Why I’m running for president again — Buhari

Muhammadu Buhari, APC presidential candidate

A former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday said he would contest the 2015 presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

He said he decided to run because the Peoples Democratic Party-led federal administrations from 1999 till date were purposeless and that there appears not to be a government in place in Nigeria at present.

Mr. Buhari, who disclosed this in Abuja while addressing about 60 different groups urging him to run for the presidency said he would make his declaration formal on October 8.

The APC leader criticised the PDP-led administration since 1999, saying they lacked purpose. He said in the circumstance, it is important for him to step in to seek an opportunity to salvage the situation.

According to him, “Today, we are in the 15th year of purposeless leadership by the PDP and all we have seen is unprecedented deterioration in the security and law and order situation, astronomical rise in the incidence and intensity of corruption, and in the failure of governance.

“And as we reach this last lap of the journey, I would like to request that we concentrate all our effort and energy toward realising and achieving change in how this country is run.

“The only way to meaningful change in this country is to vote the PDP out of power to which it was never legitimately elected, anyway. The task before us today is wide ranging and very great. The first and most important is to take away power from those who have been misusing it.

“Indeed, except for the call of patriotism, public-spiritedness and an abiding love for the people off this country, nothing will today make honest, honourable and sane politician want to be saddled with Nigeria and an economy in trouble and a society in even deeper trouble – with its perilous security situation, with its extensive and almost unmanageable corruption and with its pervasive lawlessness. And a government – is there really a government? – that is not working.”

A former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, had last week declared his intention to contest the presidential election on the same APC platform, Nigeria’s main opposition party.

Mr. Buhari, a retired major general, who will be 72 in December, was Nigeria’s military head of state between 1983 and 1985.

He had contested presidential election on three previous occasions, but lost to the PDP candidates.

The former military leader, who joined politics in 2003, contested that year’s election on the ticket of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, but came second to the incumbent, Olusegun Obasanjo.

In 2007, he ran again on the platform of the same party, but lost to PDP’s Umaru Yar’Adua.

Mr. Buhari quit the ANPP to float the Congress for Progressives Change, CPC, became its standard bearer in the 2011 presidential poll, but was defeated by President Goodluck Jonathan.

PREMIUM TIMES had exclusively reported on Monday that the APC leader had commissioned a study on how he could beat Mr. Jonathan, who may be the PDP candidate, in the coming presidential contest.

“With your support, I intend to offer myself for the position of the president of the republic on the platform of our great party,” Mr. Buhari told his supporters under the aegis of Buhari Support Groups, BSG.

“I intend to make a formal announcement soon (October 8), and I hope I can count on your continuing support and sacrifice.”

The APC leader, however, urged the groups not to limit their support to him alone, saying, “I will like to point out to you that, to be more meaningful, your support must extend beyond my person and always be available to the party and all those the party puts forward; because it is the party that is the platform.”

According to him, the APC is a party with several qualified people for each and all the positions that would be contested, including that of the president.

He said it is the primaries that will determine who eventually represent the party in which capacity, adding “If I get the party nomination, I expect you will redouble your effort and commitment until we clinch the presidency. But in the event that it happens to be one of the other aspirants who wins, I will expect you as good party men to extend to him your total support. We are a united party, and united we shall remain, because our strength lies in our unity.”

Mr. Buhari said he was proud and thankful of his supporters adding that although “we may be the most under-funded project in the history of this country, but by the grace of God and your support, we are the greatest crowd puller in the nation today; and the credit for all this goes to you for being there on the scene of the struggle.”

He however warned all his supporters, volunteers and other well-wishers within the APC and outside the party not to insult or be rude to any other aspirant or party leader on his behalf.

He asked them not to engage in any kind of behaviour or conduct that would tarnish the image of any leader or promote division and rancour within the ranks of the party.

“Whoever does that should know he or she is working for the enemy. At the same time, I would like to appeal and urge you to be good ambassador of the opposition.

“As a body, the opposition is committed to the rule of law; and as members of the parties in the opposition, you must learn to do the same at all times. In particular, you must learnt o be vigilant especially just before, during and immediately after elections, whether these are rigged or not, so that sponsored hoodlums do not commit illegalities that are in the end blamed on you.

“Not only must you not take laws into your hands, no matter the level of provocation, you must be able to expose those planning to do so before they act.”

  • the truth

we will see buhari. congrats again for the 4th time. who says you cant continue fighting for a position the people have said a categorical no to you three times and a military coup took you out once.

    • Olutola

Listen to Bongo Zikwe boy: ….You’ve got to try as much as you can, it could be your chance,…keep on trying, keep on trying…….it could be your chance!

      • djay

just like jamb, never give up until you make it.

      • TRUTH MASTER

        Bongos Ikwue?

    • Nigerian

Mr. Neutral, are you also here with your “neutrality”?

      • the truth

bro i am beginning to suspect you

        • Nigerian

…that i am chasing a “neutral” person or what?

      • Sword of Damocles

lol, laff won kill me. Yes my broda, by their utterances we shall know them. Scum of the GRIMIEST earth!!

    • endingNaija

you mean people like you want a money launderer to continue to be president of our country! Ah! This is a shock to me the unredeemable “the truth”

    • Mr Igbo Sanity

All three times were RIGGED by pdp. pdp has NEVER WON AN ELECTION IN NIGERIA!

  • just kennie

    Buhari insha Allah

  • Enemona

You’re underfunded??? We want to contribute to this cause, just ask for it and you would become overfunded through us, the teeming masses, who want a change. Bring it on, come get my money! Ask for donations.

    • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

      Same here!

I will gladly donate my ten kobo.

Hopefully, APC will set up a portal for us to contribute towards its campaigns.

