Jonathan’s endorsement as sole PDP candidate a mockery of democracy – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned the endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan as the sole candidate of the PDP for next year’s presidential election, to the exclusion of all other candidates, calling the endorsement nothing but a mockery of democracy.

In a statement issued in Lagos by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the party also said the endorsement came at a great price to Nigerians, considering the obvious deals that were struck to make President Jonathan the sole PDP candidate.

It said the parody of democracy that the endorsement represents has exposed the shameless hypocrisy of the PDP, which is ever so eager to accuse other parties of lacking in internal democracy.

”Obviously, those fellows in the PDP have never heard of the saying that those who must come to equity must come with clean hands. PDP, where is your own internal democracy now that you have turned your party into a fiefdom controlled by one and only one person only?

”While endorsements are part and parcel of democracy, they are never done to the exclusion of other candidates. This is simply not democratic. When then candidate Barrack Obama was endorsed by his party’s bigwigs to contest the US Presidency, the party never excluded Hillary Clinton from its primaries. That’s how it is done,’’ the APC said.

The party said the price being paid for Mr. Jonathan’s endorsement by Nigeria is simply too heavy, considering that the PDP governors who spearheaded the endorsement have now secured perpetual immunity from prosecution by anti-graft bodies, including the EFCC and the ICPC; the automatic tickets for all first-term PDP Governors, whether or not
they have performed, the automatic tickets for all PDP governors running for the Senate, as well as the free ride back to the Upper Chamber for Senate President David Mark.

”It is now an Open Sesame for the PDP Governors, who have no prying anti-corruption agencies watching over their shoulders. They can now simply see the commonwealth as an extension of their deep pockets. The endorsement is also a vote of approval for the proceeds of corruption that have been powering the noisy and outrageous Transformation
Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN),” it said.

The APC accused President Jonathan of desecrating the country’s democracy because of his desperation for re-election, adding: ”It is a cruel irony that a man who has benefited, more than anyone else, from this democracy has been the one who has been doing everything possible to undermine it.”

The party said President Jonathan has also abandoned domestic issues while seeking international relevance, in a clear negation of the aphorism that charity begins at home.

”This President has basically abandoned governance. Unprecedented corruption is mounting, insecurity stalks the land and Nigerians grope in darkness as power generation has plummeted. This President has yet to tell Nigerians the full involvement of his government in the 9.3 million dollars that was illegally ferried to South Africa on a private jet. This President has yet to tell Nigerians why he has continued to hobnob with an alleged sponsor of Boko Haram, who is supposed to be under a probe by his administration. Yet, he is eager to attend meetings with serious-minded leaders who have done well for their own people.

”Mr. President, it is only when you have achieved success domestically that you can parade yourself internationally. You cannot look good abroad if you look ugly at home,” APC said.

What’s APC business in PDP internal affairs? APC should be planning how to successfully defeat GEJ at the polls. APC/PDP, same politicians, nothing good will come out either. Nigerians need an independent political party to transform our country.

    • TRUTH MASTER

The business of the opposition is to keep the ruling party on its toes by constantly exposing its failures. That is what the APC has done here. Only an ineffective opposition will allow that opportunity to slip by it.

      • Abiodun

must apc rant in everything, since they believe jonathan is not competent and can be defeated if the pdp presents him, fine and good, they should go home and be rejoicing than coming here to make noise about a non issue that will do the common man no good… or are they now scared of jonathan?

        • dudu

I dislike simpletons commenting on issues of national interest. stay away from that keyboard now

        • TRUTH MASTER

You have no business here, Abiodun, because your understanding of democracy is shallow!

          • Abiodun

I don’t follow people sheepishly like you do and i don’t belong to any political party neither do i support any, my simple question is if apc is scared of jonathan? in as much as am not 80 percentage comfortable with jonathan and his pdp administration,i think apc should be busy strategizing and most importantly provide us with a salable candidate than always telling us about pdp misdeeds that are not of any interest to the well being of the common man on the street.

          • Don Messi

            U r blessed.
My frend Wähala’s arguments are never issue based. He just rants from morning till night, blowing hot air.
Too sentimental & prejudiced to think straight.

          • TRUTH MASTER

It is the business of the APC, the opposition, to do what it is doing: Put the PDP’s foot to the fire. And it is doing that. Do you have a problem with that? You know what to do!

          • the truth

what is your understanding of democracy. lie lie mohammed knows people like you would fall for this gibberish.

          • TRUTH MASTER

You and your progeny can only dream of Lai’s achievement!

