Task force closes 30 private schools in Kano

Kano State government has closed down the popular Nigerian/Turkish International School and others in the state.

The Kano State Task Force on Private Schools has closed 30 private schools, including the famous Nigerian/Turkish International School, for violating the state government’s regulations.

The government established the committee to regulate the activities of private schools in the state.

The chairman of the task force, Baba Umar, announced the closure at a media briefing in Kano on Thursday.

He said the exercise became necessary because the management of the affected schools refused to comply with government regulations governing the operation of private schools.

He said other reasons for the action include indiscriminate increment in school fees without following the approved process, and the lack of well-stocked laboratories and libraries in the case of secondary schools.

Others are non-functional academic records, log book, register, visitors’ book, syllabus and scheme of work.

Mr. Umar warned the proprietors that the schools would not be reopened till they fully complied with the directives.

He said most of the affected schools were operating without provisional approval and certificates.
