Plateau state says the money is a result of hard work by the officers in charge of internal revenue collection
The Plateau Government realised N87.9 million from the issuance of vehicle licences and number plates from January to July, Rauta Jat, Chairman, Plateau Board of Internal Revenue, said.
“The amount is twice the figure of N36.4 million realised within the same period last year,’’ she said in Jos on Thursday.
Ms. Jat attributed the increase to the rigorous revenue drive towards better internal revenue collection by the government. She said that N30.4 million was from the issuance of number plates, N20.53 million was from the issuance of licences, and N20.338 million from the sale of car stickers.
“The feat is also a testimony of hard work put in by our staff,’’ the board chairman said.
Ms. Jat said that more would have been generated but for the un-cooperative attitude of commercial motorcyclists, who refused to register.
“Some of the motorcyclists preferred to go to neighbouring states to obtain number plates and drivers’ licences before their final ban on June 12,’’ she said.
Ms. Jat said that the achievement was “very good’’ in view of the security situation in Plateau. She called on motorists, who have not obtained the new number plates and licences, to endeavour to do so without delay, while promising judicious use of the funds.
“It is good to realise that whatever revenue government realises is for the well-being of all, particularly with our determination to provide social amenities,’’ she said.