No sacrifice is too much for a better Nigeria of the future.

      • Baba Messi

‘Sir K’, I strongly advise you to save your ‘widows mite’ for yur children’s skool fees or something.
Neither the PDP capones nor the APC lords need the donations of the ‘masses’. They rely on ‘slush funds’. The amount of money at these peoples disposal is unimaginable. You might argue Buhari has not amassed such wealth..but I assure you he has more than enuf ‘strong men’ who can bankroll his mission impossible.
Much as I liked Buhari, his time has undoubtedly passed.
Much as we might like to deny it, the same sentiments that affected him in his three previous attempts still exist..only they r more pronounced now.
This will just amount to another FUTILE-FLIGHT-OF-FANCY.

        • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

Thanks for the advise, Baba Messi.

I happen to be one of those silly people who’d put my money where my mouth is.

In 2011, I put my ten kobo in Ribadu’s way, knowing fully well he was not likely to win, but my conscience was happy that I could live with that.

If you wonder where my payback is? I can tell you that I’d happily spend more just to reduce the number of people that I have on my “charity” list.

The more, many of us contribute “ten kobo” to our candidates of choices, the higher moral indignation we can express if we can express if we don’t get value for money on our widow’s mite.

          • Enemona

Wow! Well said Kay. I’m totally with you, if this is what silly is then I am.

          • KD

@ Kay Soyemi, I respect you more and more everyday sir.

I’m a Yoruba lady who lives in Houston, TX. I will not only donate to Muhammadu Buhari, I will also campaign for him. He might not be the best candidate, but of the pack, he is what Nigeria needs right now. I believe it in my heart!

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

            Many thanks, KD.

            My sentiments, exactly.

      • Sword of Damocles

        And I!!

      • Okey

Fantastic ! What a statement ! Unarguably, miserable support is a huge statement of one’s assessment of the worthiness of a cause.

        • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

Okey, I believe the irony is lost even on the writer!

      • TRUTH MASTER

Kay, please permit me to sign on too!

  • tsunami1earthquake

Buhari, I like you as a person but you will never win any Nigerian election, even in a free and fair environment. Lots of religious and anti-establishment tar has defaced you; anybody who wants to lead must first learn how to follow, even if you don’t like the leader. But you and some others of your ilk have not shown this highly admired characteristic since the last four years. Sorry about that. Your colleague, Kwankwaso, is even the biggest joke of the century. I wonder what has told him he would win a presidential election. Surely, the entire South and Middle Belt would throw him out the window. We await you guys on Election Day, for payback time is near.

  • kwango

Buhari’s time has come. He is a tasted presidential material not an accidental Power Destroying Personalities PDP

  • Baba Messi

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Repeating the same thing over and over and OVER AGAIN and expecting a different result????
    Never worked that way..NEVER WILL..

    • Enemona

      Abraham Lincoln comes to mind.

      • Baba Messi

Nigeria is a more complex society..in terms of the deep rooted ethnic and religious sentiments.
They can’t be wished away..sad but true.
The sentiments and prejudice that stood against him in his three previous attempts still exist..only they have become more pronounced by the terror and carnage in the north.
        This is the reality.

  • Peter Irene

Buhari is the only Leader today that can stop Curruption. He will not siphoned our money overseas. His integrity cannot be compared to the present Government who have said time without Number that Curruption is not Nigeria problem. The present regime is not youth friendly. They kill many of them durin Abba Moro interview after collecting money from them even though they are jobless. To serve your nation you have to pay N4,000. They say they have a lean purse but private jets are ferrying the money overseas on a daily basis. The famed Lessor Pastor 9.3 million dollar is just a tip of the iceberg. What about billions of dollar we may never know that are being taken out daily.

    • Sekoni Adamu

Yes! You’re right Peter. But there’s no “corruption” under mr jona’s administration according to him. It is only made up of thieves and people that merely “STEAL” according to him. That is why there is fight against corruption under his administration and neither do we see a war against those that “STEAL” under jona’s government… Hahaaaaaaaaa!

      • Mohstone

        Lol !!!

  • the truth

Buhari you have asked us this same question 3 times and we have always told you no. To be a president is not a must. men like you need to have retired to your country home or villa and enjoy the last leg of life.Nigeria needs young and vibrant men with new ideas, not a recycled 71 year old. Your candidacy would hinder younger minds like oshiomole

    • endingNaija

But we do not want a president (Goodluck Jonathan) who worked with
Pastor Oritsejafor to launder $9.3m to South Africa. I know you want
such president because you “the truth” will never “redeem” the real
truth. But we Nigerians do not want a president who launders money with
      his friend.

      • the truth

Did u read my post.did I mention Jonathan? Or are you trying to put words in my mouth or start an argument.lets stay focused on the topic at hand which is buhari

        • djay

u don’t need to mention jonathan becos he is a failure who hob nob with gangsters and criminals like Ayo.

          • the truth

mr djay with all due respect jonathan is not the topic of deliberation. must every thing be jonathan. lets be focused

          • djay

Sorry to say but that money him and his partner in Christ stole is giving me sleepless night

          • the truth

think of it this way, if money was about to be stolen of all countries why would they fly to south africa. where is switzerland, where is Luxembourg where is andorra and co all countries with friendly approaches for stolen wealth. my brother don’t throw stones without hearing all the facts. stay blessed

          • Factual

so you mean no money is laundered?

          • djay

Why should I think of it your way. The laws are there to guide and if you go contrary to it you are guilty.

          • deji

Exposed! Defending Dumbo, the money launderer.
            Hahahahaha
What do you have to say about the over twenty applicants that were killed by Jonathan in an employment scam?
What about the application fees that runs into billions?
I have plenty question for you about Dumbo stealing.
Dont you think that the money that Jonathan is stealing could have been enough to provide power supply to Nigerians or at least complete the east west road?

