The founder of the Unification Church, and the Universal Peace Federation died at the age of 92.
Sun Myung Moon, a reverend gentleman and world renowned religious leader from Korea is dead. Mr. Moon died in South Korea on Monday.
Mr. Moon, who is the founder of the Unification Church, and the Universal Peace Federation, died at the age of 92 at the Cheongshim International Medical Center, owned by the church, in South Korea. According to the church, he died surrounded by members of his family, friends and followers.
Mr. Moon was hospitalized for complications arising from pneumonia on August 13.
He is survived by his wife Hak Ja Han Moon, 11 children, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His last son, Hyung Jin Moon, who is also a reverend and to whom the late religious leader bequeathed his church leadership, said that even at his old age, the later “… pushed himself way beyond his limits in service to humanity.”
The late preacher was a football lover, and founded a club, Seongnam Ilhwa, which is the top football club in South Korea. He was also the founder of the FIFA recognized Peace Cup tournament. The recent Peace Cup tournament in Seoul was his last public appearance.
A condolence register has been opened at The Peace Embassy, National Secretariat of the Universal Peace Federation, Wuse II, Abuja, for signing by Ambassadors for Peace, and the general public.