        • Wähala

Go back to the barber shop, this is an atmosphere for people permitted to think by nature!

          • Abiodun

you are just disgusting mr area boy? must you always comment with on anything you see? when reasonable people are making contributions you should stay away for good or better still just read between the lines only.

          • Wähala

            Listen to yourself…
“must you always comment with on anything you see”
Does that qualify you as a reasonable person?
Like someone said, “you have no business here” indeed… again, go back to the barber shop and wait your turn to get cleaned up so you can appear like human albeit, monkey brains!

          • Abiodun

area boy. keep insulting your father, no home training at all.

          • gymer

But I think Abiodun is more cerebral than you.

          • Wähala

Who asked you? Do you think your opinion matters to me??

  • Funsho Adefila

From outset, APC got it wrong by putting Lai Mohammed as the face of the party.
    His intellectual vacuity is disgraceful. Here he strove to look informed but lost it;
and, ended up a huge ignoramus on the primary election of Barack Obama in 2012.
Fact is, Hilary Clinton was neither an aspirant nor did she file to contest that primary.

    • dudu

I hope you are not the huge ignoramus here, read that line again. it shouldn’t be difficult. Then come back and re-edit your comment

    • Wähala

      Read this…
“When then candidate Barrack Obama was endorsed by his party’s bigwigs to contest the US Presidency, the party never excluded Hillary Clinton from its primaries” – Lai Mohammed
      Translation…
The party’s bigwigs endorsed candidate Obama, not Democratic Party adopting Obama as their sole candidate… kapisch?
Now, guess who’s the huge ignoramus here today?

      • the truth

ignorance leads to ignorance, continue getting brainwashed by lie lie mohammed. hillary clinton did not contest against obama in 2012. obama was the concensus candidate from the democratic party. There was a democratic convention just like the republican convention, since he was a sitting president he was accorded the sole ticket, from bush junior, clinton, bush senior, ronald reagan, lbj to impeached nixon, americans generally give a seating president the accordance to vie for second term unopposed. now lets check the british parliamentary system, tony blair served the labor party for years as its leader and was never replaced(except in general elections) so was gordon brown and now cameron.

    • TRUTH MASTER

Really? You mean Hillary Clinton never contested the Democratic Party primaries against Obama in 2008? Where in the statement did you see 2012 which you mischievously inserted yourself? In the rush to denigrate Lai Mohammed, you have ridiculed yourself. You are the real ”ignoramus” here, Mr. Adefila.

      • gymer

Where in the statement did you see 2008? The spokesperson of APC by inference was referring to the 2012 election because that is the election conducted when Obama was already a sitting President.

        • TRUTH MASTER

Don’t be ridiculous! Hillary contested the primaries with Obama. Period. And that’s the point APC was making. The dates are not the issue. Your man is the sole candidate of the PDP. He has made a joke of democracy.

    • Jikanmalam

He is talking about 2008 Democrats primary not 2011. Please check you records before you comment.

      • Goodluck_Nigeria

        APC IGNORANTS ON PARADE !!!

In 2008 the Democrats in the US conducted primaries that were keenly contested ….. Some big-wigs in the Democratic Party backed Obama while others backed Hilary ………. so Lai Mohammed cannot be talking about 2008.

Fact: LIAR Mohammed is a disaster for APC !!!

      • Anslem

But at no time was Barack Obama “endorsed” by Democratic party big wigs before the Iowa Caucus in 2008. Or did Democratic party big wigs endorse anyone at all before the Iowa caucus in 2008, which signalled the opening of the contested primary by votes. Funsho Adefila is absolutely correct that Lai Mohammed is too grossly un-informed, and perhaps too local, to be a party spokesman. He likely needs schooling.

        • dudu

And you are grossly ignorant and uninformed to be peddling such wrong information, if you know your history, Obama was endorsed by Democratic party big wigs before the primaries, Hilary Clinton got some support too but it just wasn’t enough as Obama sailed to victory and that was in 2008.

  • Goodluck_Nigeria

    THIS APC SEF !!!

Chei …… so Atiku … Kwankwaso ….. Tambuwaal …….. Buhari, ……. Okorocha, Oshiomhole, Amaechi, Fashola …… are the change APC have been making noise about ……. ……. APC are truly on drugs.

    • Wähala

Any of your listed has out-performed your Otuoke moron in their capacities…
What has Dumbo achieved in all his years in politics from Bayelsa State till date?
You must be a drug addict to associate Oshiomhole with drugs… ogogoro Jona is done come 2015. Ode!

      • Goodluck_Nigeria

Are you aware of Lagos State Government N39Billion declared monthly internally generated revenue …. if you are …… please tell us what Governor Fashola has been doing with the money …… with particular reference to the debt position of Lagos State.

        • Wähala

“internally generated revenue” is theirs to blow…
Laogs State is the only state on record to have functioned outside of the national basket viz: Tinubu’s era.
How much has the PDP blown from our ‘collectively generated funds” in their 15yrs of wasted chances?
That’s the more important question for you to answer. Lagos debt profile is there for them to clean-up, has Eko applied for national help in clearing their debt portfolio? No! Has Eko complained that Fashola has pocketed $20bn? Nada! Compare Eko with the slew of negative publicities your drunk has subjected Nigeria to and you ought to run back into your cupboard, ‘kakalaka’ like you!

          • G4

I do not know what your parameters for success are, for me Fashola flagship project that would have made him a pioneer, put him ahead of his peers and made him a success “in my own opinion” is the single light rail project from cms to ojo, it has become a white elephant and its clear he is not going to complete it before he leaves office. It would be different if you saw them working furiously every day instead its a scanty dead site, so by my own barometer and given the grants and loans from the world bank and others for the project he has failed and there is nothing separating him from the other cleptocrat governors of Nigeria.

    • Ola

      @ Goodluck Nigeria:

Alhaji Raji Fashola – Lagos state’s most reckless governor – will be quitting office next year,
but will be leaving not less than three (3) billion dollars behind as Lagos state debts; after
blowing away seven (7) billion dollars in federally allocated revenues since 2007, plus
another eleven [11] billion dollars Lagos state received in charges, taxes and levies,
totalling 18 billion dollars, but with no justification to show for this amount on the ground,
and without Raji Fashola ever transparently disclosing the state’s post-budget accounts
to the people of Lagos state. For these reasons, you are quite right that “Lagos state is
undoubtedly the world’s No. 1 capital for corruption and looting of public treasury”.

    • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

      Welcome back, redeem, the irredeemable!

You can change you nom de guerre, but not your thought processes!

  • dykoko

I think APC is already feeling threatened by the sole Presidency candidature of PDP. This may imply that APC does not have the strength as the only strong opposition party among our political parties as always acclaimed. The party should look inwards on how to come out strong than the rhetoric on the passage.

Please list some of GEJ worthy achievements that gives him the right to return. What achievements is going to build on? What’s he going to tell the voters on his achievements in the past 6years he’s been ruining Nigeria.

        • the truth

1.for the first time in 37 years we are importing less products.

          2. Agricultural exports at an all time high except prior to the civil war
          3. number one gdp in africa, as recorded by the world bank, imf.(still growing rapidly) did you see the potentials as illustrated by the world bank in zurich on nigerias potential growth for the next four years.
          4. for the first time in 34 years since the shagari rail nigerians can hop on a train from kano to port harcourt( functioning rail system)
5 Electricity improvement throughout the country.
6 According to the statistician of the nation yesterday 1 million jobs created.
          7. gradual disintegration of boko haram
8.hyundai and honda already signed up for made in nigeria
9 the first seating president to build almajiri schools
cars by the second quarter of 2015, not excluding peugeots already working plant in kaduna and toyota.
          just to mention a few

          • Chris1408

I’ll make it simple for you. May your home and life be what GEJ has made Nigeria to be. Please say AMEN

    • Chris1408

All the names you mentioned were leaders, not LOOTERS. Nixon was impeached for an offense that probably won’t even make news in today’s Nigeria.

      • the truth

just because they are white you assume they are leaders and saints.inferiority complex still holding you back.that is the norm worldwide. tell me which country where a sitting president was denied a ticket to return when he was constitutionally still able?

        • Chris1408

You refer to them when it suits you, but argue against them when it’s not in your favor. GEJ will never smell the seat of power ever again. He’s going to be swimming in Otuoke creeks very soon. You can hold his towel or jump in with him.

          • the truth

so who would defeat him. atiku? don’t you get it. open your eyes and see.atiku has contested for president four times in the past 22 years, and he has been rejected. if you were a man of principle, and not greedy after been denied over 4 times why do you still want to rule nigeria. is ruling nigeria by force. so you would trust your future to a man that has moved from pdp to ac to contest presidency, he lost and he came back to pdp, he ran with pdp lost and went back to ac, lost again and returned back to pdp, now he has returned back to apc. dont u get it. this man doesn’t think of u, me or our relatives. he wants power at all costs.

          • Chris1408

Totally agreed, Atiku is corrupt in every sense. The current politicians needs to be banned from politics forever. We need new hands. The best of the best, true patriots.