          • the truth

my neutrality makes me question both sides, but as for you your one side view would be your ultimate catalyst to failure. i dont know the nigeria you want, but i want a nigeria where there is due process where investigations are carried out and far reaching outcomes are carried out. stone me for saying i believe since the matter is under investigation we shouldn’t throw stones and point fingers, and please worship those who say they are already guilty even before all investigations are carried out.if that is what your utopian nigeria is i feel for you. a country where people are lynched on mere accusations, burn am!!!put tire for his head because someone accused him, is this what you want for nigeria? because that is what you are insinuating. innocent until proven guilty is an attainable dogma i believe my fatherland can toe. thank you once again neutral

          • endingNaija

the information from the investigation is that the money launderer president and his Pastor friend did not disclose the $9.3m to Nigerian and South African laws. That is PATENT and CLEAR enough the unredeemable “the truth” If you like vote a money launderer. That is your business and choice. Nigerians are deciding that they do not want money launderers in govt anymore-period.

          • Mr Igbo Sanity

You are paid pdp gej volunteer. You are not neutral. all your posts on all sites are as an apologist for the biggest looter in the history of the planet…Jonathan who stole 3.3 Trillion Naira ($20 Billion dollars) unremitted oil money according to pdp led Nigerian Senate!

          • deji

Quit lying. You are a paid PDP agent. Some of you were seen fighting each other in the US over $50 shared by the SA- TAN group campaigning for Dumbo.

          • Nigerian

            Mr. “Neutral”, fire on!

          • Nigerian

Deji my brother, Mr. “the truth” is neutral. He is not Jonathan’s supporter. Lol

          • endingNaija

“the truth” is an unredeemable Goodluck Jonathanian!

          • Nigerian

So you too have got him.

          • deji

No be small thing my brother. They are trying to be clever by half, forgetting that their roforofo yansh is open to the public to see the dirt.

          • endingNaija

Cyprus via south Africa-abi “the truth”

          • Mohstone

Chei!!! See how you dey open your nyansh for all to see. What a shame … defending crime blindly. Tufiakwa.

          • endingNaija

because we do not want a money launderer now. When a sitting president becomes a money launderer, why wont everything return to the criminality. Abi what are you saying? Ah Abegi joo!

        • endingNaija

which topic? I am saying you are a Goodluck Jonathanian who cannot redeem the real truth about the $9.3m Goodluck Jonathan and Ayo Oritsejafor laundered to South Africa. And my poser to you is: why will any Nigerian such as you want a Goodluck Jonathan as president? Why will anyone want such person as president again in this country? That is my question to you given your Goodluck Jonathanian credentials and resume!

    • Enemona

Old or young, what we need is a man of integrity, an individual that would engender probity and transparency, an incorruptible president is all I want. Old or young show me that man, old or young, we are tired of being fleeced. Give me the people’s general, old or young, age is just a number.

The presidents age is not an end in itself. Bihari can help to mentor and grow the next generation of young leaders. The current crop are not fit for purpose.

    • Enemona

I love oshiomhole, he can partner Buhari.

    • Chris1408

You’re absolutely right, Buhari had his chance already. Nigeria needs new patriots to run this country. We are tired of recycling the same old rags

      • Ha

You mean the likes of Tony Anenih, Tukur and Clark? Over 80 years of age but dictating what our president do. Tell me the difference.

    • endingNaija

some of us cannot retire so long as you have a money launderer as a president. It is the highest form of patriotism to want to exit a money launderer from govt. And that is why all of us are supporting Buhari-period.

    • Ha

The questions Buhari asked you 3 time and you are saying no are as follows:

      1. Let’s fight indiscipline ……………….> you answered NO.

      2. Let’s fight insecurity…………………> you answered NO.

      3. Let’s fight corruption ………………..> you answered NO.

Stop contradicting yourself please. You said “Nigeria needs young and vibrant men with new ideas” but you are busy rallying for Jonathan. Does he have the qualities you mentioned? Deceive yourself.

      • Nigeria

That’s Mr. “Neutral” for you. His neutrality is yet to be seen when it comes Mr. Jonathan (PhD).

  • Sekoni Adamu

The ONLY truly TESTED and TRUSTED ruler Nigeria EVER had…

  • Its a pity Buhari does not learn. He’s setting himself up again for another defeat. His defeat this time will be worse than the previous one. I think he’s over rating his popularity. I was expecting him to throw his weight behind a younger person. What a pity.

    • endingNaija

who can defeat Buhari? You mean the current occupant Goodluck Jonathan who collaborated with Ayo Oritsejafor to launder $9.3m to South African in the private jet of Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor? You want a money launderer to continue to be your president ? Or a collaborator with a money a launderer to continue to be your president. Come on Peace and redeem the truth once and for all. Think for once Peace and redeem the real truth!

      • Tunsj

Do not forget the $20 billion missing.

        • endingNaija

And others Madame Oil is sitting on on behalf of the money launderer-presiden!

      • Your point might have been very valid if majority of Nigerian voters are ‘sophisticated’. We should not forget that the majority of the people whose votes will finally decide who occupies Aso Rock do not comments on social medial. About 40% of Nigerians are illiterates. Religion is going to play a big role in the election. This is why PDP has been active promoting the opposition as an Islamic Party and sponsor of Boko Haram. Have you listened to the message of one Pastor Emmanuel Bosun I think of the Redeemed Church openly calling on Christians not to vote for APC? If APC underrates the influence of Religion and ethnicity on next years election, they will regret it. APC under Buhari will lose south-south, southeast, most of the middle belt and will share southwest and the far North with PDP. APC has no chance if they field Buhari despite his good records. Yoiu need more than good records to win elections in Nigeria. APC should not be carried away by emotions; they should study the political situation very carefully before deciding on a candidate.

