Chief Abiola Ogundokun
Abiola Ogundokun says his tenant assaulted him and defamed his character

The police on Tuesday arraigned a 43-year-old civil servant, Likiyo Babatunde, of Abiola Ogundokun Estate in Karu, before the Karu Senior Magistrates’ Court in  Abuja for alleged criminal assault and defamation of character.

The Prosecutor, Francis Udofia, told the court that one Chief Abiola Ogundokun of Waziri Ibrahim Cresent, Wuse 2, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on Sept. 10.

Mr. Ogundokun is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Mr. Udofia said that Mr. Ogundokun, owner of the estate, was beaten up by the accused person.

“Ogundokun asked the accused person to park his car in front of his flat, instead of occupying the parking space of other tenants.

“The accused became angry, moved towards the complainant and pushed him down.

“The accused did not stop at that. He told on-lookers that the complainant buried charms in the estate so that tenants can leave,’’ he said.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Counsel to the accused, Mr T.J. Aondo, urged the court to discountenance the police First Information Report.

Aondo said the complainant was not in court as claimed by the prosecutor and therefore, urged that the case be struck out.

The Senior Magistrate, Christopher Oba, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 and a surety in like sum.

Oba added that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

The case was adjourned to Sept. 19 for hearing.