          • the truth

so now we are talking, lets have a cup of coffee as we discuss. mr chris1408 who are the new hands you propose?

          • Chris1408

No coffee, maybe Pepsi. Let’s flush the worthless ones away, the patriots will come out.

          • Hope Blessed

Pls I beg u to commit suicide if Gej is president 2015. May spirit of nigeria help u hug a live transformer in 2015 or spread ur wet cloth on a nake wire.

  • Wähala

The danger is not so much internal democracy in the PDP who have been mouthing-off about APC being a 2-man party, it is the blanket coverage given to other PDP thugs before the deal to grant Dumbo monopoly was consummated. All Governors include the worst like Orji Kalu getting an auto-ticket to the Senate if he so chooses, ineffective David Mark continuing his bench warming exercise and rubber-stamping anything from the Villa, the EFCC ati ICPC not going after graft-minded PDP politicians, etc… all because of one moron’s ambition. The collateral consequences is lost on sycophants because their minds are primed for crumbs and nothing but their daily bread. A vibrant, democratic process would have produced the “cream of the crop” instead of recycling same crooks with nothing to show for their tenures thus far. Who would have know Fashola, Oshiomhole, Okorocha et al, if they weren’t given first chances? That’s Alhaji Lai’s salient point… made for acute minds!

    • Chris1408

You’re so right “A vibrant, democratic process would have produced the “cream of the crop” instead of recycling same crooks with nothing to show for their tenures thus far.” Both parties are filled with rejects that have nothing to offer Nigerians.

    • Otile

You know very well that Fashola is there because of undue influence of his late father; Oshiomhole is there because of his noise making from Labor; Rochas is there because Guyman Ohakim attempted to steal election results in broad daylight.

  • the_adviser

Why should APC concern itself with other parties. Lai should be promoting the benefits of masses voting for his party instead of bad mouthing and wasting time talking about PDP.

    • Abiodun

I wonder ooo my brother, he fail to know that he is in turn making jonathan more popular and promoting pdp. in as much as am not 80 percentage comfortable with jonathan and his pdp administration,i think apc should be busy strategizing and most importantly provide us with a salable candidate than always telling us about pdp misdeeds that are not of any interest to the well being of the common man on the street.

      • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

Abiodun, have you actually wondered why you are “not 80 percentage comfortable with jonathan and his pdp administration”?

It is because of the APC “strategizing” that you mentioned. If the APC does not keep making these ‘noises’ about GEJ, how would most people realise how bad things are, especially when journalism and news reporting is not controlled by “brown envelopes”?

All APC needs to do now, in order to secure the remaining 20 percent, is to ensure it fields decent aspirants who can meet and fulfil the yearnings and expectations of Nigerians.

        • redeem

        • Abiodun

i fail to agree with you brother, do you know that when you talk so much about someone misdeeds it keeps people against you in the sense that you will be tagged as complaining too much, take for example when the 5 rebel governors was having their issues, initially alot of people where backing them, but at a time, so many people fell out with them and starts finding faults and other motives behind their fight, sometimes you fell out of peoples sympathy when you cry alot. I have not really heard apc telling us how they will fix nigeria and correct issues, all i hear them talk about is wrestling power from pdp and pdp this and pdp that, let them tell us what they can do for us and as well shop for a right candidate.

        • trippi

And you and who are the 80 percent ?

          • Kay Soyemi (Esq.)

Trippi, I believe you would need to direct the question to Abiodun.

If he is so inclined, he would respond to you.

Suffice to say, you have jumped into a river without knowing the depth with your question – the 80 percent is not about people.

Look before you leap next time.

      Dear Editor Premium Times:

For a country in depression on all indices and with violence overcasting it,
Mr. Goodluck Jonathan is not Nigeria’s best option out of 170 million others.
He does not have or show clarity of thought on any matter of public policy.

He is a detritus of Nigeria’s decay and an enabler of corruption by omission.
Anyone deceived by this PDP endorsement of Mr. Goodluck Jonathan is not wise.
A country in distress instead needs a deep thinker with honest to goodness profile.
Goodluck Jonathan is utterly lacking in all these things; and, even the PDP knows that.

The North Deceived Me With Tambuwal/Amaechi Ticket – Gov. Amaechi.

**Aliyu told me that the North has decided to sponsor a Tambuwal /Amaechi ticket in 2015 under PDP.
**We are all in shock, on how Gov. Aliyu would turn around to champion an endorsement of President Jonathan for re-election.
**For Gov Aliyu, I would rather you don’t eat with him at all. He was the pioneer and architect of rebellion in the PDP followed by Lamido.