    • Mr Igbo Sanity

buhari was never defeated. All elections since 1999 were rigged by pdp

  • djay

Buhari is the man Nigerians can support to be president and go to sleep with two eyes closed, unlike joe and ayo

  • TRUTH MASTER

If Buhari gets the ticket of his party, I don’t see him losing to anyone this time around. The die is cast!

    • Nas

Even if Doctors did not tell you, we all know that too much carbohydrates is causing a lot of diabates even among the youths. Then, let’s take some protein to fight off this dreaded disease that’s is why i say flash your eyes at Gen. Buhari for help. Forget about sentiment pls.

  • Atuluku

Buhari-Fashola combination could be formidable…What do you think?

    • Mohstone

I would prefer Buhari-Oshiomole or Buhari-Rochas or Buhari-Amaechi. These combinations will send PDP packing without notice.

  • djay

I will put my all in what ever way I can to support Buhari if he emerges as the Apc candidate not becos of me but for the generations behind. With someone like him as president the future of our children will be secured.

    • the truth

what is your basis for this judgement. what is his track record?

      • deji

You are back again, this jobless man replying every comment in favour of Buhari. You will soon die of hypertension at the rate you are going.

        • the truth

i don’t think you can compare what i make every hour or where i work or people i manage to yours. i would leave it at that, i would like to meet you one and one and we equate who is really jobless

          • deji

You think wrongly. How much do you make per hour? What do you do for a living that makes you think you can compare yourself to me? Where do you live?

          • the truth

i would leave it at that, it was childish for you to bring about me been jobless. i have always said although we may argue here or have different ideologies it is wrong for you to abuse someone for not having the same view as you. i have full respect for you and we can argue but when you past that line and start abusing, thats a no -no

          • deji

Dont leave it at that oh. You brought up the issue of how much you make and what you do for a living and I simply ask you to tell us. Dont chicken out. Tell us if you are not jobless.

          • Mohstone

He is the “Chief Internet Rat” of President Dumbo. And ofcourse you know that kind of idle job pays well.

          • the truth

            i never abused you deji

          • deji

But you and your friend Dumbo insult our collective intelligence when you say such things as “common stealing is not corruption” When you run a government of looters, there can never be an abuse greater than that.
When you don’t give a damn about declaring your ill gotten wealth, then you have greatly abused me.

          • endingNaija

dont mind the money launderer president-just as he said the money laundering was “procedural error”!!! I go laaafi ooo!

          • deji

Proceedural error. Hahahaha. Dumbo was caught pant down. Thank God it happened in far away South Africa, they would have swept it under the big carpet of corruption.
            God don expose them.

          • Mohstone

“Procedural error” …. lol. Abeg no kill me with laughter, please.

          • TRUTH MASTER

Seriously, no one cares what you make per minute. So please shove that. What we do here is exchange ideas on a deep, rather than superficial, level. Interventions are judged on a higher level, not on the basis of some cheap money someone is earning!

          • the truth

hypocrisy at its best, usee what i have always said on this forum. y not accept everyone notwithstanding having a different ideology with u. did u see how he insulted me, but u seemed not to see that. hey i rest my case

    • Chris1408

He was there before, what did he achieve? If he failed as a military head of state, where orders are not questioned, how can he succeed as a civilian president, where you have to bargain to get things done

      • Mr Igbo Sanity

How long was he there before the US agent IBB was foisterred on Nigeria by US Oil interests!

        • Tunsj

You said it all my brother.

          • Mr Igbo Sanity

Thank you. All Nigerians, including Igbo, Housa, Yoruba, as well all smaller tribes MUST UNITE to throw out the MOST CORRUPT regime in the history of the planet… the worldwide discredited jonathan regime!

          • Chima

            how old are you??

          • Tunsj

You are welcome my brother. They think that we Nigerians are timid. We all must come together and throw out these corrupt politicians. I’m not from SE but I want him to pick a running mate from SE to balance the ticket. Nigeria belongs to all of us.

      • TRUTH MASTER

Your vehemence in attacking Buhari is suspicious…….

          • checkmate

Weak in what sense? please elaborate.

          • Chris1408

As they are now bargaining to stop debate on the $9.3 illegal arms deal? Criminals in power; criminals in churches.

  • adisa

Buhari will be the next president of NIgeria isha allau

    • the truth

we will see about that. its less than 5 months away

      • endingNaija

Not too long a period when we will expose the money launderer- and his Pastor friend!

        • Tunsj

          Well said!

        • TRUTH MASTER

          I dey laugh ooooooooooo

  • Sword of Damocles

General Buhari we will continue to support, and sacrifice for our Republic and for you. Sai Mai Gaskiya!!

  • Chris1408

Running for presidency in Nigeria is not cheap. If Buhari is a saint, where is he getting all this money to run? He ran and failed 3 times already.

    • Tunsj

Chris1408, most of the time I agree with you but this time you are wrong. He ran and failed three time , but that does not mean that he cannot win this time. Nigeria needs new leadership in 2015 and you know it because we cannot continue this way. He must pick a running mate from SE and a christian to balance the ticket. I do not see how any reasonable Nigerian will vote for GEJ in 2015.

      • Chris1408

I’m just judging him based on his prior performance. We all know Idiagbon was the brain and power during his regime. Buhari was a weakling. You’re right, we don’t need GEJ either.

        • Tunsj

Understood. But at least let Nigerians give him a chance. The present President we have now lacks leadership.

