The Sports journalists were asked to vacate their office for sportsmen and women. By Oladimeji Kayode
The Ogun State Government has banished the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) from its operational and administrative office ahead of the forthcoming National Sports Festival.
The operational and administrative office is located within the complex of the 35,000 capacity Moshood Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.
The office was allocated to the sports writers by the immediate past administration over four years ago, and members of the sports writers association usually converge there to file their stories.
But the association got a shocker last week, when the state’s Commissioner for Sports, Gbenga Otenuga, ordered that the office should begin to serve as one of the camps for the state’s contingents ahead of the, November, National Sports Festival.
As at the time of this report, the state government had taken possession of the office and the sports writers had nowhere to file their stories from.
This development is coming barely a month after a new executive of SWAN was inaugurated.
Meanwhile, ahead of the festival, holding in Lagos, the state’s contingents are being camped at various locations across the state including the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode; Alake Sports Stadium, Ijeja; and Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta
