • Kadeer

House of Rep ke!? House of assembly jare.

  • udoka

    Nuhu ribadu how market????

    • Mohstone

My brother … tell am well well make him hear. I said it that Ribadu has buried his ambition by joining the thieves in PDP.

  • Truthometer

    Confusion break bone, yeepa!!!

  • joe

At least those that sent terrorist to Michika and Madagali local councils should be ashamed of their actions. Just because of power, politicians sent their foot soldiers to destabilize our communities. Everyone should know that we are living in two worlds- the spiritual world and the physical. God is on the throne. Shame to politicians that sponsored terrorist because of political office.

  • Wise Head

the more you look, the less you see, na soo!!!

  • edu

That’s a cheering news for the adherents of the rule of law….however, the hurry expiated by the FG in enforcing the judgment is suspect, though i am not surprised… I can see the marks of the FG in the whole process depicting the dumping of Finitiri after being used to impeach Nyako…. That’s good for a greedy Finitiri and a big lesson for lawmakers…

  • Dan Fulani

A piece of advice for Fintiri. If you have ten items of anything with you and PDP asks you for all the items, give them one and hold nine, when they come for more give them half of one and keep the rest, this way you will go far with them. Yanzu kam sai ka San Inda dare ya maka don uban ka, shege matsiyaci dan kutare. To Allah jabhi a timmata e duniyaru du djam.

  • tuco

This is real political drama, interesting for that matter. What a sudden twist of events. Used and dumped mr Fintiri.

  • Son Of Naija

    Where is Nuhu Ribadu??