          • Chris1408

I truly feel we need new hands to run this country. Recycling the same wasted products won’t do us any good but keep deeper in this whole. Time to dig out of it

          • Mohstone

Show us the new hands??? Hope you will not show us hands that could be used for money laundering???

        • Mr Igbo Sanity

Buhari NEVER LOST an election. all elections since 1999 were rigged by pdp

    • Joe

The former CBN governor, now emir of Kano gave Buhari N100m to contest against GEJ in 2011. Again, it’s on record that gadafi the former emperior of libya sponsored Buhari’s campaign against OBJ. Buhari as a person may not have the funds, but he has a lot of channels of funds, which may not be health for the country.

      • Factual

        Bigot!!!

      • endingNaija

All WE ARE SAYING WE DO NOT WANT A MONEY LAUNDERER ($9.3M) AS PRESIDENT. THAT IS ALL WE ARE SAYING

      • Factual

        Can you prove your claim?

    • Ha

What do you expect him to do?

  • TRUTH MASTER

Some frivolous folks come here to make fun of Buhari and laugh at his perennial candidacy. It is because they lack a sense of history.

Abdoulaye Wade was a long-time leader of opposition in Senegal. He ran for President four times, starting from 1978 until he finally won in 2000.

The celebrated former Brazilian President Lula (Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva) ran for President four times before winning in 2002.

These are just two examples across the world.

It is possible that those laughing at Buhari today will themselves become objects of laughter tomorrow! Never write Buhari off if he wins his party’s ticket!!

    • Chris1408

Were they former head of states before they ran 4 times? Buhari was rejected in Nigeria, and will be rejected again based on his prior performance.

      • yusif

masses vote for Buhari PDP and the court denied our mandate.

      • Ha

Buhari’s prior performance was “WAR AGAINST INDISCIPLINE”. Is that what you don’t want? There is a wise saying that a leader is to his people like a head to the body. Whatever happens to the head will automatically affect the body. The fear is that this most corrupt, inept, clueless, blind, don’t-give-a-damn, money laundering, boko haram romancing administration is gradually taking over some people’s conscience and way of thinking. Persistence and repetition make what used to be strange gradually become normal. I don’t know which performance indicator some people use to support this govt. Is it because of an improved economy? abundance employment? working manufacturing sector? well functioning and corruption-free public sector? improved power supply? improved health and education sector? organised, prestigious and equipped police and military officers? kidnapping, armed robbery, communal clash and boko haram-free society? competent, truthful, responsible, accountable and organized leadership? The fear people had of spitting outside the dustbins provided in the streets during Buhari’s period is far more than the fear now people have to take human lives. Jonathan who unfortunately happened to be your role model was more disciplined during Buhari’s time because he had to. It was because PDP didn’t have anything to accuse Buhari of that they resorted to linking him with boko haram. Have you ever heard Buhari accused of corruption, stealing public funds, associating with proved criminals, terrorists and drug-pushers like Modu Sheriff, Kashamu, etc? Now who are the boko haram? Isn’t it Jonathan & Co.? Can’t you reason with Azazi, Obasanjo, Steven Davis, Soyinka, Cardinal Okogie, etc?

    • deji

Amen, they will become object of laughter tomorrow.
Again they complain about his age, forgetting that Nelson Mandela who laid the foundation for modern South Africa became South Africa President at the age of 76 and Ronald Reagan who became US President at the age of 70 and started his second term at the age of 74.

    • Wähala

To me, Buhari has disappointed those waiting to read about “baboons and dogs”…with his call for internal unity and restraint in the face of induced provocation. While I personally would like to see a younger and smarter (than Dumbo) person there, Buhari’s health rather than age is of subliminal concern to me. But that’s me! The broader picture is while his age may garner some decorum from “attack dogs” and political opponents, he stands the best chance at winning this time than in previous occasions with respectable voices like Mrs. Gani ati Cardinal Okogie saying Dumbo does not deserve a second chance. Imagine the political dividend of Cardinal Okogie calling on Nigerian Catholics not to eat with people with dirty hands… or old Mrs Gani advising young mothers to vote for the future of their children. Sha… however, methinks this may be a decoy of their main contender given his vehement call for support for whoever wins their party’s primaries. Just a passing thought! Stay tuned…

      • TRUTH MASTER

        I ll definitely do!

I have taken the first step tonight by adopting his image as my avatar till the elections are held.

Please send the word out – adopt the GMB image to show the strength of his support online.

It is a minor step, but with a strong impact.

Nigeria must get better for the future of our children.

Nigeria shall reclaim her stand in the comity of Nation.
Whether the enemy likes it or not, Nigeria will bounce back.
All looters and corrupt leaders shall be put to shame.
The hand of God shall be upon Nigerians.
Nigerians henceforth will start to value honesty, hard work and integrity.

I gladly accept this new moniker, bruv.

  • akpos1

My ‘Dear’ friend and Presidential candidate emeritus is contesting in anticipation of the Blood of Dogs and Baboons! What else? abi no be so? Nonsense!

…at 83yrs, this Mugabe of Nigeria does not want employment for the younger generation…all around the world, the norm is for smart, intelligent, well educated, exposed and ‘civilized’ patriots to aspire to presidency. But in continent Nigeria, a former dissident who brazenly dismantled an elected govt and promulgated the draconian decrees 2 & 4 (which permitted arrests without trial), tells us that he wants to come back…..Worse still, this fellow was a former employee of brutal Abacha as his PTF anchor. What about the OIC anomaly?

In an ideal country, people like him will be treated ‘differently’ in solitary confinement if u know what I mean. But Nigeria is not a country and therefore anyone, I mean anyone can aspire to lead. Nonsense!

    • endingNaija

we are doing this because the real truth which we have redeemed fr true Nigerians to see is that we do not want a money launderer as president anymore. We have had enough of the money launderer and his counselor Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor. If you cannot redeem the real truth then all Nigerians will vote out the money launderer from power.

    • khurla

What on earth are u talking about? I do notice that u are yet to accuse Buhari of corruption. Even if je has fallen short in other areas let him help us tackle corruption

    • Otile

God bless you abundantly. I miss you a lot. Dogs and baboons have beleaguered my lone voice in here, bro.

  • John

What Nigeria needs at this moment is DISCIPLINE, with DISCIPLINE EVERYTHING WILL FALL INTO PLACE. And I see the PRESIDENT BUHARI bringing this TO BEAR. IT ONLY THOSE THIEVES WHO HAVE MILKED THIS COUNTRY DRY THAT DON’T WANT BUHARI BECAUSE THEY WANT TO CONTINUE TO STEAL AND THERE WONT BE ANY HIDING PLACE FOR THEM

    • Tunsj

I couldn’t have said it better myself. “Those thieves and criminals that have milked this country dry that don’t want President Buhari”.

  • Omooba Adekunle Orafidiya

Buhari the Boko Haram sponsor and jihadist, there’s no way you can be president of Nigeria; a country you have “made ungovernable” (as you declared when you lost in 2011). Being President is not your birthright or bequest. In any case, other than being a soldier, what is your qualification? The world has moved beyond handing power over to illiterates like Buhari.

    • endingNaija

Nigerians do not want the qualification of being a money launderer for their presidency-period. It is time for the money launderer and his counselor-Ayo to leave. What do you think Orafidiya?

    • John

      You need to arrested

    • John

You element of darkness, I rebuke you.

    • TRUTH MASTER

Too late sir. Nigerians can now see beyond those wicked name calling. Nigeria is in dire straits. We need a man of honour, integrity, discipline and one that is incorruptible, not money launderers and gun-runners. Please try something else sir!

    • Mr Igbo Sanity

Here are the facts: Jonathan regime are behind all boko haram attacks:

Jonathan Regime was described by NY Times and The Financial Times of London as “Very Corrupt
      and Callous (Wicked)

OBJ noted in his open letter to Jonathan “Before Its Too late” than Jonathan Regime have set up snipers to
murder over 1000 Nigerians that may stand in their way of rigging themselves into power again in 2015

The late former pdp’s NSA boss, Mr Azzazi noted in Asaba speech that pdp is boko haram. He was quickly murdered.

Forner Abia Governor, Orji Uzo kalu noted than “…”[Jonathan]Security Agents, Not Boko Haram Behind Bombings” Kalu, who spoke in Abuja when members of the FCT chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) visited him, said the security agencies do this to of attract more funding from the federal allocation

Former Adamawa State Governor Nyako noted that Jonathan Regime are sponsoring boko haram and committing GENOCIDE to the Northern residents, jonathan regime paid Adamawa state house of Assembly 8 million each to impeach Nyako

Now the US Congress was told in open congressional hearing that” jonathan regime is the main
“impediment” to US and International community’s efforts to assist Nigeria to stop the boko haram attacks.

What more proof does any supporter of this Jonathan blood soaked regime need to realize that under
jonathan regime over 18,000 Nigerians have been murdered since jonathan took over more than 5 years ago, despite Jonathan sharing the blood money intended for security to the tune of over 7 Trillion naira in the last 5 years!

    • yusif

Omooba. You must to know who are boko haramist exposed by God in south Africa with a religious jet and $9.5 to purchased weapon.PhD holder can’t handle this country so let’s try people who are tested and trusted.

      • Deltans

Who is a PhD holder? the mumu that makes blunders whenever he opens his mouth. It’s really unfortunate to have Jonathan as president. He has never got what it takes to be a president.

        • yusif

          Deltans
We are in the same page PhD holder or Empty vessel loaded with corruption and incompetency

          • Deltans

I pity Nigerians. It’s time to get rid of this fake PhD holder and his Comedian wife.

    • khurla

What is your own qualification Sir? Were he a sponsor of bokoharam wouldn’t jona hv arrested him? If he actually is and jona hasnt Jona still doesnt deserve to be president

      • Omooba Adekunle Orafidiya

I agree with you to the extent that Goodluck Ebola Jonathan is too spineless, clueless, senseless, hopeless and feckless to be President. Why? Because he has not mustered the courage to jail Buhari (for incitement after he lost the 2011 election) and Amoda Ogunlere aka Bola Tinubu (for compromising the judiciary, treasury looting and certificate forgery).

  • JOHN

BUHARI PLEASE COME AND FREE US FROM THE SHACKLES OF CORRUPTION, POVERTY, IMPUNITY, UNDER DEVELOPMENT, DISCRIMINATION, POOR SALARIES, HARDSHIP, LAWLESSNESS, INJUSTICE, AND EXPLOITATION. WE LOVE YOU.

STONE BUHARI WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH

I URGE NIGERIA YOUTHS TO STONE BUHARI WHEREVER THEY SEE HIM !!!

Buhari was Nigeria Head of State as far back as 1983 ….. that is …… over 31 years ago !!!

    Before then:

1975 – 1976: Buhari was Governor of North Eastern State
1976 – 1978: Buhari was Federal Commisioner for Petroleum & Natural Resources
    1962 – 1983: GOC Nigeria Army

    Buhari was born December 17, 1942 (almost 72 years Old);

I am convinced that even though Buhari’s official age is 72 ….. his true Age is far more than 72 years.

What else is Buhari looking for ??? ….. A VERY SELFISH OLD MAN !!!

    Think about it !!!

David Cameron was under 43years when he became UK Prime Minister
Barack Obama was under 46years old when he became US President
Matteo Renzi was under 38years old when he became Italy Prime Minister

    • endingNaija

Not when a money launderer is the current president and that same money launderer is contesting. It is a bad luck that cannot redeem any truth to continue to have a money launderer ($9.3m) as president-what do you think? Enough of stomach infrastructure.

    • the truth

it is amazing that nigerians with all our education are calling a 71 year old man to come and save them. where are the young ones? and people say something is not wrong with our society. somebody even said mandela was over 70 when he came to rule south africa. are u serious comparing mandela and buhari? a man who did a coup to end a democratically elected government.now he wants to be a president something he despised and ended.rot all over nigeria

The man of our hope. Any Nigerian that means well for this country has to support Buhari…I don’t know him personally but truly I have studied his comments many times and they always have this selfless tone that is uncharacteristic of almost every Nigerian politician….I want to see him abuse the clueless Jonathan but he still is careful with bad words when speaking of anyone including his opponent Jonathan amazingly…and in this speech again, look at how he tells his supporters to support the party and not him and if he wins primaries, good, but if he does not win they should work for whoever wins because many people in the party are credible enough….gentlemen, among Nigerian politicians, trust me this is a rare trait, and it is one of the reasons why I will do the little I can to contribute to a Buhari presidency…to contribute to a better Nigeria. Nigerians please lets take this chance to seek change. Opportunity comes but once

They burn them all away, but they’re not punishing you, they’re freeing your soul. If you’re frightened of dying and you’re holding on,

Why I’m running for president again is because l have sharia to be declared in all Nigeria. l have to also deal with some people in Nigeria martially and mercilessly. Please our dear Bloke be informed that forgiveness is not about condoning another’s hurtful actions, it is about releasing your negative emotions and perceptions about the painful events. Otherwise you keep yourself chained to those events or people – you keep it alive within you – and you carry it with you where-ever you go. It is a very heavy burden to carry around and you end up crippling yourself emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically.

Holding on to anger, resentment, etc. keeps you in ‘victim’ mode – powerless. It means you are letting those people who have hurt you in the past dictate who you are in the present moment. You can take your power back by releasing these negative emotions and no longer let them hold sway over your thoughts, feelings and actions.

Only you are responsible for what you do, think and feel. You can choose to hold on to painful events, like a weight around your neck, or you can choose to remove that burden by releasing it (giving it no more emotional energy and therefore power) and living a happier life despite past circumstances. In other words… let the past be in the past, and live in the now moment. You can’t change what happened in the past, but you have choice over how you live now.

      • So you want a Boko Haram initiator like Buhari? Until we know for sure what he did with PTF money and HOW he is able to contest for president multiple times on a retiree’s salary, we shall not even answer him. The Igbo keep rescueing Nigeria from implosion but deep-seated hatred will not let Nigeria allow them to ascend to the top position. Was that not why the Buhari team had their coup in 1983? Lest Ekweme become a candidate and run/win an election. As we say in the East:Nigeria Ntooo!

        • Mohstone

What is your evidence that he is a Boko Haram Initiator??? What of Jonathan who said he knows the sponsors and they are in his govt dining and whining with him ??? • oshofaze

god bless u mohstone, it is until reeligious, ethinicity sentiment leave our mind, we would be able to see situations better, if GEJ is anyone standard of leadership, then daz is a huge blow. we have everything to grow, just to have a leader that put our interest first and we had never had dat since 1999 of PDP rule. we need a new direction in 2015, GMB will come and set a new foundation for the young generation, a new corrupt free standard of governance, a visionary and selfless kind of leadership that will get Nigeria out of all this corrupt and mediocre government.

  • DecodeDaRiddle

    BUHARI AGAIN?
YES. He has come again. Why? Because the problem has not changed for the better.
I have seen so many people punch way above their weight and sincerely it will remain so.
My point exactly is that without doing any name calling and abiding by the truth, we need Nigeria on a steady path.
A man who has held lucrative positions in the country and barely has anything to show for it.
A man that inspite of 20 months of total control Set a 2 point agenda and followed it with all vigour; War Against Indiscipline and War against Corruption.
The leader that set us aright and we all started behaving like citizens with equality evident and enshrined in our now broken institutions.
I can say so much about the hope that this man brought and i make bold to say that age or political inclination have not changed the underbelly of this man. The man that saw the pain in his beloved country and offered to change it and yet the deceitful members of the coup came from behind and snatched the save Nigeria project.
He has always been accused for terrorism but never substantiated. Not that he is so smart but just because he wont profess to save a country and destroy it with another stroke.
He has held office with all the trappings and yet came out clean.
For those who call him religious bigot, i come to shame you today. The several borehole projects in RCCG redemption camp today were done by Buhari under the PTF project. How will a core bigot attend to the necessity of another faith where lawful yet opposite religious minded will gather.
For those that have bothered to read how Tunde Bakare was selected, Buhari said that the man he could trust with the Nigerian project must be like minded. Someone who ensured that GEJ be installed against the cabal. He was only looking out for the best for the country.
We have watched to everyone’s name calling and labels placed on this man, PDP made a pact to scuttle the merger and cemented it with ACN then to ensure Buhari not emerging on a robust platform yet in 3 months he had solid 12m votes across the country.
12 Million votes even with alleged manipulations. He is not young as we all advocate but what has the young one done for us both home and abroad. Our youth are money centric now with a grab-grab mentality. The old and those with humble background have held offices and we saw what became of it. GMB is the only one that has filled that void of age, office trappings and yet came out clean. He has served regionally, he served a despot and performed more that his employer, he held the country at its height and no one called him a thief.
The ruling party clearly know that the only person that can give them a fight is GMB and even with his yet to be made declaration, they have started talking. They are afraid, they are overwhelmed by his unbeaten and unbroken spirit and resolve….what a man.
The template for his national network will emerge later and yes, he is serious this time more than ever, hence why he has spent time to come up with a study on how to beat the incumbent. He has appealed for calm, he has laid the grounds for both his emergence nd non-emergence as his party’s flag bearer without calling it an atomic bomb like his opponent who had used all tools available to knowingly become his party’s sole candidate.
Age does not deter productivity as long as the heart is contrite. I believe that all the excuses of misrule will fade away when we all see him at work that a nation can be transformed in the shortest possible time like we did when we by ourselves kept the country clean by not putting trash in our pockets but waste bins were everywhere already provided, we all lined up at bus stops that had existed but never used. The key ingredient to restoring Nigeria’s glory is in DISCIPLINE and the man has not changed.
A vote for GMB will be the empowerment of the electorate which has been what the other politicians have always exploited.

