Death toll in Kano flood rises to at least 15.
The Kano State Rehabilitation and Emergency Relief Agency on Tuesday confirmed the death of 15 persons in a flood that swept through nine local governments.
The Director of Operations at the agency, Shehu Maitama, said that the flood destroyed houses and farmlands estimated at N120 million.
According to him, more than 2,000 families were displaced by the flood.
The local government areas affected by the destruction, according to Mr. Maitama, include Bagwai, Bebeji, Gabasawa, Garun Malam, Karaye, Nassarawa, and Sumaila. Farmlands were washed away in Doguwa and Tudun Wada local government areas.
The director said that the agency requested for relief materials from the state government, after thorough assessment of the affected areas.
He also said that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has been informed about the incident.