“I personally do not have any issue with our President. You can ask him. The only issue was a minor disagreement between me and the wife of the President over certain aspects of government policies. And we could have resolved it. After all, I didn’t continue with the demolition of the waterfronts. I stopped on her advice! However, the present feud started when Gov. Aliyu told me that the north has decided to sponsor a Tambuwal/Amaechi ticket in 2015 under the platform of the PDP. Aliyu, then pretentiously initiated a grand plan that made me the chairman of Nigeria governor’s forum, just to lure me, to support his rebellious act in the PDP to stop President Jonathan.

    • redeem

But when it became very clear that the President was in total control of the PDP. Aliyu brokered a meeting between the G7 governors and the leadership of the APC at the Niger state governor’s lodge. Tinubu, Buhari, Ikimi, Tambuwal, Ribadu, Baraje, Adams and 7 other APC governors were in attendance. In that meeting, the G7 governors all agreed to join the APC.

Two days after that meeting, Gov. Adams called me and advised me to remain in PDP. Then I called Aliyu and told him, that Adams has been with the APC long enough to know their intrigues, and has advised me to remain in the PDP. But Aliyu told me, that the day he discussed the Tambuwal/Amaechi ticket with the leadership of the APC that Adams objected to it and expressed his willingness to run with Tambuwal. And Aliyu warned me never to discus my interest with Adams, that Adams doesn’t mean well for me. So the G5 governors continued with the plan and remained in APC. Aliyu is a chameleon and represents everything evil.

He was the pioneer and architect of rebellion in the PDP followed by Lamido. We are all in shock, on how Gov. Aliyu would turn around to champion an endorsement of President Jonathan for re-election. Even up till last month, Aliyu and Lamido were still promising the G5 governors of a showdown in the PDP. The hearts of men are indeed deceitful and desperately wicked. If you have to eat with the devil with a long spoon. For Aliyu, I would rather you don’t eat with him at all. Better starve to death than eat with him. If I knew, I would have listened to Adams and remained in the PDP. – Newsday

IS THIS THE SAME PRESIDENCY AWOLOWO READ FOR SINCE 1952?

Is Nigerian presidency now so cheap and useless that no knowledge or honesty standards apply again?
With what credentials did Rotimi Amaechi conclude, by defecting to APC, that he merits vice president?
On what basis does Aminu Waziri Tambuwal deem himself mentally qualified as the next President of Nigeria?

Is Nigeria now a totally failed state that just about anyone wakes up and casually deems himself the President?
Anyway, once a plea-bargained drugs-running criminal like Bola Ahmed Tinubu aspires to be vice-president,
the bar is lowered to the ground – and no ethical or mental standards apply anymore to the Nigerian presidency –
especially after Goodluck Jonathan was enthroned by Obasanjo’s vile conspiracy as the best Nigerian for the job.

        Thank you, jare!

Methinks General Olusegun Obasanjo’s election as civilian president in 1999 was actually a mistake.
That was when the rains started beating Nigeria; for Obasanjo was never a poster boy of democracy.
He did not understand it one bit. He never studied it formally. He never practised it as an army officer.
To entrust the parturition of democracy to a man so ignorant of its processes is the worst error of all.

      Chief Aladeyemo,

But who told you Rotimi Amaechi is not qualified to be President-for-life in Nigeria?
Look, he is more than qualified and in case you don’t know the basis, Rotimi Amaechi
is the most honest governor Nigeria has ever had. He announced on television that he
is in government not to stop stealing, no, no, but to foster it – no pretence whatsoever!

Here are his exact words on public television which no governor has ever uttered:

“The only way to stop us from stealing is to stone us.
The Nigerian followers are as guilty as the Nigerian leaders.
Nigerian institutions are all compromised and there is no alternative
to them as it is. Nigerians appear not to be against stealing and corruption,

After all, what drives the faithful droves to take the long journey to SCOAN week-in week-out, ignoring the threats of ‘Boko Haram’ and Ebola, if not for their firmly held convictions? Are the media insinuating that these thousands of South African pilgrims are mentally incapacitated or under some cryptic delusion? Also, how many of those making judgmental statements behind the comfort of their computer screens have met the man, heard him speak or partaken in one of his services? I have.

Yes, T.B. Joshua is controversial, unconventional and unpredictable but that is no reason for the media to add needless sensationalism to a story that is already tragic enough. This is not a time to debate Joshua’s authenticity but to mourn with our brothers and sisters whose lives were lost.