    • endingNaija

THE MEANING OF BUHARI IN 2015 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION !!!

Since the Super Eagles are not doing so well …. Coach Stephen Keshi must recall Christian Chukwu, Segun Odegbami, Adokie Amesiemaka, Henry Nwosu, Emma Okala back to the National Team as active players !!!!

The above is the meaning and the message of Buhari’s declaration to contest the 2015 Presidential Election at age 72+

    Does not make sense !!!

However, methinks that Buhari must come to know that there is a time for everything under the sun !!!

  • Kitunde

Yes we need a change,no doubt, but i do not see this positive change thru Buhari. On his much touted incorruptibility; This is a man who came out in concert with Babaginda, to proclaim,to most people’s shock, that the evil corrupt Abacha did not steal a dime! Now, how on earth can you recocile that with his ‘anti corruption stance’. look at the people he is surrounded by now, please, ok i hear ‘end justifies the means’ It should not be so.
How long did it take Buhari to even whisper in condemnation when hundreds of Christians were slaughtered by Islamic terrorists? How long please? When he did speak out,he called for amnesty for them, spitting on the graves of those children, pregnat mothers and fathers killed in cold blood. Please don’t patronise me with ‘his driver of 20years is a christian’.
To his first coming as head of state, saw one of the most brutal, repressive regime save for Abacha’s. He sent people to the gallows under retrospective laws Jailed people without allowing for proper defense in courts of law, including a hard working medical Doctor from Oshogbo for 20yrs on spurious charges! is this rule of law?
My point is: He is not different from all the ones that ruined Nigeria and still ruining Nigeria, we need people not connected to the past rot,not people on vengance mission. But i believe there are good, selfless people in my country.

GMB should rest at his age and serve his country as advisor to incoming new government. Nigerians are begging APC to field competent, service oriented, independent minded and selfless person that will make Nigerians rejoice again after these evil years of PDP. To satisfy the desire of the south south for a second 4 year term and ensure peace, Oshomiole should be presented along with Tambuwal for a formidable outing during the election. Then all routes of rigging should be closed. This combination will send the evil government of PDP packing and bring back sanity to Nigeria. Let APC not disappoint Nigerian by toying with such people like GMB and Atiku, else there may be a serious revolution. Darkness is covering the land, and we need rays of light as seen in Edo state.

Fully in support of your candidature our General.

    • George

I like Buhari and I respect him so much. If you go to Kano
today, you will see all my billboards and posters with Buhari’s picture. We
grew up from primary to secondary school knowing that Buhari is a symbol of
integrity. Everyone knows that Buhari has some kind of messianic image. But,
the truth of the matter is that we want this integrity of Buhari to be
protected. In 2011, Gen. Buhari came out and announced to the country that he
will not contest any future presidential election again. So, why is everybody
keeping quiet? Nobody is raising this issue. It is shocking and disheartening
for some us who are still young. Some people are complaining behind the scenes.
Everybody is worried, disturbed because we wanted his image to be protected. If
he had said in 2011 that he is not going to contest in any future presidential
election, the issue of supporters of Buhari trying to bring him back to
participate in the primaries should not arise. Otherwise, you won’t be able to
differentiate between Buhari and President Goodluck Jonathan. When the five
governors were leaving the PDP, one of their reasons was that Jonathan said he
will not contest in 2015, but that he was changing from that now. Buhari said
in 2011 that he will not contest again, but now some groups and individuals are
promoting his candidacy and are trying to get him to get contest.

      My
message to Buhari, whom we all h1ates is that, everyday he wakes up in the
morning, he should play that tape of 2011.

      To
be honest, he has a lot of younger brothers that he can equally support. We
have Sam Nda-Isaiah, Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola; Rivers State
Governor, Rotimi Amaechi; Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole; Speaker of
House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; and Kano State Governor, Rabiu
Kwankwaso, as potential candidates. We have a lot of younger people he can
support. They are competent Nigerians that can take up that responsibility.

Your comments sounds hypocritically, will you shut up your dirty mouth? Wawa kawai

  • Mr. Abdin

BUHARI SHOULD SUPPORT THE CANDIDATURE OF ATIKU SO THAT PDP CAN BE DEFEATED HANDS DOWN.

  • Bunduma Mohammed

Buhari is acting Like Jonathan. He said he would not contest again in 2011. Why cann’t him support younger people like Atiku or Kwankoso.

UK – David Cameron – 47 years old
US – Barrack Obama – 53 years old

NG – Jonathan Goodluck – 56 years old

Ahmed Tinubu – 62 years old
Abubakar Atiku – 67 years old
      Muhammadu Buhari -71 years old
      John Oyegun -75 years old

Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe – 90 years

Some people will say age brings experience. But Nigeria is a dynamic country and a very popular nation globally. We need to be a good example. I don’t see a 72 year old man doing us any good!
